Reviews for Hostal America
Review 1:Exchange rate offered was ridiculous, so we paid in US Dollars which seemed to displease reception. To be honest staff weren't very welcoming.
Review 2:Location was good, room was comfortable enough. Simple breakfast of bread and jam.
Review 3:I arrived at 9 pm and no one was available to let me in. I waited for 15-20 minutes before the people at the restaurant next door contacted the receptionist and she finally came down. Even then she still didn't help me check in and continued to take orders for the restaurant before doing my check in. I asked her to call a cab for me the next morning to the airport and she called it for 30 mins later than I asked. Place was nice enough, but customer service was poor
Review 4:Nice room, clean, great shower.
Review 5:A clean and comfortable hotel. Ideal for a one night stop over en route to Uyuni. Staff were very attentive in making sure we were awake for early morning taxi. Also went extra effort to ensure we had enough blankets as was cold at night.
Review 6:Somewhat noisy around 0:00 at night, but it is okay to sleep if one is tired enough and have no energy to take care about that.
Review 7:I only spent one night there. Everything in the room is good, including a very high end TV. They sell pollo con papa, which can be far cheaper than that in Santiago. Not far away from the bus terminal, only few blocks away. It is cheap in Calama
Review 8:When we arrived we had to search for the hostel staff to check in. It took about five minutes to chase someone down.
Review 9:It had a convenient adjoining restaurant and was within striking distance of the bus station so we could get to Uyuni. Was a long walk with backpacks so we took a cab early next morning back to the bus stop for a few dollars. The staff got up early for us to usher us out and call us a taxi.
Review 10:Hotel Construction, only 4 parking spots that are tight because of multiple trucks- prebook it Phone to hotel is incoming only, not able to call out Did not do mine tour as the wind and sandy dust too much to manage without a mask
Review 11:Very friendly staff , no English spokenBed , wifi and our bathroom Great mall nearby. Fairly rich community of contrasts. Really a mining town, with 1 pm tour you must arrange >24 hrs ahead.
Review 12:We enjoyed the large matrimonial room facing the street (even with the road noise), but the back rooms were small and dark. There was a mix-up with the room rates which was quickly fixed. The industrial neighborhood was not a place for an evening walk.
Review 13:This is not a posh hostel, it's a workers hostel and after ten days camping in the Atacama Desert, just what we needed. The staff was fantastic; they are currently constructing new rooms and were gracious enough to stop construction during a much needed siesta. Many thanks to the staff for checking us in early, providing a delicious meal of fried chicken and being down-to-earth. Want to know how hard-working locales live? Try Hostal America.
Review 14:Oh well it's a kinda few rooms above a restaurant. Noisy and not comfortable. not even value for money. Far from the center of Calama.
Review 15:great hot water! wifi ok.
Review 16:After making a booking on "bookings.com" I arrived with my confirmation saying 31 US dollars. I showed my booking receipt in which that told me they had nothing of it - maybe a bookings.com issue? I was then charged an extra 20 US for the night. The room was next to a main road so impossible to sleep and it stunk of ciggarettes. Also received no towel - also the door wouldn't lock properly.
Review 17:Lots of dogs in the area barking loud all night long . Mucho perros ruidosos durante la noche
Review 18:centraal gelegen
Review 19:Excellent hotel for a short stay in Calama. Close to bus station, comfortable bed, great wifi!
Review 20:Staffs dont speak English.
Review 21:The room is clean and new
Review 22:We were told the staff spoke English, but they did not.
