Reviews for Hostal El Loa
Review 1:The chilean legislation aloud to avoid the payment of the 19% tax in the price of a room in a hostel/hotel to any foreign citizen, but the owner said that "he wasn't working with taxes" wich is ilegal, and then they gave us the copy of the bill (the ones that in Chile are used to prove how many taxes you have to pay). So lying with an ilegal stuff, and giving a poor and expensive service.
Review 2:Noisy; generally there is no reason to waste your time on Calama...
Review 3:You have a roof over your head if you have to stay in Calama; it is close to bus station - even it is easier to take transfer directly to San Pedro
Review 4:This part of Chile is ridiculously expensive! 28US dollars (19000Chilean pesos) + VAT for a bare bones single room is outrageous. Unfortunately, it's not that this place is a rip-off, but all of northern Chile is that crazy expensive. Indeed, this was one of the cheapest places in town.
Review 5:the place is clean, and the staff is polite. It's very handy for most bus companies, including buses to Argentina leaving early in the morning.
Review 6:The entire hotel was a construction zone. Had to walk around danger zone tape to get to our hotel. No title on the ground. No warm water. Bright lights in the hallway that the curtains didn't cut out, leaving our room bright all night. The front desk person did not have a record of my reservation even though I booked on this site. Had to provide her with the email printout.
Review 7:It was comparatively cheap. Just needed an overnight for an early morning flight out of calama after a week in the Atacama.
Review 8:Freezing in the rooms. No hot water. We could not shower for 3 days. This place should not advertise that they have hot water, because theydon'T. The water they call "hot", when it is -5 degrees inthe morning, doesn't allow to shower, it is barely lukewarm. Anyonewho would use would catch a pneumonia. Also, noises in the walls thatprevent the sleeping and very basic comfort. No heating possible. (Noteven with a radiator). We had to stay as our luggage were stolen butwould not recommend to anyone to go until they at least installed properhot water access. No english spoken at all.
Review 9:The beds are ok
Review 10:Staff didn't speak English, not a huge problem.
Review 11:Calls itself a hostel, but really its a hotel. Towels, shampoo, tv and maid service, everything you would expect from a hotel. It was clean with helpful friendly staff.
Review 12:I stayed in different places, but this is the worst one. Staff is very impolite and rude. They do not talk English at all Very loud hotel All windows against one colidor,no window outside Taxi that I hotel staff should order for the morning never come. I end up stopping taxi in the street.i should go to airport,so I was quit stressed
Review 13:Small room with no exterior windows so a bit claustrophobic. We were in the first room next to reception (#1) so very noisy with all other guests passing through the corridor. (A different room may be ok).
Review 14:Helpful staff and very secure place. Good central location.
Review 15:Besides the fact there is not much going on in Calama, and the only reason we stayed there was a flight early on the next day, I don't have any complaints regarding the hotel itself.
Review 16:Based on previous reviews, we expected much worse place, and in fact we got a comfortable and clean room, with nice and helpful staff. The location is OK, close to the main street, and there are several restaurants and shops nearby.
Review 17:We weren't aware that the excluded taxes are 19% of the room rate. First time in Chile that we have had to pay the tax on top of the rate.
Review 18:Great location if catching a bus to Uyuni. The staff were patient with us while we tried to communicate with very little Spanish. Hostel (more like a hotel) was very clean, with good security. Good Wi-Fi.
Review 19:No daylight Pillows on the bed were very hard
