Reviews for Berghotel Derby

Review 1:They are located at the edge of town, where hotel is separated from the town by a road (with sound-reflecting-screens), you have to go under the road to reach the hotel. The access is a bit industrial. Takes away from the idillic charm of the place. Some room for improvement, on utillities like soap, as what is provided is rather minimal. Comfortable beds, with crinckled bedsheets. It was the design of the bedsheets, which feels a bit weird at first.

Review 2:Good breakfast.

Review 3:Comfortable hotel very close to the cable cars to the Aletsch Glacier. Friendly staff who allowed us to check in early so we'd have time to visit the glacier that afternoon. Free hot drinks, bar, and delicious breakfast.

Review 4:At first we didn't manage to find the hotel because its name is not Berhotel Derby, but Sporthotel Derby. We were exhausted dragging heavy bags, but eventually we got there))

Review 5:We liked the stay in the hotel very much! The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The staff congratulated my husband on his birthday with bengal lights, which was very touching)

Review 6:After our leaving and payment we discovered that the price of accommodation was 10 FR higher that was in our confirmation of booking. The containe of brakfast was not so extensive but still for our two days staying OK!

Review 7:Super location, calm place even if there is huge river and the road close to the hotel. Super friendly staff, coffe and tea for free during whole day, we received discount for lifts and aquacentrum as well as some discount for free consumation in near restaurant (in this hotel there is not restaurant - only nice and quite big place for breakfast and having a coffe)

Review 8:We loved it!! Small, quaint, and the amazing sound of the river outside hotel made our stay. Michelle ( lady at hotel) was super helpful with a place to eat, lift to see the glacier and our stay. It's so nice to still have good people in the world.

Review 9:These are minor details. We didn't have a car so it was quite a walk from the train stop with a two year old. Would suggest making preparations to overcome before arrival.

Review 10:Staff so helpful, accommodating and always appeared cheerful. Decent breakfast for our needs. Beautiful views. Room was simple but comfortable and perfect for us.

Review 11:Everything! Good and fresh breakfast with hot bread. Free pick-up from the train station.View from the balcony is fabulous. The staff are quite helpful and thoughtful to solve any problem. Free tea and coffee are available all the time. Especially when we were late for the train, Michele and her friend send us to the station to catch up the train. But we got on the wrong train and she called us to get off in the next stop and would bring us back to the hotel wait for the next train. Highly appreciated for all her help! We highly recommend this hotel to anybody and we would like to stay here in the future.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Very well run family owned hotel. Good location for walking and skiing and the most friendly and welcoming staff I have met for a long time. Rooms bright and airy and complimentary tea and coffee during daytime an added bonus. We will definitely return!

Review 14:-

Review 15:very nice hotel that really lives up to their own slogan: "More than you expect" Service minded staff, great room and a breakfast that gives a good start in the morning

Review 16:Nice place, good location. I got a flat tyre near the hotel. The owner try to help contact the rental company with his long distance call. Mr. Vit even change the tyre for me. I have health problem so I couldn't do it myself.

Review 17:Be aware that they are way out on the edge of town and quite far away from the train station .. a good 20 minute walk at least - uphill! Be sure to arrange pickup with the hotel if not able to walk that far .. especially dragging suitcases behind you. Very tiny bathroom but it did have a shower. Few places nearby to eat dinner.

Review 18:Being that they are out on the far edge of town, the hotel sits right next to the river and our room with a balcony had a fantastic view looking up the river .. very pretty! Nice breakfast eating area. Within walking distance to the tram going up to the Aletsch Glacier; on our way back down we discovered the town was having a festival after bringing the cows down from the alpine meadows where they spend the summer .. the cows were decked out in flowers and flags and huge bells .. very cool! The hotel held our bags for us while we went up to the glacier and then drove us to the train station afterwards.

Review 56:Nothing in particular.

Review 57:Great staff. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The location is good, at walking distance from the train station.

Review 58:Some more greens at breakfast would be suggested.

Review 59:Excellent location, near ski lift (6 min. walk.), but not in willage. Very friendly hosts. Excellent view to mountains and river. Good wifi.

Review 60:The hotel is located on the hill, so it's a bit difficult to climb from the train station with the baggage if you don't have a car. But it's rather close to the ski-lifts.

Review 61:Everything! Super-room with a fantastic view through a huge window, with a big balcony. Very clean and pleasant to relax after skiing day. Tasty breakfast with various foods. The owners were super-friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again in this hotel if we go to this area.

Review 62:Absolutely everything. A fairytale location. Baja and her husband who ran the Hotel were absolutely Marvelous, extremely friendly, accommodating and most helpful in every possible respect. Wish we could have stayed with them longer. Perhaps the opportunity will arise in the future, we live in hope. Breakfasts were great, just an unbelievably fantastic experience in all respects.

Review 63:The girl in the reception is really kind, very helpful and patient, and the pool and spa was great! You can enjoy the view of Matterhorn from your room or while you swimming, fabulous picture! Totally worth the price!

Review 64:We guess it is unusual for hotels in Europe to include a small fridge +electric jug to enable making tea etc. But...it would be a smallexpenditure and a great asset for international travelers.

Review 65:Great staff. Very friendly and helpful. Respond to email questions in atimely manner. Very enjoyable breakfasts and good coffee! Will stayagain we hope?

Review 66:The usual two single matresses which drift apart rather than a double.

Review 67:Good sized clean room with the added luxury of our own garden to sit in. Friendly and helpful owners.

Review 68:The location. It's very close to the tour center. And outside the hotel is a river. The room is clean and well decorated. The staff is very helpful for the suggestion of the route plan. Would like to stay for a longer time

Review 69:The hostess was efficient, friendly, extremely helpful and ran a very professional establishment. It was very clean and the breakfast was generous and very pleasant surroundings.

Review 70:A little bit of road noise but not enough to put me off staying there again.

Review 71:Staff really friendly.Fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in the room were a real luxury. We had a bit of lawn and outside seating.Lots of choices for breakfast served in a light airy dining room. easy access from the main road and easy to walk to shops and restaurants.Good view of the river . An easy day trip to Zermatt. Great value for money.

Review 72:It's a bit of a hike from the train station, but not excessiveunless you have a lot of luggage. It helps to realize that there is anunderpass below the highway - you don't have to go all the way tothe roundabout. (Highway noise is not an issue: there isn't muchtraffic, and the river drowns out any car noises.)

Review 73:The manager is as friendly and enthusiastic as she appears in thehotel's web site. She made great suggestions and handled everythingperfectly. The hotel's situation hanging over the edge of the wild,tree-filled Rhone gorge, with the sound of the rushing water justoutside, is beautiful. The bathroom was nicely remodeled.

Review 74:Getting there, there were 2 seperate addresses online and it was a little bit difficult to find. Also the name was written in 3 different ways, which was confusing.

Review 75:Friendly staff, beautiful breakfast, nice room. She talked to us every morning and made us feel very welcome, personalized service. I had an ear infection and even got some medicine from the staff.

Review 76:SIngle room a little tiny though still functional. Kitchen smell would filter through to the room on the first floor. No elevator.

Review 77:Owners and staff were very helpful. They'd pick me up and drop me off at the station.

Review 78:Slightly out of town, but not far. Difficult exit by car.

Review 79:Friendly staff. Large bedroom. Great views. Quiet. Good breakfast. Good hot bath. Internet everywhere.

Review 80:Rooms a bit small.

Review 81:The owner, Phineke, is incredible. She runs it more like a B&B and is so gracious and kind. She helped to make our vacation the amazing journey it was.

Review 82:Room temperature was too warm and hard to regulate.

Review 83:Very helpful staff. Knowledgeable about hiking and recreation. Nice bar in the hotel. Excellent breakfast and beautiful outdoor eating area.

Review 84:The breakfast, although rather complete, could use a little more "home made" jams & offer more cheese. Location

Review 85:Super clean, Good package, Nice terrace & bar/restaurant, Smiling & friendly hotel owner (?) from The location is a bit of a mixed bag : From one half of the hotel nice view & sound from the bordering Rhone river & mountains. On the other side, 3 meters from the road. Looks like the road was build there afterwards but the road is acoustically shielded and isn't really an annoyance, it seems (but I was travelling in low season). Overall a pretty good hotel but was a little more expensive for what it offered than other hotels visited in different areas (Grindelwald & even the touristic Zermatt town). Fiesch is probably better seen in winter than summer.

Review 86:the TV in the room is too small and very badly located, you have to twist your head to watch in it. Hotels in Switzerland are still so expensive.

Review 87:it's a lovely and small hotel in a calm village. The rooms are really clean and big enough, the view over the balcony is magnificent. The smiley lady in the reception makes you feeling like at home.

Review 88:The bathroom was quite small but functioned fine. We would havepreferred a double bed and double quilt instead of two twin beds.

Review 89:The owner was very friendly and extremely helpful all the way throughour visit. She also allowed us a late check-out at no additional cost.We had paid a little extra for our room and had a balcony with awonderful view of a steep valley with a river; no other buildings to beseen from our room! The balcony even had a table so that we could worksitting outside. The room was perfectly correct. The hotel was aconvenient walk from the cable car to Europe's longest glacier andspectacular mountain views.

Review 90:I'm Argentine and I was in the hotel in July 2012. 100% recommend the hotel, the hotel staff had a care excellent, very good value for money, the place is ideally located for access to the glacier. But without doubt, the best was the treatment of staff. A great hotel for a great place.

Review 91:The owner and her staff were really lovely and went out of their way to make our stay a really good one. The facilities were godd and having a kettle and fridge in our room was an unexpected bonus. The bar was inexpensive and lovely and light with good views.

Review 92:The room and the bathroom were a bit tight but compensated with a gorgeous view from a spacious balcony.

Review 93:The hotel is situated close to the flowing Rhone river and if you are lucky to get a room with a balcony, the views outside are simply amazing. The owner of the hotel is a very nice and a charming lady who was helpful and very cheerful. She certainly took good care of the guests and made us feel comfortable. We will certainly be looking forward for another extended visit to this place. The breakfast was hearty and sumptous with good variety, fresh tasty coffee and nice cheese.

Review 94:The best service we have ever received in any hotel we have stayed in! First impressions the hotel was basic but we had everything we needed and more, there is a slight walk up hill to the hotel but even after a hard day, this is a very pleasant walk, especially after a meal in town. The staff were amazing and extremely accomodating from start to finish, we were sad to leave them and will definitely go back and recommend to friends/family.

Review 95:From my point of view, there is no downside for this hotel.

Review 96:The location is great: just 5min walking to the cable car station.Considering that the weather changes hour by hour, it is not a bad ideato stay in a hotel closeby. The breakfast, value of money and internetare good as well and most importantly the hotel staffs are really niceand helpful. I strongly recommend this hotel.

Review 97:Friendly staff, small but comfortable room. They cooked gluten free bread for my breakfast which was quite nice.

Review 98:Nothing. For the price paid it was perfect.

Review 99:Friendly staff. Certainly recommend staying here.

Review 100:Good views ( our room oriented to the mountain and river), excellent treat, and good breakfast. It is 5 minuts walking to the the centre.

Review 101:Great location for accessing Aletsch Glacier. Easy walk to town and tramway. Owner even drove us to train station.

Review 102:Warm welcome. Garden attached to room. Breakfast was fantastic.

Review 103:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.Clean hotel.

Review 104:The staff was great, the lady at reception was wonderfully welcoming and supportive. Had a lovely room overlooking the waterfall, great stay!

Review 105:Super friendly staff, nice sized room with balcony and good breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble, including heating up baby food for us!

Review 106:All was nice.

Review 107:Room and bathroom were really small. Bathroom in particular was very cramped.

Review 108:Lovely friendly staff. Great views of the river and mountains.
