Reviews for HI-Whistler
Review 1:Very uncomfortable vibes. What can be said when you feel you are a food item. There was a collective -soul Dark Would have felt safer with a suit on made of steaks in a lions den.
Review 2:well equipped kitchen.
Review 3:I woke up at 2:20am with people speaking and laughing in the hallway. There is no sound insulation in the room, you can hear every noise. Usually hostels have a pretty restrict silence policy, but not at IH, it was disappointing. The heater takes 2-3 hours to change the temperature, my room was very warm and it was uncomfortable to sleep. The mattress and pillows aren't good at all, but you get what you've paid for. I would definitely stay again, but my tip is, don't expect a hotel experience in a hostel.
Review 4:Close to the public transportation, storage for the ski gear, a coffee shop in the building, decent size bedroom (private bedroom).
Review 5:The price advertised on booking.com is not the one we payed at the counter. Apparently, they advertise "member price". The additional charges are not under "not included" part, but in a separate small text. The staff was rude when we pointed that out and showed full incompetency by blaming everyone but themselves for the discrepancy. What if the difference is not 10 dollars, but 100, and also written in small text?
Review 6:Hello, I am a HI member and I booked a bed for 1 night at HI Whistler. Unfortunately my friends booked another one for me for the same day and we realized it too late (after 5pm the day before). When I called HI Whistler, the person at the desk kept repeating this is our policy and there is nothing I can do. It is on me. Fair enough, it is my fault and I am going to pay for 2 beds. This kind of behaviour really upsets me. We are client and I cannot admit that there is no tolerance for such situation. It is quiet different from not showing up. Once again, this is my fault and they don't care at all. With plaisure, Arnaud
Review 7:Distance was a little out of the way, okay if you have a car and bus wasn't bad. Internet dropped in and out
Review 8:Rooms were clean, modern, people were friendly. For the price it was great value
Review 9:The room was dirty , it needed to be vacuumed, hair was stuck in the sheets wrappers around the headboard, the shower curtain was dirty an the shower mat on the floor had a dirty towel under it. Water stains in the shower. Sink an shower handles were water stained maybe just not cleaned. I had to go an ask for towels as there was none in the room. The bedspread had stains on it
Review 10:The front desk were nice an friendly an answered my questions. It was easy to check in. An out. The location was nice an quiet until construction started in the morning The room was a good size an built nice enough. Bed was comfortable.
Review 11:we didn't like the food at the café.. we tried the breakfast menu & the smoothies and we didn't like what we ordered.
Review 12:My friend & I got the room with a private bathroom. The room was nice & simple and clean. We will most definitely be back!
Review 13:It was a nice private room. I've never been to a hostel before, so they've definitely set an unrealistically high standard for my future stays at other hostels.
Review 14:No power in my double private room. Was offered a dorm room for the same price which I wasn't interested. Stayed overnight without power, NO TV, NO CHARGING FOR MY PHONE. had a very dirty towel in my room. No shampoo or kettle or coffee maker. Very basic. Fridges in kitchen were packed. Parking can be difficult in high season. About 20 mins drive away from Whistler downtown.
Review 15:The kitchen is spacious with a bbq area. Rooms are clean.
Review 16:Did not like the surprise +10% price on top of what was promised online. Basically if you are a member its -10% off the price, if you're not its a surprise +10%. Sleazy. Why not be honest about the price in the first place and subtract 20% for members?
Review 17:I stayed in a 4-bed Male Room. It was a bit too dirty. That's the problem if people stay in these 'mixed' rooms for longer than a few days, that's their home for this time. And when you stay in these rooms as a tourist that doesn't fit in my opinion
Review 18:Location is far from the town of whistler and area of hostel is characterless.staff member did let himself into our room to check if it was in use?
Review 19:Nice view from room, staff helpful, shared kitchen useful.
Review 20:A real shame - we've stayed in many Hostels and this was the worst yet. The cleanliness was dredful - despite complaining we were not given a proper apology and the excuse was there were not enough staff - sorry but that's no excuse for filthy bedroom and bathroom - hairs everywhere and it clearly hadnt had a deep clean for months - and the kitchen was a mess - such a shame as it sells itself on the cleanliness award it got in 2013 - it certainly wouldn't win it now!
Review 21:The hotel and the rooms in general were so hot. We told reception about this issue because it seemed like the heat was actually on in the middle of August, but nothing was done about it. It made it quite uncomfortable to stay there. Also the kitchen was extremely poorly stocked and we ended up having to get our own cutlery and bowls because there were never enough for everyone.
Review 22:I did like our private room, which was cheaper than if we had a hotel in Whistler. The living room area with the pool tables and etc. were very nice and clean. The staff were also very friendly.
Review 23:Was quite a bit out of the village but it wasn't a problem as we had a car. The rooms were a bit too hot
Review 24:Lovely modern place. Clean and spacious. Staff were friendly
Review 25:Every time I turned my body when sleeping, the bed made noise...I bothered my friends' sleeping, too...
Review 26:The staff are so friendly and are willing to help!
Review 27:Have to take a bus to get there from Whistler village, beds made noise when you turn around, wifi was poor in dorm but good in shared rooms
Review 28:Nice patio, modern building and nice new washrooms, cheap compared to other accommodation in Whistler
Review 29:Network PC did not work and wifi slow even in main rooms with good reception. No connection in our room so had to wander around hostel to get good connection.
Review 30:Very good and cheap laundry facilities
Review 31:Bed was low and too firm.
Review 32:Clean, reasonably close to Whistler Village..9km. Public transit at door. Modern, newer building. Free parking. Knowledgeable staff. Nice views from 3rd floor. Flat screen TV.
Review 33:It may be that the carpet in the room was not vacuumed since the business opened. It was a veritable gravel of crumbs. Sheets and pillow cases were rumpled, but turned out to seem reasonably clean. Breakfast bar in the lobby was slow, not very good at all, and poor value. Give it a pass. Good thing we had a vehicle, town was a ways off.
Review 34:Nice modern building with good attached bathroom.
Review 35:The beds ,made of wood, creaked badly. Need to be screwed tighter at the joints With all the extra rooms (TV room/pool room/ computer room) the cost was a little higher than other hostels
Review 36:Location great, building modern and very clean, staff friendly and helpful, amenities excellent, kitchen large and clean. . Nice to have a little cafe and bus at the door. Children's playground
Review 37:Not a problem overall but more bandwidth on the wifi would be appreciated
Review 38:Enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hostel. Excellent staff response to the minor problem we had with the door locking. Good base for walking in Whistler area.
Review 39:Some staffmembers at the reception were a bit unpleasent and not really pro-active in helping me. Eventually I got everything I needed but it wasn't the best service I've seen in hostels. Location could be better. You have to take the bus into the village for 30 min. every time you go out for an activity or sightseeing. But it's well worth it because the hotels in the village are a lot more expensive.
Review 40:Clean hostel, nice little cafe to get breakfast/lunch (good food but Not too cheap though). Private rooms are great, don't know about the dorms. Good atmosphere, easy to meet new people. Beautiful view on the mountains.
Review 41:Rooms were too hot. Beds were making sounds whenever someone change their side. We could not sleep almost all night.
Review 42:I like kitchen helper. We were late for dinner time and the boy let us in and allowed us to prepare our dinner. I appreciate that.
Review 43:The location. I just assumed as it was called the HI Whistler it would have been located closer to the village, not 8.7km out of the village. Awkward when you're not driving! I guess I should have researched that better. WiFi was poor. Kept disconnecting and it was crazy slow at loading. One of the staff members (male)cleaning the room was a bit inappropriate, came into our room (female) before check out time, propped the door open and stood there for a minute smiling at us. We were still getting dressed and packing our bags with still about half an hour til check out time. Rooms were so so so stuffy and hot. My booking was meant to be 73.00 CAD including taxes for 2 people. Ended up paying a little over 80 CAD at the hostel. Still not sure why....
Review 44:Staff were fine. Hostel was clean. Common area and tv room were nice.
Review 45:I could not sleep the room was too hot. The window was so tiny that the fan was not enough. The AC DID NOT WORK AT ALL.
Review 46:Perfect location for jofree lakes hike and Whistler area. Bus right there less than a block away. Excellent cafeteria for breakfast. Nice facilities!. Staff was good.
Review 47:a wee bit of a drive from the main whistler village. Limited options for getting a meal close by.
Review 48:Great value, had a private room with ensuite so it was perfect. Great facilities for cooking and laundry. Secure bike storage.
Review 49:It was kind of noisy off and on thru the night. But not surprising due to the many youth staying there. Perhaps a reminder to be concious of other guests would help.
Review 50:We enjoyed the cleanliness of the rooms and relaxed nature of the place and the value for cost was excellent.
Review 51:The noise!!!!! Young ppl drinking and shouting throughout the night!! I could not sleep till after 4am. This place has no noise control. Also terrible out of shape pillow.
Review 52:Spacious room
Review 53:It was really summer hot day and they did not have a/c and they justbought the fans and tried to assemble and the night was really sleeplessbecause of heat :( And compared to our other accomodation, it was thesmallest room which we had during our 2weeks trip... No fridge, nocoffemaker, no kettle...
Review 54:The hotel´s location is calm and cozy. Far away from crowded city centre:) And finally one European toilet :) Well equipped shared kitchen :)
Review 55:The internet on our floor was slow, but the lobby internet was great. Probably just too many people using it at once on our floor.
Review 56:The cleanliness, nice wide bunks, great customer service. Kitchen was clean and well equipped, organized. Fellow guests were friendly and talkative. Overall GREAT experience
Review 57:Unfortunately the breakfast place wasn't open early enough that we could eat before we left. Also the wifi was so slow that I was better off to use data
Review 58:It was clean and convinent
Review 59:Whole building is really hot and stuffy in the summer making it hard to sleep
Review 60:Communal areas are comfortable and spacious with lots of outdoor seating.
Review 61:The only thing is that the hostel is a sauna during hot summer days. Literally.
Review 62:Amazing hostel, really clean, nice staff, easy to meet people, love it! Really one of the best so far in Canada.
Review 63:The rooms did not have air conditioning, as such, the room got really warm and stuffy with four of us in the room and only a small window for fresh air. This may not be an issue in winter but in summer it is.
Review 64:the staff were great and really helpful. They were able to help with any question or request I had
Review 65:The heat wave caused the hostel to be incredibly hot, not air con or fans. It was that bad no one could sleep. People were sleeping any where but the bedroom which included the laundry floor and even their car!!! Suggestions were to sleep with a wet towel over your body by the staff!!! Something needs to be done about this....????
Review 66:Very modern, great decor and stunning view!!!!!
Review 67:There was no airco nor fans. We couldn't sleep because of the heath and the noice other guests made at night. Way too expensive for a room that hot.
Review 68:We booked a private room. We tot a big room with a nice shower.
Review 69:Google maps seems to think that there is a ostelling International Whistler facility @ 1500 Alta Lk Rd which I spent a fruitless 1/2 hour trying to find. Can you correct this?
Review 70:This area is extremely isolated. You can't really walk to anything and taxis are expensive, but it has a bus stop right outside which helps. There is only 1 shower and 1 toilet between 8 beds. When the dorms are full up this is a bit of a nightmare.
Review 71:Good value for money. Kitchen facilities were great along with nice TV room, pool table. Could do with having a bar as it's so far out from the main village. Bus stop is very conveniently located.
Review 72:Just thst I turned the thermostat down below 10 C. and opened a window a little bit and still couldn't get the heat down to a comfortable level. I didn't know what that heating mechsnism was under the winfow or how to conrol it frim pumping out heat. I like a cool room to sleep in. ☺️ The blsnketd were do heavy and warm that the room needed to br COOL.
Review 73:Having the roim to myself !
Review 74:The wifi was horrific, but that's not the point of being at Whistler.
Review 75:Very clean and well kept hostel with amiable staff. Anthony occasionally organizes events at night to bring groups together, we played poker on Saturday night. A lot of groups were watching movies or shooting pool in the common area.
Review 76:Nothing is in walking distance- you have to catch a bus which adds up in cost. For a hostel, it was expensive. Our room (which was private) backed onto the internal staircase so it was constant thumping all night. The fridge for guests to put their food in is overflowing.
Review 77:The kitchen facilities were always clean. Heating was great.
Review 78:The "fresh" linens were very dirty, I found hair stuck to them and lipstick mark on the pillow case. Member and non member price should be listed on the booking screen. If I know I am paying $154.00 per night I will not stay there.
Review 79:Security camera at the storage room for our equipment.
Review 80:Intermittent wifi...couldn't stay connected for any length of time. First world problems I know, but when trying to work, it was a bit frustrating.
Review 81:Too far out of town; no supermarket (had to get off the lift to go shopping in Whistler and clamber on the bus with shopping and ski gear); bus costs $2.50 each way; comfortable condos right in Whistler village cost only a little more than a double room with private facilities in the hostel (when staying for a month)
Review 82:The staff was very friendly, the kitchen was good, it was nice and warm, luggage could be left safely, everything was clean, it was only a short walk to the bus.
Review 83:kitchen a bit small, often running out of utensils. Rooms got very hot at night. The wifi was terrible. Was a fair way from village but the buses were regular.
Review 84:The common room was good, easy to mix with others. There was a movie room. Eating area was large. Rooms are the expected size for a hostel. With every one having their own light and power point and shelf at their bed.
Review 85:Wifi is not reliable and often cut out, but you should be on the mountain anyway so no biggie!
Review 86:Bus stop is so easy to recognise, always lit up, open 24/7, super friendly staff and hostel occupants, epic kitchen
Review 87:The wifi doesn't work very well while inside the room. Otherwise works great in lodge and kitchen area.
Review 88:I always stay at this hostel when I go whistler. It's very clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend single travelers to stay here. Everyone at the hostel are very nice.
Review 89:Must be careful because I reserved and I thought that I was going to pay the price booking.com was giving me and it turns to be more expensive because they said that I wasn't a member of the hostal...
Review 90:The kitchen was the worst I've ever been in. No utensils. No spoons. No bowls. Absolutely filthy. Awful experience!
Review 91:The ensuite bathroom for a dorm room
Review 92:liked everythng
Review 93:i wasnt expecting a lot for hostel but it was surprising good. very accessible if you have a car, its 10 km from village center but very well connected. very resonable, rest of whistler is crazy expensive. we live in vancouver so usually its a day trip for us but this time we planned to stay for a night, hi was good. friendly staff, good cafe, young vibe, perfect for solo, or young couples.
Review 94:Would be nice if it was closer to the village but bus connections work quite well
Review 95:I loved the simple and clean layout of the hostel. Great to have the bus stop so close and it runs very frequently.
Review 96:WIFI reception was very poor in the rooms and the duvets were absolutely horrible.
Review 97:Volleyball field, football field and basketballl court surrounding you. Free parking.
Review 98:I booked two rooms for my friend and I who were visiting for a wedding. Somehow my friend's reservation was lost, and the manager was incredibly accommodating and quickly fixed the issue. Would definitely stay here again! Clean place.
Review 99:The receptionist was unaccomodating and didn't explain that we could have received the online price and towels if we told her we were HI members. For the outrageous price of over $100 and cab fares, we could have stayed conveniently in the Village. First impressions mean alot! We won't stay a again.
Review 100:I have stayed with HI in Rome and Naples and we were treated like royalty. Room was clean and quiet.
Review 101:We had the room with queen sized bed and private bathroom for $80 a night before tax which is a steal for anywhere in the Whistler area. Clean room with a good amount of space. Kitchen area was class. Pretty close driving distance to the village, with bus service available. Nice areas around the hostel to walk and chill or play basketball or soccer. A Cafe is located on the bottom floor which was convenient for us on checkout morning as we did not want to cook. Great atmosphere, and overall terrific stay.
Review 102:Nothing.
Review 103:We loved that we stayed in the Olympic athletes village; it's a well designed complex. Our room & ensuite were spacious the queen bed comfortable. The kitchen is easy to prepare meals with many other guests and the dining room large with window views. Decor colours modern and attractive.
Review 104:The windows would not open to let in air - it was summer and hot but a breeze would have been nice!
Review 105:This place was clean, quiet, convenient and well-organized.
Review 106:I liked everything
Review 107:It's the best hostel in Canada period, a little expensive but worth it, the staff is awesome it's clean and the view from every window is spectacular. Best hostel in Canada ppl
Review 108:No cross ventilation in rooms, room was uncomfortably warm. The two men I was bunked with came in at dawn drunk and full of bodily functions...some not so appropriate. I had to leave and when I informed the desk guy, he was indifferent. Left a bad taste in my mouth to stay at co-ed hostels again in future...
Review 109:Facilities were clean and newish. Trails and transportation right out the door.
Review 110:The price quoted on booking.com was grossly misstated. Quoted was $79. But even after adding tax and then $10 before tax because we weren't members of the HI Club we paid over $106. Not happy.
Review 111:The room was very nice but as it turned out to be over $106 you'd expect it to be.
Review 112:Our double room was great. However, our daughter's dorm room was too small for four, her roommates were totally selfish, coming in and out at dreadful hours, putting lights on and off.
Review 113:the kitchen and dining facilities.
Review 114:The bed felt like it was going to break. The rooms need blackout curtains (our room got all the morning sun) and fans, it was quite warm. As it is a hostel I figured it would be noisy but our room was right over the parking lot and near the common room balcony and it was really loud.
Review 115:The facility was really nice and the staff were great. The hostel was also in a good location.
Review 116:No AC.
Review 117:Location, facility, staff were great. I would highly recommend it, but I won't go in summer because it has no AC and the room was very hot. The only other thing was there's no ice machine, so next time I'll know to bring my own. Staff were very friendly, helpful, and efficient, and the room was very quiet, with a great view of the mountain. Overall, HI Whistler was a wonderful place.
Review 118:Really hot in all the rooms, too small windows, sweating whole night, dirty bad with hairs of previous users, you have to remove lining by yourself, asked staff really friendly for silent room because I was ill - got a room on the backside where you could hear party from 2nd floor all night, wifi slow like never had before... Worst stay ever for a 100 bucks... That was waste of money!!!
Review 119:Nothing good
Review 120:There were constant problems with the Wifi in rooms. I had to go down on the main floor to use it. The loud music at reception area was annoying when I wanted to watch television which is also at reception area. One should be kept away from the other.
Review 121:The place is neat and modern, very clean and appropriate for individuals. It is spacious and has beautiful decor. I enjoyed my stay there and will definitely be coming back here when in Whistler. The bus stops 50 feet from the entrance and passes quite frequently. I mostly appreciated the friendly and helpful staff.
Review 122:that the kitchen was a little bit of a mess. if there was someone that could tell us that we need to clean up or at least clean up more often perhaps?
Review 123:i like the fact that they had towels and linens for each bunk bed! it was cheap each room was CLEAN when we came in! it had a staff that were well versed in the bus lines, specially when we are from out of town and not know HOW a bus works in Canada, i liked that it was cheap because i will tell more people to go out with me and snowboard when winter! basically everything is there! =D it's almost like a hotel but small and cheaper! i would come back again definitely!
Review 124:Location is a bit far from Whistler village by bus(20 mins). Would be nice if there was a free shuttle, or free bus rides included.
Review 125:Very clean and amenities were great. Staff were helpful and provided recommendations. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 126:Young people shouting late at night in the corridor, heating system not very effective, towels were very small
Review 127:Clean room, friendly and helpful staff
Review 128:It was so hot up in the room we felt sick and couldn't sleep.
Review 129:Very clean which is awesome.
Review 130:Terrible WIFI
Review 131:Cleanliness. Great staff.
Review 132:Location is far from tawon
Review 133:Facilities are great
Review 134:There is no bar or tavern for social interaction.
Review 135:Very well furnished and modern with excellent facilities.
Review 136:It was noisy
Review 137:Great private room, good value for money
Review 138:cleanliness and tidiness in common area not always adequate
Review 139:Facilities and location
