Reviews for Rodd Charlottetown
Review 1:The staff are wonderful, in great contrast to a hotel I stayed in the two nights before in Charlottetown. Prices entirely reasonable and good value for money.
Review 2:Great downtown location within walking distance to coffee shops & the mall. The feel of the hotel was charming, it is older and has a great ambiance. The restaurant was also very good, and we both enjoyed our meals. I really liked the fact that it is pet friendly! The hotel staff were also welcoming and helpful.
Review 3:The walls are like paper, you hear everything from the rooms on either side and we were across from the elevator which made it even worse. As a light sleeper it was quite unpleasant.
Review 4:Location, room size, comfortable bed/pillows
Review 5:Accomodations were a little small. Walls were a little thin and not verys soundproof (typical of an older building).
Review 6:Great location - within walking distance to many downtown pubs and restaurants.
Review 7:The situation of our first room was across from the elevator and unclean. The second room was clean, but the room very cramped. The third room (suite) was the charm. Thank you Hannah! The hotel could use some upgrading, for sure. Staff in dining room good, but not as good as other staff mentioned. Seemed like 'jobs' to them. And like they would like to be somewhere else.
Review 8:The very best thing about the Rodd is your staff at the front desk and your housekeeping staff. (don't know their names) Hannah was sublime! She immediately registered our dissatisfaction in our room and upgraded us. She was wonderful! Oliver helped, too, and gave us complimentary breakfasts, when first room unclean.
Review 9:My room had a connecting door to each of the adjoining rooms so I was forced to listen to conservations from both sides. Do not book this hotel unless you get a promise of a room without a connecting door.
Review 10:The hotel has a grand exterior and is within walking distance of everything down town. Parking is free.
Review 11:It took 3 attempts before we got the type of room we booked. (On the second attempt the room given to us was already occupied). Parking was not available on site until after 5 p.m.on our first day.resulting in having to keep feeding the parking meter.
Review 12:Location.
Review 13:Cleanliness was very poor........old, outdated bathroom......filthy tiles in the tub and floor was disgusting. There was a huge stain on the cushions of the sofa and the room had a bad smell.
Review 14:Location was great. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast staff and front desk staff were wonderful.
Review 15:Found the walls thin so overheard conversations from other guests through the walls. Bathroom was small with no space for toiletries, to be expected for age of hotel. Would suggest that that be addressed if possible.
Review 16:The staff were great and everyone was very friendly. Loved the period decor and historic architecture.
Review 17:Mattress was too soft for anyone with a back issue. Thin walls allowed your neighbors conversation in and the wi-fi connection was frustrating.
Review 18:the location was excellent and staff was informative and professional. The art deco feel also gave a sense of building character.
Review 19:no hot water for shower Monday 8am... braised rib dinner poor- needed to cook/stew the beef more hours..and was cold..but no sense in heating up as it needed more cook time....
Review 20:location great...ambience great...
Review 21:Sound insulation in the bedroom could be better. The shower temperature was very variable.
Review 22:The friendly and helpful staff. The location was great and within walking distance of shops, restaurants and parks.
Review 23:Opening the window in warm weather was a real challenge: old and stuck. The flush worked but not as quickly as a modern one. I would have liked a fan in the bathroom.
Review 24:The bed was super comfortable. A front desk clerk helped me to get my laptop going....in person! Breakfast was excellent.
Review 25:Parking is poor, The elevators were out of order three times. Fire alarms went off for no reason during the night. Based on the price for three nights we could have got a better hotel cheaper.
Review 26:There was not much to like about the hotel. Breakfast was ok.
Review 27:Everything. But what I liked the most was the spinach bacon walnut salad. The best ever. And our waitress in the morning was outstanding she always offered suggestions as to what we should see.
Review 28:Friendly helpful staff and an impeccably clean hotel. The location is perfect for accessing anything downtown. The restaurant has a great menu well cooked meals.
Review 29:Parking was difficult but we figured the meters out.
Review 30:The proximity to restaurants, parks and museums was excellent. Indoor heated pool was a nice way to end the day. Breakfast in the restaurant was delicious. Staff was welcoming and helpful.
Review 31:The parking situation at this hotel needs to be improved. Both the nights we stayed there we has to park on a driveway at the back of the building which actually belonged to another hotel. When we mentioned this at the front desk we were told that we might be towed biut there was nothing they could do about the situation. Not helpful at all. This hotel is overpriced for the level of amenities and service it provides.
Review 32:The hotel was comfortable and quiet. The rooms could use some updating in decor.Bathroom needs better lighting and more storage.located in a quiet neighbourhood only about a 10 minute walk from the downtown.
Review 33:Older style Hotel with lots of character and charm and walking distance to shops, waterfront, restaurants and Pubs....Great staff Superb view from the rooftop patio........
Review 34:There was mold on the tiles surrounding the bathtub. The main light had a burnt out bulb that was never replaced despite our bringing it to the attention of the front desk. One of the "clean" hand towels had some kind of bubblegum on it, front desk offered to send up a clean set but no apology!
Review 35:The dining room staff were excellent. front desk pleasant but did not deal with our complaints.
Review 36:There are not enough free parking spots for customers and the desk was not helpful. The bathrooms were old and there was no vent fans. The rooms badly need updated.
Review 37:The location was great.
Review 38:Wi-fi was a little weak at times. Rooms weren't very sound proof. Could hear phone conversations through the walls. The bathroom was rundown but I expected that, considering the age of the hotel . If it was modernized too much it would lose the period features I think.
Review 39:Old world charm of the property. It's a very old and grande hotel. Lots of wood features and history. Nice roof deck to appreciate the view. Close to restaurants, waterfront, shopping. We ate in the dining room for lunch twice. Food was wonderful and reasonably priced. We also attended the dinner theatre at the hotel. We had a great time! Food again, was delicious. the show was fun. We loved this hotel!
Review 40:Very noisy motel, was very disappointed that they added another 100.00 to my bill and kept as a damage deposit without bringing it to my attention. Booked with booking.com and had no reservation when I arrived.
Review 41:Amazing beds.
Review 42:No parking and hotel was to plug our meter on the street and they did not. Air conditioning did not work and we had a terrible sleep because of it. We were offered a "so sorry".
Review 43:Close to the harbour
Review 44:limited parking places(always full, you have to park on the street), limited wifi(almost no wifi), you can clearly hear what your neighbour said. small washroom, etc. All sucks. Just wonder how can a hotel like this be a 4 star one.
Review 45:nothing really like.
Review 46:They had a wedding going on the music was very loud in our room and party goer's on our floor were smoking a lot of everything
Review 47:Staff very friendly and great central location
Review 48:There was a hassle regarding the type room booked. Staff was not especially accommodating and, while the staff got better, they weren't the most attentive I've seen.
Review 49:It's a neat old CN railroad hotel in the heart of Charlottetown's quaint downtown. The restaurant is very good for a hotel restaurant.
Review 50:Was not happy with the view we had for 4 days,we tried to change rooms and was told are view was of a park. All we seen was tha top of a roof and an air conditioner I guess that is what she thougt we deserved,we booked moths in advance. We had stayed there once before and had a wonderful time and view that is why we stayed there again.
Review 51:Location
Review 52:The parking is poor, not really much that can be done about that as it is downtown. Maybe parking passes so people can park on the street when there is no parking out back (meter parking is very expensive). Some extra light around the back of the building at night would be great too.
Review 53:The hotel is lovely, I have never slept so well in a hotel before the beds were amazing!!! The pool is great and the kids really enjoyed it.
Review 54:I was disappointed with food. Other than the mussels there was nothing that really was outstanding. Cows ice cream was very good tho.
Review 55:The wonderful temps. I live in San Antonio, Tx. USA
Review 56:Bed was a little too soft for my liking. Inadequate parking space. We were lucky to get a spot but other guests had to park on the street which was fine unless you were staying after 8 am (when you have to feed the parking meter)
Review 57:Location was great. Easy walking to waterfront and for exploring downtown area
Review 58:The hot tub was broken for a very long time and would remain that way for a long time more. The pool tiny. The rooms were extremely small, no elevator to the suites.
Review 59:The dinner theatre The wheel chair access room had a hand held shower head.
Review 60:The room was very old and tiny, the fridge was very noisy, the bed uncomfortable and the bathroom was very unpractical, small and dirty.
Review 61:The location and the outside of the building.
Review 62:The Wifi connections was always interrupted. Adding to that, there is not à lot of available parking.
Review 63:The food at the restaurant was really good for a reasonable price. The staff is really helpfull André professionnal.
Review 64:Our room was next to the stairwell so we had a lot of noise.
Review 65:Location was very convenient. It was within walking distance of numerous restaurants and cultural/historical sites.
Review 66:The only thing I would suggest is that you give better coffee and some real milk in the hotel room.
Review 67:Everything was excellent and all staff were extremely nice.
Review 68:Our room didn't get cleaned one day as someone put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door. We didn't.
Review 69:The young man at the front desk was incredibly happy and sweet. Always helped us and smiled
Review 70:The facility is in need of a complete modernization program. To charge what you do for a 1950's accommodation is disappointing. We were in room 104 which sized for a single K or Q bed and not two Doubles. The bath is small, cramped and so out of date that it is almost unbelievable. Ambience only carrys you so far. However, your staff at the desk, and particularly, the restaurant ladies were superb as was the food. Kudo's to them. We did, however, very muck enjoy our visit.
Review 71:The location, staff and restaurant were all top notch.
Review 72:Room was very small for two double beds. Could hardly walk around room. The black and white tiles in bathroom actually made me dizzy.
Review 73:The beds were super comfortable. The show French Kiss was great, the food was excellent. Staff were very friendly.
Review 74:Nothing comes to mind.
Review 75:Nice old hotel with friendly, efficient staff and fine breakfast. Very clean, good shower. Good value. They even held a package for me that I forgot to take with me when I stayed last year!
Review 76:This is an old hotel, and it shows. I felt that some things could have been upgraded, without taking away from the character of the hotel, to make it more appealing. I found it a little expensive for what I was getting.
Review 77:The location to downtown Charlottetown was great. No need to rent a car if staying in the downtown area. Although the hotel was old, the staff kept it clean!
Review 78:Historic hotel in quiet location yet close to waterfront & centre. Friendly professional staff and quality accommodation + free parking. The theatre dinner held at the Rodd was excellent entertainment and good value.
Review 79:The architecture and history of the building is not compromised by modern conveniences. Perfect location for parking your vehicle and walking everywhere. Enjoyed our stay!
Review 80:Not a bad experience but we were a couple for once without our children so a queen bed rather than two double beds would have been appreciated. While we realise it would be difficult to square that with the hotel's traditional look, it is time to update the bathrooms with more modern and better looking plumbing and amenities. At the price, breakfast should be included (especially if the hotel wants to remain competitive).
Review 81:We were in Charlottetown to attend a conference and did not want to stay at the boring hotel everyone was staying at. We chose the Rodd for its charm, character and history and we were not disappointed. Location was excellent (then again location is always good in Charlottetown). We did not have a car so cannot comment on parking facilities and we did not try the pool and we cannot comment on that either. Staff was very friendly and helpful. .
Review 82:The mattress was old and not really comfortable, and our room with two beds was cramped and not "spacious" as outlined in the ads I read prior to booking. Bathroom was quite old fashioned - taps hard to turn. A/C made lots of noise when it kicked in, waking us up.
Review 83:I liked the central location in that the downtown was only steps away. It is also very clean and well maintained.
Review 84:The bed and mattress in our room was awful. The head of the bead was tilted downward so you were sleeping with your feet elevated and the mattress needed replacing. Staff tried to fix the bed somewhat for our second night. The room appeared 'tired' and in need of some t.l.c.
Review 85:This was a great location to walk around downtown Charlottetown. The history of this old CN hotel was interesting too.
Review 86:Very tired decor. Carpet and furniture in common areas so dirty and worn out i wouldn't touch them. Bathroom for ballrooms and guests was very old and looked like a patchwork of repairs.
Review 87:Brautiful historic building in the heart of downtown. Easy walking distance to everything.
Review 88:Wifi didn't work - perhaps we were too far from the router in our corner room. I had food poisoning from dinner on the first night. Parking was not reserved for hotel guests and was a problem as locals used the parking on hotel property - this is a known problem at the hotel.
Review 89:Staff were excellent
Review 90:Needs updating!!! Finishes in rooms in need of updating. Although I need see cleaners cleaning every morning. The building itself is a historic building however, due the older finishes, rust stains bathroom ... It feels old which translate to me as dusty and dirty. Needs new clean finishes.
Review 91:Located is good
Review 92:No parking ... had to park at a meter for several hours before one came available. Noise from neighbours at 2am...
Review 93:Clean and inviting. Very central location. Staff very friendly.
Review 94:Within walking distance of many sites, shops, and eateries so lots to see and do close by. The kids loved the pool and rooftop patio-the view was awesome.
Review 95:The hotel is looking a bit shabby as far as carpets etc.
Review 96:The location was the best feature, walking distance to the waterfront and the cafes, restaurants and shops. The actual hotel is looking a bit dated and could do with a spruce up. More importantly the the beds were comfortable. It was nice to have a fridge in the room and wine glasses supplied.
Review 97:We asked for a queen bed, and got two doubles instead. We slept the first night very uncomfortably in one bed, and split up the second night. The mattresses had no support. The beds were a disaster.
Review 98:The location was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 99:Location is an easy walk to downtown. Staff were extremely friendly and delivered exceptional service. Character of the hotel was great - old granduer like other Railway built hotels - beautiful lobby, dining areas and ballrooms.
Review 100:Very noisy - could hear snorring and conversations in the other rooms. The fidge in the room was noisy when it turned on an woke me up every time. Plumbing needs to be updated - hear flushing. this room was a smoking room previously - lingering smell.
Review 101:Our room was next to the elevators and they kept ua awake both nights. On Saturday the Hotel hosted a wedding and the party went on until the early hours of the morning on Sunday. My suggestion would be that the Hotel makes sure that anyone who is staying there that is connected to the event, keep them in one place. We did not enjoy listening to the loud laughter and language all ningt.
Review 102:There was a mix up in reservations. I booked on line and my reservacation on line said 2 double beds. There was only one bed in the room
Review 103:The Chambers restaurant
Review 104:The interior had an old hotel smell to it. The pool was over chlorinated and very very warm so uncomfortable for swimming. The main reason we chose this hotel over another in the area was for the pool and the hot tub. The hot tub was broken and we weren't told of this until we went to use it. The pool area was full of children whose parents kept apologizing for how loud it was but they were just having fun in an echo chamber. So it seems like a great spot for kids, but not so much for adults without them. The room ventilation was very old and noisy so we had to turn it off. Thankfully the windows opened so we had fresh air that way.
Review 105:Pleasing decor, comfortable bed, and a great location.
Review 106:I didn't like being told that due to the hotel hosting a large Christmas party I probably couldn't park . When I asked them what I should do they basically said it was my problem . They should have spaces reserved for guests . It was winter parking on the street so I could not leave my car on the street . Loud noisy Christmas party on . I had to request a higher room . Staff again didn't care . Not great behaviour from hotel staff . It is the problem with a smaller place to stay . They do not realize service could be what sets them apart from other areas . Next time I will stay at the Delta
Review 107:I liked the location of the hotel . Room was small for four people but adequate .
Review 108:Restaurant: although traditional, it was a bit dark/dingy and food was better elsewhere.
Review 109:Central location, excellent golf courses, pool area, staff friendliness, value for money.
Review 110:No restaurant service after 9 pm; as a business traveller this is key. Parking is primarily at back of parking lot - female solo traveller not comfortable with this option. Small bathroom - sit diagonal on the toilet seat.
Review 111:Beautiful hotel; older and has character.
Review 112:Walls are not really sound proof. You could people talking next door. Vending machines had no change so it cost me 450 for 2 little bags of stale chips.
Review 113:Staff were friendly, rooms were clean and location to downtown was excellent.
Review 114:Staff never explained any of the amenities. We ate elsewhere. Never received a bill on checkout. Staff was more focused on motorcoach traffic than welcoming us.
Review 115:Discovered the small but nice roof deck. Small but comfortable room.
Review 116:Air-conditioning and inability to directly open windows.
Review 117:The friendliness and eagerness to help of all the staff, whatever their job. The way the hotel has kept its original features. Lovely waiter-served breakfast. Revisiting where my parents were married in 1946!
Review 118:The plumbing was odd for the toilet, it had a steel handle to flush (like those on a urinal). It also made a great deal of noise when flushing.
Review 119:It was comfortable, and there was a good amount of space to move around. The front desk staff was very professional and helpful. Centrally located.
Review 120:very central to all downtown attractions, restaurants, shops etc very nice historic ambience, this is an older hotel, however comfortable, with very pleasant staff
Review 121:The front lobby was a little dated and dark but the rooms more than compensated
Review 122:The Simmons Beautyrest mattress was excellent as well as the young staff at the front desk. We spent 4 nights at the Rodd and would definitely return if we visit PEI again. The location was perfect for exploring Charlottetown and the entire island.
Review 123:When a rowdy group on our floor began partying I called the front desk to voice my concern. Without hesitation we were given another room, upgraded to a suite, and also given complimentary breakfast. Wow!
Review 124:The heat wasn't turned on for the season and it was a bit cool in our room. The staff was not able to do anything about that. The pillows on the bed were too thick - a choice would have been nice. I have a neck injury and require a thin pillow, in fact I prefer buckwheat so I probably should have brought my own.
Review 125:The old CN style of the hotel. We loved the quirky building, all the fabulous molding and decor. The beds were soo comfortable! The room was clean and spacious.
Review 126:See above
Review 127:Was excited about my sisters and my first trip to pei had gone online and booked a room for two nites the room we received was on the first floor it was very small and looked drab and dowdy. You could tell the tiles on the bathroom had water behind them and had never been fixed. There was many gouges out of the wallpaper. Most disappointing thing was when I checked out I was charged 150. First nite and 259 second mite there was nothing the front staff could do as was booked through booking . Com not happy
Review 128:A lot of older travellers - felt like a retirement village. Lot's of flies in the restaurant. Minor quibbles really as I'd stay there again for sure.
Review 129:Excellent location a walk to nearby attractions. Excellent staff.
Review 130:we were 3 senior ladies and we were told by staff to be quiet at 10:30 p.m. we do not drink ,we were talking and shared laughs in our room, when the person on duty told us that the walls are very thin and keep our voices down this is a first for me and my sisters. we very upset by this.
Review 131:the location, that,s it.
Review 132:The property was advertised as 4.5 stars - totally deceptive. The building is old, run-down, the room was not renovated, old and disgusting carpet with big stains everywhere, the bath room tiles were cracking, the room has unpleasant smell.. and very small. The entrance, lobby, elevator, all need refurbishment. The rate they charged $300 including fees and tax are outrageous in light of the quality. worse, the night we stayed they had a wedding just below our room and we had very hard time to request to move. The hotel adjusted our rate a bit lower but still experiences we had, it was a just horrible. Current one star motel, like super 8, provides much better quality.. and we are asking a full refund from the hotel management....... Unless you lower your expectation significantly, don't stay here !
Review 133:Location - close to the city center
Review 134:At the time of checkin, the hotel did not have our reservation in their system. Only after we proved our reservation through booking.com that they gave us a room. Luckily, they had one vacancy, so that we didn't have to find alternative accommodation for the night.
Review 135:For that price, our room was cramped, poor sound isolation (can hear conversation clearly from another room, not sure where), cannot watch basic TV channels like news, or weather (or hard to figure out how)
Review 136:great location and access to other restaurant and services around, definitely classy, cleanliness and upkeep for such an old building.
