Reviews for The Holman Grand Hotel

Review 1:We had a wonderful Christmas Eve at the Holman Grand. We were greeted with a tabletop Christmas tree in our room with a gift of a book of Island Photography. Though the restaurant was closed for the evening due to it being Christmas eve, the pool and hot tub were open and we truly enjoyed our visit!

Review 2:Great price for a lovely room and convenient location in the centre of Charlottetown. We had to stay an extra day on PEI at short notice, and this turned out to be a great place to stay.

Review 3:Didn't like the noise from snow removal equipment out front which cleaned the street all night long....continous sound of back up beeper......BUT we know this is completely out of control of hotel property!!!

Review 4:This is a newer hotel and the staff really made me feel welcome and valued. The hotel is quiet and I didn't hear any noise through the walls. This was good as we had a small baby with us who was awake at 5:30 am.

Review 5:The parking situation through the week and the workout room could of had more equipment

Review 6:The pool, bed/bedding, and the staff in general was really friendly and helpful, the location was awesome, the bodycare products were Aveda which I love, overall very very happy!!!!

Review 7:1-We ordered a bed for my 14 months old baby and the room service brought it to the room but he wasn't able to set it up so we had to return it back and we couldn't sleep all night because the baby was not feeling comfortable. 2-The little fridge was empty and if you want to drink water you have to call the front desk and they send you 2 bottles, so was wondering why don't the hotel leave two bottles of water at least since they are already complementary? that would be easy on guests. PLUS I just have an idea, I noticed when the person who brought the water he had them in his hands so I guess if he would've put them in a tray that would have been way more professional ;).

Review 8:The location is in the heart of the downtown area which is perfect. The beds are very comfortable plus they have an amazing pillows. The bathroom are very clean plus they have a great staff as well.

Review 9:Staff were wonderful, pleasant and helpful. the bed was quite comfortable--not an extra firm mattress, more like a medium firm--quite comfortable. the rooms are new and modern.

Review 10:No coin-operated laundry for longer business stays. Mi nor annoyances: Free wifi has to be renewed every 12 hours. Only valet parking available.

Review 11:Excellent location, great room. Excellent for business travel if you have a spouse travelling with you.

Review 12:Our room wasn't ready or wasn't available when we arrived. They offered instead to put us up in the hospitality suite on a sofa bed. The room was amazing from a view perspective but after driving for seven hours the thought of a sofa bed wasn't appealing so we declined the offer and they gave us the room we had originally booked. Not sure why they didn't just give us the regular room to begin with.

Review 13:Very clean room. Very modern.

Review 14:Sofa bed mattress was terrible and bed noisy. Lock for bathroom door on bedroom side not bathroom - should be the opposite. Bathroom door and glass window to bedroom should be switched to solid panels for light diffusion and privacy. Motion night light should be placed in bathroom.

Review 15:Perfect room for our situation - traveling with older couple, one in a wheelchair. Room was spacious, convenient with regular table, bathroom access great.

Review 16:Had asked for a blow dryer as the the one in the room didn't work. Did not receive one. Booked for a king size harbour view room received a double queen room which they said was an upgrade but the double queen was cheaper during booking.

Review 17:I got late checkout until 2 pm with no extra charge

Review 18:The only complaint is that the air conditioning was loud and could not be controlled from within the room. We found out only the day after that we could have asked the reception to turn it down.

Review 19:The room was airy, the bed really comfortable, location smack downtown.

Review 20:Hotel has fresh look, clean rooms, BEAUTIFUL shower/ barroom and was ideally located to walk every where. Staff was lovely. Definitely have a new Charlottetown go-to

Review 21:no remote for tv when we arrived. we had to get our card activated 3 times in 5 days stay. no harbour view which was advertised when we booked the room. paid for harbour view. the air conditioner switch was hard to figure out.

Review 22:close to downtown which is what we wanted.

Review 23:Parking--another $15 on top of the highest rates in town. We were there for a weekend--plenty of on-street parking all weekend over one of the biggest weekends during the year.

Review 24:Perfect place to stay if you want contemporary lodging in the most central location in Charlottetown.

Review 25:free wifi was poor quality. There was a premium option available for better connection speed, but this should be provided with the price of the room. the free wifi cut in and out regularly.

Review 26:fantastic downtown/waterfront location, great view from upper harbour facing rooms. Bed extremely comfortable, pool and hot tub were great.

Review 27:On check-in we enquired about staying an extra night. The lady was not very pleasant and gave a long detailed explanation about what was involved and how difficult it would be to arrange this for us. She said she would note our request and would call us to let us know. We never got the call and checked out as originally planned. It was obvious she never followed up on our request. Valet parking is $15/day. She charged us $45/day instead of $45 for the 3 nights. This was corrected by Sara with an apology for the mistake.

Review 28:Beautiful hotel in a great location downtown. Valet parking worked very well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly with great service. Room with harbour view on 9th floor was spacious, comfortable and quiet with a great view. Beautiful hotel.

Review 29:Parking could be a challenge unless you use valet.

Review 30:View was spectacular. Easy to find and close to restaurants and local attractions. Staff were very helpful.

Review 31:Shower design is poor...no door...water ends up all over the floor (I am 118 lbs. and tried everything to prevent spray). It would have been nice to have a retractable clothes line inside the shower.

Review 32:The only thing that wasn't the greatest was parking. You had to find street parking or get your car valet parked and the valet service was not included in the price of the room.

Review 33:I stayed there with my husband the night of our wedding and the staff left rose peddles on the bed and a card as well as a treat tray and they also left crackers and cheese for us later in the evening. They were very accommodating to a few requests that I had.

Review 34:Way too expensive for what you get - the room is quite small, the view is not inspiring, etc. There is only valet parking (unless you do on street parking which requires taking care of parking meters) which is expensive and makes you deal with the valet guy who delays giving you your key to pressure you into a tip. The floors in the rooms are laminate which gets cold and there are no slippers - we requested them, but they never arrived, the lady at the front desk said they have a limited number only. Ridiculous. In general the staff is unfriendly, you feel they only want to grab money from you but otherwise wish you weren't there. Not recommended.

Review 35:Good location right by the harbour, although the city is so small that this isn't such an important feature. Great pool and hot tub area.

Review 36:nothing.

Review 37:Truly a GREAT value for Charlottetown. A boutique style hotel with everything you could need in the room. SUPER comfy beds, lots of counter space in bathroom, big shower, great views of the harbour, minutes walk to harbour and great restaurants, great wifi. Bike storage. Carl our doorman was FAB! Thanks Carl.

Review 38:Overpriced.This is a 3.5 star hotel,it should cost $80.00 /nigjt.It is not worth $275.00

Review 39:Very good location. Comfortable room very modern furniture.

Review 40:Ni parking on site - valet parking fee added on - would be nice to have thus fee included in the price of the room

Review 41:Staff friendly and very helpfu. Clean quiet room. Great shower

Review 42:Parking was tricky. Charlottetown parking enforces between 8am and 5pm. You can leave your car on the street over night between 5pm and 8am. Before 8am throw money in the meter. 2hr max at a time for $2.25 on street near hotel streets 3hr max at a time on some other streets. Parking fine is $5 if you pay it quickly.

Review 43:Located very close to all the Charlottetown downtown attractions and restaurants

Review 44:I travel extensively so feel the hotel is overpriced for what you get - plus no parking other than valet - very odd. The ventilation/cooling system was poor - either off or listen to a small jet engine ...

Review 45:Staff were very helpful and professional

Review 46:Generous room, clean and the property has a modern boutique hotel feel to it. After a week on the road we needed laundry facilities to boot. I'd hate to say we picked it just for that reason. Would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Review 47:Internet was the weakest point of our stay. Having unknown company involved in internet connection exposes users to uncertainty of malicious malwares. I came to hotel to use internet and not figure out who Solution IP is. What I need is simple access to internet. Need change, it is 2015 and not 2005. Internet is everywhere and I also suspect that from a business point using unnecessary 3rd party company is a waste of money for this hotel. Need to change it.

Review 48:Location and comfort

Review 49:How well we were treated, especially with a young child with us. The stuff was awesome with our daughter and always asked how our night was. Very polite.

Review 50:There was some confusion with respect to the type of room that I had asked for, however the General Manager, John Cudmore, made every effort to make sure that this issue was remedied and that I was taken care of.

Review 51:The location was perfect...close to everything. The room was spotlessly clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable.

Review 52:The hotel was excellent in every way. Located across the street from the theatre it is an easy walk to see the "Anne of Green Gables" musical. There are many restaurants and shops in the immediate area. The lovely rooms were clean & spacious, with comfortable beds. Families are welcomed.

Review 53:Some of the staff let the place down a bit. More training needed, and the hotel appears understaffed in the evening.

Review 54:Great hotel in a good location. Clean, good facilities, good size rooms, friendly staff.

Review 55:We were told that the valet would take about 10 minutes to retrieve our vehicle. The first 2 mornings it took more than 30 minutes. We decided to park on the street for our 3rd night. Woke up the next morning to absolutely no hot water. Asked for a delayed check out since the lack of hot water was going to slow us down. We were turned down. Returned to the room at 2 minutes past noon (the check out time) to clear out our already packed luggage and couldn't get in. Had to go back down to get a new key. While in the process of loading the luggage cart we go a call reminding us of the check out time. We were 5 minutes late, no where near the delay in getting our vehicle from the valet and it sure doesn't make up for the inconvenience of no hot water. Who wants to travel 8 hours by plane without having taken a shower?

Review 56:Staff were very friendly.

Review 57:Most of the local restaurants don't offer vegetables with their meals

Review 58:Great Central location near many attractions and many places to take a walk. People were extremely polite and accommodating

Review 59:loud air conditioning kept me awake- request the main desk to turn it off in your room in the future.

Review 60:location, cleanliness of room, decor, great shower

Review 61:incheck procedure took about 30 minutes due to inexperience of the hotel clerck with use of credit card and key of rooms. During these difficulties he had a long conversation (10 minutes) with somebody asking general information about the hotel. the check out procedure (other hotel cleck) was even more clumsy: the invoice was a mess because data of my colleague and me were mixed, and it took 15 minutes to fix it. My customer picking us up was waiting all the time. unacceptable. I will notr visit the Holman Grand again.

Review 62:WiFi required signing on every few hours. Valet parking only - $15 per day.

Review 63:Hardwood floors - no dirty carpets. Scandinavian decor - clean and fresh. Two TVs - one facing a comfy sofabed/couch in the living area, one facing the bed. Bathroom had separate shower stall and tub, lots of towels and amenities. Kitchenette: Keurig coffeemaker, small sink, dishes for 4, free bottled water, bar fridge. Hotel is across the street from the Confederation Centre of the Arts, connected to the hotel by an underground tunnel.

Review 64:The cost I paid through this services was outrageous. I paid $275/ night. Those I travelled with that booked through the hotel paid $189. Explain that please.

Review 65:The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the valet parking. I would much rather be able to come and go at will. We were not ever made to feel like we were a bother for one second but I still would rather to have had another option.

Review 66:The staff were very friendly and helpful and we liked the location. Shopping on site in the mall was convenient especially since it was raining.

Review 67:Nothing.

Review 68:Great location, close to main attractions and not far from the harbour/sea front. Service in the hotel was excellent, reception at arrival, valet for parking, restaurant, from beginning to end of stay

Review 69:I asked for extra time because my flight was delayed, and I was charged an extra hour and was refused for a few hours. The hotel was not full so it's not like they needed the room.

Review 70:Friendly staff, but not accommodating, clean and nice lounge room.

Review 71:Apparently most rooms only have showers. The shower was beautiful but I find it inconvenient not to have a bath. I'd also prefer not to have to valet park the car.

Review 72:Fairly new hotel in the heart of Charlottetown with beautiful views and modern decor e.g. glass walk in shower, wood floors, fridge and safe in rooms. The location is excellent, but it means you have to valet park your car - I knew that when I made the reservation.

Review 73:There is a fan in the room that never stops blowing - you can control the temperature but not cannot turn it on or off, which makes it a bit noisy at all times.

Review 74:Staff were great, heated pool with hot tub.

Review 75:There was an open part that I felt was dangerous. There was a glass railing but I didn't like the design. The food at the restaurant was bland!

Review 76:The rooms were nice

Review 77:Telephones didn't work for calling out, the control for the fake fireplace didn't seem to work, and the televisions in fitness facility didn't work.

Review 78:Staff, beds, location, and the fact that it was a new hotel

Review 79:we went down at 6pm for dinner but was told since we didn't have a reservation we couldn't get in. its a hotel restaurant....make it available to guests

Review 80:Great location and easy to use parking service. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Aveda toiletries and robes completed the experience. Quiet. Highly recommend and are looking forward to staying here when we return to PEI.

Review 81:they forgot to make up our room one day-we left late.

Review 82:the room has a lot of natural light/has a scandinavian type of decor-you can walk to the theatre, water front, and there are restaurants plus a COWS store on the corner. good valet parking-quick to bring car around

Review 83:The heating fan in the room was uncomfortably loud and there was no way to moderate it within the room. It was difficult for us to sleep with it on. Lack of parking made the valet service an added expense

Review 84:Perfect location, great room with awesome view of harbour, loved the hardwoods, wonderful staff

Review 85:The Holman Grand is in an excellent location, easy walking distance to many restaurants. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Hotel is modern, clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 86:- Design of shower, water all over floor when I stepped out - Room key disabled after first night - No parking available - Staff not really friendly

Review 87:- View from room - Cleanliness of room and hotel

Review 88:If you are a light sleeper, I recommend having a room a little higher up as it is located of a major street (although not many cars at night)

Review 89:The location of this property is fabulous. Newly built and wonderfully comfortable beds!! Steak and eggs room service breakfast is amazing.

Review 90:Room was nice and clean. Restaurant was excellent, the chef was perfect. I celebrated my birthday in the restaurant. I won't forget the that lunch. The waiter was excellent.

Review 91:It was $200. a night.

Review 92:Best view in town we thought.. great location across from confederation house and provintial arts building. Right down town and waĺking distance to most thingd.

Review 93:Our "Harbourview" was very limited on the 5th floor. There were only two drawers for clothing. It took a bit to set everything we wanted in place.

Review 94:Loved the size and layout of the Island King Suite. Top quality amenities. First class. Loved the kitchenette for making coffee.

Review 95:They had a limited selection of single malts in the lounge downstairs (but there were good ones).

Review 96:Great hotel in a great location. The restaurant was very nice as well, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 97:For me the pillows were way too puffy and hurt my neck but I have a neck injury

Review 98:Loved the mattress- plan to buy one myself it was so enjoyable. Pool & hot tub were also great.

Review 99:the valet parking. there is underground parking around the corner for really low rates - I believe 8 dollars nightly.

Review 100:excellent location, modern room, very comfortable bed

Review 101:Lied to me about availability of local parking garage (because they want guests to use valet). Was told would have to park about 5 blocks away or go on meters. I found a garage (the same they use for valet since the hotel has NO parking of its own) a block away. Room very overpriced, cheap finishings, no provided linens for pull out couch, dirty floors, leaky shower, tried to charge for a bottle of wine we purchased elsewhere but drank in the room.

Review 102:Nothing

Review 103:Nothing, really. It would have been great to get late night room service after going out to a show but not a big deal.

Review 104:The staff at The Holman Grand were so helpful and courteous and the valet service was always prompt. It was great to come back to a sparkling clean room each day after touring the Island. The pool area was beautiful and immaculate and there was nothing better than slipping into one of the hotel's cozy robes and heading to the whirlpool. Our stay was great and I would recommend The Holman Grand to anyone going to Charlottetown.

Review 105:My husband and I spent two nights at the Holman Grand aug 14-16. After a long drive from Florida we were so pleased with the courtesy of the staff and comfort of the room. We had our little Chihuahua who was treated like a king! Great location and a a parade to boot!

Review 106:Not really sure who they target for customers. Very stark and almost clinical decor. Bare white walls no chairs/tables to sit in on the floor levels. One giant meeting room open to the top which does not lend to privacy. No real place to congregate in lobby. Lobby was next to the entrance to the mall and lacked identity and privacy. No complimentary coffee....had to buy one in the restaurant. Our rooms were not ready upon check in and then one was delayed by over two hours. We had requested rooms together and were not given that until we complained. Then we were put side by side but around the corner. There are rooms together that have separate doors creating an almost suite but we were not given that option. The doors to the bathrooms were opaque at parts and completely see through at others....not very family friendly. The hotel felt a bit like a medical office building. If you don't care about any of that and location is your priority then this is the place for you. A family, however, might do better somewhere else.

Review 107:The beds were super comfy Pool and jacuzzi were great although the waterfall feature was broken on night two. Location is excellent right in the heart of historic Charlottetown. The rooms were very clean. Valet service was convenient.

Review 108:Hotel is very modern but lacks character.

Review 109:Quiet rooms and very clean. The staff was pleasant and knowledgeable. Valet parking was reasonably priced and convenient. Great location downtown.

Review 110:open space in the middle of the hallway ( I am afraid of heights). no complimentary coffee or water in the lobby. the siding on the upper part of the building is sort of ugly. I would prefer all brick.

Review 111:two comfortable chairs in room. hard room floors made the room feel cleaner. placement of bathroom was convenient. bathroom was large. liked the surface and location of coffee maker and refrigerator away from the rest of the room.

Review 112:Valet parking at 15$ was slightly steep, however we found parking for the second day, which was Saturday. Also, possible to move car around the 8am-6pm enforcement window from M-F.

Review 113:Top of the city area, near Province House, museums and Victoria Row. Plenty of cafes and services nearby, including banks and Post on Kent St. Easy stroll down to the wharf and Confederate Landing.

Review 114:Paying for parking. Overpriced for $250 a room - 3 little drawers for clothing. No fan in bathroom. Not at all luxurious. Very average but modern.

Review 115:Location.

Review 116:We were there for 4 nights and on 2 occasions our room was not made up until after 4 PM - not acceptable when you have been out all day sight-seeing and have to wait around in the lobby for this to be finished.

Review 117:Great location in downtown Charlottetown within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and historical locations. The valet parking is well worth the extra expense.

Review 118:No onsite parking. The bathrooms were a problem only in that there are no shower doors, only a half glass and some water when showering went out onto the bathroom floor. Had to keep the shower head towards the back wall so that it wouldn't spray onto the floor. You can see through the bathroom doors (on the sides and top) even though they are partially frosted. Had to ask for a covering for it.

Review 119:Hotel was so clean, rooms were spotless. Loved the floors with no carpet. Air conditioning worked wonderfully. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and we would definitely go back and recommend to other people.

Review 120:Our room only had a stand up shower. When booking online it did not state that here was no tub in the room that we booked.

Review 121:I loved that it was so close to downtown. We asked for some attractions to go to and they recommended lots to us. We went on a horse and carriage ride. Very friendly staff.

Review 122:Can't think of a thing we did not like.

Review 123:Excellent location in the heart of the city. We gave the car to the valet at checkin and never saw it again until checkout. We walked everywhere. We enjoyed the convenient mall connected to the hotel. Also, fabulous dock view from our room. Worth the cost.

Review 124:trying to be high end but not necessarily good value when compared to another hotel that we stayed at in PEI.

Review 125:location, location, location great pool hours

Review 126:A bit pricey but it was definitely a luxury hotel.

Review 127:The front desk service was fantastic. The valet service was well worth the cost and the young men handling this service we excellent. The room was large and very clean and comfortable.

Review 128:Lack of parking, other than using the valet all the time was a bit of a bore. And given the price, clean towels would have been nice plus the replacement of toiletries such as shampoo and hair conditioner were expected but not received.

Review 129:The Hotel location is good to walk to most places in Charlottetown and the personnel and facilities were very good.

Review 130:Paying for parking, expensive restaurant limited menu, small pool, 2 small drawers to store clothing in room, rooms didn't feel high end. Not great value for money.

Review 131:Location and cleanliness

Review 132:We stayed for three nights and it wasn't until day three (so the day before we checked out) that our room got checked by housekeeping for fresh towels, clean cups, make the bed etc.

Review 133:The location is fantastic, within walking distance to pretty much everything.
