Reviews for Hotel Zehnthof
Review 1:The decor looked rather old and in need of a update.
Review 2:The staff were wonderful and even had a house champagne they gave us at check out. The room was very clean and the location is minutes walk across the bridge to downtown Cochem's
Review 3:Room 12 has hotel heating plant next door. We had to change rooms because of the noise. Parking was 150m away on street not at hotel as advertised. Not on the river. One could see it but only when high up and between other buildings
Review 4:My wife and I spent one night here and cannot say anything but great things. The location is great. Just a short walk across the bridge to downtown however there are plenty of restaurants and bars on the hotel's side. Its about a 10 minute scenic walk to the train station. Its location facing Cochem gives you a great view of the river, downtown and the castle. The hotel staff is phenomenal. A husband and wife team runs a flawless operation. They are open, incredibly friendly and very helpful. We are English speakers and both spoke great English. The room was ready for check-in by 10 and the owners let you leave your luggage in a storage room after checkout so that you don't need to drag it around town. Breakfast is traditional German with wonderful breads, meats and chesses from around the region. We only spent one night here and we regret it. Plan on at least 2 nights in Cochem. This hotel was the best one of our 2 weeks trip around Germany. The owners are truly wonderful people and will do everything possible to ensure you enjoy your visit.
Review 5:We are experienced travelers with an eye for international quality and priceworthyness. This is an overpriced hotel on the "wrong" side of Mosel river. We payed 135 Euro for a double (actually a triple). Our room, number 21, was clean, but old fashioned and in need of restoration. Breakfast was nothing special, quite bad actually.
Review 6:Friendly staff
Review 7:My gps had a little difficulty in finding the right street. Parking was a little difficult.
Review 8:Bedroom was very clean and modern, bathroom excellent. Very good breakfast buffet. Adequate bar. Jacqueline was very welcoming and spoke excellent English. Werner was a very amusing and entertaining evening host/ manager, also spoke excellent English. thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.
Review 9:We arrived in the morning. The gave us directions to sites we wanted to visit!. We were given vague directions where to park and a pass to put in ca r window but this area we thought was temporary. Fortunately they gave us a key to our room and hotel entrance door. They have a limited parking area near the hotel. When we returned at night the doors were locked and no one to answer where we should put the car! Finally someone arrived at the hotel and told us we could use parking pass on the street! A bit concerning as we didn't want our rental car to be towed or ticketed!
Review 10:Location good - short walk into town! Staff friendly and accommodating. Good breakfast! Rooms a bit outdated but clean. Lovely view of the castle from our balcony!!
Review 11:Great hotel with the following caveat: no elevator so prospective guests with mobility issues should request a lower floor.
Review 12:Ideal location. Clean comfortable with excellent breakfast. Hosts are very helpful and do whatever they can to assist their guests. Fifteen minute walk to the train station.
Review 13:The staff was super friendly. We arrived late and they were there to welcome us. Location was lovely. Our balcony overlooked the Mosel. The room was large compared to other German hotels. Great breakfast.
Review 14:no lift for upper floor levels
Review 15:The location is great very close to local restaurants. Depending on the room you have a wonderful of the town and the castle. The breakfast was delicious, fully loaded even for late comers.
Review 16:I would have appreciated coffee/tea making facilities. And a small shelf under the mirror in the entrance for make up etc (the bathroom mirror was so high I couldn't see myself!!!)
Review 17:The location is excellent, an easy walk over the bridge to the old town and castle. Stunning views from our balcony of the Castle and river. The staff/family were so helpful and friendly, they've created a lovely atmosphere. Secure free parking was good.
Review 18:Pillows were too soft for us, but that is all really.
Review 19:Very cure hotel 5 minutes walk from the shopping/busy street area. The room was simple but extremely clean and tidy. Felt really cozy there. The owners and staff were extremely friendly, always with a smile and willing to offer any help. We traveled with a 5 months old baby for the weekend and they had the baby cot all ready at the room and straight away offered us help with warming milk and water if we needed. Breakfast was really nice too. Overall a great weekend on a beautiful little town, definitely recommend and will be definitely going back.
Review 20:Nothing bad - all good
Review 21:Service and welcome from owners/staff were as good as I seen. Breakfast service, quality was excellent and no feeling of being rushed. This made good atmosphere. I didn't hear single word of complaint - only praise. Well deserved.
Review 22:There was no elevator and the hotel is located on the less busy side of the river. It's a longer walk from the train station and the tourist destinations.
Review 23:Very cute hotel with a wonderful staff. The breakfast was very good. The room was pretty big and had a lovely balcony.
Review 24:Can't think of anything!
Review 25:Excellent hosts, great for families with kids, large family room, plus a small playing area near the lobby for kids to pass a bit of time, good location right across the bridge from the pedestrian zone in town
Review 26:For us wrinklies, a lift would have been good. However staff took care of the baggage donkey work.
Review 27:Friendliness of family and staff. Nothing is too much trouble.
Review 28:Nothing
Review 29:Very friendly family run Hotel. The Bar/ night porter was a mind of information and very helpful. Our room was in another building two doors away from the main hotel but overlooked the river and there were some very good cafes and bars close by.
Review 30:Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a large room with balcony. The location was perfect for us, easy to drive to and just a short walk over the bridge into the shopping area.
Review 31:Can't think of one.
Review 32:Very friendly and helpful staff, in a hotel with tons of character. A comfortable room and the hotel managed to meet our request for a balcony an view of the river.
Review 33:STAFF TOTALLY DEDICATED, AND RESPONSIVE TO, CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS. GENUINELY INTERESTED IN THE COMFORT AND ENJOYENT OF GUESTS. ON LEAVING WE WERE EVEN PRESENTED WITH GIFTS OF WINE AND OTHER LOCAL PRODUCE AS A THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING HOTEL ZENTHOF. A DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE.
Review 34:No car park at the hotel. Had to park in a street by the river and display a parking permit which was free from the hotel.
Review 35:Brilliant friendly staff that couldn't be more helpful. Location, close to the shops, bars and river
Review 36:We had a 3rd (US third) floor room which gave us the view, but there isn't an elevator.
Review 37:We had a nice room with a river view. Very friendly staff. On the other side of the river from the Old Town so that you have a lovely, scenic stroll to there from the hotel.
Review 38:The morning traffic on the road behind the hotel was quite busy in the mornings, less busy at night. Request a river side room for the most restful night's sleep.
Review 39:The pride and focus on customer service is obvious from the moment to your arrive. The host assisted in caring our bags, provided excellent suggestions for dining, and arranged for our taxi when we left. They even opened their breakfast bistro early to accommodate our early departure. The hotel is situated just a short walk to everything. From the train station, about a 20 minute walk, but only a five minute taxi ride for $5. Their lovely bistro served some very nice wines and was the perfect place to sit and relax after a day of exploring the river valley. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our friendly, attentive hosts. Highly recommend!
Review 40:The step down from the shower was deep so not good if you are a little unsteady. No lift but staff took luggage up and down from room.
Review 41:Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Great location for the Alstadt and buses but a 15min walk to the train station. Great breakfast.
Review 42:Wi-Fi was very poor, our booking was made on the basis that we would be able to access the internet, we could not. This is a problem we find far too often. Hotels should only advertise as having WiFi (free or otherwise) if it is actually capable of accessing the internet. If the service is limited (e.g., to public spaces or the hotel lobby) this should be declared.
Review 43:Good location away from the noisiest part of Cochem. Friendly welcome from the owners. Breakfast was fine.
Review 44:The only less than desirable part of our experience was the extra bed in our triple room. The bed was a fold out from a chair and was extremely firm with little give to the mattress. We wound up using extra down comforters stored in a cabinet to add extra layers to sleep upon. We were thankful the extra comforters were accessible to us.
Review 45:The hosts engaged in conversation about our stay, the location was very easy to access, they were able to refer us to a bike rental place and the king sized bed was very comfortable. Their breakfast was the best of our trip!!
Review 46:There is no elevator but the staff helps with the luggage. If there are heavy smoking guests with balconies and you don't like cigarette smoke, you have to move inside until they are finished puffing away. But it didn't happen that often.
Review 47:The owners are friendly and accommodating. The location is quiet at night as it is across the river from the main part of town. It's a short walk across the bridge if one wants to go there. We had a larg room with a balcony and spent the first day on it absorbing the view of the castle, the town, and the bridge while reading and resting. The breakfast is ample with many selections. There is no smoking inside the building.
Review 48:There is a lack of elevator, however the staff were very helpful in helping us move our luggage. Mattresses could be better.
Review 49:The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacey, and the location of the hotel is great. Very tasty breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 50:Wi-fi was slow
Review 51:From the moment we arrived the staff made sure all our needs were taken care of ....the breakfast was excellent. ..a short walk to Everything. ..We will be back and recommend this place highly
Review 52:The only thing was the weather... but that is not the Hotel's fault.
Review 53:We had a very nice spacious room with balcony and great view towards Cochem bridge and its Castle. Breakfast was daily fresh and even the manager let all taste their own Sekt at breakfast! We loved it here, good personal attention and very polite people.
Review 54:The double bed was in fact two single beds put next to one another that moved apart quite easily.
Review 55:The balcony and view to the river, even though we made a last-minute booking. The size of the room and bathroom.
Review 56:The bed was a little uncomfortable
Review 57:The owners are extremely hospitable and nice. I liked the feel of a family-run hotel. They really made us feel at home. The view from the room was also excellent.
Review 58:The lamp next to the bed made a ticking noise all night & I didn't figure out how to rectify this for some hours (take the bulb out). Wifi was patchy & the price was as high as a lot of other much more modern hotels with more comfortable beds we've stayed in over the past 2 weeks.
Review 59:Our room had a balcony with a view of the Mosel River to the right & Reichsburg castle to the left. The hosts were fabulous & made our eggs to order in the morning, which was a nice touch. The room had a bar fridge which was handy.
Review 60:No tea and coffee facilities in room, but that is quite normal in Germany. But I was given some milk which I kept in the fridge as I had my own travel kettle
Review 61:If I could give the staff higher than excellent I would! I was made to feel at home From my room I could see the river between buildings and the castle above rooftops My case was carried to my room for me Had a comfort room, which was large and comfortable The bathroom was quite small but perfectly acceptable Main part of Cochem a short walk across the bridge. Station about 15 minutes by foot
Review 62:And it was also the least expensive! We loved everything about this small, family-run hotel--the friendly service, the spacious room with the balcony overlooking the Mosel, the delicious breakfasts, and the location on of the quiet side of Cochem.
Review 63:The owners are so friendly and kind. The owner helped us to carry our heavy luggage to the third floor, and prepared all the things you need during the stay. The chocolate croissants are good! The view of the castle from the room is great!
Review 64:No elevator.
Review 65:The hotel is across from the main city, which upon first guess coming into town may not be ideal. But staying over the bridge from the center is nice. Not only is it very quiet, the view from the river side is outstanding. We had a balcony with a view of the castle and river, it was lovely. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and abundantly helpful. The only negative was that there is no elevator. It would have been fine for me, but my 70 year old grandmother had a hard time. Breakfast was good. Sat in the bar one evening and spoke with the overnight man, very nice! Good selection of wine. Small but manageable bathroom. I would definitely stay here again and refer to others!
Review 66:nothing to say
Review 67:The staff were wonderful---during our days there we met the owners and their entire families--a reat treat as we have nothing in USA to compare to this. Each time we passed the reception we were greeted and ask if they could help us in any way. We were given room 15 with a balcony--we sat out on the balcony, enjoyed wine and cheese and really stayed outside quite alot just watching the people across the river and the castle atop the hill. The temperature was so pleasant and sice there are no flying bugs in Germany we slept with the door wide open--to enjoy cool air is a real treat for us as we have total AC everywhere in USA.The firework display over the castle and from the bridge were most spectacular--we had the best seat on the river on our balcony. Breakfast had cereal, fresh fruit, 2 kinds of eggs, meats, sausages, cheese, champagne, so many baked choices-- simply plentiful, beautiful, and tasty. Our beds were most comfortable and the bath spotless, huge towels, and soft bed linens. We needed to print from the internet and the owners were so kind as to allow us use of their printer. The mini bar was reasonably priced which made no need to go to a local market for bier, wine, and sodas. We will definitely return to this wonderful truly Germany hotel as often as we can visit our Cochem friends.
Review 68:Bed was rather soft and had the usual daft German style pillows that are huge but compress to nothing when you use them. Walls v thin - could hear conversation in next room.
Review 69:Great location away from the hustle & bustle of Cochem centre. Very friendly welcome with helpful advice and free car parking. Good breakfast. Great view of river and castle from 3rd floor room with balcony. A traditional German hotel with a great deal of charm & character but modernised and spotlessly clean. Perfect free wifi service thanks to wifi extenders fitted in corridors; so simple - why can't all hotels do the same?
Review 70:No lift, but was good exercise.
Review 71:The owner's were so welcoming, spoke great English, carried bags to room, called us a taxi & had breakfast available to accommodate our early departure.
Review 72:Only one "universal" bottle of hand soap/shampoo/conditioner/body wash was provided for all purposes. No tissue ( Kleenex). Very thin, worn-out towels. The room was very hot without air conditioner.
Review 73:Excellent staff, very eager to please. Comfortable bed, decent breakfast.
Review 74:Excellent Hotel run by a very friendly family. Heart breakfast served from 8 - 12 allowing for the early risers and those who want to sleep in. No elevators but if you can handle the stairs get an upper room with a balcony - the view is worth it.Across from "main" Cochem bit I think this better because of the views of the castle, Mosel and Town. I don't think you will be disapointed.
Review 75:Staff went out of their way to help us out. We were travelling with an infant and toddler. Weather was extremely warm the wknd we visited and we knew the rooms had no aircon. We thought we would have a fan in room but alas no. We were decided that we would try to find a fan somewhere nearbh even if it was to just leave behind afterwards. Next day though a mobile aircon unit was put in our room. What a difference! You wont go hungry with the breakfast served in this establishment either. Sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, boilet eggs, meat and cheese platter, yogourt, cereal, fruit, juices, coffee, tea, and even a glass of sparkling wine. Room was clean and simple but where they may lack in top of line or designer rooms, they more than make up with first class service. Thanks again for a lovely wknd!
Review 76:nothing
Review 77:loved the room with balcony view of the river. room were older style but still very clean and comfortable. owner was very friendly and helped us locate parkiing. free parking and wifi. breakfast was adequate.

Review 81:We loved the staff/owner of the property. Very helpful. This was thebest homemade breakfast we had our entire month long stay in Europe. This town is an amazing hidden gem. Would stay again.
