Reviews for Hotel at the Waldorf

Review 1:Forgot to bring towels twice

Review 2:Booked due to perfect location for East Van craft beer crawl. Also enjoyed New Year's Eve party there. Very helpful at front desk. Not perfect but great spot for the money.

Review 3:Was old worn and dated. Was about a foot between the toilet and the wall. Challenging to use toilet and awkward to get past toilet to sink. Decor frumpy. Carpet worn.

Review 4:The room is very dirty. Old used toothbrush was found in a drawer with food crumbs and dirt. There were stains all over the mattress cover sheet and bugs that could have been cockroaches in the room. There was mold all over the tiles in the bathroom. The front desk staff when checking out was informed of all of this, I even showed her pictures but she didn't care and wouldn't do anything. Would not recommend this hotel and would never stay there again.

Review 5:The location was ok.

Review 6:The front desk closes at eleven pm. So if you're planning on arriving late, make sure you call ahead or rearrange your plans. The front desk guy was nice enough to stay late until midnight to accommodate us. Also, the hotel is extremely old, which I don't mind. But the standard rooms are very small. Just enough room for a bed and a tiny bathroom. The rooms were also not very clean. Lots of dust bunnies under the bed when I went to find a plug to charge my phone.

Review 7:The hotel itself seemed like a fun concept. Has a bar downstairs that had a few bands play on a Tuesday night. It was centrally located between downtown and south Main street that has a lot of up and coming restaurants and bars.

Review 8:the rooms were not very clean and had a damp tight feel. The passages also had a funny smell. the bed was noisy and uncomfortable

Review 9:the staff were friendly and very helpful. the environment is quiet which makes sleeping at night very peaceful

Review 10:There was only a heater in the room no air conditioning It was very old school with old decor Was a little bit out of the main city

Review 11:Staff was happy and helpful

Review 12:Small room, very noisy air-pipes next to the window, dirt under bed and quity dirty toalet

Review 13:Good price, 10 minut to the center by car, close to the bus stop, free parking, wifi

Review 14:Wondering if I had to worry about my car out in the side parking lot. Nothing did happen to it.

Review 15:Schwarz/Douglas wedding. Very attentive staff on the phone and in person! Food great, pleasantly served, manager checked with groom that all was going well,

Review 16:Room reasonably priced, comfy bed, friendly staff in an up and coming neighbourhood conveniently located. Great Tiki themed restaurant and bars with friendly staff who will go out of their way for guests.

Review 17:The room had only one badly stained duvet for two beds and no duvet cover. We asked repeatedly for a second duvet and a cover and were brought a couple of old bedspreads instead. The cold water tap in the bathroom was broken, the walls and carpets horribly stained, and the tub sloped downwards making me nervous it would cave in if I had a shower. There was also no maid service while we were there (2 nights). I would not have minded the place at all if I was paying $40-$50 or so a night. After all, you get what you pay for... BUT at a $100 per night, all I could think of was that we could have had a "real" hotel for that price or less. I probably sound snobby and I'm not. I just don't think the room was close to worth $100 / night. $40 or $50 sure. The single bed rooms may not be as bad... I did peek in on one that had an open door when the maid (YES!) was cleaning it as I checked out.

Review 18:The location was the point. I wanted to be in East Van to be close to family during my stay. The adjoining restaurant had good service and food, albeit a bit pricey. The cold beer and wine store is around the corner, Starbucks for real coffee just across the street, and the brilliant breakfast restaurant "Yolks" just down the street. Parking was easy and free. The beds were comfortable.

Review 19:The niteclub has DJ's on Saturdays in the Tiki Room and no matter where you are staying in the hotel - you will hear a low level bass thumping to 2 am in the morning. Also, if you you have a room on Mclean street, you'll hear truck and car noise all nite.

Review 20:Great value for money. I stayed 2 weeks here in Sept 2015 because I needed to be close to downtown Vancouver and Commercial Drive. Just the basics, but friendly staff, restaurant, bar and nightclub on site.

Review 21:This property needs a total cleanup. Rugs were filthy halls very dark. Room needed a repaint. No blanket on bed. When retrieved a blanket from closet large bug flew out. A total of two towels. Even closed windows did not prevent outside noise from disturbing sleep. Lots of foul language either from street people or local bar clientel. Outside the hotel was littered with litter. A direct contrast to Starbucks across the street who had employees cleaning the outside area.

Review 22:Staff was very accomodating. Parking provided. Good internet.

Review 23:- room was not totally clean (waterbottle under bed, shaving knife in shower) - the smell was 'muf' like dust - old hotel, with dirty dusty carpet and old bathrooms - Not worth the money

Review 24:Out of downtime, but easy connection with bus

Review 25:Terrible bed (no blanket), EXTREMELY NOISY because of the bar downstairs, my room was literally shaking from the music, not very cleanly,

Review 26:Free wifi and parking was the only good thing about the hotel

Review 27:Con: The location was horrendous Needles in the parking lot The place smelled like an old age home The windows are cheap and you can hear everything from the street level

Review 28:Pro: The value for the money is excellent. Room was clean. Hot water and pressure was excellent TV channel section was excellent

Review 29:Very noisy location, with uncomfortable beds. Not very well cleaned either, with hairs in the shower.

Review 30:Wifi was good, and there is an AC unit in each room, which is nice.

Review 31:Poor Location. Homeless people sleeping out in front of the building. Dirty streets and glass all over the parking lot. Beds very uncomfortable.

Review 32:Older hotel but fairly clean

Review 33:Our first night was horrible , there was a big air conditioner right outside our window very noisy , We got a different room the next night. a little bit better but still very noisy , 5 night's there up at 6 every morning because of so much noise. Bathroom was NOT cleaned properly , bed was not cleaned once in 5 nights. they didn't have fitted sheets , there was a flat sheet on bottom which would move and reveal a very stained mattress. Will definitely pay a bit more for a better hotel next time.

Review 34:The front desk staff was very helpful .

Review 35:This hotel has a very loud bar connected to it. This is not made clear on their website. I could clearly hear the lyrics of every song played in the bar when in my room. If you are an adult and not into partying, don't stay here.

Review 36:The bed was quite comfortable.

Review 37:Bad Neighborhood. Not safe enough to walk around the neighborhood to explore the location late in the night... We didn't also apprciate that the coffee machine in the room wasn't clean. As a personal opinion, the room will look better with a orange head lights instead of white

Review 38:Staff is polite, friendly and helpful . The price was fair including the WiFi , the comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom and the good service.

Review 39:Terrible location. Nothing within walking distance and a lot of homeless. Noisy road and bar.

Review 40:Staff were helpful. Rooms were fairly nice. Not too expensive.

Review 41:The hotel is very noisey, but they do offer complimentary ear plugs. Room could use better cleaning. No bath mat. No AC so a fan would be nice. A rug shampoo in hallways would give a much improved first impression.

Review 42:The location, easy to access interesting sites in Van. Parking was excellent-plentiful. Front desk and cleaning staff very friendly. Our room was a nice size..

Review 43:The area. Being on E Hastings you cant help the people who hung around however i heard many sirens at night, loud talking and yelling outside my window.

Review 44:I really enjoyed the room. Really cute look with the bamboo and nice and neat

Review 45:if you are there to sleep, I don't recommend Saturday night. The bar under the hotel plays music very loud until 2AM.

Review 46:Bed is comfy and staffs is very nice. Restaurant is next to the hotel. Nice location, not too far from Stanley park

Review 47:there was no desk or table top for computer use, spartan decor, was on street side and poor sound proofing, stayed two days , no maid service.. the room was untouched after 12 hours away from it the bed was just as I left italso no fitted sheet so it came loose thru the night

Review 48:took a king room comfortable bed

Review 49:Nothing!

Review 50:This was such an easy hotel to stay at, had everything we needed and easy access to everything in vancouver. The area is a little rougher but definitely felt safe walking around alone.

Review 51:As a warning for some people that might have heard, there is a club thats open on the weekend, towards the west half of the building, but if you ask for a room towards the north east side, they will be happy to accommodate you, we stayed there for 3 weeks and we never had any problems sleeping.

Review 52:The room was very nice and spacious, beds were soft, bathrooms clean, staff were very accomodating, free wifi. The location might not be in the best area, but we felt very safe as the manager was always there, and he personally made sure the premises around the hotel was secured. The staff were awesome and friendly too, thanks for everything!!

Review 53:Located on Hasting street which has many homeless people. Watch out when you go out late at night. A little noisy at night since there's a pub downstairs and very near the road.

Review 54:The staff are very nice and welcoming. The room is cozy, decorated with modern furniture and comfortable bed. They offer every nice natural shampoo, hair conditioner and body lotion in the washroom.

Review 55:watch out in the shower. The temperature control is tricky and fluctuates. I scolded myself a few times during my stay. They really need to fix that. You barely turn the knob for hot water and it gets hot enough to make coffee. Sometimes you don't touch and it can go from freezing to steaming. There is nothing around the hotel; its in an isolated area. If you're trying to get a good nights sleep on the weekends don't count on it. The club in the basement of the hotel shakes the place until 2am.

Review 56:Nice modern, clean room. Friendly staff.

Review 57:I would encourage the management to go to Home Depot and order a carpet washer. They cost about $1000. Then get your staff to wash the hall carpets every 6 months or as needed. I do this in the apartment building I manage and it makes a big difference for a relatively low cost.

Review 58:The location is very central. There are good restaurants close by and convenience stores. Only 10 minutes from down town. Nice clean bed and washroom. Good value.

Review 59:The bottom sheet of the bed wasn't a fitted bottom sheet, it was just a sheet that covered the mattress. And I would have liked to have an extra pillow and blanket. But the heater worked great and I had a fantastic night of sleep, which is all that matters in the long run.

Review 60:I needed a place to stay at the last minute. I already knew the Waldorf because I had gone to their reopening a few years ago after they had renovated. For the price I was paying, I knew that it would be for one of their smaller rooms with a small bathroom and shower, which was exactly what I wanted. And the room was perfect. I had a comfortable bed queen size bed, a TV, and WiFi. I had a great night of sleep.

Review 61:We were on the first floor - and it sounded like the speakers from the club below us were in our room. We just got home from a night out so it wasn't a big deal - but if someone went to bed early it could have been a problem.

Review 62:We like the retro look of the hotel and room. Very friendly staff

Review 63:I stayed on a weekend, and there was an outdoor concert going on in the parking lot Saturday afternoon, that later moved inside to the bar and continued into the night. It was very loud, and made it hard to sleep.

Review 64:Room was small but very nice, freshly decorated and everything looked new. Bed was comfortable, and location was good for me on this trip

Review 65:The hotel is located in a run-down unattractive part of town far away from the town centre along seedy East Hastings Street. Room was tiny and smelled of smoke. Bad value for money. It has an attached bar / disco.

Review 66:It was a bit far from all the cool neighborhoods.

Review 67:This hotel had a lot of character. It was not the most luxurious, but the bed was comfortable and cozy.

Review 68:You can hear the music from the bar downstairs but we got to bed late and were very tired so it didn't bother us. I sleep better with white noise anyhow.

Review 69:I wanted a room for the night that was clean and comfortable to get a good night's sleep in and it delivered. The neighborhood isn't as bad as people say at all. The location is very convenient and made using transit a breeze. The staff is very nice and accommodating and the restaurant attached has great, reasonably priced food with nice staff also. If you're looking for a hotel that you can spend time in that has a luxurious Spa like atmosphere, this isn't it but if you want somewhere to sleep while you go about your day doing other things it's great for that.

Review 70:Very unenthusiastic front desk clerk . Lots of garbage and filth out around the outside of building and parking lot . The wifi was S**T .. Not the best area.. THe tiki lounge was not open .. Seems like the place was sort of fixed up for aesthetics before it gets plowed down for you know it more condos ..

Review 71:The restaurant was great .. Free parking .. (although not a good area and I was worried about my truck ) Location is ok if you dont mind trasit to dt .

Review 87:The price

Review 89:Location was good, staff very friendly and helpful

Review 90:Nice hotel in convenient location

Review 93:Really cool old Art Deco but very well presented

Review 94:staff, wifi worked

Review 95:Location, a little too far out from downtown, wedding music continued to 12.45 in the morning, no fridge and no lift

Review 96:Easy access to buses, quiet for a city, access to stores for foods, easy to find.

Review 97:Hotel is right on a busy street, very loud. Small room with a tiny bathroom. No ice machine.

Review 98:Nice young clerk helped us use a city bus.

Review 99:Don't stay above the liquor store below very noisy.

Review 100:If you want an early nights sleep you might not appreciate reggae night club next door.

Review 101:Location right on bus line. Grocery across the street

Review 102:good location

Review 103:Some hair in the toilet.

Review 104:The location was close to the PNE. Staff were really friendly and concern for the enjoyment of our stay.
