Reviews for West Coast Suites at UBC
Review 1:Housekeeping is sometimes a little lax, burned out lightbulbs, some minor trash left behind. If room faces the transit center it can be quite noisy even late at night. Noises from adjacent rooms carry through easily.
Review 2:Location is excellent if visiting UBC. Rooms are large and kitchenettes adequate. Bedding is clean and comfortable.
Review 3:Cold. Temperature can only set to 20C max. We spent Christmas there and it was -4C. It was very cold at night. No full size mirror. Only a small mirror in the bathroom. We didn.t know what we look like before we went out.
Review 4:Big room very clean.
Review 5:Baseboard heating did not work in bedroom. This may have been a problem if there had been four staying and the doors were closed between living room with hideabed couch and the bedroom. Only one mirror in small bathroom.
Review 6:Close to where we needed to be for an evening event. Parking close & free albeit not secured. Suite had been recently renovated & was comfortable.
Review 7:My fridge was leaking water. I had to Google The hotels phone number as the phone wasn't working when I tried calling the front desk several times. The pots that I used weren't full cleaned. There was screaming and yelling from the floor above me.
Review 8:Very comfortable bed
Review 9:Tried to contact front desk unsuccessfully once and didn't try again. It was after hours.
Review 10:Quiet, close to hospital, walking distance to many facilities and many buses for use if required
Review 11:Checkin was a bit slow, as one fellow was very busy and the other fellow was "not allowed" to do checkin.
Review 12:Proximity to transit and lots of facilities within walking range.
Review 13:Couldn't find an ice machine anywhere.
Review 14:Hotel was great. We were visiting someone living in Walter Gage so couldn't have been more convenient! Parking was excellent. Room was great! Bed was comfy!
Review 15:Staff was there for students and as a guest I felt second best. Rarely any staff at desk-had. To CAll them in from back room. Dialed zero , from room to get front desk to ask for another packet of coffee, but apparently that. Service. Not available. When I went to check out, I didn't even get a bill!
Review 16:We enjoyed the suite itself. Clean, roomy, balcony.
Review 17:The location on the UBC campus makes this facility an ideal place to stay for anyone taking part in an event at the university. The staff were very friendly and acomodating and acceded to my requests, including a late check-out. Lots of handy parking immediately adjacent to the building.
Review 18:It would be great if they could find a way to offer air conditioning. It was hot during our stay and the table fan was not a great substitute for a/c.
Review 19:Good value for the money in Vancouver for a clean comfortable stay. We actually stayed here again on the last night of our trip out west and found a laundry facility on our floor. Great local eatery's and grocery store in the area.
Review 20:Excellent comfort, convenience (close proximity to my meetings on campus), very clean, quiet. I particularly liked the bathroom and bedroom, but the kitchen, eating and living areas were also very nice.
Review 21:We had a bit of difficulty finding the hotel as the sign was not visible from the main road.
Review 22:Good location and easy walk to the Chan Centre for Performing Arts.
Review 23:Attached to student apartments so it was noisy outside and check in was at student center. Also no maid service. We were out all day and no one made bed, cleaned bathroom, etc.
Review 24:The suite was spacious and well appointed.
Review 25:challenge to get food, especially when arriving in the evening from airport / meetings. Would be nice to have convenience store to get basic groceries especially as there is a full kitchen in the suites.
Review 26:Like the location as i can walk to all my meetings on campus
Review 27:Excellent location for the Davis Cup. The facilities were awesome with the kitchen, extremely comfortable bed, reasonably quiet location except for the middle of the night fire alarm next door.
Review 28:I had to take an important exam the day after the night I was there, but I couldn´t sleep because of the noise comming from outside. I wish they used double walled glass for windows.
Review 29:It was a clean, well equiped place with helpful staff and easy access to UBC.
Review 30:Staff are indifferent and downright rude. It seems like they are offended by basic request and questions. Not a big surprise since this is an extension of a student dorm.
Review 31:Decent sized suite, good kitchen facilities
Review 32:The pullout couch was very uncomfortable for our son and he ended up sleeping on the floor with some blankets!
Review 33:Our bed was very white and clean with soft comfortable mattress, duvet and pillows. We had everything we needed in the small kitchen and the room was very quiet! We had a great stay!
Review 34:Fan is noisy, limited parking even though you have to pay, noisy outside room and above room, limited bathroom space, small tv. When arriving outside and parking, a lady was peeing on a tree right in front of where we were parking.
Review 35:Comfort of bed
Review 36:My internet kept cutting off in important Skype meetings. It was also a little steep for the location of a university campus and lack of dining options for breakfast or dinner
Review 37:The location was amazing, and the room had everything I needed. The balcony and kitchen appliances were a huge plus.
Review 38:We had a vehicle didn't expect the extra cost. Do not recall anything about additional parking cost on website. It was not that bad. We could stay parked at the location for the day. Thus not having to pay additional parking.
Review 39:Liked the fact that this was a convenient location for the hospital visit. We will book again but will utilize the kitchen and save money. Very comfortable
Review 40:The campus is a bit secluded, and you must drive to more popular Vancouver sites.
Review 41:The UBC campus felt like our own during school holidays, with wonderful museums within walking distance. The nearby neighborhoods had nice restaurants and shopping.
Review 42:It took a while for the hotel front desk staff to show up at the counter when we needed service. Although it wasn't our first priority, a whirlpool or sauna for guest use would have been nice.
Review 43:The room was first rate and the front desk and cleaning staff were all very helpful, pleasant, and competent.
Review 44:Only complaint is with the sofa. Someone had abused it, the pleather covering was obviously damaged. It should be replaced since it ruins the look of the room.
Review 45:The suite was much bigger than I expected. The location was great for what we needed, which was close to the Thunderbird Sports Center. It was very quiet and peaceful (I don't know if we had any neighbors in the adjoining suites, we certainly did not hear any). It is not a posh 5 star hotel, but it is very comfortable. There are also plenty of buses that stop in the campus, so you don't have to drive downtown.
Review 46:Not a lot of amenities, as expected. Not much of a view. If you're not traveling to be at UBC, there's not much of a reason to stay there. Though it's certainly cheaper than downtown Vancouver.
Review 47:You can't ask for a better location when wanting to stay near UBC, as you're actually on campus. Also, it's a nice suite with good in-room kitchen facilities. Nice and clean.
Review 48:We have been staying here often over the past 6 years as our 3 children have all gone to UBC. The sofa's are now well past their best before dates and are in need of replacing.
Review 49:This is an excellent location to stay if you are visiting a student living on campus. It is great because they can come for a nice home cooked meal and just chill with mum.
Review 50:It was so easy to get around, we were attending our son's convocation. Facilities were really close for food and the bus stop was right across the street.
Review 51:check- in in a different building - parking was away from check -in and outside - nasty in BC rain!!
Review 52:layout was nice - open well equipped kitchen but needed paper towels for quick clean-up
Review 53:A little noise in late evening with windows open - but not a problem.
Review 54:Location to the wedding at the golf course Cleanliness Comfort of the King bed , the pullout not so much Watching the three raccoons on their night prowl and dumpster diving
Review 55:Ha ha maybe I'm just getting old but I found the signage for the checkin office hard to find. Once I located the first one it was easier. Expected more of a hotel look rather than the campus look.
Review 56:Awesome stay. Had a course at the UBC pool and it was great to be so close. Suite was awesome and the location ( area) had pretty much all I needed for food and incidentals.
Review 57:poor sound proofing-very noisy re overlooking UBC bus depot had to sign back into an unsecure visitor UBC internet every time I opened computer parking expensive considering lack of other facilities worn furniture in living room
Review 58:great bed and kitchenette perfect location on campus very spacious
Review 59:The reception was in another building, we had hard time to find the reception and the entrance door was close. There was not any sign to help finding the direction.
Review 60:Very convenient clean suit with kitchen facilities.
Review 61:Some other guests were quite loud in the hallway, and I could hear chairs scraping across the floor in the other rooms. So it's not that soundproof.
Review 62:Convenient location, since I was writing a test on campus early the next morning. The mattress is firm, which I prefer but others may not. I asked for a quiet room and the one they gave was fairly quiet, with just a little bit of noise from students outside the window. I would recommend it if you have things to do on campus.
Review 63:-been to UBC before and was disappointed to see how much litter was lining the streets
Review 64:spacious room, close to Cecil Green Park House where we were attending a wedding, eating places within walking distance
Review 65:WiFi was slow to none. Everytime it bottomed out (or you turned your device off) required a new logon.
Review 66:Great location, walking distance to everything. Bus loop across the street, also the Student Union & recreation centers.
Review 67:West coast suites are a great choice if you are going to UBC hospital because it is only 7 minute walk away. The bus loop is 2 minutes away, so very convenient if you choose not to drive, The unit was clean and bright. Check in was fast and friendly. Will use this facility again if needed.
Review 68:internet was a problem to stay connected. had to leave the windows open to help cool the room we had. No Air Conditioning so we heard lots of construction noise and late night party goers walking back to their rooms/dorms.
Review 69:close to where my medical appointment was.
Review 70:Wi-Fi kept booting me out and would have been nice to have had a secure site with a password as in some hotels as I needed to complete some sensitive work and I felt uncomfortable with the lack of security -also- lost bands so nothing would load for part of the time; had I not intended to complete some work, I would not have cared but as it was, that was the only frustrating thing.
Review 71:-greenery and nature outside window -quiet -decor -cleanliness
Review 72:We chose this location as a member of our family was having surgery at UBC hospital and it was and ideal location. Will definitely use it again for follow up.
Review 73:Too warm and room too close to bus traffic and noise to open windows. Hard to find way through campus in dark when unfamiliar with area. desk Staff a little slow at times.
Review 74:Very clean. Liked full suite and sliding door.
Review 75:The accommodation was a bit noisy with the bus station being across the road. The room service was okay but could have been for the cost of the room.
Review 76:The suite was comfortable and good if attending a meeting on campus but was not close to Vancouver centre. The campus is nice but for those wishing to visit the city it might be a bit far out.
Review 77:Located right across from noisy bus terminal and busy road. Paying for a five-star hotel with two-star conveniences. Service was virtually non-existent.
Review 78:Convenient to UBC school tour.
Review 79:Let's get serious, West Coast Suites are more like old dorm rooms from the 60's. This facility is starting to get tired. The couch in the room was very frayed and when I complained I was just given a "look." I asked for the email address of the manager and was given an incorrect address. Additionally, the bathroom had a smell of must. The beds are nice but our room was directly over the parking lot, which was noisy. The base rent, of over $200 per night, is expensive plus there is a 13% tax. Unfortunately, there are no other options, nearby.
Review 80:West Coast Suites are in a great location on the campus of UBC.
Review 81:-uncomfortable sofa bed; both the 20something who travelled with us last year and the grandmother who joined us this year slept poorly -large rips on sofa bed
Review 82:-convenient to our son's sporting event at UBC -well equipped kitchenette; perfect for breakfast & snacks -king bed very comfortable -updated!
Review 83:Not that easy to find without gps. Suggest providing a more detailed map &/or driving directions on website. A little far from downtown.
Review 84:having a kitchen was great. TV a little small compared to what is provided in hotels/suites of equal price.
Review 85:Full set of kitchen and all tools
Review 86:It was convienent to the Student Union Facility
Review 87:location to ubc
Review 88:Staff was a little on the "casual side". Room / unit was great and well equipped.
Review 89:convenient location easy to check in friendly/helpful staff
Review 90:hard to find where to check in. campus is very noisy on a friday night
Review 91:beautiful, spacious rooms and comfy beds.
Review 92:The bushes close to the building were a conern for safety reasons coming in at at night.
Review 93:Nice room clean comfortable
Review 94:No place to go out and eat supper without walking outside a ways.
Review 95:Go location for my appointment. Room was great.
Review 96:Poor locker and shower at athletic facilities
Review 97:Access to athletic facilities
Review 98:Parking was extra charge. For the price, it should have been included.
