Reviews for The Great George
Review 1:Great location, very friendly staff. Large place made of many old buildings makes for a lovely interesting hotel with lots of history. The staff walked us to our room to be sure we knew where it was located. Ample parking even for large vehicles. And of course, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies! (The continental breakfast was fabulous too, they even brought us waffles!) Wonderful hotel, would definitely stay again.
Review 2:'Upgraded' to a noisy street level room across from main building for the first night. Lots os excuses that didn't make sense from the young man at the front desk.
Review 3:Fixed the room issue the second night. Staff that day was awesome.
Review 4:The bed and pillows were not what I would call "hotel quality". Both too hard, which is unfortunate because everything else is perfect.
Review 5:Overall, beautiful place and convenient location.
Review 6:All staff were very professional and made us feel most welcome at The Great George. The atmosphere was relaxing and the perfect place to spend our anniversary.
Review 7:Arrived at Charlottetown at midnight from Boston NO taxis available so arrange your own transport, poor welcome to the town.
Review 8:Historic structure, down town, pretty setting, comfortable hotel, free wifi, complimentary tea and coffee always available
Review 9:Wifi very slow at times. It would be frustrating if you were trying to get work done. However, there is a computer hooked up to a printer on the main floor available to guests.
Review 10:Superior facility that is beautifully decorated. Beds are so comfy. Congenial staff make guests feel at home.
Review 11:Loved the historical aspect of the hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Great welcome and personal escort to our room. Recommendations by staff of restaurants and things to do. The suite was well appointed and very quiet. Breakfast and cookies were a nice touch. Appreciated the fitness center.
Review 12:Spacious room was a little disappointing in the quality of it's furnishings. Decent breakfast offerings were simply overwhelmed by the crush of morning guests. Ran out of coffee, food and nowhere to sit.
Review 13:Superb staff, perfect location, great concept with multiple heritage buildings making up the property.
Review 14:No complaints!!
Review 15:Location was excellent, staff friendly and helpful, complimentary ice water, chocolate chip cookies, and happy hour didn't hurt either! Nice to stay somewhere that has character...the Great George oozes it!
Review 16:Location Best comfortable bed Room so clean and comfortable Upgraded to suite by hotel without asking Staff soo very nice and helpful Professional Breakfast awesome. Lots of great food. Lobby is very nice with great furniture
Review 17:Location in a historic part of downtown. Beautiful suite in the Stable House. Close to water, shops. Great George staff took a negative at check in and completely turned it into a very lovely stay with them.
Review 18:The tub in the room had a leaky plug, so you couldn't take a bath in room 404. Otherwise, the stay was excellent.
Review 19:Fantastic location, breakfast, and quaint boutique hotel with a bed and breakfast feel. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Charlottetown!
Review 20:This is a very special hotel. Traditional style on the inside and a beautiful, colourful exterior. Daniel on Reception was brilliant throughout. Breakfast is a great experience in a nice area with comfortable chairs.
Review 21:Due to mobility issues, and general lack of walk in showers, safety bars would be highly recommended for the bathtub.
Review 22:The room was spacious and well appointed and had a very comfortable bed.
Review 23:The room was large and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was generous and had a nice variety.
Review 24:The beds were somewhat short, so not the best in comfort. Everything else made up for this though!
Review 25:Excellent hotel if you want a true PEI experience. The staff very friendly & helpful. The breakfast was excellent and commplimentary cookies, apples, beer and wine were great
Review 26:It took a long time for hot water in the shower. Admittedly we were on the 4th floor and I showered early in the morning, probably before any others. However, I felt guilty wasting water.
Review 27:Very comfortable and well appointed common areas for lounging and reading. Guest reception in the PM.
Review 28:While enjoying the luxury of one of the Great George's condo apartments, we were surprised to find one very small up-on-the-wall air-conditioning unit pouring its heart into cooling off an over-heated condo--and--alas, not up to the job because it didn't have the wind-power to spread its cool air into the huge bedroom we had chosen to use (there were two). A 1.30 am call to the 24-hour desk saved the night--almost instantly the night clerk appeared with a super strong fan (approx. 24x24 inches) with long, strong props to move the cool air into most corners of the apartment. Saved by the fan-made breeze! (As an encore, the clerk also solved the mystery of operating the video system so that we were able to watch the TV news.)
Review 29:Because the main building with an elevator was booked for a wedding party, we were given one of the hotel's luxurious condo apartments for two nights--usually held for visiting 'rock stars'--fancy stuff! Breakfast was excellent and classy like the condo apartment.
Review 30:Would be nice if they had a restaurant in house, though there are many in the area so it's not a problem.
Review 31:The staff amazing, very friendly and welcoming. We had one the their daily tours with Jacob. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very good at his job. The room was awesome, very unique. We had a great time in PEI and glad we chose to stay here. We plan to stay here again the next time we visit. Keep up the good work!
Review 32:The check-in staff, the lovely room, the warm cookies, complimentary coffee in lounge, 5-6pm happy hour (lovely choice of wine and beer), fantastic breakfast, all the extra touches --- very special stay.
Review 33:Breakfast is taken in the lobby/lounge. It is a limited, mainly cold, buffet and uncomfortable to eat with no formal tables and chairs.
Review 34:Central location. Large room. Welcoming staff. Interesting tour of historic portfolio of buildings that make up the hotel.
Review 35:the pillows on the bed - they were tired and lumpy.
Review 36:Beautiful place, loved the history and the attention to detail... cookies, tea and fruit in the lobby. The great lobby!
Review 37:The location is a bit negative because our room was on the front street (beautiful), but also turned out to be the walking path for the late night "pub customers" from the area. The loud talking of passersby kept me awake and was extremely annoying.
Review 38:The proximity to restaurants was excellent. Lots of great places nearby. Enjoyed the happy hour and ambience of the lobby area. ALL of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 39:In this day, age and economy we got value for the money, but one would always hope the rates could be lower. Not just at the Inn, but in all like establishments!
Review 40:Went to the Lebanese Feast and to the Inn for the night. It was just what we hoped for. Totally enjoyed our day. Totally enjoyed our night at the Inn.
Review 41:Bathroom was a bit small.
Review 42:Of all the places we stayed on a recent trip to Canada, this was our favorite. The decor throughout the hotel was lovely. The lobby was inviting with many comfortable sitting areas, a fireplace, beverages and cookies available throughout the day as well as a wine hour in the late afternoon. The staff was very helpful in planning our itinerary in Charlottetown. Delicious breakfast buffet.
Review 43:Breakfast buffet is a little limited but did not spoil in any way our overall stay. Wonderful place
Review 44:We loved our suite, we stayed in Carroll House, it was in fact the lower floor of the house. Tasteful decor, amazing double spa bath. Kept a feeling of the history. We liked the 5.00 wine hour, a nice touch. Location is perfect for bars & restaurants. This is a treasure of a hotel.
Review 45:No bar and dinning rooms
Review 46:I was impressed with the courteous service at the front desk with help, travel hints and literature. Also breakfast was fabulous.
Review 47:No complaints we found everything exceptional and would recommend this hotel to others visiting the area.
Review 48:Fabulous place to stay, nothing bad to say. Staff very friendly & helpful. Great location walking distance to pretty much everything. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty for all guests, cookies at front desk freshly baked hourly it seemed. Parking is free at rear of hotel. Beds the most comfortable I have slept in on this trip. Weekday happy hour was a pleasant bonus after long drive.
Review 49:Possible sighting of mouse under bedside table
Review 50:We enjoyed meeting a couple from Nova Scotia during the Happy Hour. It was fun to talk to other travellers.
Review 51:The rooms need more lights.
Review 52:The staff was very nice about me tearing the shower curtain when I fell in the shower. The location was wonderful with restaurants very nearby.
Review 53:I have travelled extensively in North America and Europe and stayed in a lot of hotels. The Great George is possibly the best hotel I have stayed in. It is beautiful and service was outstanding. If you are in Charlottetown you MUST stay here.
Review 54:Small things like, having some bottled water in the room that did not have a price tag on them. The beds were nice and luxurious but maybe a bit too soft...but overall very minor.
Review 55:I really enjoyed the location and ease having all the sites, sounds smells and eateries around us...can not be beat!,, The staff was great, bagged lunches and the fresh baked cookies were a nice bonus. The included breakfast was a nice bonus. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Free drinks during their 5-6 happy hour..what's not to like there;)
