Reviews for Burg-Hotel Cochem

Review 1:Service was a bit unfriendly. Old fashioned rooms. Breakfast was funny. We couldn"t sit in the bigger table.. food ran out quite quickly and no refilling.

Review 2:Location was good. Fridge / minibar in the room.

Review 3:The lady at the front desk was obviously annoyed to have to work and any question was met with a grimace. We felt like we were ruining her day by staying at her hotel. No AC or fan was available for the hot stuffy tiny rooms. Luckily, the wine festival and incredible fireworks made up for the hotel.

Review 4:The hotel location was good.

Review 5:We arrived in the middle of the town carnival but we had reserved private parking so we were not worried. Much to our dismay, however, we were told there was no private parking and we had to take our chances in an overcrowded town. The receptionist was surly and unhelpful in a reception area completely cluttered with "historical" artefacts of no apparent significance.. Although we had booked a double bed the room contained 2 single beds and was roughly 11'x10'. The bathroom was no more that a cupboard and when you bent over the small washbasin the door had to be open! There was no plug in the basin and although the website showed there was a mini-bar and telephone in the room, neither was present. The magnificent firework display somewhat ameliorated what was a deeply disappointing overnight stop.

Review 6:The hotel is on the bank of the river Mosel and convenient to the tourist area of the town.

Review 7:The isolation of the room is very bad, we could hear every single word from people who talking on the passage. So, we had a very bad sleep. The toilet is fulfilled with heavy smell of urine.

Review 8:We had a half-board package. The dinner was very good. Location is proper for hand carry luggage.

Review 9:Not very friendly staff. Rooms are very small and need updating. If you don't like spiders and bugs don't get a balcony room because there are webs and spiders everywhere on the balcony that need to be gotten rid of. No screens either...The lobby could use a de-cluttering, there is way too much stuff!!!

Review 10:Location was great. We had a balcony room with a beautiful view of the river. Breakfast was pretty good

Review 11:Rooms are on the small side. The hotel lacks on site parking - you can park in front of the hotel to unload (assuming no one else has taken one of the few spaces), but would normally then have to park several blocks away. We were lucky that spaces opened up on the street near the hotel just at the right time.

Review 12:From our room's balcony in the Burg Hotel, we had a wonderful view over the Mosel river, one of the highlights of our stay in Cochem (not all rooms have river views, though - ask if coming at a busy time). The hotel restaurant, also with a terrace over the river, provided one of the best dinners of our trip. The hotel also has a small indoor pool which is free, though the sauna is not.

Review 13:Parking was a problem. Half a kilometer to over-night car park. Poor wifi. Bathroom probably the smallest I've seen in a hotel. No bigger then a ferry's! Noisy lift next to bedroom. No mini bar, no smoke alarm, no exit route and no telephone in bedroom. Lack of sockets. Cheap furniture (only a wardrobe)

Review 14:Great location. Evening meal. Staff friendly & helpful. A lot of character in the public rooms.

Review 15:The warning sign should have been that you are made to pay on arrival - before being given the keys or shown the room. The first piece of advice would be to see the room before you hand over your payment. After going ahead anyway, we found our room tucked away up on the 2nd floor. On first glance it was very disappointing; small, cramped and full of dark dated old furniture which presumably hadn't been updated for many many years. The bed was not even in a proper frame, just something resembling a dated old sofa bed. We were further shocked at the smell of urine from the bathroom and went to reception to complain. Here we were told by the very rude/unaccomodating lady owner that there were no other rooms available and if we didn't like it to hand back our key. This was unbelievable. Eventually she offered to send a cleaner which luckily for us sorted out the problem. Since there was no availability elsewhere on that weekend (and we had booked an additional room for a family member), we did not have the option to leave the hotel (or change rooms since she claimed she was full), otherwise we for sure would have left already at that very point. Moving to breakfast, again a huge disappointment for the rate you pay here. When we arrived to the dining room, it was full of either taken tables or vacated tables that hadn't been cleaned up and re-laid. Once we finally sat down, the organisation was terrible. Only one lady was trying her best to serve hot drinks, but food was running out, glasses weren't available and in general all that was on offer was a cold buffet of Brotchen and cheese/ham slices. Not good enough for a hotel charging what it does - I would call this place rather a glorified hostel which pretends to be something it is not and profits hugely from their unfortunate and unsuspecting guests. Please avoid if you can.

Review 16:Excellent position facing the river on the main promenade. Within very short walking distance to shops and town centre. No parking but only a 10 minute walk along to river to the railway station where they charge just 2 eur/day. Rooms were very dark so not awoken too early.

Review 17:You will not find out room in the pictures, I think they gave us the broom cabinet, bathroom was very old, as the minibar???, with wine, 1 cola and 1 water, was not refilled, and a smal bottle of cola cost 4 euro, and the tele of 1975, at 9.30 on sunday breakfast was out of bread, on monday 9.30 breakfast was out of breadfilling, except jam & honey, staf was not very friendly, everything seemed to take a lot of effort, disappointing for this money

Review 18:The location was good

Review 19:Small bathroom - 6feet x 2feet, grumpy & un-helpful staff, no parking available, no coffee or drinks available at 9.30 in the evening on a Saturday night.

Review 20:On the river front.

Review 21:the bed was very old and beautiful but very noisy when turning over in the night, didnt get offered any cooked food for breakfast only knew they did it when we saw others having cooked food on the last day

Review 22:a beautiful old hotel on the river front very helpful and friendly staff, lovely old features in the rooms, and around the hotel, quite a good selection of continental breakfast,

Review 23:The only negative feature is access to the upper floors by a tiny lift, and in our case it only goes to the 5th floor so we have to walk up a staircase to the 6th floor with all our baggage.

Review 24:The receptionist is so kind about car parking and comes outside with me to explain where to put the car, right next to the hotel on the front, holding up the traffic while I manoeuver it into place, and then showing me where to get a parking ticket at a very modest price. We dined in the terrace restaurant overlooking the Mosel and had an excellent meal at a reasonable price and the breakfast was also excellent.

Review 25:Not very accommodating, grumpy people, unexpected charge for wifi that only one person could use at a time and not very good signal, check out supposed to be 12 they pushed us out by 11 and even barged into room 10:50. No parking, had to park a mile away and walk!

Review 26:Location

Review 27:Small bathroom, hallway noise.

Review 28:Good location overlooking the river.

Review 29:No parking nearby, unfriendly staff,no outlook from our room as indicated by reviews

Review 30:New bathroom

Review 31:No air conditioning.

Review 32:Great location with lots of character. Had elevator which was a welcome sight. Quite and very good breakfast

Review 33:Grumpy staff, non-English speaking staff, Extreme small bathrooms/toilets, small bedrooms,

Review 34:Great location, good breakfast

Review 35:No car parking

Review 36:Toilets were so small, even one person couldn't stand comfortably in front of the mirror. Rooms were too cramped.

Review 37:Location!

Review 38:Small troubles with WiFi - and extra charge of 1 euro for access

Review 39:Location and breakfast

Review 40:Staff were excellent, despite language barriers.

Review 41:The rooms are loud and noisy! The food pour quality. Total a desaster, we want to our friends Cochem . We left after 1 day and paid 2 nights, We are traveling frequently but this hotel is a nightmare!! We asked for differnt rooms but not possible they said! We had room 45 and 75! Have a Look and you would not offer this room to nobody

Review 42:The walls were not sound proofed, you could hear people talking in their rooms down the hall. The door to the room rattled each time someone a floor below closed their door. There was a gap under the door which let the smell of smoke enter the room. The bed was not comfortable at all.

Review 43:Location to everything we wanted to see was great.

Review 44:We visited in April 2014 (during Easter). We had booked a basic room for EUR 100, however that room was, naturally, basic and the view from the window was quite depressive. So we wanted to change to a room with Moselle River view, however we were told it cost EUR 140. And when we wanted to book a very nicely designed room, we were told it cost EUR 150. We agreed and paid EUR 150 and our room was quite nice, however, when checking out, we were asked to pay EUR 160. Now, 10 euros is not a big deal however I did not like the feeling of getting ripped, therefore insisted on paying EUR 150, which they finally accepted. At this stage it was a problem that the lady at the reception did not speak English language at all, and kind of acted as if we were trying to rip her of 10 euros. Fortunately there were other guests at the reception area who helped and translated us to eachother. Also the breakfast was also difficult to manage, since everything lies at different places around the room. Again, with the language barrier it was even difficult to ask for a fork and I had to imitate a fork with my fingers etc. Briefly speaking, breakfast was not a smooth experience. Having said these, they were kind enough to keep our luggage after we checked out. I believe we could have understood eachother better if language was not a problem. I would recommend this hotel, if you don't mind paying 5* hotel prices for a basic service, due to the nice rooms and excellent location.

Review 45:The hotel is on the Moselle River promenade, which is quite nice. Approximately 200 metres from Cochem centre, with many pubs and restaurants around, therefore location is very good. Hotel entrance and breakfast/dining area design is authentic and nice. Our room was beautiful, with great view over the Moselle River.

Review 46:There is no English spoken. Used a third party on the phone at check-in. Parking is a 10 minute walk located in a parking garage and costs 8 Euro. Do not take a large bag because it is cobblestone streets and big crowds of tourists, plus there is no room for a large bag in the room. The room is very small and we had a larger room overlooking the river and railroad tracks.

Review 47:Very unfriendly service people and receptionist. Very unflexible. Hotelroom too small and the 'bathroom' is not worth to be called so

Review 48:The location of the hotel; nice view around Cochem and close tothe river.

Review 49:The language is a problem. The reception does not understand or talk a word of english! There is no air-con in the rooms - can be very warm at night.

Review 50:Perfect location. Beautiful town. Near boat departures, near shopping, station etc.

Review 51:Genuine old fashioned charm and hospitality. Wonderful situation. A veryindividual hotel not often found these days. The front rooms directlyoverlooking the Mosel are magic.

Review 52:The only stairs to rooms is passing through the restaurant and kitchen, so you conserve all the smells of kitchen.

Review 53:It has a restaurant full of very old (maybe antic) swords and knight staff, you feel like living in old ages. You can feel the same in rooms because I guess they haven't changed the stuff in the rooms since it was built.

Review 54:No/poor wifi.

Review 55:Placed on the main street

Review 56:Bathroom was so small need door open to bend over the sink.

Review 57:Friendly receptionist and good location overlooking the river.

Review 58:Loud from the street.

Review 59:Centraly located in Cochem. Excellent view on the river.

Review 60:Too much street noise, some noisy guests in the stairs at night

Review 61:Location, service, facilities, cleanliness

Review 62:Rooms are basic and expensive.

Review 63:Location, view and food.

The Fine Print

Use of the sauna costs EUR 15 per person.
