Reviews for The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
Review 1:I liked everything
Review 2:Staff were very helpful with directions and offered a map. They also gave a good dissertation of what was available within the hotel.
Review 3:A room with loud drinkers on our floor. Staff was slow to deal with them and did not follow through. Noise continued into the night.
Review 4:Room pleasant and clean. Food very good.
Review 5:No "bad" experiences - I find the parking rates way too high, same with the restaurant.
Review 6:the hotel is well appointed - very well kept. The staff work hard to ensure customer comfort.
Review 7:Due to construction on hotel exterior window was blocked- no view. Construction noise started at 7:00am, We were not advised of this when booking room.
Review 8:Great location
Review 9:Very friendly and welcoming staff. Throughout my stay, the staff showed a very high level of attentiveness and we're always ready to help in any way they could.
Review 10:Ordered at reception the night before a boxed room service breakfast at 6.30am prior to an early bus trip - which never arrived. On enquiry - no one knew anything about it.
Review 11:Good location. Concierge desk extremely helpful and different ladies on desk every day were very friendly and took the time to do anything asked of them. Rooms large and light. Beds & pillows very comfortable.
Review 12:Internet was way too expensive. bathroom needs an update. considering the high room rate-- wifi should be either free or priced more fairly.
Review 13:Just about everything!
Review 14:Paying full price for a room that had that window covered for renovations outside was ridiculous. Dusty window coverings. The house cleaner was knocking on my door at nine in the morning even with the do not disturb sign on the door handle. She then proceeded to cleaning the room next door noisily until ten. Figure it out.
Review 15:I didn't like that the hotel won't give loyalty program points for a reservation made on Booking.com … I chose the brand for the points!
Review 16:Hotel is a short walk to the waterfront and Canada Place, as well as most other downtown attractions.
Review 17:Two of the three nights there were noisy parties with thumping bass music. Housekeeping came in at 8.35 am ame we could hear vacuuming in the hall and next door room early in the morning. Not relaxing. No free wifi.
Review 18:Location is very good.
Review 19:Poor room location. 1 window looked out at the roof and had a high wall blocking any view. The other window had a narrow view between higher buildings.
Review 20:Staff was wonderful, location was quite convenient
Review 21:Nothing!
Review 22:The highly professional and sincere welcome and service from all the staff was exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We were made to feel special.
Review 23:This is an older hotel, be prepared for some of the amenities to be dated though it adds to the over all charm.
Review 24:The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is the old money Fairmont, as such it retains the grace of that time most apparent in its services. I've stayed at the newest Fairmont (Pacific Rim) and by far, from check out to cleaning, the Hotel Vancouver has better personnel.
Review 25:Wifi didn't work and was an additional charge, when paying over $300for a room wifi shouldn't be extra.
Review 26:Beautiful hotel, central location, parking is difficult since youcan't make a left turn in vancouver between 9 am and 7 pm......
Review 27:The rooms are in desperate need of a renovation. Our shower was not clean (there was toothpaste on the tile near the shower head). The carpet was stained and dirty. The toilet was loud. Any time anyone in the nearby rooms turned on the shower or flushed the toilet it could be heard throughout the floor. Was not a $400+ per night experience.
Review 28:Customer service was top notch. Lobby and bar area were beautiful.
Review 29:Obscene prices for wine and Perrier at the bar! New restaurant format not welcoming and relaxing. Preferred the lounge of the past. Empty, fancy shops. Afraid to enter! Generally, sad environment.
Review 30:Clean, quiet room. Central location.
Review 31:Construction Quality of amenities poor quality pull out couch (felt like sleeping on wires) Very expensive
Review 32:Location Friendly staff Concierge desk staff excellent proximity to Avis Ease of getting a taxi Main bed was comfortable
Review 33:I was expecting more for $500 per night. Room was small, staff only delivered 3 towels a day for a family of 4 on the reservation. No mirrors in the room (only in bathroom and back of bathroom door with no outlet nearby) making it difficult for several people to get ready at the same time. Housekeeping turned off AC during the day so room was hot upon arriving back each day. Had to join traveler's club to get free WiFi.
Review 34:The location was right in downtown Vancouver so we could walk to many of our desired destinations. Room service was pricey but tasty.
Review 35:i understand that this is an old hotel, but they need to have the bathrooms spotless clean. We were moved to a different and better room but honestly did not expect the quality of the bathroom.
Review 36:customer service was excellent! They make sure that you are fully satisfied! After a day of touring we were referring our suite as home it was so nice! Hats off Faimont!
Review 37:There was nothing we did not like.
Review 38:We stayed on the 9th floor - Preferred and the concierges there were extremely attentive to your individual needs, helped plan daily activities and made reservations for us. Breakfast and High Tea were terrific. The room was phenomenal in every way. Building historic and had classy character.
Review 39:Dirty disgusting elevators. Made me feel like I needed a tetanus injection. The hotel is not clean and looks tacky with the brass, purple furnishings and chandeliers. Also, the location is somewhat dicey at night but, you get what you pay for.
Review 40:Front desk staff were friendly and efficient. Bathrobes in room and decent towels.
Review 41:Bathroom had poor venting so shower steam would fog mirrors for long periods. Minor inconvenience considering the rest of the hotel service is great.
Review 42:Hotel provides complementary bicycles that are great to tour Stanley park.
Review 43:See above
Review 44:Your agent neglected the spelling of my booking name and ended up waiting for about half and hour to fix this . He / she also flipped my last and first name the other way around . The same problem also happened when we book our second hotel . Not fun at all !
Review 45:This is a full pet friendly hotel so any room could have had a pet in it- we were assured it gets cleaned well however my room mate has asthma so that wasn't helpful
Review 46:It is not fair to pay wi-fi after paying a lot of money for a room that is really old and need to get maintenance. I will never go back there!
Review 47:The only good thing of this Fairmont are the stores like gucci and louis vuitton
Review 48:The room was old, outdated and high priced. The hotel is under major construction so most of the facilities are off limits. No offer of an economic accommodation for the mess and loss of features.
Review 49:The location of this Fairmont is excellent. We walked wherever we went.
Review 50:if you're not over 50 and don't go to bed before 10pm don't stay at this prude hotel. every time i have stayed at a fairmont there have been staff knocking at my door complaining about noise. talking normally and music at a ridiculously low level, still complaints! paper thin walls and dated boring rooms. if you're a prude british couple that don't talk much and go to bed early than i would recommend this hotel.
Review 51:leaving the hotel
Review 52:The dining experience was 2nd rate. The entire dining area needs a serious makeover.
Review 53:The old fashioned quality of the interior - not so sure about the new renovations.
Review 54:We stayed in the Gold level rooms and there was not enough room in the lounge in the morning for the guests on that floor. Unless you get up very early the breakfast in the lounge is chaotic. Housekeeping starts knocking on your door between 9:00 and 9:30 to see if you are out of your room even though they have a bottom to press when you are ready to have your room made up.
Review 55:Seemed like an off time. It was overly difficult for them to resolve an error with the reservation. Lobby undergoing a remodel. Pool was out of commission.
Review 56:Nice location. Friendly concierge. Decent room.
Review 57:Pool was under construction, it happens.
Review 58:Location is central to downtown and old world style of décor is very classy. Staff is friendly and always willing to help.
Review 59:The building was under renovation..the room need sone updating...really old looking...bed was comfortable, restaurant need to be renovated furniture were old...for an over all review...it needs a serious renovation.
Review 60:I like the location and staff...
Review 61:Too expensive: no free wi-fi (whaat??) and not always consistent; little things bothered me: for instance, they said they would leave a second receipt under my door before I left but no one did, or I found hair after room cleaning, or mugs slightly misplaced ... again, just little things that did not affect my comfort, but that I didn't expect in such a luxurious place. Hot tub/pool closed for renovations ... Sad but not their fault (even though they should advertise it on the website).
Review 62:The room is very comfortable (but bed too soft for me); hotel is quiet and luxurious; location is GREAT!; staff is very very very gracious and willing to go out of their way to help; staff very efficient too; beautiful hotel.
Review 63:Pool and lobby was under renovation so made it a bit of a struggle to navigate. We also had to take the kids to the YMCA to go to the pool and it wasn't a great pool for kids under 5.
Review 64:Great location and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.
Review 65:Pricey Parking Old Rooms The Picture of the Room on the Website did not look at all like the Room I Paid For. Food in the Rooftop Restaurant was Average
Review 66:Location
Review 67:The hotel is going through a major upgrade. We were aware of this and it did not detract from our stay. The renovation is being managed well for guests.
Review 68:The bed we slept in was one of the most comfortable we have ever had. The hotel has a great history and is so well located to do anything you want in Vancouver. The Christmas parade passed the door.
Review 69:Was surprised that the valet staff packed the SUV so poorly.
Review 70:Loved the friendly personal attentiveness of the staff. Dog food served on a silver platter I am not kidding! Location is perfect - no need to drive any where - once there you can walk to the best venues, restaurants, & shops - right next door to the Vancouver Art Museum. Ocean restaurant - wow! Asian food - Yes Yes Yes!
Review 71:Our single use coffee maker blew up almost on me made a mess all over the table and floor and the housekeeping came and took it away but there was no apology,
Review 72:Everything was beautifully decorated, clean and modern
Review 73:We checked in the day after my birthday as going to a concert for my birthday. The lady at the front desk asked why we were in town an we said we were going to a concert for my birthday which was the day before. When we arrived back in our room after the show I was pleasantly surprised to find a chocolate cake and a birthday card addressed to me wishing me a happy birthday. It was nice awesome that the young girl at the front desk took the time to make that happen. Exceptional.
Review 74:The rooms were very nice and luxurious. Everything from valet parking, check in and check out were very smooth. The staff were all very excellent an attentive.
Review 75:Our booking wasn't in their system (something lost in translation between booking.com and them. But they sorted it quickly and were apologetic. Hallways kind of smell a bit like a charity shop or your grandmas closet but maybe its just because the building is so old..?
Review 76:Only had one night here before we flew home. Since it was our honeymoon they upgraded our room and sent up a delicious dessert. They also let us have a late check out. Building is beautiful, well located. Staff were all friendly and efficient.
Review 77:Horrible 15th floor temporary-looking space was uncomfortably cool and ugly. Over-priced prime rib was cold when delivered. Poor acoustics (neighbours could be heard through walls).Reception counter on main floor looks like it belongs in a Motel 8 - hope thats temporary?
Review 78:Bed was comfortable but rooms are getting dated. Poor acoustics (neighbours could be heard through walls).
Review 79:Air too hot and noise outside. Not enough light in room. Pool was out of action.
Review 80:Ability to open windows to get air! Concierge assistance and manner of staff excellent.
Review 81:Proress has it's price....and the construction going on at the hotel didn't help things. The bathroom was tiny, and the grout around the tub needed redoing. The pool was under construction. They offered an alternative at another location, but it didn't sound very inviting to swim at the YMCA down the street.
Review 82:The location is supurb! Centre of the hub of downtown Vancouver. The hotel was very clean and the room, although small, was spotless. The valet was courteous, and the front desk personel were helpful and friendly. It was my goal to stay at all the Faimonts. Next is San Francsico....How do you think you'll match up Vancouver?
Review 83:I didn't like the fact that I was only there 4 days - 4 weeks would have been perfect!
Review 84:Everything was perfect as I knew it would be - the Fairmont is an absolute icon where nothing is too much trouble, the whole ambience is elegant, comfortable and beautiful - right down to Mavis and Beau, the Fairmont's gorgeous Golden Labs at the Concierge's desk! I visit them every time I am in Vancouver!
Review 85:I could inky stay the one night . If I had the chance I would have stayed longer
Review 86:The comfort of the bed was amazing , the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in
Review 87:While not super modern and under renovation at the time I was there, the obvious advantage is in its location for a business traveler. Staff anticipate all your needs and it also was a great place to recover if one is on the constant move.
Review 88:The size of the bathroom was small in comparison to the rest of the suite, but it had everything with wonderful toiletries. When we arrived home a few days later there was a debit on my credit card statement (AUD700) for the accommodation, which had been settled in USD cash, some of the last foreign currency we had, so thought may as well use it. One would have thought that the credit card swipe would have been cancelled before we left the building. Admittedly one email and it was removed within 48+ hours, although was promised less. Had this been at the start of our trip, it may not have been picked up so soon. Did not feel that this is the way to win business.
Review 89:We loved the location and the service admittedly Gold Club. This was all that was available at short notice, but certainly no regrets. A very comfortable retreat in a lovely city. Loved the dog at main reception. Adds a homely touch. Lots of room in our upgraded suite, would have loved more time to take full advantage. Excellent size walk in closet. Great range of breakfast choices in the club lounge. Afternoon tea was well received after our delayed travels from the Arctic via Edmonton.
Review 90:The hotel is currently undergoing a face lift which is needed as it is currently a little tired. The lounge bar is currently at the roof top and is nowhere as good as the previous in the lobby. To be fair the rennovations are due to complete November 2014 when I'm sure all will be returned to its excellent standard. Overall I still would give it 4*
Review 91:Excellent position at centre downtown. Very helpful concierge. Very good room with comfortable large bed.
Review 92:No transport from airport, we were told the hotel had a bus from airport, our fault for not double checking. The sky train was very good though and station not too far from hotel when we were told about it.
Review 93:The desk staff were very helpful with all questions asked and very quick with any booking enquiries. All the staff greeted you with a smile. Rooms even had umbrellas for the occasional down pour. The hotel was on the doorstep of shops and within walking distance of most tourist attractions.
Review 94:Helpful staff provided great recommendations for area activities and restaurants. Clean, quiet rooms, good breakfast on the gold floor. Location was very good.
Review 95:Slow check-in Pool was not open Confusing ground floor layout with no signage
Review 96:Location Old world feel/design Room service food was good quality
Review 97:This experience was EXACTLY what Booking.com's advertising tries to convince you won't happen when you book through this site. I thought we were getting a great value on a reliable brand, but it ended up being such a headache!! The parking was nearly impossible to get to as so many streets in the area have restricted turning during the day/summer. It would have been so nice to have a note about this included in the reservation information. Once the GPS got us to the hotel it was close to 20 minutes to actually get to the front desk (note: W. Georgia is the main address, but if we had known to put in the side street where you actually enter it would have been SO much easier). When we checked in, we were given a Queen room even though we had booked a "Deluxe King." We were told that was just a request, not an actual reservation, but no worries because there was a King available. Why they didn't look at the request and give us the king from the start is totally unclear. No one offered to help move the bags between rooms. The King room was fine, but the furnishings, etc. felt very rundown. Definitely not what I would call 4 stars (at least in 2014). After a long day of traveling and moving our suitcases to 2 different rooms, we just wanted a shower, but there was no hot water. When we called down to the front desk, they sent up engineering. After testing the faucets, he (very nicely) explained that at least 3 other rooms had called to say there was no hot water and that we would have to wait a few hours! Maybe they thought we didn't know which tap was the hot water? Why they didn't just apologize when we called and explain it was a boiler issue is, again, totally unclear. Ready to see the city, we asked the concierge for a local spot to get a drink and he (very enthusiastically) directed us to what turned out to be the equivalent of a strip mall on the water (totally generic Irish pub that had been built about 8 months ago).
Review 98:The location is excellent. We were able to walk to lots of fun things to do. Everyone at the hotel was super friendly.
Review 99:construction going on in hotel. rooms with no view, window frosted same $$$$ hautey staff customer fault for rooms not being ready: requesting a 2 bed queen instead of a king. internet charges
Review 100:Location of the hotel is excellent for shopping in Robson areas and restaurants outside the hotel.
Review 101:No lobby. Was under remodeling construction.
Review 102:Elegant & classy. Eat the best food. Don't watch your diet. Walkeverywhere. Forget about renting a car or even taking a taxi.
Review 103:We were a little taken back by a $10 bottle of Evian water and by a $5 chocolate bar and $5 worth of Pringles potato chips. In our naiveté, we assumed they were complimentary. We were warned about the mini-bar, but no one said anything about the water and the chocolate. We felt a little taken advantage of. Thank god we didn't open the wine.
Review 104:We like the city view. We liked the staff. We liked the sense of luxury. We liked the rooftop restaurant.
Review 105:We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Hotel Vancouver. The staff, the ambience, the food , the luxury and the location all make this a place we will return to again and again. Thank you for making our vacation so special,
Review 106:Air conditioning was either very cold or very hot or not on at all. But not a huge problem as we just slept with the sheets off.
Review 107:All staff were very friendly and helpful. Had more to offer on their drinks menu, especially for non drinkers. Beds very comfortable. Wifi free if you are a member of Fairmont, which is free online. Very fast Internet. Concierge very helpful to every one and took time with anyone who had questions, as did all the staff we had questions to.
Review 108:Parking... Booking said parking was $30 a day... it was actually $50 a day after tax. Not a nice surprise.
Review 109:Fantastic hotel in the middle of everything in Vancouver. Built in 1939 it is one of the oldest and nicest hotels in the city.
Review 110:Nowhere to sit in the lobby area. The only lounge was on the top floor. Breakfast choice limited and not good value in my opinion.
Review 111:Good location, were able to walk to all the main tourist sights including Stanley Park. Good sized, quiet room with comfortable beds.
Review 112:Excellent assistance from the concierge staff. Room well appointed. Location within walking distance to major attractions and restaurants. Look forward to returning.
Review 113:My room, the bathroom in particular was dated for the price paid
Review 114:Amazing downtown location. Very friendly and helpful staff
Review 115:Everything
Review 116:The Mallard Lounge & Bedroom
Review 117:Hotel room was dingy and dirty and smelled. Too expensive for what it was. And everything was an extra charge.
Review 118:The location was perfect for our needs
Review 119:Signs of wear eg bath surface was lifting
Review 120:Concierge was extremely helpful and also fun
Review 121:extra cost of wifi
Review 122:comfort and hotel dog for walking
Review 123:first man who brought my in-room dining cart took forever to display everything. Unnecessary.
Review 124:Big room, comfortable bed!
Review 125:Automated way of billing for wine, water, chips, bars
Review 126:Staff
Review 127:Noisy next room
Review 128:Ambiance
Review 129:Rooms are small and dated.
Review 130:The staff make the stay excellent.
Review 131:the bed is too soft ,the bathroom is too small, the pool water is not clean enough
Review 132:the staff is very nice and helpful, the location is great
Review 133:noise level in room; old bathroom fixtures.
Review 134:Staff were very friendly and guest conscious. Easy access to our car by hotel valet service
