Reviews for Drawbridge Inn & Suites Sarnia
Review 1:was a bit disappointed with room, bed was in poor shape, very ratty, rust stains in tub, broken drawer for clothes, broken chair, iron marks on rug, dirty lamps and window sill, also was quoted $71.00 a night paid $79 and $99 not sure I stay there again.
Review 2:staff was great, breakfeast was good, nice pool, great location, comfy bed, smoking room was a great asset,
Review 3:The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet though it is an older hotel so the decor is dated. The staff were super nice. The pool is kept at a warm temperature for the kids to play around in. The water slide is not always available though so dial down the kids expectations. Breakfast was good, waffle maker kept the kids happy, oatmeal and cereal for adults….okay we had some waffles too. Good value for the money.
Review 4:Breakfast hours should be extended to 10 am from current 9am (though staff encouraged me to take my time and I remained working in the breakfast room until 10 am anyway).
Review 5:I love the Drawbridge Inn! So much more interesting than a newer cookie cutter motel. Great character. Great location. Walking distance to many Sarnia sights including Art Gallery of Sarnia, the Lawrence House, the Sarnia Public Library, downtown shops, parks and the waterfront. Great waterfront. Super pool and fitness center (a real gym!).
Review 6:the parking
Review 7:I liked the character of the older building. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. I was impressed with the cleaniness of the breakfast room. I would stay here again.
Review 8:My GPS unit doesn't work in Canada and I asked the front desk clerk for directions to a nearby street. She gave me vague directions and I ended getting lost at night in a snow storm. The next day I noticed that they have a stack of free city maps right there on the counter! I wish she had given me a map instead of her lousy directions. Later that night I realized my cellphone does not work in Canada. I was unable to connect to their free w-fi either. I called the front desk to ask about dialing out to make a local call. The clerk didn't mentioned that I would be charged an additional $8 amenity fee. That was a shock upon checking out of the hotel. Also, I was hit with a $2.50 booking fee.
Review 9:After driving through a snow storm, I was happy to arrive at the hotel. I was able to park my car in their covered parking lot. I think they have 4 or 5 covered parking spots. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Especially happy to have satellite tv and watch ESPN. Unfortunately the channel selector button was not working on the remote. Other than that, I found my room to be warm, clean and secure.
Review 10:A bit dated and the breakfast isn't great... but it is free so better than nothing :)
Review 11:The staff is very friendly. I love the heated floors in the bathroom. Rooms are clean but a bit dated. The pool is awesome especially for kids. We have stayed here many times and it is worth it if you can get a deal on the price.
Review 12:My only complaint is having to pay twice. The first time on arrival you pay an inflated price; a second time on departure when the hotel is happy you haven't trashed the rooms.
Review 13:Nice hotel near the centre of Sarnia. Recommended.
Review 14:I loved my stay at the Drawbridge. I used to stay there quite often before I retired from the Coast Guard. This was the first time I stayed in the room with a King Bed. I will definitely be back! And staying in the room with a King Bed.
Review 15:The front desk was very helpful in locating activities to do. They were always responsive to our needs. The pool was warm; our room was spacious and clean; bathroom floors were heated!!
Review 16:poor entrance. hallway run down look. poor breakfast offerings. maintenance needed in room
Review 17:comfy beds. outside tudor look. brick interior in our part. wishing well
Review 18:Place was very run down, although from the street it looked good. Needs complete renovation and upgraded facilities. There were signs apologizing for the mess caused by renovations but there were no signs of active renovation.
Review 19:Excellent location right near the waterfront and on a Main Street. Very accessable
Review 20:People were partying upstairs and across from me and woke my baby 4 times.
Review 21:Everyone who worked there was friendly and did what they could to make sure our stay was good.
Review 22:We went while the hotel was half under construction; our room was very dated and our TV didn't work properly. Access to various parts of the hotel was blocked off as they were being renovated.
Review 23:The staff was very pleasant, even when they were unable to resolve our issues they were respectful and friendly.
Review 24:It is very dated and looks like it needs a face lift. Some paint, new carpets and updated furniture would be an asset.
Review 25:Comfortable and the price was a real asset. Breakfast was the norm for any continental. The staff were very engaging and helpful.
Review 26:moldy smell in the room, very old carpet, the bedding didn't appear to fit the beds as the mattress was exposed by the morning, one of the two bathroom sinks was covered with think silicone to patch up old scratches and Finally unsure if the bathroom sink area was even cleaned as there were two used bars of soap still sitting on the counter top.
Review 27:location was good, but...
Review 28:We stayed on a Sunday night so it was really quiet. The bed was firm but not too firm. I read other reviews that said the hotel was showing its age but we thought it exceeded expectations and the price was good.
Review 29:We went to the pool all weekend and even on monday while we could and the water slide was closed the whole time
Review 30:The rooms were very nice. Helpful and kind staff. Love that it was pet friendly
Review 31:The room was dated, smelt musty, the bathroom needs some serious renovations due to moisture bubbling the paint etc. Overall the hotel needs major updating and renovations.
Review 32:Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Review 33:Upon arrival the first thing you see is the outside garbage can overflowing with garbage all over the ground, not a very good first impression. Staff said they had a large group the night before and didn't have a chance to change it yet; it was almost 3 o'clock by this time. Perhaps additional staff should have been called in to help; first impressions are everything. Box spring matressses should be cleaned of stains or at the very least bed skirts added to hide the unsightly stains; very unappealing.
Review 34:We like the location.
Review 35:Air conditioner leaked into room making floor wet. Was offered new room. WiFi was weak.
Review 36:Price was right for what I needed. A clean comfortable bed to sleep in.
Review 37:The wifi proved to be unreliable. The first three nights we stayed, it was fine, but the final two nights we had almost no connectivity. I also did not like the forced format of this review: type of travel was a research field trip, with colleagues, not one of the choices offered.
Review 38:Convenient location, and the continental breakfast was a nice feature. I appreciated the choice in pillow support, as too many places provide only huge high support pillows.
Review 39:One of the beds was terrible, as if something heavy had been resting on it for a significant period of time, huge sag to the mattress. I should have mentjoned to them, but only in and out and forgot at checkout.
Review 40:Great weightroom/fitness facility and pool. No hassle breakfast continental breakfast. Easy check-in and out.
Review 41:The place needed a serious cosmetic upgrade and there was a slight mold/musty smell in the hall but not in the room
Review 42:The location was excellent, the room was large
Review 43:I was uncomfortable with having to preauthorize a $150 damage depositwithout inspecting the condition of the room.
Review 44:My room had a beautiful view of the St. Clair River. The room was quiet, and you feel like you are at your own home.
Review 45:Liked the area of Sarnia where we took scenic walks, had coffee in an organic coffee shop and dined in a sushi restaurant. Liked the historical building (with the encased original well downstairs) and the brick wall and the furnishings in the room. Liked the helpful friendly staff.
Review 46:The employees were really helpful and kind. The rooms were spacious enough and well equipped. There was a great little swimming pool with sauna and even a waterslide. For the price this is a great place to stay. Highly recommended.
Review 47:The bedroom floor by the air conditioner was soaking wet due to poor drainage however, the room had a welcomed coolness in it.
Review 48:The pool, sauna, continental breakfast and front desk staff were great. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was large and had lots of great features. The front desk staff offered great suggestions on where for us to safely park our truck with our kayaks on top as well as provided shopping tips that were greatly appreciated.
Review 49:Breakfast room small very crowded. We requested extra pillows told to come back down in awhile to front desk when we did clerk had still not got them, had to go with her to find. Very dated when we came in one evening entrance from parking lot flooded. A/C didn't work very well
Review 50:Location was convenient. Room was spacious
Review 51:Front door locked and it was not even that late in the evening. Parking was in sketchy areas around the hotel. Front desk girl had a bad attitude when I questioned the rate was different than what I thought I agreed to. Towels were like thin rags.
Review 52:Lovely, clean and spacious room. Older, tiny bathroom-very clean. Amazing antiques throughout building...quite charming. Hardly heard the intense lightening and wind storm..felt very safe
Review 53:the value, we usually stay at the holiday inn and now every time I visit sarnia I will stay at this hotel, what a deal for two nights as we booked on the internet,
Review 54:The bathrooms could be updated a bit, but this is an older building and has nice character.
Review 55:Great value, clean rooms, good location, free gym with LOTS of equipment.
Review 56:The room was very dated. It smelt musty. The outside if the hotel was run down and there were weeds everywhere There was no air conditioning. It was broken and no one was available to fix it.
Review 57:The front desk staff were very helpful and pleasant
Review 58:I really liked the heated floor in the washroom. I like the brick wall in the hotel room which gave the feeling of being in a castle. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean.
Review 59:A tiny bit of rust on the sink could be hidden with glossy paint touch-up.
Review 60:Quiet. Roomy room, Downtown. Great parking. A bit older but had some character. Did I say, quiet ?Excellent, quiet convenient !
Review 61:If you do not get your room cleaned at 8:30 in the morning then it doesn't get cleaned at all. We had to spend the second day in an unkept room. Was very disappointing.
Review 62:Good location and helpful/courteous staff.
Review 63:Lovely spacious and clean rooms; pool and sauna; close to all local amenities being right in downtown Sarnia. Very close to the lovely Sarnia river front walking path.
Review 64:A steep flight of steps at the front of the hotel made it hard to get into the building with my bicycle.
Review 65:Convenient down town location. Was able to keep my bicycle in my room. Nice friendly staff and excellent room
Review 66:There was less parking than I expected. The exterior needs to be touched up and the interior, including room, should be updated a little.
Review 67:This hotel had a very nice 19th century style building with similar decor inside. Several facilities, including pool with slide, hair dressers and fitness club on site.
Review 68:The t.v. didn't work. Only one channel and the front desk clerk couldn't fix the remote.
Review 69:I used to stay years ago so it brought back memories.
Review 70:No ramp in front to bring heavy business suitcases to room. Had to lift them up all those stairs. Needs renovating and updating but for the price okay. Internet kept going out which I really needed for business
Review 71:I liked that many restaurants within walking distance and can see the lake. Downtown. Staff was great. Very helpful. Free parking
Review 72:It's an older property and perhaps not maintained to its potential. A few things didn't work well but staff were very accommodating in finding us another room...that was great.
Review 73:Most friendly and helpful staff I've ever encountered! Large rooms and great amenities if everything works well.
Review 74:Open drawer to see if there's a bible. Nope. Just a phone book and a lifestyles condom. Not even my usual magnum :(. 8 am aerobics in basement left my room a bass tunnel which I did not need after a night out on the town
Review 75:I was able to park my car out front of the main entrance
Review 76:Parking was not a problem during my stay because there was not very many guests at this time of year (April and bad weather). But I can imagine it would be a big problem during the tourist season.
Review 77:The old fashioned ambiance and the very polite and helpful staff.
Review 78:This was a business trip for us so the internet was an important consideration. However, it really did not work very well. They did say it was a new provider and would correct this. The pool and gym where great but as of April 19 it will be closed for repair. Hopefully it does not take long.
Review 79:What we liked was location, value, fridge, and microwave in the room. The breakfast was terrific. Including hard boiled eggs was excellent for protein as opposed to just day old muffins that the other super hotel only offers. We shall definitely stay here aging.
Review 80:water pressure from the shower sucked. a smaller than usual TV. baseboards were all scuffed up.
Review 81:free convenient parking, huge room (94) with comfortable bed and pillows. downtown area.
Review 82:No microwave, and the fridge was not cold and not adjustable. My room was lovely but a long way from the reception desk. T.V. wand was not easy to understand - the power button did not work until the set button was pressed.
Review 83:The neat, large room. It met most of my needs. I generally like this hotel.
Review 84:I think the parking is a little weird, we kind of parked under the hotel and had to reenter on a lower level, but all that's really not too important.
Review 85:It's a pretty hotel on the outside. I've stayed twice, and both times the staff had been super friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable and it's right downtown so you can walk to all of Sarnia's nifty shops, restaurants and bars!
Review 86:The rooms are old and patched.shower had water saving spout, and the fake ficus in the corner of room had 2 inches of dust on it.
Review 87:The location Is downtown.centrally located
Review 88:One person liked breakfast (early riser) but second person went later and waffle maker was not plugged in and the waffle batter was gone. This visit our room was disturbed by very young children in the halls and nearby rooms. We will likely ask to be away from the youngsters next time.
Review 89:convenience of location; ambiance; old fashioned door handles, etc. Staff did come down to our end of the hall to ask the families to be considerate of older people who had already gone to bed.
Review 90:This motel is dated and requires a face lift. Staff at check in were friendly however in later evening staff we unfriendly and not courteous towards the children who had questions regarding pool hours etc. Guests in neighboring rooms could be heard throughout the night.. Duct work requires attention.
Review 91:this is the second time i have stayed here. unless you have stayed here before you have no idea where to park. the exterior of the hotel needs painting at the least. the free breakfast now is a joke. previously the hotel had an excellent restaurant that now has closed. The first room we were given had an unchanged bed in it.
Review 92:very quiet
Review 93:Only one package of coffee in the room. We had to call for the 2nd. TV was difficult to turn on. Called front desk for some tips, even turning it on with the button on the side took several tries.
Review 94:It was quiet while we were there. The room was very clean. The bed was nice and big.
Review 95:Room could have been cleaner..Hair on floor in bathroom. Looked like just the center of the floor was vacuumed...........not the sides by the walls. Definitely needed dusting!
Review 96:convenient, breakfast, nice staff
Review 97:- WiFi was very slow and almost unusable in my room; However, I'm told they are about to change providers by early Dec. 2014 and have already had the preparatory wiring installed for this. So service should be fine in near future. - bedding ok but I prefer 100% cotton sheets.
Review 98:Friendly Staff Use of adjacent Fitness Center's facilities including swimming pool. Complementary breakfast
Review 99:Location was great when we stayed here 50 years ago but the centre of the city seems to have drifted away.
Review 100:The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room on the back was quiet.
Review 101:Room smelled of previous occupant (cologne in bathroom and pillow, closet like stinky feet). Sink was stained and warped. Otherwise clean. Bed was quite hard, second bed clearly had some broken springs. WiFi painfully slow.
Review 102:Excellent location downtown and just off waterfront and trial, free parking, WiFi, good continental breakfast with healthy options (hard-boiled eggs, yogurt). I'm not 100% sure he was allowed, but no one commented on my dog, which is a huge bonus for me! Very affordable. Cheery, helpful staff.
Review 103:room was dirty. cracker/cookie crumb under bed, carpet dirty. room needed remodeling. we were traveling for 2 week through Michigan, USA & Canada, this was the most expensive and dirtiest hotel we stayed at and offered the least
Review 104:Location was good. Restaurants close by. Quite area. Night desk manager very helpful.
Review 105:Place is out dated, but this does somewhat add to the old school charm. Room needed some minor maintenance, but wasn't a major issue. Staff promised to check the problem and fix it. Wi Fi wouldn't stream my radio station group y well.
Review 106:Great location. Can walk to many local shops, eateries, etc. Indoor pool with slide. Had a big room with couch, table, chairs and a king size bed. Reasonable rates and good continental breakfast included. Free Wi Fi.
Review 107:The stone walls in the hallway were a bit like a castle or fort. Not the usual hotel architecture.
Review 108:The staff was exceptionally helpful- gave good ideas as to where to eat.
Review 109:Hot water supply was uneven. Shower in the morning was low on flow and intermittently warm the COLD!
Review 110:Location and Simplicity of Stay. No frills -- paid a fair price for what I got.
Review 111:You could hear a live porno across the hall, the complimentary breakfast was a complete joke. I had to walk forever through exit doors to get to my room, then walk all the way back because my room key didn't work. The decor was hideous, and the parking scenario quite strange.
Review 112:The bathroom floor felt like it had heated tiles. That was anice surprise. It had an in room refrigerator.
Review 113:Wi Fi sucks!!!!
Review 114:For the price we paid ($80 w tax), this motel is pretty good. Continental breakfast is included which was not much but it's alright. I mean, if ur looking for a cook to serve breakfast then I would suggest u to go some place else. Otherwise, it was satisfying. Staff are so nice. Also they didn't charge us for our two dogs :) which was pretty awesome. The place looks real old but still in good shape. We used the inside pool but it was sad to say that we didn't get to use the slide bec it was already late when we went for swim. The room is fine. Not like hilton hotel but it worked for us. I would come back to this hotel again :)
Review 115:All the things that were presumed to make our stay even the least bit comfortable were missing down to having to get ice on a different floor. The lamp by bed didn't work at all even after new light bulb was put in. No fridge and/or microwwave for our convenience. The Internet was so slow that we just gave up on it. Our complaints got no resolution. The TV didn't work unless you stood on the bed upside down with your teeth showing and your elbows at your knee so that was give up on. The price was reasonable. Thanks for asking
Review 116:All the things that were presumed to make our stay even the least bit comfortable were missing down to having to get ice on a different floor. The lamp by the bed didn't work at all even after new light bulb was put in. No fridge and/or microwwave for our convenience. .
Review 117:The rugs were old and stained, also a bit smelly. That could be improved.
Review 118:The room was comfortable and spacious, the washroom was good and the queen beds were also comfortable. Overall, a good place to stay. The staff is also very friendly.
Review 119:could have a few up dates done
Review 120:the check in lady was very helpful in making sure we had a room which we were happy with as we had a bad location last visit. Breakfast very good. . enjoyed our stay, and would return again.
Review 121:Carpets old Bathroom Upholstery needed attention (cleaning, redoing...)
Review 122:Location next to the water On the main road for "downtown" Close to highway Bed was comfy
Review 123:The pool was closed for maintenance. For some reason the booking.com website showed only rooms with one double bed still available on the dates I wanted, so I booked two rooms for our family of four, then found when we got here that each room had two double beds so one room would have been enough. It was too late to cancel the extra room, and given the price it wasn't a big deal, but if you are in a similar situation, you might want to phone the hotel to check what you have really booked.
Review 124:This hotel has a feel of faded glory, but is very good value for the price. The location is great - a block from lovely parks and gardens along the St. Clair River, and a couple of blocks from a wide variety of shops and restaurants (try YOUR PLACE for inexpensive and creative home-style cooking) in downtown Sarnia. The room is clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is fine.
Review 125:The rooms are no where near as nice as they look on the website. The curtains were half off the rods. No screen on the window. Could not move the table to eat as the legs where not attached. On side of one chair came off. No light bulb in one of the only two light sources. No clock. The rigs was stained and smelled. We told them the bathroom light was not working. They said the maintenance man would not be in for two more days. The hallway rugs were stained and smelled bad. Would not eat the continental breakfast as we watched three epile put their hands into the bread and bagel bags. Very unhygienic. We were not told that upon registering at the hotel if you did not have a credit card you had to give them a $200 deposit that would be returned upon checking out. Which limited us while were there as we counted on that $200. Then I had to ask for a receipt stating we have them the $200 as all they did was put it into an envelope and had me sign the back then they put it under the till. I should not have had to ask for the receipt. The front desk was nice but also had an attitude. It says no pets, but a family a few doors down from us had a dog and walked it down the halls. All in all, would never stay there again. Would not recommend it to anyone. Would rather sleep in my car.
Review 126:Was close to the St. Clair river.
Review 127:almost fell leaving the elevator because it was not flush with the floor and the floor in the main area has a slight difference in height and I have tripped on that several times. also there is no ramp when leaving or arriving which causes you to lift luggage up the stairs. because of health issues I probably wont be able to stay at the drawbridge in a few more years . also amost all the brkf food was gone .
Review 128:very economical
Review 129:You could hear the people partying in the next room.
Review 130:The rooms were very comfortable, really liked the heated floor in the bathroom, and the staff was quite helpful.
Review 131:muffin and bagel or waffle is not deluxe breakfast ......air conditioner filter was so dirty no air could get filtered I had to clean it before I could use it ..... staff said pool open when I went there was told to wait 1 hr because it was being used for classes found out at check out next day guest can not be told this .......room smell old had to buy spray at dollar store
Review 132:If & when the carpets are removed or replaced, the Drawbridge Inn will be very attractive.
Review 133:Location, clean & comfortable rooms, very good breakfast.
Review 134:There is no ironing table so you have to use the bed! The hotel has older part which is not clean and smelly (but they gave me a room in the new renovated part, south, which is clean and new) so make sure to ask for that
Review 135:Location is great. There is plenty of parking spots and part that i got is renovated and very clean. There is an all the stuff you need wifi safety box pool etc and some rooms can see the blue water river
Review 136:The hotel desperately needs to be refurbished and upgraded; e.g. the lobby, carpets, bathroom sinks, corridor tiles, etc.
Review 137:The location. We returned to the hotel because we had stayed there twenty-three years before to attend the wedding of friends. This time we were in Sarnia to attend the funeral of a friend.
