Reviews for GEC Granville

Review 1:The internet service was terrible. i stayed there for 8 days , in these days i had to my data plan in my phone as there is no internet service. i called the front disk three times in that regard at different times and days. in the fist two responses, they told me they are experiencing a problem with the internet connection in the hotel and they are working on it and i should have the service right away . however, that problem lasted for 6 days. The third response was that the internet connection disconnected after 20 minutes and i have to reconnect to it again. Every time in the last 8 days i reconnect to the internet , however, either it doesn't work or it is very slow and keep disconnecting. The sheets were not clean when they were changed in the last day of my stay.

Review 2:i liked the room style where the walls are actually big windows. Staff was friendly.

Review 3:The man at the check-in desk was incredibly rude! Didn't believe me that booking.com had offered a free parking spot with the room and made me PROVE IT! He also stated that I was "asking too many questions" when I asked about the room keys. Needless to say, he really put a damper on the whole checking in process. It was also very noisy, but it was New Year's Eve, and we were put between two partying rooms.

Review 4:The room was clean, but small; location was good; central to all things downtown.

Review 5:Can be noisy.

Review 6:Good location if you don't mind a few vagrants outside. Excellent parking. It's also very clean and the rooms seem renovated recently.

Review 7:Being a student hotel I was anticipating it to be very loud and I wasn't sure how the staff would be but it was very quiet, very nice and clean and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Very nice fitness/whirlpool area and our room was perfect for what we needed.

Review 8:- None of the windows opens. Lack of fresh air. - A/C broke in the middle of the night. Nothing was done to fix it even after reporting. Had to ask for a heater, which was provided, but not offered. - Housekeeping - either knocking on your door at 9am - or at 4pm the room not done. Kept a pile of laundry near the door for hours. Never refilled the disposable cups/tea bags, etc.

Review 9:- Location: easy walking to downtown and to Granville Island ferry. - Free wi-fi. - Room is of reasonable size, with an armchair, and a desk.Comfortable mattress. Fridge, coffee machine, electric kettle. - Polite staff at reception desk.

Review 10:We were told this was an introductory price and the parking wasn't usually included. We will look at it the next time we need a room and hope that the cost hasn't gone up too much.

Review 11:The cost of the room, which included underground secure parking was excellent. The attached White Spot restaurant was perfect for breakfast.

Review 12:The staff at the front desk was very friendly. We had a Holiday party to attend in the area and we had free parking! That was the highlight of our stay.

Review 13:The hot tub was being cleaned on the weekend while we were there, and so we weren't able to use it. We were disappointed that it took all day. It was walk-able/bus-able to Granville Island, but there wasn't a lot to do around the hotel without taking a taxi.

Review 14:The staff were super helpful! The renovated room was very nice looking. We enjoyed all of the USB plug-ins and the convenient Wi-fi.

Review 15:Great location but poor service, especially Kevin at the reception and the duty manager on Sunday 29 November 2015 in the afternoon. Could not change USD to take a train as the hotel does not have exchange facilities. Asked for 5$can and gave a deposit of 59USD to be reimbursed when I return the borrowed 5 $can but was not trusted

Review 16:Hotel didn't have a name outside. Couldn't find it at first. Floor was not dry mopped daily or at all.

Review 17:The hotel was conveniently located near bridge, Davie St.,liquor store. Restaurants and 711. Even the cops had an office nearby. It was very quiet despite being in the heart of downtown. Clean, friendly staff and economical. Whitespot restaurant, next door was terrific.

Review 18:Was advertised that there would be a shuttle but there wasn't one. They gave up my queen size bed after I secured the Rez that same morning

Review 19:Great rooms and good size for what I needed

Review 20:Person at desk had very poor English. There was no information in the room about where to eat ,what to do, what to see.Television was analog although it worked well enough. Altogether not what I would expect from a Best Western Plus.

Review 21:Location

Review 22:We got locked out of our room had to go down to front desk three times we stayed on 9 th floor

Review 23:Friendly service, guard on site, under ground parking, white spot and location was perfect to Rogers arena & downtown shopping

Review 24:My room did smell like there had been cigars in it, despite rooms being non-smoking.

Review 25:GEC Granville is an easy walk from most locations, and you could access Granville Island very quickly. I like that they have an organics container and encourage the use of filtered drinking water rather than water bottles; environmentally conscious.

Review 26:We got our room after a bit of a wait as the girl was having computer problems. Dropped off our bag and put some items into the fridges and them went out to our two appointments at a local hospital, we did not return until 7 pm went to our rooms with me carrying our items as my husband is ill and cannot carry anything only to find our keys would not work. Went to front desk which was busy as there was an event in the lobby. new girl at desk says oh yes we moved you and I have your suitcase here. So I had to get new keys and now carry suitcase and other items and get my husband up to our new room. No apologies and the next morning we realized we did not have any of the items from the fridge that we had put into the original room. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!!!!! Needless to stay tainted the whole experience. We have many more appointments coming up and will need to stay in town for each, probably will not stay here again

Review 27:no info was given indicating that it was their opening weekend. They had no computer systems so it was all being done manually, which resulted in minimum 20 minute wait anytime you approached the front desk, front door didn't work and there was no where to park while checking in, all spots out front were no stopping taxi only. For our dinner we went down to request a taxi & it took so long to get them to call ( over 20 minutes) that we ended up walking & late for our reservation. the room door doesn't lock automatically behind you, you need to use the key fob to look the door, we weren't made aware of this until we called down to enquire why our door didn't lock. The rooms were also freezing even with the heat cranked. and even on the 7th floor traffic was extremely loud.

Review 28:I liked the security, the location was good it was the lack of parking while checking in that was a problem. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and organized. The rooms were nice and so was the reception area.

Review 29:I think that for a single person there should be cheaper price. In Europe lots of hotels are having prices for a single person not for a room.

Review 30:Accommodation very comfortable, clean, great facilities, pretty much right in downtown.

Review 31:Nothing.

Review 32:The staff and in particular one lady (I think her name is Roxana) was extremely helpful and polite regarding issues I had with my credit card etc. Very much appreciated. The room was clean, quite large and bright, the bed comfortable. It was already the second time at the hotel and I would go there anytime again.

Review 33:The area immediately around the hotel is not the best.

Review 34:This hotel is of a good standard for Best Westerns. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. It is within easy walking distance of a number of restaurants and a sky train station which goes to the airport.

Review 35:My only complaint if I had to have one, is our room was a little lacking in draws/storage space for two - but this is a minor minor issue

Review 36:Hotel was excellent from the location, facilities, cleanliness all the way through to the staff. Fab hotel it's a real shame it's closing

Review 37:No breakfast.

Review 38:Very convenient location with many facilities including microwave in room and paid laundry machine. Also, Free shuttle bus to sightseeing places!

Review 39:Had to leave facility to get early morning coffee..Downer for me. Pricing was high. Stayed in a deluxe Marriott for comparable money Only private expensive dining facility...for breakfast

Review 40:Staff was congenial and helpful

Review 41:It seems to me that it could have been cleaner

Review 42:Free tap water, recycling bins in the room, free downtown shuttle! Very good position, good restaurant downstairs and ok prices, nice people.

Review 43:Location a little disappointing and although 7/11, liquor store and seedy charity shop didn't do much for the location and gave the area a feeling of not quite being safe at night it was an easy walk into the nicer parts of Vancouver.

Review 44:Staff were excellent. Room clean and comfortable. Breakfast good value but disappointing 10% discount not allowed.

Review 45:Friendly, helpful staff at front desk. Clean & well appointed room. Nice exercise facilities with rooftop views. Free shuttle to cruise ship & quick walk to public transportation.

Review 46:Stayed next to a very noisy ice machine, impossible to sleep all night; room was not very clean, would not recommend walking barefoot there; fridge in the room was really noisy; lots of homeless people around that neighborhood

Review 47:Location, main locations within walking distance. Nice restaurants and good shopping places nearby; nice to have a little kitchen to warm up food

Review 48:A lot of homeless people sleeping on the streets. Some with obvious mental health issues related to offensive outbursts at pedestrians. Middle of the night screams of what seemed to be people being attacked outside. View of a building under construction, not so nice. No police presence.

Review 49:Bed was comfy

Review 50:Complete ameneties like perculator coffee maker microwave, safe box ironing board etc, staff are fast and helpful, checking out is no hassle fast and orderly.

Review 51:Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Offers free shuttle service in the downtown area. Excellent restaurant at the hotel. Our deparure wasn't until 6:00 pm, no charge to day check bags after checking out.

Review 52:Decent location - downtown/sky train walkable. Our Room on 10th Floor was well appointed. Took advantage of free bike rental (3hrs) to cycle round Stanley Park - a very enjoyable Sun AM. Didn't use the White Spot Restaurant as we had some good evening meals in Yaletown. Would definitely use this hotel again.

Review 53:nothing!

Review 54:location; view from room; free bike rentals (which we couldn't take advantage of this trip) free shuttle to downtown; free water taxi vouchers, security,

Review 55:Personally I find the price rather high. I assume this is due to convenient location, because other than that, this hotel is only average, or perhaps slightly above average.

Review 56:Great location Friendly, helpful staff Clean Quiet Loved the complimentary bike rental Great view

Review 57:Room was a bit small for two queen beds and therefore not really enough room for our bags. Slight seedy area.

Review 58:Free Use of bikes for three hours. Restaurant on ground floor was good. Having bus stops right outside was great. Free ticket on ferry was nice. Free shuttle to cruise or downtown.

Review 59:See above

Review 60:Could not connect to WiFi. Had problem with computer. We were both impressed with Kevin. He not only remembered our name which is astonishing with all guests coming and going but was pleasant and helped us with several items. He sure is a keeper for best western's guest services behind the front desk. Please let him know for us. Thank you.

Review 61:Construction work directly underneath our window, waking us early every day, and complicating entering and exiting the car park.

Review 62:Free wifi. Room was comfortable.

Review 63:Great location - an easy walk to reach most of the Vancouver attractions. The 'Hot Spot' restaurant (which is next to the hotel) is a brilliant place for breakfast/dinner

Review 64:Perfect location. Surprising facilities for a reasonably priced hotel (sauna, fitness, free shuttle, wifi,...). Rooms were not super but good compared many other hotels in this price range

Review 65:The room needs a dressing mirror. Coordination with the White Spot Restaurant should be allowed for room service . Otherwise, a good place to stay

Review 66:Close to car rentals, restaurants, shopping.

Review 67:Bit on the expensive side but it was peak high season

Review 68:In contrast to it's site hotel in west Vancouver this place was a breath of fresh air. Well run, clean with well maintained modern rooms. Great location with plenty going on at street level.

Review 69:Didnt like that there was no balcony and windows did not open. Had the room cleaned but sheets were never changed and the floor wasnt swept. wi-fi was spotty and made you sign in every time you came back to the building. Gym and hot tub were small and not what we were expecting.

Review 70:Good value for the room, hotel was in a good location. Convenient to reach everything we wanted to see in Vancouver. Shuttle service and bike rental was nice service as well, although the bikes could use some upkeep.

Review 71:The wifi kept logging us out and wasn't strong enough as it kept cutting out or buffering.

Review 72:The staff were super helpful and the penthouse area (with table tennis, fitness equipment and an area to sit down) was fantastic. It was in a perfect location to access the main shopping area as well as food, bars and clubs.

Review 73:No free breakfast, only 2 washer & dryer for the entire hotel, limited over sized vehicle parking.

Review 74:Free wi-fi, complimentary area shuttle that we did not use but was available, 7 eleven across the street, walking distance to many eateries.

Review 75:I requested a quiet room. Was assigned a room next to automatic laundry and the hot tub. Very noisy all afternoon and into the evening hours. I left my iPhone chord and adapter by the bed. A front desk person promised to check and send an e-mail with the status of the request. No e-mail came. Location is not very desirable. I walked to Canada Place and back. Streets and stores next to the hotel were frequented by homeless and drunk people.

Review 76:Room was nice, spacious, and very clean.

Review 77:Specifically booked room w 2 beds. Got here and got room w single....had to sleep on rollaway bed.

Review 78:staff was friendly and tried to do what they can to help you

Review 79:-When you flushed the toilet, water spilled from the water reservoir -The surrounding streets were a bit shady to say the least.

Review 80:-Personnel was very helpfull

Review 81:No breakfast included.

Review 82:Staff was so helpful, especially Amy who worked with us to change a booking, helped us get around town, recommended restaurants and helped us find our way to the airport.

Review 83:Room was very well appointed. Beds were very comfortable. Food at the adjoining restaurant was very good. Staff seemed knowledgeable about area and were helpful with any questions. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay here.

Review 84:A lot of homeless people in the area but they don't both you.

Review 85:Close to Granville Island .The local area isn't the best at night but if your a seasoned traveler it wont bother you.

Review 86:The basement from the parking garage and elevator smelled of septic and I didn't like being charged 3 different rates for the same room the 3 days we were there.

Review 87:It was walking distance to where we needed to go.

Review 88:I booked a double room with 2 double beds on 10.10.14 & was prepaid. We arrived late & were given a tiny room with a double bed, no carpets & no room to move. There was a smell of smoke in the room left by a previous occupant. When reported, the manager denied the smell but still promised she wouldn't charge us! She said the hotel was full and couldn't move us. Ithink this booking is a blot on Best Western's reputation.

Review 89:Reception staff were friendly.

Review 90:Could not get anyone at front desk to request a wake up call. Phoned at @1:00am

Review 91:Laminate floor instead of carpet. White Spot restaurant and shuttle to downtown.

Review 92:Wishful thinking to have breakfast included.

Review 93:Polite, friendly, helpful staff in a clean facility within walking distance from Tram from airport. Free WiFi. Free shuttle to cruise ships, Free ferry ticket.

Review 94:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Located in the town centre, it is a value-for-money choice. Special thanks for shuttle arrangement to get the car at Budget on the day of check-out as crashing with a Marathon of roads closing.

Review 95:disappointed that the hot tub was out of action, stayed on two separate occasions, pre and post cruise and found it was still out of use on return.

Review 96:very helpful staff, cleanliness of rooms and public areas, spacious rooms and comfy beds.

Review 97:The homeless people in the street

Review 98:Service Free Tickets to Granvlille Island Great rooms, very comfortable and relaxing Location White Spot restaurant

Review 99:nothing to dislike.

Review 100:Courteous staff, efficient shuttle service, excellent room. Proximity to public transport and cafe's restaurants was excellent. Bedding fine. Free bicycle hire as well!

Review 101:The Internet was a real problem. They did try to fix it, but it JPEG dropping out.

Review 102:Great service. And Aldo we could use the push bikes for free. Fantastic to get around on.

Review 103:No free breakfast

Review 104:Friendly, helpful staff Room was clean and comfortable Free bike hire and ferry ride was great Location was good and easy access to busses and waterfront Discount at on site restaurant

Review 105:Nothing but podwered milk/cream for tea/coffee

Review 106:Staff were very attentive. The free WiFi and bike rental were offered easily and with a smile. Enough room amenenties to have a decent coffee or tea and iron a shirt.

Review 107:- Small beds (for 2 persons)

Review 108:- Location Downtown - Free bike rental (3h per day) - Complimentary shuttle (taxi) service to city centre - Wellness centre at penthouse

Review 109:It was a bit far from the main attractions. Motel did have a shuttle to get you around in town but you needed to find transportation back. Not too big of a problem

Review 110:Cleanliness, money conversion at motel, staff very helpful

Review 111:Powdered milk, no carpets so you could hear people dropping things on the floor and was not that nice to walk on.

Review 112:Nice room, had a bath tub, very comfy bed, fridge was very useful.

Review 113:Internet was terrible and almost nil and it coasts me a lot to get other plan to manage my work .

Review 114:Staff and location was the plus .room cleaners was perfect and .parking facilities is ok

Review 115:construction work every morning at the building next door, that blocked our view as well. Group of extremely noisy and annoying college students around us in the weekend. Good: We immediately got another room when we complained. Unfortunately the students turned up in the corridors and on the roof next to our room at 2 a.m. Not the hotel's fault, but still very very annoying.

Review 116:Location is good. Fitness room nice. The hotel offers everything we need. Still, it felt different from the times we were here before when we had rooms with a view.

Review 117:The hotel needs to change it's advertizing as some things were not available like the shuttle from the hotel to the airport.

Review 118:Great central location, clean property and comfortable, renovated rooms. The roof top patio was awesome, I highly recommend grabbing take out and eating it on the roof or having a drink at night, looking out over the city.

Review 119:Renovations are a necessary but unfortunate evil, but not enough to ruin my stay.

Review 120:Location, amenities, staff, all of it was great. Complimentary bike rental was awesome and convenient!

Review 121:Noisy guest on our floor at 3.00am.

Review 122:Emily was very accommodating at Reception and we were very impressed when she rang after 15 minutes to see if we were comfortable.

Review 123:I was impressed in the closeness of this hotel. Walking distance to great restaurants in gas town, ferry to granville island and to main shops. I only stumbled across that the hotel Could give you free tickets for the small ferry to get you over to granville island - thinks this needs to be advertised more.

Review 124:The bikes could use some maintenance. The back break didn't work on mine and the tires were flat.

Review 125:The staff was great! Very helpful and nice. Loved the free shuttle service and bike rentals!

Review 126:The room didn't keep noise out; neither from the hallway nor from outside. Breakfast is not included in the price.

Review 127:The exercise room is nice, with a great view. They could use another elliptical, but the free weights are a nice feature.

Review 128:No windows you can open, the glasses are fixed and can not be opened. The heating system is loud and dries the air.(with 60-70% humidity setting). Wifi was too slow, it would rather not be.

Review 129:I did not get a room with a view but the hotel was pretty much full.

Review 130:The location is prime, close to Stanley park and grandville island. If you take Howe St all the way down you will end up in Canada place. The underground parking is great although expensive ($20) but that seems to be more than less the average in the city. Overall very good hotel, nothing fancy, just what I needed for one night.

Review 131:Hot tub could have been hotter.

Review 132:Awesome location, right downtown close to sky train and on a main bus route. The White spot restaurant in the hotel was great, had a great experience.

Review 133:sadly being so high up no windows could be opened any way being shut in seemed a bit odd

Review 134:staff were very helpful and kind

Review 135:Slippery floor at spa - actually quite dangerous. Took a bad fall, even though grabbing hand rail. Suggest providing non skid mats throughout including stairs to hot tub.

Review 136:Location, comfort, cleanliness
