Reviews for Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel & Suites
Review 1:Black mold in and around drain and tub stopper. ..but mistakes happen. ..it was more the security guard being super power trippy...costing 300$ to not even spend a night...getting kicked out at 3am...assuming i had been smoking....but hey...she's obviously Highly trained...maybe even retired FBI?? ...and knows whats happening...and my speaker mysteriously disappearing... It was an awesome birthday present... so thanks for a memorable birthday. .:)
Review 2:I normally stay at the Prince Arthur, and am normally very happy. Unfortunately this last stay had a few issues. Front desk staff was very disorganized, and a little rude. The room also had a funk about its smell, and I was told that there was nothing else available to change to. Thankfully I had to spend lots of time away from the room for work. Wondering if the check in staffer was just having a couple of bad days? not sure, but hope they get it right next time.
Review 3:Great location, large spacious rooms. Free parking.
Review 4:my bathroom was filthy there was grim under the taps. The plug for the tub was an old rubber one that had left and orange mark on the side of the tub where it sat. it was rusty and dirty. The bath tub was peeling and the paint was peeling wallpaper was ripped in places . The bathroom door was in ill repair. The sheets did not fit the bed there were no fitted sheets just layed flat ones on the mattress. I had to move bed to use a plug and the dirt behind there was unbelievable I slept on the top of comforter and was there a total of 6 hours. I did have the breakfast in the adjoining restaurant and the staff there were pleasant and the food good. I would never go back I was nervous the entire time I was there. I even took picture of bathroom in case family didn't believe me
Review 5:it might be a good location in the summer during the day . (close to waterfront) but was deserted and dark when I arrived late at night might have been nice in it's hay day. found it run down and musty
Review 6:I wish I could have stayed longer! I honestly can't think of anything I didn't like. Some people might not like that you can tell it is an old building, but it's got character and everything functions and is comfortable.
Review 7:My original room was nice, but I had a minor issue with my preference of room, so within 2 minutes the front desk was able to make changes and my experience was even better than expected. Best location for Thunder Bay night life.
Review 8:The hot tub was a bit scummy; reported to front desk and were assured they would look at it.
Review 9:Location & View (had waterfront view) Spacious Room Tons of Character Comfortable & Clean Price Breakfast included bacon & eggs but not juice
Review 10:Only little niggle is the hallway lights are very bright, and this grand, older building has settled causing the doors not to seat properly. This lets *a lot* of light into the room at night. I had to place a towel at the foot of the door to stop the light from entering there. Not much I could do about the side jambs. This would not deter me from staying here again, though.
Review 11:Right downtown. Very apparent this was a 5-star hotel in it's glory CNR days. It's aged pretty well. Comfortable beds. Great lake view. Superb staff. Very good, hot breakfast.
Review 12:The pillows are too hard and the hair drier didn't work in 213
Review 13:It's great to be in a historic place that is well kept, and with friendly helpful staff. Complimentary breakfast was awesome.
Review 14:The Friday night band singers were not very good.
Review 15:The Staff was very helpful. Doug the evening desk gentleman was great! Wealth of knowledge. Places to go, directions to get there, where to exchange money (Minnesotans') history about the hotel and surrounding area. Interesting to talk to. The breakfast was a surprise and nice touch. Great bacon and toast. Nice thick toast.
Review 16:Did not get a waterfront view
Review 17:Great location. Right next to waterfront. Just need to use the convenient walkway to enjoy the waterfront and all its amenities. Loved it
Review 18:No screen in the bathroom window so a little freaked out by the spiders coming in from outside. Note that we booked a room for 3 adults with free continental breakfast but when we arrived the desk clerk could not confirm that the breakfast was free and then after prodding produced a coupon for free breakfast for 2 adults. After some more negotiation we obtained assurance that if we kept the total bill under $27 we could have the free breakfast for 3 adults. Then in the morning at the restaurant (very nice btw but a little run-down) same story from the server that only 2 adults could have free breakfast yada yada but finally relented after patient negotiation. The morning desk clerk was a bit grumpy as mentioned elsewhere but otherwise quite professional. Overall the place needs a bit of TLC.
Review 19:We enjoyed the pool and the hot tub conveniently open til 11pm. The view of the harbor was spectacular from the lakeside room. Loved the historic ambience of the architectural style of this former CP hotel. The price was right ($88 CAD) for 3 adults for a huge room.
Review 20:The single elevator and no inside stairs was strange. Pool and spa broken and wish we had known before booking.
Review 21:Charming older building but clean. The view was nice and the downtown location gave us plenty of restaurant options.
Review 22:Staff recommended Stan's for pizza. It was very poor pizza. The pool area was under construction.
Review 23:Breakfast included. Having a pool. Proximity to waterfront.
Review 24:We loved the view of the habour. The motel is an older motel with the atmosphere of retro. But very clean and very well kept.Staff is very courteous and helpful. The rooms again are very clean and well kept and comfortable. The restaurant located within, is also very clean has very courteous/friendly staff. This place has a great atmosphere and we will be staying there again . 2 thumbs up.
Review 25:The gym and pool were out of action .... I get annoyed when I expect an advertised facility to be available .... I pay for it and don't get it!
Review 26:Close to the main attraction in Thunder Bay which is the harbour area.
Review 27:1.pool and fitness closed apparently for several weeks before we arrived 2. our rooms were mixed up. 3 gave me comp breakfast but buffet was out of food. my kids got 2 sausages and a slice of toast to share. had to sign a $59 bill to attach my coupons to.. 4. air conditioning was a window unit taped in with black electrical tape too upset for my first trip back to T Bay in 30 years with my kids.
Review 28:The waterfront was great..too bad there was no where to sit outside of the hotel and just admire view. Had to walk across overpass if you wanted to sit for a bit in the evening.
Review 29:Vintage bathroom lacked counter space
Review 30:Beautiful waterfront views. Rooms has both vintage and modern furnishings. Super comfortable bed, exceptional breakfast served in their 1912 dining room. Bradley & Doug provided excellent service.
Review 31:Terrible breakfast!!!!!
Review 32:I liked the location of the hotel to the waterfront, but the hotel is very old and needs some cosmetic up dates, screens are missing on the windows, etc
Review 33:I don't think there was a vanity in the bathroom; but I can't really remember; so it must not have been a very big deal.
Review 34:Nice large room; and it had real character. Some history.
Review 35:The pool/gym/sauna were "closed until further notice" - wouldn't tell us why. Hotel staff were very rude. The room wasn't very clean, bathroom door scraped the ground and wouldn't open all the way. The place even smelled funny.
Review 36:Not much. The breakfast staff were nice.
Review 37:rooms could use some remodeling. bathrooms were not very good or big
Review 38:view of lake was great overlooking the park. close to town, best view of all my stays. staff was very friendly and the food was good.
Review 39:The (non-smoking) room smelled of cigarette smoke, bathroom is a bit tired. Small elevator can be busy.
Review 40:Downtown location, quick check-in, large comfortable room, good wi-fi, easy free parking. Nice to hear live jazz music while I was checking in!
Review 41:The large hot tub in the pool area was out of order :(
Review 42:Staff was helpful. We were given the wrong room from the type we booked on line went up to the room and realized that was not the suite we had booked, staff was quick to correct the error before we un packed.
Review 43:Staff were cold and unresponsive. Was supposed to get free breakfast but when I asked about it the attendant kind of brushed me of and didn't really give me any information.
Review 44:Right on the harbor. Really old but kept up well. Nice rooms.
Review 45:There was a little bit of an 'old' smell that comes with the hotel. Perhaps carpet needs to be changed, walls are old, or just the building is old...100+ years old. The Pack'n'Play we got for our infant had lots of stains (although it appeared to be 'clean').
Review 46:Location of hotel, near the bay, the view was amazing. We could see the Sleeping Giant from our room. Out room was overall clean. The breakfast was good in the morning. The hotel had an old/classic charm. And the staff was helpful and friendly
Review 47:I felt that here was too much chlorine in the water in the room which made it undrinkable for me.The curtains should be made shorter so that they don't cover the air conditioner. I feel that $6.00 for toast and coffee was a bit steep.
Review 48:Large room. Comfy bed.
Review 49:It had a very old elevator and the air conditioner was covered by curtains which you needed to keep out the light. The bathroom fixtures were old.
Review 50:The location was great, very close to the harbor with evening entertainment and places to eat. But it was difficult to locate with lots of street construction downtown.
Review 51:As we walked in to check in 2 girls had the most serious faces. I mean it's a hotel. When we asked for extra towels for the pool I she looked so angry.
Review 52:Excellent service, and the best breakfast I've ever had for free in a hotel, but wish if the staff smiled a little.
Review 53:Kind of sketchy.. If the water pressure was worse, then it would really really suck.
Review 54:Nice historic building. Nice corner hotel room, cool layout, comfy beds.
Review 55:Clearly a century-old hotel could use some updates, but we found it charming.
Review 56:Wonderful view of the harbor. We had a suite with lots of space. Very reasonable price.
Review 57:Water pressure on the shower was terrible, comparable to standing in a sun-shower. Electric outlet in bathroom didn't work.
Review 58:The room was very nice and clean and had a great view. Staff was friendly.
Review 59:coffee maker didn't work when light was on. Staff was not friendly. It was dirty and stuffy. Old air conditioner was noisy. It smelled bad...old carpets too...bad neighbourhood.
Review 60:I felt the room smelled like dogs - did not have a fresh smell at all though it was obviously clean. The bathroom had no shelf to put anything on. Because of the bluesfest there was a lot of loud partying in the hallway - we didn't get much sleep and left a day early.
Review 61:The room was large and bright. Great bed.
Review 62:Good value for the money for starters...but then while driving there from Manitoba, we saw a sign on the highway offering a better rate...and when we mentioned this at check-in, the hospitable staff smilingly said,"OK" --and we saved another $20!
Review 63:I felt the price was high. It was Canada Day. We were on a road trip. We decided to pick a hotel instead of a motel for the occasion. The location won the debate.
Review 64:It was downtown and had easy access to various kinds of entertainment. The staff at reception, in the lounge and restaurant and in security were pleasant, helpful and accomodating. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Review 65:The internet speed was very poor after connecting (however I was in a room at the far end of the hotel and didn't heavily troubleshoot the problem).
Review 66:Hotel is located within a block of many great restaurants and bars and across the street from the waterfront (and the great skatepark). Great price for location.
Review 67:Have not had a bad nite even when the power went out all night in the downtown area due to a terrific lightning storm. Thanks for the show!!!!!!!
Review 68:Rooms are always clean and comfortable. We enjoy the meals in the restaurant including the breakfast.
Review 69:It would be great to see some of this hotel's historical glory restored.
Review 70:Great location. Clean and fairly well maintained. Staff were cheerfull and efficient.
Review 71:the fitness centre was horrible. I walked in and walked right back out. It would be nice if the hotel put a little bit of money into some equipment.
Review 72:We enjoyed trying a lot of the local restaurants. We especially enjoyed Portside, Bights and The foundry.
Review 73:Breakfast did not start until 07:00 so I did not have a chance to benefit of the free breakfast.
Review 74:Close to waterfront and Casino. Exceptional view of Lake Superior.
Review 75:Room door wouldn't latch, only held by deadbolt Had to ask about the promoted breakfast included Heat was set to off but still radiating, windows have no screens so can't leave open
Review 76:Perfect location when plans centre on downtown Port Arthur
Review 77:I didn't like the fact that I couldn't get a late check out of 1:00 pm, other than that everything was was good.
Review 78:I thought that the view was great. I enjoyed the fact that it smelled good when we walked into our room. I loved the fact that we had the pool area to ourselves.
Review 79:Very old decor, nothing new at all. Could hear neighbors and what they were watching on tv, doors slamming throughout the night (nothing to stop the doors), and the ppl above us using their tap/water. It banged SO loud it made the kids jump in their sleep. There was a stream of light coming in all around the door once our lights were off, the fridge wasn't plugged in - very inconvenient for ppl traveling with food(or milk for babies) that need to be refrigerated. The outlets were old and "loose", wouldn't hold a plug with an adapter. It literally fell right out. Was expensive for the quality (or lack thereof) of everything offered. No breakfast included. No microwave in the room. If anyone likes to stay in a hotel and feel pampered or traveling with kids, this is not the one for you! Not situated in a nice part of town.
Review 80:Can't say there was too much to like. There was a pool, a hot tub and a sauna, but the sauna and hot tub were out of order.
Review 81:The room was spacious, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is central allowing you easy access to everything in town. Nice lakefront view as well.
Review 82:2 of us had the breakfast buffet we were shocked to find out at the end that we were charged 18.99 each but they had charged us extra for coffees and toasts for a total of 52$ I call that gouging
Review 83:Rooms were great, roomy and clean
Review 84:I thought perhaps breakfast could have been included in the package, but that's not the end of the world. Other than that it was a good stay, I'd 100% choose to stay here again if I find myself in Thunder Bay
Review 85:the room was perfect when we arrived, very clean and bright. Everything was in working order. The staff were polite and always greeted us when we arrived in, even late at night. the pool and sauna were also to a high standard (very clean)
Review 86:There wasn't enough pressure in the shower. That was about our only complaint.
Review 87:The beds were great, the pool is fine, the location is excellent: Port Arthur is having a renaissance, and this hotel will be a part of it.
Review 88:Decor is dated in the public areas. The room Devore is ok but the bathrooms MUST be redone. The halls need painting. The entire hotel needs a serious refresh. It could be great. Sadly, it seems to be a party hotel on the weekends. Lots of drunken noise.
Review 89:A lovely dowager princess with excellent bones and a sense if history. Great location for the newest cool restaurants and pubs. Wonderful bed and sunrises over the Sleeping Giant.
Review 90:The decor is seriously dated. The entire hotel needs an aestheticoverhaul. The bathroom fixtures were worn, with tub enamel and cabinetpaint peeling. It has good bones but feels very down at heel. Thehallways have a strange, musty odour.
Review 91:The hotel has a certain charm as it is a 100 year old former CanadianNational Railway hotel. The location is excellent - next to therevitalized marina and a few excellent new restaurants (Tom Lin &the Silver Birch) and pubs (the Sovereign & theFoundry). The bed wascomfy as were the new white linens. The room was a good size, and theview of the Sleeping Giant was stunning.
Review 92:Rooms are a bit tired. On our visit, our night was disturbed by rowdy behaviour in a neighbouring room. I did not feel that it was dealt with very effectively. I brought this up with the day staff who were very helpful. We were moved up to a suite at the top of the building at no charge.
Review 93:Liked its charms in the public areas. Good food in the restaurant and nice friendly staff.
Review 94:very old, tub was un useable due to peeling paint---door to room was not too secure
Review 95:old hotel--showing her age---was right on the water front--close to food--comfortable bed
Review 96:Rooms showing wear and tear Tv cabinet with multiple damage Rug very worn Small toilet and tub
Review 97:Efficient check in Spacious rooms Comfortable beds Clean Love the ambience of this century old hotel
Review 98:Your website indicates that you can email Rocky (front desk manager). I sent an email a week ago and still no answer. There was a lot of noise from the hallway until 6:30 AM due to people yelling and screaming. They were there for a wedding.
Review 99:Room was huge! Comfortable. Impressive. Staff were pleasant and helpful and seemed to really like their jobs.
Review 100:Very dated. The couch should be replaced and the electrical system upgraded. The plugs were so worn out in our room, that we could not plug in our computers.
Review 101:The room was very spacious.
Review 102:Didn't care for the soap dispensers in the bathroom or the thin water spray from the shower.
Review 103:A nice hotel, helpful staff, renovations are very good, big airy rooms with all the amenities, good restaurant, enjoyed the entertainment in the bar.
Review 104:Need to fix the peeling panel in the elevator. Just doesn't look good.
Review 105:The location overlooking the marina was great. The hotel, even though older, was in very nice shape. The beds were and bathrooms were also very nice. The room we had was much more spacious than expected. All in all a great experience.
Review 106:The area north of the hotel is depressed and a little scary. The hotel is one of the great "railway hotels" of Canada and is historic and interesting, however they are charging full price for a very old low quality bathroom which my wife refused to enter because it looked so dirty. I wanted to love it but couldn't
Review 107:Dinner in dining room was very reasonably priced and high quality. The view from the room was awesome. The waterfront area south of the hotel is quite beautiful and interesting
Review 108:A little noisy being between a busy street and railway tracks. Found the on site restaurant a bit pricy.
Review 109:Airport shuttle a bonus. Very historical. Enjoyed reading and looking at pictures about the history of the hotel and city. The live entertainment was great. Staff very helpful.
Review 110:The stairs are the 1911 style of narrow passage ways and is quite steep. It would be a challenge for an older guest. The rooms with windows facing west do not offer a very good view of what Port Arthur really is.
Review 111:The hotel is old and historic. The view from room overlooking the harbour and the sleeping giant was wonderful. The restaurant was first class with a wide variety of food to choose from. It's downtown location gave us easy access toe the highway.
Review 112:No blinds to block out sun when A/C is on (curtains cover a/c unit).
Review 113:Large comfortable rooms. Awesome staff! Can't do enough for you! Handy to just about everything.
Review 114:Liked it all and even easy access to the highway expressway in the morning when we left
Review 115:Everything I was hesitant to book here due to its age and location. But what a wonderful surprise. Truly a highlight for us. The restaurant offered great food at reasonable prices and our server was incredible. She filled us in on the Sleeping Giant and other wonders. And offered advice on what to see while here. Wonderful all round experience
Review 116:I had no complaints with this hotel or my stay.
Review 117:The location was great and we couldn't have been happier with this choice of hotel. We had considered a higher rated hotel that was outside of town and were very glad we selected the Prince Arthur. The marina across the street was a wonderful little extra and there are many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel which is nice after a long day of site seeing - from steak and seafood to Thai and Chinese. A short drive will get just about anything else you could want as well as access to shopping including the local mall, Wal-Mart, Target, grocery and liquor stores. We had read all the reviews of this hotel before booking so knew we were getting a hotel that was not in it's prime but still well cared for with an exceptions staff. We were not disappointed. If you can overlook the the imperfections you really will get a gem and the perfect place to stay in Thunder Bay. I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again.
Review 118:Unfortunately the water in the swimming pool was too cool to enjoy.
Review 119:Charming older building. Considerate staff. Excellent location and access to the waterfront.
Review 120:The night staff was very rude, didn't get the rate or room I requested on Booking.com and the rooms need serious upgrading for the price we paid.
Review 121:The view was breathtaking!
Review 122:We were keep awake most of the night by other noisy guests. We complained at approx. 3a.m and some one told them to be quiet it was still going on at 5am and called again and finally they ejected the people but by that time we had had no sleep for most of the night.
Review 123:The location and the staff was pleasant. The room was clean but the common areas could use more care.
Review 124:The people beside our room had security called 3 times in one night! Didn't sleep the last night because of it! Needs updating!
Review 125:The view is unreal!
Review 126:at check-in it was somewhat a lengthly process as it appeared not to be too busy. It was hot that day so it was rather frustrating. Also the bathroom is slightly dated. The tub could use some minor repairs. The water pressure in the shower was rather low.
Review 127:We really enjoyed the spacious room. The view of the water and all the boats etc. was spectacular. Nice clean , quiet accomidations. I liked the iron and ironing board on hand that was very convenient.
Review 128:Breakfast included was great. Comfortable beds. Close to the lake and casino. Price was excellent.
Review 129:Room lacked lighting, remote wasn't working, hotel is pretty dated.
Review 130:The location and great value
Review 131:Hospitality & friendliness of the Staff They went out of their way to make sure things were right.
Review 132:Bathroom needs updating.
Review 133:Good stay. Pool was nice if a little cold. Staff were v. nice.
Review 134:The bathroom needs better shampoo and shower heads
Review 135:The hotel was nice it had a great restaurant
Review 136:Breakfast room staff inattentive
Review 137:Location, high ceilings, view of lake, bed
Review 138:Large room
Review 139:good parking good coffee clean bed
Review 140:It was a comfortable and clean place to stay with a wonderful view of the beautiful Lake Superior. And the staff were also very helpful and friendly.
