Reviews for Hostal Cerro Alegre

Review 1:I wish breakfast was a little bigger (eggs, maybe?) but they make up for it by not having instant coffee like nearly all other hotels in Chile (even some of the really nice ones we stayed at!!)

Review 2:Staff is super friendly and helpful, speaks good English, and the atmosphere at the hostel is really homey and relaxed. I actually ended up having to spend several days working here and there was a nice quiet room with a table upstairs where I could concentrate. The rooms are very quiet unless you get one of the two facing the cobblestone street out front. The location couldn't be better, right in the heart of a ton of great shops, galleries and restaurants. Even if you get a room with a shared bathroom, there are more bathrooms on this property than rooms, so waiting is never a problem. They let me use their washer and dryer and there's a kitchen that guests can use.

Review 3:The variety of food at breakfast was OK but not the amount.

Review 4:The room was spacey and clean; decoration was tasteful, information provided by the English speaking receptionist was very helpful. The hotel is at a street, where all the guides say that is you are lost try to find this street, it takes you to the right direction.

Review 5:Bed was pretty saggy, walls were so thin that you could hear everything (especially the idiot who rolled his suitcase down the stairs at 5:00 am!), and the coffee at breakfast was completely drinkable (all 3 mornings). Probably would not stay again.

Review 6:Close to major sights and to restaurants.

Review 7:Towels weren't clean. Kitchen was very small and had very limited equipment. We had to check out reasonably early (7.50am) and were aware that breakfast was only served from 8.30 onwards. So we spoke to staff the day before and asked if they could leave some breakfast out for us at 7.30am (just something simple) but, after this seeming to beinitially acceptable, we were told it wasn't possible just before we went to bed on the final night. Shame the hostel couldn't be more accommodating. Staff also didn't seem to know where local facilities such as an ATM were.

Review 8:Location was superb. Bedroom was big and comfy and the shared bathroom was adequate. WiFi was excellent.

Review 9:The staff spoke very little englsh and we found it difficult to get a light bulb chnged. One of our rooms was very pokey and too small. Breakast was only adequate.

Review 10:Located rigt in the middle of the art scene and the decor was cool.

Review 11:Being very picky, the breakfast was basic.

Review 12:We had a great room at the top of the building towards the back, it was clean & spacious, & no noise issues. I had read about the water heated by solar and mentioned this(as there had been no sun) they turned the gas boiler on & we had HOT water all the time we were there. The weather was cold, but we had a heater in the room & adequate bedding. The staff were very helpful, even provided a hair dryer. We also experienced an earthquake during our stay, again the staff were excellent, making us feel reassured. Great value for money.

Review 13:Great athmosphere, good service, great location.

Review 14:Everything

Review 15:Nothing in particular

Review 16:The decoration. The need for hydraulic maintenance on all bathroom equipment. The booking value.

Review 17:The location.

Review 18:Bathroom small and no towel bar/plumbing very noisy.

Review 19:Close to restaurants on the hill.

Review 20:the breakfast is a little poor...

Review 21:The location is perfect, thr place is beautiful, clean, quite and very comfortable.

Review 22:Noisy rooms, people above talking, thin floors.

Review 23:There was a problem with the room/rate I booked which booking.com solved it eventually!

Review 24:Great location, nice, helpful staff, decent breakfast.

Review 25:Though generally well organised things seem to get a bit lost when theplace is busy.. When lots of guests are there the wifi slows tounworkable, and dropped out for 12 hours at one stage. On a cold eveningthe power went out about 6 times in a row, again the following day.Rooms sometimes missed in daily clean and toilet paper ran out severaltimes. Kitchen is very basic equipped - no pots, two tiny pans, onebowl. Sign also asks guests to clean their dishes but no gloves or teatowels.. Really a kitchen to put some drinks in, not to cook a mealeasily. Tv reception poor, no antenna.

Review 26:Friendly and welcoming staff. Great location on CerroAllegre/Conception, only downside is there are no propersupermarkets nearby (20 min walk in El Plan). Great breakfast (fruitsalad/eggs, coffee/tea, fresh juice, toast, mini croissants).Lovely building, murals and decor nice and good breakfast roomatmosphere. Good hot water, never had an issue even when busy. Roomsgot a little cool at night but good heating built in. Staff all spokegood English.

Review 27:Great location near lots of nice restaurants. Super helpful staff. Hot showers and good Wifi. Really nicely decorated - seemed more like a boutique hotel than a hostel, fantastic value for money!

Review 28:We had room with shared bathroom which was on the upper floor. But the toilet was really close to the room :)

Review 29:Love the location surrounded by coffees and good restaurant. Also, the hostal has great artistic atmosphere. Our room had also heating (no 8) which is much appreciated during cold winter nights. Would recommend this hostal and be glad to be back :)

Review 30:They don't have a computer for common use, which can be a problem for the travellers who don't carry their own notebook.

Review 31:The private double room w/ bathroom is very cosy. The colective bathroom is also very clean, and we didn't have any problem with hot water (we had it any time we wanted, differently of other hostels we stayed).

Review 32:We'd booked a double room with private bathroom and ended up with a twin with shared bathroom. If it wasn't for the location we would have insisted on them finding us an alternative hostal.

Review 33:The location is great, close to many excellent restaurants. Danielle (hope that's spelt right) was excellent, helping us sort out a problem with our hire car, she made lots of calls for us to the Hire company.

Review 34:Place held together by good will of some of the reception staff. Some worn out bathroom fittings and sometimes no hot water. Wifi not available in bedrooms as advertised, except very intermittently. Breakfasts fairly ok, but sometimes slow and starting quite late. We would, however, use it again for its quirky and friendly nature and good location.

Review 35:Good location and quirky decor! Some very helpful staff.

Review 36:Lovely quirky house with creaky floorboards and art all over the place. We definitely had the best room No6 with our own dressing room and patio. It was quiet too with only the occasional dog chorus and seagulls screaming. The staff were lovely and very helpful and time to chat. They even understood our Spanish which is always a bonus. Great location with nice bars and restaurants a stones throw away. Would highly recommend but breakfast was a let down. Just an odd way of serving it so it took double the time needed. I'll let them off as everything else was fab.

Review 37:Ask for a room that is not facing the street. It can be noisy, even late at night.

Review 38:The hostal is in a convenient location, walking distance to many great restaurants and a tram. Nice breakfast. We loved all the artwork in the house and the staff were very helpful

Review 39:The staff was very knowledgeable and even helped us find a safe place to park. It was extremely central and we were recommended many cool things to see and good places to eat.

Review 40:We only stayed in Valparaiso one night, and Hostal Cerro Alegre was a great choice. The staff on the whole were helpful and friendly, and the homemade pizzas in the adjoining restaurant were lovely! The only one complaint I would make is that we were in the bedroom right at the back, and there was no shower close by and the wifi didnt seem to reach that part of the hostal. Other than that we really enjoyed staying at Hostal Cerro Alegre!

Review 41:Moved out after first night, dirty, hot, noisy, heard everyone who went to bathroom, air conditioning did not work, beds very uncomfortable!

Review 42:Wi- Fi and breakfast.

Review 43:We had some trouble paying with our Mastercard (credit card). The machine didn't accept our card, while we paid in several restaurants with the same card. Finally, on the last day, it worked. So better bring with you debit card.

Review 44:We stayed in December 2013 for 4 nights in the very nice and spacious room #5. Very good location with many bars and restaurants near by. Very good continental breakfast with fresh juice and fruit salad include.

Review 45:The shower in one of the rooms we stayed in didn't have hot water. The hot water situation was off and on in the shared bathroom. The lock in one of the rooms that we wanted to stay in was broken so we had to stay in a more expensive room instead.

Review 46:Really nice facility, friendly staff, beautiful, comfortable rooms.

Review 47:Great location in a very hip part of town close to some fabulous restaurants and very cool graffiti. Terrific breakfast, can easily walk to the bus station about 20minutes away. Very helpful staff.

Review 48:Stayed in Nov 2013 as a couple where we had an amazing time. The staff (especially Daniella) is knowledgeable, always available and all speak good english. We had room #2 who's spacious and very clean. We truly enjoyed the breakfast with real fresh juices. Located in Cerro Alegre, the hostal is close to many good restaurant and easy access to bus / metro. Would come back again!

Review 49:I would recommend this Hostal. \The service was great and although the room was double-booked the staff did everything possible to accommodate us. I'd stay here again. They even provided a 6 am breakfast!

Review 50:Beautiful hotel. Impressive by the arts on the wall. Clean, convenient. Good breakfast.

Review 51:Parking is a pain but that's true anywhere in the hills.

Review 52:Loved the location and artsy atmosphere of the hotel.

Review 53:The Shared bathroom was of poor quality.

Review 54:The breakfast was great.

Review 55:When i was going to pay they wanted to charge 10% extra for credit card. Nobody tells you that this charge will be applied!

Review 56:Very friendly staff. Handy location: Close to Cerros and Plan. Tasty breakfast.

Review 57:Great location and the staff were helpful
