Reviews for Reef View Hotel
Review 1:Not enough loungers on either the Pools or the Beach. Wine wasn't chilled and instead cold glasses were used which wasn't sufficient for 35degrees. Bathroom had little ventilation.
Review 2:Incredible view. Large bright bedroom with massive bed. Great facilities and ease of putting anything chargeable on the Island on your room. Nice pools and lovely beach. Building dated but rooms renovated and well air-conditioned.
Review 3:The feral children everywhere. Sorry need some adults only areas. Being harassed by other people's children is not my idea of a holiday.
Review 4:Friendly staff in concierge and the restaurant. Great views and location.
Review 5:The overall hotel (especially the outside) is a little dated and could do with an update, however the rooms (with a view) more than make up for it Check in timings are very frustrating as flights arrive in the morning (before 10.00am) however check in isn't until 2.00pm which means hanging around. They do have a wash room facility, however not ideal when you want to be able to get sorted out and enjoy the island.
Review 6:We upgraded to a sea view in an upper floor and it was certainly worth it. The view was amazing! Panoramic windows across the width of the room and great positioning of the bed allowed the most beautiful view to wake up to each morning
Review 7:I had my family of fourteen and was told when we checked in the main restaurant did not need reservations. The family wanted to eat there on our last night and was told by host that they were fully booked and we could see empty tables, it was 8:15 in the evening.
Review 8:The location was very good. The view spectacular.
Review 9:Location, of resort was excellent- walking distance to everything. The organization of travel to and from airport wAs excellent! Island never felt crowded even though we visited at a very busy time. Just lovely and very relaxing!
Review 10:The location was fantastic, close to the beach and a short stroll to Main St. Shuttle bus stops right at the door. Special mention to Matthew on concierge for his excellent customer service!
Review 11:Dust on table and bed head as well as ANTS. Shesh, it's easy to fix that housekeeping!
Review 12:Location, buffet breakfast,Room, serviced every day, Staff, Stunning views from balcony, free shuttle bus, plenty of parking for golf buggy and Pool. Great holiday!
Review 13:The food was expensive and very average. The drinks service took way longer than the food.
Review 14:The beach and sea where stunning. The resort as a whole was great.
Review 15:we stayed 7 days, hotel is overaged you can can have breakfast a three locations, of which one is in the ZOO, not really my thing the other two does not meet 2 star rating, poor managed and floor very dirty every day, think they must do better, for cappuccinos have to pay extra and they are not worth it airco from beside company make a lot of noise average sleeping beds. pillows poor quality i will not booking in this hotel again
Review 16:view at 16th floor rooms overaged but clean towels
Review 17:Servicing of room too early. Collection of bags two hrs before departure. Continental breakfast choices limited..
Review 18:Central beach location. Large bright room with good size balcony.
Review 19:The price-we had only one night there (to look at a boat) We stayed two nights at Airlie beach for 1/2 the cost of one night on Hamilton!
Review 20:The cheapest last minute option
Review 21:We had no bad experiences. Our every need was anticipated.
Review 22:The staff were attentive and tended to all our needs without having to ask. The food was excellent.
Review 23:I do wish we weren't on the first floor. Will be asking for above 5 floor next time.
Review 24:Staff where so nice. Great customer service and willing to help out. Food was yummy. Maybe a little too much money, but worth it. Bathroom was a great size.
Review 25:Very loud wind in the night due to the way the hotel is constructed (corridors are open to the air and wind), the room had a strong dusty smell
Review 26:Nice view from the window, close to the beach and large size of the room
Review 27:It would be nice if the rooms had screens on the sliding doors to the veranda to enjoy the sea breeze and view but it is impossible to have the doors open because the birds come into the rooms. Also the restaurants were fine for breakfast or lunch but we found them a bit poor in choice and quality for dinner. We only had lunch and dinner at the hotel once and after that ate at the Marina every time.
Review 28:Our room was located on the top floors of the hotel and the view was stunning.
Review 29:Expensive accommodation compared to overseas locations.
Review 30:Our room was amazing, corner room, high on level 16 with beautiful views which I requested so I was very happy with the room given. Also we were given bottle of wine on arrival for celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, (we were married on Hamilton Island) that was lovely. Staff were always happy and smiling. Great breakfast.
Review 31:The mattress could have been kinder to my back.
Review 32:The views are great from the upper floors (5 and higher). The pools and beach in the area are great, and the included paddle boards and kyaks were kindly accepted.
Review 33:outdated... the hotel needs update. very commercialized... staff is not personal and just like running a business to make money. tour desk is the worst.. not helpful and bad attitude... overall sad to see Hamilton Island is over crowded and overpriced.... the whole island is outdated and very limited food options... not prestigious travel location anymore...
Review 34:good view on the high floor
Review 35:very uncomfortable bed During school holidays more staff needed in the restaurant as the staff were unable to manage large volume of guests at breakfast
Review 36:Generous size rooms and balcony
Review 37:Nothing.
Review 38:Staff were excellent, amenities were fantastic and the view from our hotel room made everything worth the money. Great location on Hamilton Island. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Hamilton Island or the Whitsundays!
Review 39:Not enough clear information on how to use facilities eg: contact operator, use TV. Our main problem was our room was too hot which made it uncomfortable, temp wouldn't go below 22.
Review 40:The view from the coral sea room was amazing.. Clean rooms.
Review 41:Our non-smoking room smelled of cigarettes so we had to vacate it for an hour while they ozoned it. The "Kids Eat Free" menu is highly restrictive, our 7yo boy wouldn't eat any of it, but the kitchen was totally unprepared to modify their preparations. A bad experience that it took the hotel manager to resolve.
Review 42:Great room, fabulous shower (after being on a yacht), helpful (but sometimes inflexible) staff.
Review 43:The door was too heavy resulting in serious bruises on my arm when it sprang back on me. The lock was damaged taking several minutes to open. Safe was not working and staff member was rude (suggested that I had a previous guest's ipad)and failed to fix it although hesaid they would.
Review 44:Central location and beautiful view. I have already recommended it and may return.
Review 45:There was definitely a staff shortage. Our room wasn't serviced one day until we requested this to be done. There were several small issues with items in our room. We would have loved a higher level room as requested. We have been there several times before and disappointed with the level of service this time. One morning breakfast tables weren't being cleared and it was difficult for guests to find a clean table.
Review 46:We loved having breakfast included and a coral sea view (only just - we were on floor 5 and would have loved higher.)
Review 47:I thought the menu choices on the resort side where limited.
Review 48:The rooms are large & spacious we are a family of 4 so great to have plenty of room. The view was spectacular.
Review 49:Teeny crawling insects...maybe some kind of ant??...appear if you leave your cup which you may have had coffee or tea in on the tea making area. You have to wash it straight after consuming to discourage these insects from coming. Notice that the complimentary cookies are not supplied which is surprising considering the accommodation rates charged equates to that of a 5 star hotel in the major cities. The hotel could use some refurbishment especially the bathroom.
Review 50:Great location and the free use of the non-motorised sport equipment was most useful but you may have to wait a while for it or may not even get a chance to use it on a busy day at the beach. The shuttle is sooo good. Easy to get around on the island. View from the room was stunning - you can catch the sunrise from the balcony. Just lovely. The buffet breakfast is very good but would be very expensive for the smallish to average size eaters.
Review 51:Not a charming place; large hotel with buffet breakfast with loads of people
Review 52:Pool nice; rooms on upper floors best; room and bathroom good sized so family of four in a single room worked well
Review 53:The Breakfast was of poor quality because of poor food preparation & the staff were unhelpful.
Review 54:Great room - exceeded expectations - large comfortable beds.
Review 55:Moved to noisy low room by lift. Don't stay in room 210 as its too noisy with no views
Review 56:The top floors have wonderful views and the staff were excellent
Review 57:There was lots of long black hair in my bed. Very expensive in comparison to other accommodations given age of property, and no transfers or breakfast included for price. They took our bags from our room without being asked and then we had to try and find them in order to catch the bus to the ferry. The front baggage men were really helpful.
Review 58:The bed comfort was great, the view amazing.
Review 59:Except for breakfast, the meals in the hotel were very average to poor
Review 60:Great room, excellent friendly service, transfers to and from airport well managed
Review 61:the comfort of the furniture and the cleanliness of hotel. Needs a renovation. Food could be better
Review 62:Location was great. The views were awesome. Tennis courts were nice
Review 63:Not enough chairs at beach and the fact that our bathroom was not totally cleaned everyday
Review 64:The fact that we already had our room number at airport. Free shuttles and busses throughout our stay. Location of resort to the marina and the beach. The spectacular view from our balcony. Plenty of fresh beach towels everyday and the guests departure and arrival lounge. It was so easy to book our tours with the counter staff. She was amazing in her recommendations. Her name is Lucy.
Review 65:My room has no second lock and no door stopper. My room was never serviced till around 3pm to which we where back at the room at that time so we barely got a full service. Plus they made the bed once with a very mattress cushion underneath. We couldn't sleep in that bed that night.
Review 66:The location was great and the pool was heated which was a big plus.
Review 67:My 3 year old was unwell one night and got sick on the bed. The duty manager Chris came up changed the bed and offered to call a doctor. He also said to call anytime during the night if needed. The next day at the change of shift 'Will' rang to ask if we needed a doctor and to ask if my son was ok. They were very caring.
Review 68:Bed was a bit uncomfortable.
Review 69:Stunning sea views from room, staff are super friendly, breakfast has plenty of options, amazing free facilities - pools, spa, sauna, gym, tennis etc.
Review 70:The room next door had screaming children which was not assisted by the common (locked) door which was the main cause of the transmission of sound. These doors should be properly sealed.
Review 71:almost everything
Review 72:Lack of a DVD player in the room. But when we asked for one they provided it the same day.
Review 73:Excellent facilities, great breakfast, friendly staff, excellent view.
Review 74:The view is just amazing and the rooms are massive! the staff were absolutely brilliant and helped us with as much as they could. We had 3 fabulous days here and it was like luxury!
Review 75:Lots of children here and can be noisy during breakfast and dinner.
Review 76:Very friendly, accommodating staff, particularly the team of porters, and frontline staff during breakfast. Clean rooms, great bathrooms
Review 77:First, I was surprised at the hotel's insistence for the full stay amount to be paid before you arrive at the property. Unfortunately, now I know why. The pictures are deceptive and if we had the option of cancelling or cutting our stay short we definitely would have. It is a 3-star property with average facilities but priced as a 4 or 5-star would be.
Review 78:Location & views of the Catseye Beach
Review 79:Room was not well cleaned everyday but nothing critical...
Review 80:Hotel facilities like.... stand-up paddle, snorkelling, sailing, etc... just in front of the hotel on the beach ! Excellent location and beautiful views. Friendly staff. We got even an upgrade for a reef view room !
Review 81:Got dessert from room service was really poor quality and price for what you got was terrible...really disappointed
Review 82:views...location..breakfast...beach activities
Review 83:The attitude of everyone on the island, looking at guests like AUDollars. No info provided abt the reef barrier visit before arrival & check in which makes you a prisoner for the whole period.
Review 84:Nothing!
Review 85:When we arrived the hotel was not as expected had not appreciated it was a tall block. The view from our room was stunning but we actually up graded to a small bungerlow as it was quieter. Good restaurants needed to be booked and were expensive but food was good. To make the most of the area needed to go on trips but again expensive but worth it.
Review 86:Beautiful island location polite staff.
Review 87:Wifi allowance is not enough, particularly with kids. Prices are a little high for anyone on a budget
Review 88:Staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. Bus service on the Island is a great idea.
Review 89:The only thing is, the bathrooms could do with a revamp.
Review 90:Being able to charge food, drinks etc to your room from all over the island is great. The staff are very inviting and friendly.
Review 91:No noise insulation from hallway. Only 2 lifts working one morning so couldn't get down to lobby - stairs not an option for those with prams & dodgy knees! Breakfast was just okay but missing some things some days. Dinner shouldn't have been served it was so awful - however my husbands was good.
Review 92:Large room, friendly staff, great view (paid extra for it though!).
Review 93:Was a bit worried about the feeling of living in such a tall building on a beautiful Island. But the view from our room and the generous balcony did not make us regret our choice. The operations at the hotel are super efficient. Staff are great and will gladly help you with the smallest problems.
Review 94:fell down steps off the bridge across the pool due to poor lighting
Review 95:golf buggy, helicopter flight, fabulous view from the room, excellent food, drinks at Bommie, king size bed was a real bed not two singles shoved together, very good customer service
Review 96:Hamilton overall is a place that has little to no authenticity which made it a destination we will not likely return to.
Review 97:The helicopter tour to heart reef and Whitehaven beach is absolutely worth the money!
Review 98:Being as it rained one night we wanted to stay in and just chill out. There could be better facilities for this. The TV system is out of date and the wifi was way too slow. Upgrades on both needed!
Review 99:Great hotel, very central to everything. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was comprehensive and of good quality.
Review 100:The internet is not working too well and is often cut off.
Review 101:We had a room with the best view - even from our bed :-) The whole hotel is modern decorated in simple and elegant style. Hotel is walking distance from beach, Marina etc.
Review 102:Huge hotels a bit of a blot on the landscape but when you're on your 10th floor balcony enjoying the view (and the antics of the cockatoos!) , you can't see it!
Review 103:Welcoming staff. Very professionally run hotel. Free transfers to and from the port and airport and around the island. Though also great fun to hire a buggy and explore on your own. whole island owned and run by the same people, all other restaurants bars etc operated just as efficiently. Views stunning, especially with a bottle of fizz at the One Tree Hill bar!
Review 104:Due to limited hotels in this area, the standard is not that high. The room looks amazing on the description site, but in real life the bathroom is old and the sofa was dirty. A bit expensive compared to what you get for that price somewhere else.
Review 105:Location was great, but what do you expect when the island is tiny. The free use of sports equipment at the beach was great (snorkeling, SUP etc)
Review 106:Credit card surcharge at reception but not at resort restaurants - better not to charge food etc to your room! Being 25 years old, the hotel is getting a bit dated with some renovation needed - we had some peeling paint, mould in the bathroom etc. Overall hotel was good but a little expensive given it is in need of an upgrade
Review 107:Lovely island, very large room and bathroom Useful communal laundry facilities
Review 108:A bit tired and dated. Not overly clean. WiFi a bit slow. And expensive, but then it's an island.
Review 109:Location, location, location! Wildlife. Comfortable. Good service. Facilities. Free WiFi.
Review 110:Spacious rooms for a family with 2 children. All hotel staffs are friendly. They are always smiling. All amenities are just fantastic. Beach is pristine. Love this place so much.
Review 111:housekeeping very poor as room had not been cleaned properly, lots of hair on toilet floor, 2 x dead large beatles, 1 x living large beatle on corridor and after mentioning to at least 3 members of staff they were not removed, lots of paint on the corridor floor which had come off the walls and room service left used plates and uneaten food outside room doors for long periods
Review 112:location, view, staff
Review 113:Room service poor -had to be called back three times. Insufficient food as required at breakfast. No glasses as needed. Service at lunchtime awful -waited 1 hour for order.Very crowded - breakfast needs more organisation and supervision.
Review 114:Good situation with lovely views. Travel (buses) carts etc very good (not enough carts at year end)Luggage arrangements excellent. Large room lovely view.
Review 115:Everything is expensive on the island. Housekeeping knocked at the door before 8am and we'd been out until 2am so remember to put the do not disturb sign out! Check your invoice we had another rooms charge on ours. There was a power outage for 2hrs, 2 friends of ours in other rooms were advised but we weren't and the room became very hot we both woke up in a sweat.
Review 116:The staff were very friendly, breakfast was really good. Our stay was enjoyable. I'd stay again.
Review 117:Come on, management, you are so letting your wonderful staff down. The rooms are tired, outdated, soft furnishings have seen better days, the bathrooms look in need of redoing. I'm sure this was once an amazing hotel to stay at, but the refurbishment programme seems to have been neglected. And when I mentioned this to the staff, they were well aware of the fact that an update is needed. The saving grace was a comfortable bed and good bed linen. Breakfast at resort centre to be avoided - the windowsills were thick in dust with a discarded tissue where we sat. It's so easy to put right!
Review 118:An amazing location, it goes without saying. And impeccable service from the most lovely, well mannered staff.
Review 119:The balcony furniture is most uncomfortable. In room Wifi needs to be available free of charge.
Review 120:Very quiet spacious room and bathroom. We always stay at Reef View as we know what we are getting and are never disappointed in the service, quality of the hotel. The breakfasts are excellent and the staff are most attentive and friendly.
Review 121:I think the hotel needs refurbishing as its getting dated. We had to ask for the bathroom to be cleaned and it was only cleaned once properly the whole week. There was a bottle in the corner that did not belong to us and was never cleaned. The bath was never cleaned either. We felt the resort needed a restaurant that did easy meals in the evening as all the food was really fine dining.
Review 122:We liked the breakfast and the beds. The room size was good. The staff were really helpful and so was everyone on the Island.
Review 123:EVERYTHING is extra - and very expensive. Be very careful to make sure that breakfast is included - I thought it was, but it wasn't (an extra $128 per day.) the food quality s poor for the money - canned sauces and no fresh fish. "Free" wifi only lasts a brief time - then the hotel changes $25 per day!
Review 124:Beautiful island, with gorgeous views! The sunset dinner cruise was the only truly good food we encountered on the island.
Review 125:Service was ok but not what we expect from this calibre of hotel. Everything we asked that was a bit out of the ordinary was a problem; early check-in, late check-out, having milk jug in our room after they were out of stock of little milk jugs
Review 126:Nice facilities - great location
Review 127:There is one of restaurant staff Jimena who the name is Jimena and she is so rudely for the service. We have not finished the meal but she asked us to pay the bill. We are so angry for her behavior and we can not understand why this worst staff can still work in this such good hotel.
Review 128:The price of the golf carts should you need them to get around . Price of a hire car ! While walking was great for us if you are elderly or unfit it is way too hilly should they miss the shuttle . Tour desk number I called was based off site and very unhelpful and simply said all the tours were fully booked and we couldn't do half of them ( wasn't the case ! ) Pools closed early !!
Review 129:Room was sensational totally must request a higher floor and get a Reef View . We stayed on the 19th floor . Jaw droppingly stunning Food was excellent Pools Shuttle bus service and transfers efficient and free !! Tour desk staff in hotel were very helpful and accommodating unlike the number off site for the hotel which were hopeless Super gift shops around the resort not filled with rubbish - nice quality and value
Review 130:It's ugly from the outside, and has classic 80s international hotel public spaces inside, which do not commend it as belonging to one of the great eras of architectural style.
Review 131:Great location, amazing island, great proximity to facilities, easy to get around, great views.
Review 132:Very overpriced for the standard of this hotel. Breaky buffet was average. Cleanliness of the hotel was poor-room wasn't cleaned one day and receieved no apology. Lots of young families so not ideal for couples.
Review 133:location is good, close to beach and main pools, massage etc.
Review 134:Hotel a little bit tired Fruit selection at breakfast poor. Tropical fruit unpeeled Not enough shade around pool area
Review 135:Staff were very obliging pleasant and helpful. Good position Good view
Review 136:$34 for breakfast that was over cooked and dry. No staff communication Take a number your a room number in a hotel like this no name!
Review 137:Free island shuttle buses
Review 138:Breakfast should have been included for $550 a night!
Review 139:Family rooms give lots of space and were very comfortable. Loved the pools, dining options and water sports! Great view!
Review 140:The hotel is a bit of a monstrosity - I'm not sure how they got away with building such a large building on Hamilton Island - it took away from the island's natural beauty. The room had tiled carpets which smelt funny and there was a strong chlorine / bleach smell.
Review 141:The service was good, and there's a shuttle which takes you around the island - which was great for my Mum who'd recently had a knee op.
Review 142:We had our first dinner at their restaurant and that was really disappointing! So we never tried it again in our stay there.
Review 143:The view of the room was just amazing. Their breakfast had a wide variety of choices.
