Reviews for Fauna Hotel
Review 1:Incredible view from room and restaurant. This is an eclectic hotel in an eclectic locale. Staff were helpful and polite. Neighbourhood is full of excellent restaurants and bars - some unsuspecting until you get inside. This part of Valparaiso is perched on the cliff so walking around can be a bit of a challenge, but well worth it!
Review 2:I wish there was a better way to understand where the Fauna is located at. Maybe a more detailed map on their website. It took us quite a while driving in circles, and then in broken Spanish asking someone where it was. Luckily they were able to direct us to the right spot, but very frustrating when you are tired after a long flight. I can't even imagine if it had been late at night. Breakfast-I know it is just me, but I love a big hearty breakfast. When I read that breakfast was included, I was super excited. Breakfast didn't meet my expectations but it was fine for my husband. Like I said-my expectations are high when it comes to breakfast though. A few eggs, a piece of toast, and some fruit will not last me through 4 hours until lunch.
Review 3:Everyone at the Fauna goes out of there way to make you feel right at home. They help with bags up and down the stairs, give local suggestions, and can book winery appointments for you. When we checked out, one gentleman even rolled our bags to the very end of the street for us where we had parked the car. Very helpful!
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Very helpful staff (American had lost my luggage and I needed help with aspects of this). Good restaurant on the roof (though best to book, it is popular) and nearby. Interestingly furnished rooms. Views from the terrace
Review 6:Communications - Hotel did not respond to questions on two pre-trip emails and staff did not communicate that their restaurant would be closed for dinner due to a kitchen renovation on our last night even though we had booked the day before and asked a question the day of. They did make an alternative reservation for us when we showed up for dinner and learned of the closure. Our room was #4 on the lowest level and had a minimally used foot path along side so that the window curtain had to be closed for privacy.
Review 7:Location was very safe in a tourist area. They have an excellent, reasonably priced restaurant for lunch & dinner. Included breakfast was very good. Internet was fast and reliable.
Review 8:With the exception of the man on duty at night, very surly day staff who barely raised a smile. A very dark room with absolutely nowhere to store your clothes. A bathroom so dark you can barely see yourself in the mirror so I had to do my makeup by the window in the bedroom.
Review 9:The location is superb and the perfect spot to explore and view the beautiful Valparaiso. The restaurant is great and has a lovely selection of wines. Towels were soft and fluffy and should be the standard in all hotels.
Review 10:You may need to remind them what You have asked, like booking a tour or transfer, especially if You made booking months ago. They still will provide you good service, but please remind them Your requests once in a while to avoid missunderstandings.
Review 11:Wonderful hotel, in a wonderful location with excellent restaurant serving great food while you enjoy stunning views of Valparaiso. They also can offer city tours with extraordinary guides. You deserve it, stay here! You will fell in love with Valparaiso if You are visiting it the first time.
Review 12:Terribly noisy room (#10), as it is directly underneath the reception and wooden floors are very creaky. It got quieter after midnight. Personally we found the room too dark: it didn't make the room feel cozy but uncomfortable.
Review 13:Exceptional staff, great location, good breakfast, very good value for money. All in all, we would definitely recommend the hotel.
Review 14:Rooms were sparsely furnished and felt "cold". Room missing some basic amenities any other hotel would provide. Loud music and noise all night from neighborhood. Made sleeping difficult.
Review 15:Location, location, location
Review 16:The funkiest bohemian style property with the best views overlooking Valparaiso! The restaurant is also something special. Staff were amazing, which included looking after us on our early arrival at 11am even though checkin wasn't until 2pm. They let us go into the restaurant even though it was closed and provided us with free coffee. The same on our early 6am departure, provided us with take away food and coffee even though the kitchen doesn't open till 8am! Highly recommended this property. I will be back!
Review 17:Rooftop restaurant was very good with a lovely view. Location is an easy walk to the funicular and also to the main part of town. Artsy animal themed decor throughout.
Review 18:Our room, while very comfortable and well decorated, was really dark. We were below the main level and didn't get much natural light at all. They tried to light it well, but was still a bit gloomy for our taste. No view at all. But, it was still worth the price. Oh, and I would add a mirror in the room. The only one was in the bathroom and it fogged so easily because there isn't a window to open! All in all, I'd stay again but upgrade to a room with a view, or windows at least.
Review 19:The style of the hotel was amazing. Having the restaurant there and having such a great view in the mornings for breakfast was incredible. The staff was also very helpful.
Review 20:Our room was on the main floor and it could be a little noisy - I'm thinking it would have been better on one of the other floors
Review 21:Excellent location to get to everything you want to in Valparaiso; friendly and knowledgeable staff
Review 22:Excellent location with beautiful view of Cerro Conception and the bay of Valparaiso. The staff was really nice and helpful and the room was clean. As it is on the hill we took a taxi from the bus station so we didn't have to drag our suitcase all the way up there. Alternatively, take Ascensor Reina Victoria which takes you up right next to the entrance of the hotel.
Review 23:We didn't like having to leave! We could stay here forever!
Review 24:The location, property, and service were all exceptional! We experienced an earthquake while we were here, and Carlos went out of his way to ensure all the guests were safe and happy. He really saved the day. We couldn't have asked for more.
Review 25:No comments so far
Review 26:Great atmosphere. Amazing service..Perfect for young couples, friends or young spirited. The restaurant has some things to improve as a menu. They can do better ! but I have to say I try the best figs and chocolate desert ever!!!
Review 27:The only suggestion I would have would be to have a tea and coffee station available for guest use.
Review 28:Fantastic staff, yummy breakfast with an awesome view, super comfortable bed and an incredible shower - hot and great pressure! Great location - highly recommended
Review 29:only downside is you could hear the people walking on the above floors
Review 30:Great location for walking the streets, also close to great places to eat. Excellent help from the front desk on where to go.
Review 31:Rebecca and Carlos were amazing so helpful and friendly. They instantly made us feel at home. Location is perfect - right in The heart of Valparaiso. HOtel probably the best view with a cafe and bar serving great food. Don't look anywhere else just stay here you won't be sorry
Review 32:The temperature of the shower was virtually impossible to control and would seem to randomly swing from freezing to dangerously hot.
Review 33:The breakfast in particular was great, as well as the staff.
Review 34:The breakfast was a terrible experience. You sit in an area surrounded by all the dirty, unwashed glasses of the night before. People are coming and going, delivering food for lunch or generally trying to clean up the place. You have the impression that the staff have been up partying all night and have just woken up.
Review 35:As a business traveler, the only issue was not having an iron in the room, but after asking the front desk staff they promptly brought one to the room.
Review 36:The Fauna is fantastic. The rooms are nice and clean and all basics are included. The restaurant is delicious and the views are unbeatable. The staff at the restaurant and the front desk are very polite and helpful. Particularly Rebecca. They made excellent recommendations of what to see, where to eat, and even helped booking transport from Valpo to the airport in Santiago including a tour off the vineyards on the way. I have nothing but good things to say about the Fauna after my stay, definitely one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed at.
Review 37:Wifi didn't work in room. Hot water was hard to control. It swung between hot and cold.
Review 38:Super location. Lovely hotel and the restaurant on the roof is superb.
Review 39:Bad service at restaurant. Although the restaurant is very popular and busy, has the great view, the food was just average for the price. However, the real disappointment was some restaurant staff: slow, not polite and arrogant (senior ranking personnel). Such a big contrast to the nice hotel people. Luckily there are many restaurants around with really good food and nice service.
Review 40:The location of the hotel is great. Fantastic views from the restaurant terrace. The hotel staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. Modern, yet rustic clean room, comfortable bed. A decent breakfast was served on the deck of restaurant. There are many restaurants and bars in the area.
Review 41:Initial approach along a cobbled narrow alley - no vehicular access so hard to transfer luggage No lift ( but staff very helpful with luggage ) No wardrobes or safe
Review 42:Fabulous views from the terrace bar/restaurant Very helpful staff Excellent modern en suite Very close to one of the ascenseurs
Review 43:Travelers should expect to walk with their bags a short distance to the hotel. Walking is part of the Valpo experience. Also, no a/c, which was fine during visit in early April, when nights are cool. Could be uncomfortable in summer.
Review 44:Great location in funky Valparaiso with terrace and rooms overlooking bay on narrow pedestrian walkway on Cerro Allegre, the coolest and most colorful part of town. Hotel staff was young, courteous and very helpful. Restaraunt was great. Lots of action in the area.
Review 45:wifi didn't work in our room, but it was fine on the sofas in the lobby
Review 46:the room was clean and well decorated, the rooftop restaurant had great views and pretty good food, and the staff was friendly
Review 47:We unfortunately didn't have the best experience. We stayed an extra night, and as a result were moved to a better room. The room turned out to be under the restaurant and right next to the hotel entrance. When the chefs and bar staff finished their night shift, we would be woken by them leaving noisily. Furthermore the hotel entrance is not accessible, you need to buzz in. At 2am a guest was buzzing for 25 minutes. I suspect the night shift door staff fell asleep.glad someone did!!
Review 48:The location is fantastic!!
Review 49:Fauna Hotel and Restaurant is situated in an excellent location in Valparaiso just a short walk along the cobblestone pathway from Ascensor Reina Victoria in Cerro Conception. The hotel is modern rustic and staffed with enthusiastic, helpful people, who obviously enjoy working there. The views from the restaurant were magnificent as was the food and service. We thoroughly recommend Fauna Hotel.
Review 50:Chic, industrial look boutique hotel in a great location with a fantastic roof terrace restaurant/bar serving great food with stunning views over the colourful rooftops of Valparaiso. we ate dinner there both nights. there was nothing close to match the buzz and the view.
Review 51:Huge party in town that night. Sound carried up the hill to the hotel. Nothing the hotel could have done about that though. One piece of know about: You cannot get directly in front of the hotel with a car. The car is about 75 feet away and there is a short flight of stairs. If that is an issue for you due to mobility then it is something to consider.
Review 52:Wonderful hotel literally on the side of one of Valpo's hills, just steps from one of their famed elevators. Staff was very friendly. Restaurant in the hotel has outdoor seating and excellent food-try to charcutarie. Rooms have a separate sitting area and are very fun, with each being a little different. Would absolutely stay there again.
Review 53:Lots of stairs to get to rooms and restaurant. Staff were wonderful at helping with our bags so it wasn't really a problem.
Review 54:Everything! The breakfast was exceptional and was included with our room. The fauna theme was fun and we had a beautiful mural right out our window. Bed was comfortable and room very clean. Great stay! Highly recommended.
Review 55:While the location was fantastic, it was also very loud with the restaurant/bar onsite. In general though our biggest complaint is that it was so expensive, but that's thensame with anywhere in Valpo.
Review 56:Clean, newly renovated, gorgeous views, modern rooms, hot water... Really a great hotel
Review 57:Some comfort and conveniences such as no drinking water or air con or fan provided, sacrificed for design and architecture features in room.
Review 58:View over city and harbour. Proximity to lifts and bar and restaurants. Very good restaurant in hotel.
Review 59:Quite expensive but worth it.
Review 60:Very nice hotel with excellent location. Great restaurant (!) with terrace view of whole Valparaiso, although a bit expensive.
Review 61:I believe it is expensive for what you get. Paid A$200 p.n. which to us is a lot, especially with no amenities in the room except for bathroom ones. Took a long time to receive a drink from ordering which happened twice, so we decided not to eat there..
Review 62:The location of this hotel is fantastic & the view from the deck is great! The reception staff member was also great! He took his time to explain the city & how best to go about it. We took his advise & enjoyed the entire days walk.
Review 63:The restraunt attached to the hotel has great view but very poor service. Even when it's not that busy its hard to get a help and the food isn't that good for the price. Highly recommend just get a drink and enjoy the view.
Review 64:The hotel location and the view was excellent. Helpful staff and neat building!
Review 65:Nothing.
Review 66:We messed up with the dates of the booking but they fixed up for us without charging extra. I would literally hug the staff. It has great view and a great location. The building it's pretty modern but looks great. The breakfast it's served and pretty much "home made".
Review 67:Noise late at night, place locked up if you want to walk early (6am) some instructions had to be repeated 3 or more times
Review 68:Location, ambience, food, panoramic view and general vibe.
Review 69:Room are not isolated at all regarding noises (restaurant, reception, stairs, people talking, you hear everything from the room!). I recommend rooms not just under the restaurant / on same level as reception. Room 8 is a good compromise even if you still hear noises. Room 9 would be a good one too. The staff could smile a little more. They sometimes make you feel you are bothering them. The way they handle breakfast is fun (you don't choose what you eat) but would need to change a bit everyday then..
Review 70:Its style and location. The view from the room (especially number 8 9 13 and 14) and the restaurant terrace. Beautiful place.
Review 71:Our room No 10 was below ground opening to air shaft...very depressing and dim Overhead there was the clatter of feet fairly constantly, making a siesta after walking the hills impossible
Review 72:The great location at the top of an Ascensor and surrounded by very good restaurants Good breakfast on a great deck area Friendly staff Good space in room Quirky decor with great reclaimed materials
Review 73:Lots of stairs inside hotel. No TV.
Review 74:Position was excellent, in quaint old part of town, could walk everywhere and right beside the funicular to the waterfront. Restaurant had great views from rooftop.
Review 75:Noise, but it is hard to have it both ways (proximity to night life and calm), but it wasn't too bad.
Review 76:In the heart of town, great view and access to restaurants, day and night life.
Review 77:This hotel is an oasis of calm, style, and comfort in a chaotic city. Our room was on the lowest floor and even though there were a LOT of stairs, we thought it was great and the bed was THE most comfortable on our whole trip. We had appies and wine on the deck at the Fauna restaurant every afternoon and it was some of the best food on our trip.
Review 78:The noise (outside and inside) can be really unpleasant. The restaurant staff: too few people, slow, and the girl who attended us not very nice.
Review 79:Location, location, location. Great views, excelente bed. Breakfast was superb.
Review 80:Access a little difficult and parking not easy
Review 81:Simply the best views of Valparaiso from their stunning terrace. Located in the old town with great eating options nearby. Excellent value for money.
Review 82:Our room was cold, the heating was not warming enough. It got solved after the staff provided an electric heater in the room
Review 83:Very nice renovation job, keeping old motifs with modern materials and looks
Review 84:Our room didn't had windows with outside view. No elevator, Car Parking at walking distance from hotel but beware with many or heavy luggage.
Review 85:Stylish Hotel, very cosy. Excellent restaurant & bar with terrasse with a great view at the rooftop. Very friendly staff. Absolutely recomandable.
Review 86:The point that we prefer was the staff: they were very helpful and they went up our expectation. Our room 10 was very well decorated, authentic and romantic atmosphere. The included breakfast was good as well, very healthy and perfect to start a long visit day, but don't expect a buffet. The view of the restaurant was probably the best view in town.
Review 87:Terrace and View!
Review 88:Only one option for Breakfast, everyday the same.
Review 89:Location, design of Hotel
Review 90:The location, the restaurant/ bar, the interior, the staff.
Review 91:The hotel was a little noisy.
Review 92:Location...restaurant...staff/service
Review 93:nothing negative
Review 94:Excellent hotel, great breakfast, nice room, nice people and good location!
Review 95:Great location and very comfortable bed!! Staff were lovely and restaurant was very nice.
Review 96:Noise at night and early morning within hotel. No swimming pool.
Review 97:Location, design, staff, restaurant
Review 98:Bit expensive, but Chile is an expensive country
Review 99:Nice location and helpful staff
Review 100:Warm watter was not working in our room
Review 101:Location was awesome, breakfast great, design better
Review 102:no section in restuarant for only customers
Review 103:The location was perfect, right at the top of the Reina Victoria funicular with a gorgeous view of the city and the bay
Review 104:The walls are very thin and the hotel was very noisy.
Review 105:The location was fantastic, and the hotel restaurant was so wonderful.
Review 106:My room was a bit cold, I believe interior rooms need extra ventilation
Review 107:The staff attention, the views, the decoration, the location
Review 108:Very cool hotel building built into the cliff, very nice and helpful staff, great breakfasts, good location in Valparaiso.
Review 109:Decor, wonderful staff at the front desk The best towels ever
Review 110:Start with ambiance, location and staff! Then go to great view and extra services such as arranging transport to and from Santiago.
Review 111:No complaints
Review 112:Missed the first night of my three night reservation yet they were understanding and dropped the charges for the no show. Thanks
Review 113:nothing...it is perfect
Review 114:This boutique hotel is well located, well designed, intimate, great staff, awesome views.
Review 115:No TV in room. Nothing free wifi and an iPad couldn't overcome though
Review 116:Amazing architecture . Most comfortable bed in Chile.
Review 117:hermoso hotel, con habitaciones acogedoras y personal muy atento. Hermosa locación
Review 118:Great view, incredibly comfortable bed and terrific staff. It's right in the middle of everything.
Review 119:The hotel is beautiful with very interesting architecture. The best part of our stay was the staff, in particular Rebecca.
Review 120:Very very cold in restaurant for dinner Given blankets on 2nd night
Review 121:Wonderful Terrace fir lunch
Review 122:The staff in frontdesk was very gentle, same as the guy who attend the first day at breakfast.
Review 123:Terrific location with great views. Staff was so nice and helpful. lively restaurant on premises.
Review 124:Small cheap curtains which weren't big enough to cover the windows.
Review 125:Bestshower in a hotel. EVER.
Review 126:Location is great and I loved the urban, eco-friendly, chic style of the hotel. Eat your breakfast late enough and there's no need for lunch!
