Reviews for Tigh-Na-Mara Resort & Conference Centre

Review 1:Smoke detector went off twice. First time after lighting two candles. Second time after boiling kettle for tea

Review 2:The staff brought us suitcase caddy when we asked for it and they had maintenance come as soon as the smoke detector went off, arriving promptly.

Review 3:The lady who checked us in had such a straight face. Too bad, that first impression mattered a lot. Also, we requested three times, eventually nobody came to change our towel the second night.

Review 4:Location and facilities. Nice long beach, breathtaking view.

Review 5:That all the bookings for the restaurant were filled on Christmas Day - I would not return on Christmas again.

Review 6:Spa, restaurant, gift shop and pool on site.

Review 7:kitchen lacked utensils and a good size coffee mug Could not get into the spa for treatments and was turned away as guest of the hotel to even use the mineral pool due to high volumes of booking - very disappointed as the spa is one of the major draws to staying there.

Review 8:Beach and the log fireplace

Review 9:On last night, our room was unusually warm with all heat sources turned off.

Review 10:Quiet, relaxing, nice beach access, natural especially the log cabin and log lodge

Review 11:Kitchen not well stocked with tools. Missing were basics such as salt and pepper in decent quantity (just the tiny packets) and a cutting board.

Review 12:Greato action. Lots of room. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 13:The spa tub and surround were dirty. Things like that should be spotless...no hair or dirt in the tub. I don't go somewhere else to have to clean the tub before I can use it!

Review 14:I wish the resort would allow guests to check in earlier than 4:00 pm and not to be so inflexible about the 11:00 am checkout time. We showed up at 2:00 pm and had to wait, until 4:00 even though the room was ready for us. And we weren't allowed to stay past 11:00 am when we asked for a late checkout, so all in all, we hardly had use of our room. Gorgeous room....too bad we hardly spent any time in it (especially after paying $250 a night for stunning suite).

Review 15:Gorgeous triple wide apartment with two fireplaces (living room and bedroom), kitchen with dishwasher, comfy sofas, three flat screen TVs, king-size beds, oak dining room table and six chairs, two decks with patio furniture, two hot tubs. Food in the restaurant is superb, and there is nightly live entertainment. When the tide goes out, there are hundreds of oysters. Quite amazing. Better than Tigh-an-Mara, which is right across the bay. I would return here. The setting is stunning, and it is only a short five minute drive to Parksville.

Review 16:Based on the website I thought the room would be a bit nicer. Lamp was not functional, some light bulbs were burned out...carpet was not very clean...screen door need lubricating...WiFi was weak

Review 17:The view was great. Watch 5 Orca's in the Salish Sea with binoculars.

Review 18:Cabins are very average but expensive...need updating and are not very private (close together and right on the road). Carpets were very dirty/ripped in condo and conference room (where we attended a wedding reception).

Review 19:Location (on Rathtrevor Beach)

Review 20:The supper at Cedars was not good, my husband couldn't eat his meal. When I booked on line I thought I had booked a room with jacuzzi in bedroom and there was nothing there, the tappas was just ok, nothing to really rave about. We won't be recommending or staying here again.

Review 21:The Mineral pool was nice, but expensive

Review 22:The property is showing its age. A small face lift might be helpful.

Review 23:Great place with a fantastic view. Very comfortable with nice furnishings and decor.

Review 24:Everyone smoking on balconies stopped us from being able to use ours. Had to keep patio doors closed and it was hot out. Cleaning was awful. Swept shards of glass onto the carpet and didn't even vacuum. I have small toddlers. I had to phone before someone came to vacuum. Noisy every night....there were a couple weddings

Review 25:Paid an awful lot for a room without any patio or sunlight through windows. Kind of a dumpy room for the price. Wanted to try out the grotto with my husband but no spa item he wanted to book. Would be nice to include the grotto with the room.

Review 26:No air conditioning. One bigger meeting room looked worn-needed new flooring.

Review 27:Forest setting. Private access to beautiful, clean ocean. Cabin in the woods and west coast atmosphere. Quiet, and off main highway.

Review 28:couch was super soft. sank away in the cushions not giving much support, unless you like to slouch

Review 29:awesome view from third floor right on the ocean. Didn't use any of the facilities so I cant comment on any of these

Review 30:The place is totally enclosed by trees so if you want no light into your apt fine. We moved to an ocean view to get some light but even this was facing too far north- approx n - nw aspect, so light from east at circa 5 am & then shadow! Dining experience at cedars not good- the waiter added our wine to our water glasses! Need to reflect on each room & sees what's on offer

Review 31:Beside the beach - but not able to sit outside our apt!

Review 32:Being with our family together for a short vacation in a glorious seaside setting. The beaches are fantastic. Our cabin was ideal for four of us plus one toddler.

Review 33:We enjoyed the hotel grounds, with access to the beach (which was spectacular). The pool and hot tub were great as they were not crowded even though we were there on a weekend. Our ground floor room was well appointed, and we could sit out on the deck. We had meals in the lounge and restaurant and were more than satisfied with the food and service. As well we could do our own breakfast and sandwiches for our golf in the galley.

Review 34:the restaurant the food was not up to our expectations plus the wine we order was not available and the waitress gave us a more expensive wine and didn't tell us and charge us

Review 35:We like having the cabins as there was 8 of us in 3 cabins

Review 36:The Jedehia room not so much. We've stayed in way better, for lot less! Was expecting more for this resort.

Review 37:The atmosphere and the location were fantastic

Review 38:No queen size bed as advertised Not comfortable in general Obviously heavily marked up charcoal briquettes for the use of their BBQ Animals living in crawl space keeping us awake Pricey for the limited comfort

Review 39:Very clean tidy resort Beautiful beach Very quiet Family and dog friendly

Review 40:The amount of the taxes. High! (Room rates should be quoted with all taxes included) Why not give some discount to those who stay for 3 nights or more?

Review 41:The quiet. The location close to the ocean and a superb beach. The setting of units within a wooded area. The well kept site. Tidy . Neat. The hot tub....clean and "hot"

Review 42:The lighting in the ocean front room was very very bad - upgrade the lighting and it would be perfect. Change light bulbs to softer light si they don't burn your eyes out and the dimmer should work like a dimmer not blazing and off

Review 43:Staff were amazing!

Review 44:The Dip and Dine was a wonderful group experience. The cottages were well equipped for a group trip. Staff was very friendly and helpful both before in the planning and arranging trip for 11 people and upon arrival.

Review 45:The location is great - very near Rathtrevor Park for a nice walk on the beach. Good pool & hot tub. Complete kitchen was a nice bonus. Dinner in the dining room was very nice. Only stayed one night so not much else to report.

Review 46:Saturday morning early the housekeeping staff were so noisy in the next room it woke us up. Loud voices and banging around enough to ensure that I wasn't going back to sleep anytime soon. I understand the need to clean early but please do it bearing in mind there are people sleeping on vacation in the next room. This was around 8 A.M. The spa front desk staff made us feel that we were intruding. There were 3 girls at the front desk, I asked to show my husband the Grotto Spa because although I had been before he had not. They said they weren't having a tour right then, which was alright we weren't going in until the next day anyway. We went the next morning and there again 3 girls. One spoke to us. We asked to go into the Grotto Spa, I had my room keys in my hand and she asked in a surpised voice" You are guests here ?" We were in our beach walking attire, hoodies and jeans but I guess to them we must have looked like street people. We went into the pool and enjoyed that very much, that being said there were several times that the staff brought through people to show them the spa, making us wonder why we couldn't look at it the day before when we arrived. Our intention when we booked our stay was to have massages and spa services, maybe have appies and drinks to make a day of it. We were offered nothing, I had to ask for a spa menu. We felt that we were intruding again. My husband was waiting for me to get dressed in the lobby, he felt so uncomfortable he couldn't wait to get out of there. These girls couldn't know if we were there to spend 40 $ or 1400$, in either case, don't we deserve to be treated like welcome guests? I was looking to purchase some of the Deserving Thyme products as I had used them before, but none of the 3 girls behind the counter even looked my way to ask me if I needed anything so I didn't bother. My husband couldn't wait to get out of there.

Review 47:First I would like to say the front desk staff are great and very helpful and informative. They made us feel very welcome. The restaurant was great, food excellent. Our server David was very professional and welcoming. Our room was nice and we enjoyed the peace and quiet...until....

Review 48:Oceanview accommodation - "tired", desperate need for renovation/modernization Unfit for the price point

Review 49:Staff - Excellent Accommodation Supervisor - response to complaint re substandard accommodation - excellent

Review 50:Service in the lounge and restaurant was quite slow. I can appreciate it being busy however even our server apologized for the slow dinner service.

Review 51:The view and rooms are wonderful.

Review 52:We went for dinner and were told we had to wait for a table in the lounge, where we were almost completely ignored by our server... I had go get our menus myself and weren't served drinks for half an hour, It took over an hour afterward to get our seafood fondue and popcorn shrimp. The shrimp were great but the fondue was disgusting. At no point our server asked how everything was or informed us that a table was open in the dining room. I had to go to the hostess to settle our bill (without going for a main course), tipped her well with the instruction not to share it with our server since she had to put up with many similar complaints about the service from angrier people before us.

Review 53:Loved the log cabin style of the room and furnishings. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the front desk staff.

Review 54:main restaurant not so good. We wanted to share the experience we had in the past with our guests, very disappointed this time. BUT the tapas restaurant was a food experience!!!! Loved it! Futon/couch, sitting at the fireplace uncomfortable.

Review 55:comfortable beds, fireplace, spa privacy, location

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:A lovely one bedroom unit overlooking the bay. Staff allowed an early check-in as our unit was ready. Friendly, cheerful staff. Enjoyed watching the tide retreat hundreds of metres into the bay and the thousands of seabirds feeding at low tide.

Review 58:The fact we were infested by bees(327A) and our wifi wasn't working so we were told WE had to call Shaw and that was over an hr on the phone. Not impressed.

Review 59:We love the beach. Also enjoyed going to the lounge.

Review 60:Original room was not good...very motel like Not good enough for money and resort name...but upgrade was fabulous

Review 61:The ocean front rooms spectacular view made our stay.....we also had a great dinner and mineral dip ..all great

Review 62:The summer has been a hot one and I was really surprised how hot the room was even with sliding glass doors open and fans on. Never had a problem with the heat before but it was difficult to sleep. Much more comfortable when it is cooler out.

Review 63:We have been coming here for years. Love the location.

Review 64:Was not impressed with the food. My husband ordered the pepper steak which was a little tough and lacked flavour. I ordered the portobello stuffed with quinoa and it also lacked flavour and the presentation was poor. I would not have served that meal to guests in my home. I also thought the restaurant needed a face lift it is very drab.

Review 65:I loved the location, it is very peaceful and our little bungalow was great. The staff was great and I appreciated how clean our bungalow was. I would come back.

Review 66:Absolutely nothing

Review 67:We came to have a getaway few days from hustle and bustle of downtownvictoria and we were presented with a perfect location, no noise andrestful. The cabins reminded us of center parcs in uk, but by the sea, also we were halfway up the island within easy reach of cathedral grovewhich we had to see.

Review 68:I feel that the staff could have been more friendly considering it's a more expensive resort. Just a "are you enjoying your visit?'' Upon checkout we had some issues with our airmiles certificate and the recepitionist basically said we couldn't use it - sorry. I had to ask to speak to the manager after some discussion. She didn't put any effort into resolving my issue and I wasn't going to come back if I lost out on our $400 certificate. Fortunately the manager did resolve it and we will definitely be back.

Review 69:loved our Oceanside view and the kitchette - everything you need was there. The kitchen was very clean. It was also really nice to have a fire pit and chairs all set up right by the ocean.

Review 93:Patio of restaurant not allowed with kids.

Review 94:Very comfortable and well designed rooms.

Review 95:Peaceful and relaxing What we came for

Review 96:The resort is a bit dated and the room needs upgrading. Definitely not what I expect of a 4 star resort.

Review 97:The location is great

Review 98:the room was excellent, lots of room , looking over the ocean, perfect with two young children

Review 99:Stated in a 2 bed cottage they brought us a charcoal BBQ which we used. Great beach great facilities.

Review 102:The lodges

Review 104:The view is amazing

Review 105:Great location, very comfortable beds.

Review 106:Went with my son and his family, 3 girls 6 and under. Lots for them to explore and to do. We all loved it.

Review 119:The Cedar fine dining lounge turned into a sports bar and pub. The sauna could be turned on and hotter.

Review 120:t It was peaceful and quiet surroundings

Review 121:not what we expected. no better than a cheap motel room. dark, dreary room, no view. not near the oceanside. complete waste of money.

Review 122:Loved the kitchen and facilities to cook our own meals.

Review 123:5 of us had the duck which didn't have any flavour. There was no presentation. They gave us a more expensive wine than we ordered.
