Reviews for Hotel Eden Palace au Lac

Review 1:This is the third time that we've booked this hotel because it's central location, the nice breakfast and the good and friendly service and atmosphere.

Review 2:Breakfast was very bad for the price we paid... no service at all, no egg station, stale cold cuts, no ambience.

Review 3:View from the room was amazing and location is fantastic.

Review 4:Winter, so bar is only open in the evening, not too serious though unless it's raining.

Review 5:Lake view room great. Can control room radiator unlike some overhot hotels.

Review 6:No tea or coffee making facilities in room

Review 7:Lovely views from room which was quiet with very comfortable beds. Ideal position for walking along the lakeside in Montreux

Review 8:Many years I was dreaming about staying in a nice old-styled hotel-palace on Montreux riviera. Finally I have decided that I deserve it. The hotel is gorgeous. The atmosphere is what I was looking for. I felt like travelling back in time to the end of 19th century when many noble persons from Russian aristocracy stayed in such hotels and I felt like being a part of it. Some people state that 'the furniture is old'. Come on, this is ridiculous. The furniture is original and what is supposed to be and still the whole hotel is very elegant and stylish without any exaggeration. Waking up in the morning and seeing how sunrise is changing the colors of Lac Leman and Alps is priceless. Hotel staff is very helpful. Thanks to the reception guy who has recommended the best trail in my life in Lutry area while all vineyards were covered by yellow and red colors. Breakfast is delicious with wonderful views over the lake and the service is so good that these breakfasts were much better than most of the dinners in glam restaurants. Can't wait to get back again.

Review 9:Lobby is in need of updating. Lobby, hallways and my room had worn and stained carpet and upholstered furniture. Hotel info says it's a short walk to the train station -- not true!

Review 10:Wonderful location next to the lake. Extremely helpful staff including reception, breakfast staff, housekeeping. Breakfast includes big buffet and great view of the lake and mountains.

Review 11:No coffee or kettle, though staff happy to provide teapot of hot water.

Review 12:Great location at lake's edge with spectacular view of lake, and close to restaurants, shops and supermarket. Friendly and obliging staff. Junior suite roomy and comfortable with balcony overlooking lake.

Review 13:Fantastic views from rooms, friendly hotel staff and even a free birthday drink of Moet just from spotting the date on my passport. Fantastic hotel, great location and great breakfast choice. Would highly recommend.

Review 14:Breakfast chf 23.- per person is ridiculous.

Review 15:Very friendly staff. Very big room. Long gone time atmosphere, like a time capsule back to the belle epoque. Quite charming but old. Very very clean! Location by the lake is a dream!

Review 16:There was a Chinese tour group and they sat on our table while we went to get some more from breakfast buffet, although our table was not marked with their tour group's name.

Review 17:Great view of lake leman, friendly staffs, fantastically maintain their classic facility from old times. Their restaurant for breakfast and floor corridors are really beautiful.

Review 18:The restaurant appeared over-priced; but the longer we were in Switzerland, the more we came to realize that it was probably reasonable. We did not eat there.

Review 19:The location and the sense of history of the hotel were wonderful. We appreciated having on-site parking, although you pay extra for it. The staff were accomodating.

Review 20:The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the free public transport card provided was awesome. Our room had a wonderful view over Lake Geneva and was perfectly situated by the lake close to many attractions.

Review 21:You have access to Wi-Fi internet in the room, however, the connection is very slow, is limited and sometimes disrupted. I was in the room number 124, facing the lake, however, you can not see the lake given the fact that the vision is blocked by a kind of a roof on the balcony. I was extremely unhappy (or unlucky) with the washroom. The toilet cover was constantly falling down/closing, so it was constantly on my back when sitting and trying to do things; as you can imagine, you are not able to do things standing if you are a man. The soap was in a malfunctioning container next to the washing basin, so it was impossible to use it. The shower pipe was leaking. Perhaps minor matters, but still not what would you expect from a five star hotel.

Review 22:Staff at the reception was pleasant, ready to assist and to provide additional information in different languages. The location of the hotel is perfect and the room was very big.

Review 23:It's true that the hallway and the outside facing the lake could use a new paint job, but other than that it was great.

Review 24:The location and setting of this hotel is incredible. We took a ton of pics of the lake Geneva and were just mesmerized by the beauty. The hotel is in the center of everything, has a popular and very nice restaurant in the lobby. Check in was easy, and we had to wait a few minutes so were given champagne while waiting in the picturesque lobby. The room was very large, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was large and had a lot of marble, and even had it's own view of the lake. Our room had two balconies and we enjoyed having coffee, wine, water, whatever we could think of to have on the balcony because it was so incredible. This is the best room I've stayed in in Europe in the 5 times I've visited. The room in the cities before and after Montreux were 1/3 the size. We loved it and I would come back again only if I could stay at this hotel.

Review 25:Requested quiet room but corner was on street junction so outside noise early morning. Noisy guests (large families) slamming doors and screaming until midnight - some hanging washing over balconies turning place into more of a package holiday hangout than Belle Époque elegance!

Review 26:Location right on lake front in centre of Montreux, friendly helpful staff, room (large double corner large balcony but not really the suite we'd paid for)

Review 27:Breakfast too espensive! Tattered awnings on balcony embarrassing for hotel of this quality.

Review 28:Very comfortable rooms! Except for one woman in front desk all staff were exceptionally helpful.

Review 29:Noisy room skip below our window ,workmen working outside on roof early one morning. Just poor timing. Hotel felt that it was end of season .

Review 30:Loved faded charm, lovely location. Staff helpful.

Review 31:No view from our room. Asked on check - in if we would like an upgrade to a room with view (of course we would!) but then we were told it would cost extra!! A bit tacky!!

Review 32:Lovely old hotel with very spacious room and bathroom. Located on waterfront.

Review 33:My wife was disappointed that tea making facility was unavailable in room. Advised on leaving we could have ordered from reception.

Review 34:the location and the staff were very helpful

Review 35:The staff of the hotel is not very frindly and because of the rush maybe during summer it's difficult to get the facilities like iron ,extra bed . Also the breakfast is very poor especially for us as muslims the varity was for meats and pork .

Review 36:The location is perfect near to many restaurants ,supermarkets, pharmacy and the view is amazing

Review 37:The rooms at the back of the hotel facing the city are really of a very poor standard! The rooms look tired, they need urgent refurbishment. Windows, air conditioning units, blinds, bathroom equipment all need to be fixed or replaced! Towels, bed linen, pool towels all need replacing! The carpet in the corridors is stained everywhere! Wi-fi connection is terrible throughout the hotel! The food is also very poor in the restaurant and on the terrace! Breakfast is ok. The hotel is completely under staffed!

Review 38:The location is excellent! The garden is very nice, the pool is tiny and accessible by all members of the public so it's really a public pool. Shame...as it could be very nice!

Review 39:Didn't know about the pool and only found out on the last day that it was on the other side...

Review 40:Clean, quiet and comfortable hotel, spacious room and facilities in good conditions.

Review 41:nothing

Review 42:This hotel has a glorious location right in the lake (no intervening roadway). Spoil yourself with a room with a balcony looking up toward Mont Blanc. Its a grand, spacious place, very nicely restored - and the addition of room service since my last stay is a big plus. The lake-side eating areas are a delight. Surroundings are quiet. The people at reception were friendly and helpful. I shall certainly stay here again

Review 43:The hotel is completely under staffed! The staff is very nice but the hotel needs much more staff in every department. The staff is complaining about it to the customers! Food/ restaurant/bar/coffee/terrace all need serious improvement! It's all very average! Carpet in the reception area, on the stairs & in the common parts needs to be changed, some refurbishment is also necessary throughout the hotel!

Review 44:The location is fantastic, swimming pool area is lovely with spectacular views. Rooms are spacious with lovely balconies and wonderful views on the lake..

Review 45:Breakfast average but there is McDonald's next very close to the hotel which is great to bring back to the room and enjoy breakfast on the balcony with the beautiful view!

Review 46:The view from the room of the lake is breathtaking this being the main reason for us staying here and having a balcony to enjoy the view.

Review 47:The hotel is run down and in very poor shape. They rented me a garage for 25CHF. The next day, the door did not open. My wite had to take a cab to the railway station and I had to arrange transport to my meetings - and gi back there to get my car. But the worst: the staff behaved as it was not their problem.

Review 48:The view is phantastic. That's it. I used to love the place, visited it for 20 years.

Review 49:Nothing negative to say

Review 50:The view was amazing, the room was large & very comfortable. 2 lifts which eased congestion. Nice big, clean Lobby. Lovely small pool in the grounds & a lovely cafe attached too

Review 51:Beautiful lakeside setting & the lovely decor of the hotel matched the era of the building very well .Very convenient to town & ferry wharf. Travel card was a bonus especially for our train trip to Les Rochers de Naye.

Review 52:terrace restaurant was average - only possible to sit near the trolleys used to serve from, quite limited menu, service seemed a good bit understaffed this is a personal thing on my side - pervading scented candle smell in the hotel

Review 53:kind staff at reception, nice lake view

Review 54:I didn't like how there was no tea, coffee facilities in the rooms. We paid nearly $900 for 2 nights and this is something that should be there. Going down stairs to make it is inconvienant and a really silly idea. Also, because of this we had no tea spoons in the room if we wanted to enjoy a yoghurt and when we called we were told that we had to come down and get it from the dinning room. The carpet in the place also needs re-laying. It was old, ripped and dirty.

Review 55:Reception staff were friendly and it was close to everything we needed

Review 56:My wife and I were guests at your hotel this past Monday, July 6th and Imust say while your staff was delightful we were very disappointed inthe facility for the following reasons: No Air Conditioning – While Iunderstand that it is not often that Montreux experiences the type ofheat and humidity we experienced while we were there, we learned thatthe only rooms that have a/c are on the lakeside (which were notavailable) yet this information is not provided on your Booking.comlisting which is how we booked your hotel. According to the Booking.comlisting: "All rooms are spacious” but our room was not.&Quot;Guests enjoy a free welcome cocktail” - never happened, not thatit really mattered Towels while clean were worn-out Carpet on the stairsfrom the ground to the first floor was torn and unsafe, plus carpetswere stained just about everywhere poor security – we returned to thehotel around midnight and when we asked for our key it was handed to uswithout asking us to identify ourselves. Not a very safe feeling!!!

Review 57:Good location, wonderful staff

Review 58:Rooms a bit tired, in comparison to the Suisse majestic (which cost me the same price and star rating) well there is no comparison - the Suisse majestic is more like a 5 star and Eden palace 3 stars

Review 59:Friendly staff, location, views from balcony

Review 60:Stayed 2 nights. It was very hot in a sense that it was impossible to breathe. I asked to have a fan or portable AC as it was advertised on the site - no success. My windows were to the street not lake which was fine. The fridge with the mini-bar didn't work. Did notify the reception and the cleaning lady - nothing but they were very nice. Not worth the money. I do understand that during Jazz Fest prices go up but still it was not a 4*-like. Will not come back, will not recommend.

Review 61:Location is excellent. Close to the beautiful lake Geneva.

Review 62:- unclean bathroom - extremely noisy - old and broken furniture - receptionist scared to call kitchen. Had to do it for her at the reception. Kitchen closes at 10 pm. Almost had to threaten the personnel to get a tomato/mozarella salad for 50 CHF - receptionist talking foreign languages while registering customer - no breakfast on terrace

Review 63:A free guest card was available giving free local transport over about 10 miles and providing other concessions. It was not mentioned at all by reception and but fortunately I somehow knew about it. It was provided promptly on request.

Review 64:Perfect location with lawns and restaurant and many rooms overlooking Lake Geneva. A slight atmosphere of faded glory but still quite glorious. Rooms not expensive for such a prime spot.

Review 65:Can do better with junior suite which didn't look like a suite And rooms where very small

Review 66:The best thing was that they upgraded me for free to a junior suite without any supplement

Review 67:Was given an upgrade unexpectedly when we arrived. A lake view room and the location of the hotel is perfect. Easily commute to public transport. Only a short stroll from train station. Restaurants and shops are just around the corner. A highly recommended hotel in Montreux.

Review 68:I think tea and coffee facilities in the room would be an added feature and welcome for most guests after spending a day out sightseeing etc .

Review 69:the location and friendliness of the staff was really good and the availability of Wi Fi was a good touch

Review 70:I would probably stay here agin for the location, but the hotel could use a refurbishment. The carpeting and furniture is worn, and the small room air conditioner couldn't manage the 80 degree heat.

Review 71:Great location directly on Lake the Lake Geneva waterfront with fabulous views and fun people watching on the lakeside promenade.

Review 72:Wifi connection could have been a little bit better, maybe it was because we had a corner room.

Review 73:Friendly and helpful staff. It was nice with a pool even though it was small. Good location by the lake and with a room facing the lake with balcony it couldn't have been better.

Review 74:Not really a hotel for families, few facilities for this, the shower leaked water all over the floor, about 4 people knocked on our door trying to get in, it appears you needed to ask for a lake view, beware you have to go up/down flights of stairs from the train station or find the elevators, not easy!

Review 75:Greeted with a personalised message, front desk staff were exceptionally helpful, room was spacious enough for a family, breakfast bag was organised on request for early departure, fabulous location for the castle, MIGROS close by

Review 76:The room was quite warm during the night even with the windows open, as it was only May this might be a problem during the summer months!

Review 77:Good size room, clean and tidy. Breakfast was good with a great selection of different types of food, cereal, cooked, cold, fruit and the bread was superb. The staff were very helpful and immaculately dressed.

Review 78:Hotel and rooms have seen better times and are in need of renovation. But that will hike up the price to the likes of the Montreux Palace Hotel.

Review 79:Great location, lake side and easy access to town. Quiet. Beautiful old hotel with comfortable rooms, but it is sad and tired. Price is ok though, renovation would make it very expensive. Would not class as 4 star.

Review 80:The bedroom although large lacked character. The carpets in areas were marked and tired. The railings on the balcony need maintained.

Review 81:The views from our lake view room were exceptional. We had breakfast included and all the usual choices were available. The staff were friendly.

Review 82:The location is absolutely amazing- you step out into the lake side promenade with breathtaking views of Lac Leman. The restaurant is good value for lunch.

Review 83:Not to take anything away from our stay but the hotel needs a good coat of paint inside and out. Time for maintenance & repairs.

Review 84:The staff were extremely helpful with a bit of spunk to their personality. Great location, great breakfast and restaurant for evening meal.

Review 85:Rooms are a little old, but our bathroom was magnificent. Beware that this is Europe and they give you two single beds pushed together to make a double / queen. Not sure I enjoy paying for a double room when in reality it is a twin which is cheaper??

Review 86:The views, the lobby was lovely and the facility was so conveniently located

Review 87:I liked everything, nothing to criticize. :)

Review 88:I checked in 27/02 and enjoyed stay in a hotel during 2 nights. That was a low season, hotel was pretty quite, but full of lights and smiles of the staff. The room was pretty stylish, with a lake view. The all hotel is renovated with a lot of test, elegant, white color, a lot of orchids (which just emphasizes the refined style). Two dinners and two breakfast, which I had in a hotel were perfect! The both restaurants are very classy, and more suit for 5* hotel. I really recommend this hotel to the tourists. It is a balance of not high price and a high quality service. Larisa Brinkerhoff

Review 89:The rooms need some renovations, but overall its clean

Review 90:Location is amazing, the balconies are the biggest benefit of the hotel. The staff was kind and helpful. A great place to stay!

Review 91:The whole hotel looks very old and it seems like the renovation was done in the last century. The whole furniture is very dirty and full of strange spots. The beds are small and do not suit the Swiss 4 start hotel. The new tv is available not in all the rooms and 50 out of 80 channels are in French only.

Review 92:The girls at the reception were very nice and helped with any question. The confiture for breakfast was extremely tasty, especially the blueberry one. You could bake your own wafles and the patisserie was fresh.

Review 93:The poor isolation of the window and old heating system made the room very cold. A door communicating with the neighbor room let cigarette smoke come into my room. This is unacceptable for a 4 star hotel, or any hotel anyway. At the reception, many guests were complaining about the temperatures in the room. I am happy pictures of the room if you are interested. I originally planned to stay 3 nights but checked out right after this horrible and cold night.

Review 94:The view lake Geneva

Review 95:There where only a few guests, otherwise it maybe noisy with wooden floors all over the place.

Review 96:Location Comfort Beautiful view on the lac, sunny balcony and a nice spacious room.

Review 97:A little bit dated, especially in the lobby area.

Review 98:Lovely hotel, right on the waterfront. Very close to the shops and Christmas markets. Easy walk to the train station.

Review 99:No kettle in the room but could really have done with one.

Review 100:Great location on lake front. We got upgraded to lake view room at no extra charge which was amazing. Very comfortable beds. Helpful and friendly staff. When we arrived wifi was not working so hotel gave us another code to use.

Review 101:A very run down hotel which needs some serious refurbishment. Has all the potential of becoming a real jewel but sadly enough has been left unattended.

Review 102:Great location of the hotel and very friendly staff.

Review 103:We were in a family room which was facing the street which made sleeping not easy due to constant noise from cars driving, slamming doors and loud conversations.

Review 104:Staff were polite and helpful. Location is excellent! Good hearty breakfast and spacious rooms with clean bathrooms.

Review 105:No tea or coffee making facilites in the room. The bathroom was long and narrow so a bit tight to walk past each other. The bath was very deep so not easy to climb in or out of as there were no grip handles. The room was very spacious but drastically in need of some tender loving care as it was very bland and needed an injection of colour. The walls were just a bland (dirty) white, as was the bathroom.

Review 106:The start of the Christmas market is literally on the hotel doorstep. You are already at one end of the market. The hotel parking is Chf 25 for 24 hours and you must reserve your place with the booking. This is essential as the Christmas market is so popular it is extremely difficult to find a parking spot (as we found out the previous year, hence we decided to stay overnight in Montreux this year to profit from a car space). The location of the hotel is literally on the shore of lac Leman so the walks along the promonade are also right on the hotel's doorstep and the view from our room was spectacular. We received a packet of complimentary biscuits and a bottle of water - both very welcome! A very big flat screen TV with a few English channels. Nice buffet breakfast at chf 25 per person.

Review 107:While walking inside the room, you could hear always shuttering sound of the safe inside the cupboard. That sound was the only disturbance.

Review 108:Jr. Suit room was very spacious. Room was nicely heated.

Review 109:Breakfast was only average, I'd expect the oranges/grapefruits to be fully peeled in a fruit salad, scrambled egg in a milk?!?, tomatoes not the freshest …. in general, they were trying to save on a wrong places

Review 110:location, atmosphere, room size, cleanliness

Review 111:Needed more pillows

Review 112:Very pretty hotel in great location on the lake - awesome views of the alps! Staff were friendly and the breakfast was very nice and plentiful!

Review 113:The room looks more like motel. Floor is full of burns from cigarets and level of cleanness was the worst I ever experience. Free WiFi internet could be considered terrible but the network signal was so bad that it did not even connect. For this problem I was told that my device has a problem. However I tried from smartphone, Iphone, Ipad, and macbook therefore it is fold of Apple and Samsung in perception of hotel workers. Breakfast is on the level of bad fast food and outlet does not even have coffee. Service? "If you want service go to 5 star hotel and they will smile for you" - reception worker.

Review 114:The receptionist forgot to charge for minibar at check out I can consider it as benefit from the guest point of view.

Review 115:Inside of hotel needs some serious renovation... Needs money spent so inside compliments the outside.. Must have been renovated in the 70's ... And was not done in a period style...has heaps of potential... Overpriced for what is on offer.

Review 116:Location and position was great next to the lake shore... Lovely old period building...staff great and doing the best with what they have to work with Walking distance from train station.

Review 117:Requested double bed but had twin beds pushed together with singles duvets!

Review 118:Location amazing. View from our room of the lake was simply stunning. Staff extremely helpful and ultra polite and personable. Close to everything but away from the main road so extremely quiet. Highly recommended!

Review 119:Very disappointed on arrival. Hotel is jaded and needs so much work done. Would have been amazing in it's day but not now. Were given a small room up near the roof and some noisy machinery. Perhaps central heating plant?? Were then moved to nicer room.

Review 120:Location View Guy on reception Canoula ? Sorry if spelling is wrong. He was always pleasant friendly and helpful

Review 121:the reception, no help with luggage, slightly agee, the bathroom.

Review 122:the location, the view with balcony right on the lake, the architecture, the spacious room.

Review 123:Staff was amazing. From restaurant recommendations and reservations to sightseeing venues, they wanted to make sure we were well served and happy. Loved the staff!!!! Location is super convenient. Montreux is a friendly town.

Review 124:Would have prefered a lakeside room as the noise from the street woke us up a few times. also love the minibar provided but would have liked tea/coffee facilities in the room

Review 125:Closeness to the Freddie Mercury Memorial and Queen The Studio Experience. Hotel was smart, clean with friendly staff and we felt very well looked after.

Review 126:The whole hotel could do with a facelift. Worn & dirty carpets and the paintwork shoddy

Review 127:The rooms excellent and the reception staff so friendly. Good breakfast choice.

Review 128:I would not recommend eating at this hotel as the breakfast was very poor.

Review 129:We liked the staff at the hotel reception who were very helpful. The hotel is beautiful but very dated and needs upgrading. I would stay in this hotel again but I would have breakfast at a nearby restaurant.

Review 130:Some of the furniture is a bit chipped, the rugs in the halls are a bit dirty, and the paint outside on the top floor could use renewal. The balcony furniture is also cheap (plastic chairs)

Review 131:The balcony and amazing view. The old style furniture and atmosphere. The central location.

Review 132:Everything! The hotel is right on the lake! Central to the city, station and shopping!! Rooms are spacious with a balcony! Ask for lake view room as the other side is horrible! Easy to unload as off main road and easy to find! Heaps to do and the hotel gives you a discount card to get half price on a lot of rides and exhibitions! Very pleased with stay but not long enough as there is so much yo do!!

Review 133:The building of hotel is a bit old and I could hear the noise from other rooms. number of staffs are very limited, i had a difficulty to get a baby chair at a restaurant.

Review 134:Great location, great view.

Review 135:The hotel has limited parking facilities but there is a car park close by.

Review 136:The hotel is well located on the lake and in the centre of Montreux. The staff were very helpful and the service was excellent. The restaurant and room service are good. Rooms were comfortable and spacious.

Review 137:Rooms are VERY dated (even the 'renovated rooms') had very old carpet, curtains, bed and bathroom and only thing that was new was paint, which smelled so bad that I could not sleep and had to keep window open all night.

Review 138:Location, staff.

Review 139:When booking the room, we booked a deluxe room with a lake view. On checking into the room, we found that we had a lake view but the room was anything but deluxe. There was a portable air conditioner, with tubing going out through the balcony door which was not only unsightly and cumbersome but it also blocked access to the small balcony. On checking Booking.com website we found that deluxe rooms have airconditioning but standard rooms have the option of a portable airconditioner, which was obviously what was in the room we were given. On returning to Reception to query whether we had been given the deluxe room which had been booked, we were told that the hotel considers all rooms with a view of the lake as "deluxe". This is not what was indicated on Booking.com site as on this site there were Standard Rooms with a lake view as well as Standard Rooms without a lake view. The price for a Standard Room with a lake view was less than that of a Deluxe Room with lake view, so we were very annoyed that we would be paying for a deluxe room but would be in a standard room. We were given another room when we were able to convince reception staff that according to the criteria on Booking.com about the airconditioning, we had been checked into a standard room rather than a deluxe room. The room we ended up in was on the fifth floor and was great, but the experience of not being giving the room we thought we had booked was time consuming and soured our experience of this hotel.

Review 140:We liked the location and the view of the lake from the room. When we had an issue with the assigned room not being the room we had booked it was dealt with efficiently.
