Reviews for Sandman Signature Vancouver Airport Hotel & Resort

Review 1:The staff were great, the shuttle was on time and they upgraded us to a room away from the street as we only had five hours to sleep before our early flight to London

Review 2:The pool and water slides were a BIG disappointment. We booked this hotel because it was our granddaughter's birthday and she wanted a water slide. The hot tub was broken, the pool area was run down and the locker rooms were not very clean.

Review 3:The staff was GREAT!! They were attentive and helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy.

Review 4:Food prices were a tad high. Excellent fare was available but the prices were substantial. Didn't get time to enjoy the fitness/pool facilities.

Review 5:Central location to conduct my business. Professional setting and suites, comfortable beds, good security - liked the elevator pass card requirement.

Review 6:Our first room had an extremely loud pipe banging as soon as we walkedin. We immediately called for maintenance, after 3 more calls andwaiting an hour the guy showed. He tried a few things and said he fixedit. He didn't!!! It woke up everyone in the room at 4am and kept usup. Since our son was there to play hockey he was very very tired!!! Wecalled first thing and were told we would get a new room at 12:30. Wewaited till 1:00 and were given our new room key, my husband and 10yearold daughter walked in and there were still people there!!!!! By thispoint my husband was quite upset and went back down stairs with mydaughter. He was basically blown off by the manager and told they wouldgive us 40 dollars off our stay and 5 breakfast coupons. And gave us anew room. When we packed up and moved to our "new" room it hadan awful smell. It smelled like dog pee, it was terrible so Iimmediately called down stairs and demanded the manager come to ourroom. I was upset. All this moving around, no sleep and stress is reallynot good for my health!!!! The manager showed, he could smell it andoffered us a 3rd room. When we looked at the 3rd room it was not evenremotely suitable for our family needs. Two adjoining rooms when weneeded a suite. So we said no and stayed in the stinky room. Then themanager and I had a serious discussion as to what was an acceptablediscount doe all our trouble. He was trying to stick to his 20 per nightdiscount that he offered my husband I said no way!!!!! We travel all thetime and stay at hotels at least 3-5 times per year and we've neverhad this type of problem. After much diacussion we agreed on 50 pernight discount. All the stress of it all truly ruined our time!! Hugedisappointment.

Review 7:Front desk staff and food at Denny'S.

Review 8:The staff and rooms/ beds were great. The reason we booked this hotel was for the water slide and hot tub - our granddaughter's birthday. The condition of the pool and change rooms was disappointing. There were few chairs, it wasn't very clean and the hot tub was out of order. The staff at the front desk were great! Not sure we would stay here again.

Review 9:I never had a bad experience, all went very smoothly, just as you hope it will.

Review 10:Great location, between airport and Vancouver City, we were transiting before heading back to Australia. We were upgraded to a Self contained Suite, it was lovely, great bathroom, kitchen facilities, very comfortable huge king size bed, i would stay there again and highly recommend this Hotel, Sincerely.

Review 11:only suggestion would be larger tvs with better reception as it was a bit fuzzy :)

Review 12:Great staff, rooms were nice, great. Staff were very helpful and room service was very quick and delicious. Free parking and wifi

Review 13:I expected a suite configured in an environment conducive to a business meeting. The room layout, and floorplan of the layout were not ideal.

Review 14:Staff, service and location were good.

Review 15:I didn't like the old presidential side, needs to be updated for sure, creepy hallways and loud doors. Reminded of the shinning. Very far from rest of hotel. The new side is very nice however.

Review 16:I liked the easy check in, and complimentary services. Very comfy beds!

Review 17:Waited 40 mins for check in, When I got to room door was open, bed looked slept in room had not been cleaned, there was drilled holes in ceiling all the dry wall dust was on the chair desk and floor, large electrical cable running across patio blocking door, got poked by a shard of glass that was in the bed , towels didn't look or smell clean, mold in the shower. I never requested any wake up call was called 6 times starting a 4 am every half hour an automated system called my room. No working vending machines, waited 20 mins to check out. We were there because my son was having surgery my wife had to stay with our son over night at the hospital and insisted I use the room to get some much needed rest as the room was booked and unable to cancel. Busy hotel or not no guest should have these issues at a well astablished hotel.

Review 18:Getting back to the hotel from downtown was a bit complicated; the route is not direct and requires a u-turn on a busy road close to the hotel.

Review 19:Close to airport; restaurant right there; access to freeway to downtown close by.

Review 20:My only complaint is there was no refrigerator in the room. I have a special diet and required my breakfast to be kept cold. This was disappointing as I ended up wasting a very expensive food....

Review 21:Sheets weren't ironed - general sense of sloppiness. Ckeanliness in public areas was poor but the room was clean to be fair.

Review 22:Location and shuttle bus to the airport

Review 23:The room didn't check if it is working the air condition & the tub was stock up but anyway everything is okay no comment that's it..thanks

Review 24:Our experience was,We are in 6th floor but the air condition is not working & the tub the water was stock up & we thank you one of the staff provide us to move in 18th floor @ 12:50am & no comment the staff is good & the room Is good we felt comfy...thanks

Review 25:Bad service. I was in room 265 and it was noisy with a load bang. Later on i discovered there was a gym below or above. It took two days to allocate another room. I could not sleep and checked out to another hotel where i got better service.

Review 26:Nothing.

Review 27:Hotel is getting old. Carpets aren't that clean. Staff is a hit/miss. Some of them were really helpful. Some very rude.

Review 28:Accommodate my requests well

Review 29:Front desk was inadequate. It took too long to register and too long to check out. Also, they double booked my room. They gave me a key for room 149 and when I opened it, I found it was already occupied. I had to go back to the front desk to get another room. Also, noise from YVR airplanes taking off is very noticeable.

Review 30:The room was very nice and comfortable

Review 31:Panel peeling from around bathroom mirror. Switch to fan in bathroom missing so no fan. Damaged top on coffee pot. Water Leak from roof above bath tub. No complimentary coffee in lobby or breakfast provided. We had stayed at 4 comfort inns and coffee and breakfast was part of the room expense. All 4 of us expressed disappointment. Parking was very difficult to find. Lot was very full. Perhaps we just had a lower class room.

Review 32:Location

Review 33:We were offered a wonderful room on the 20th floor with a beautiful view. I loved the fact that this hotel had balconies. We had a great time at the bar with great service. A wonderful check in lady was kind enough to help us get our boarding passes for our next days travels when she was busy. Kudos to her!!!

Review 34:Looks dated....front lobby needs a face lift ...gift shop seems like it could use some help. Just poor first impression.

Review 35:Very comfortable beds and quiet room

Review 36:That I wasn't allowed to go on the slide as we were out of the opening hours, I wanted to be a kid again

Review 37:The super friendly staff and great facilities and the shuttle bus is a real bonus but not easy to find at the airport

Review 38:Right after checking in, the keycard that they gave us did not work. The room (a king suite) smells moldy, the pullout bed had almost no support and was extremely uncomfortable (even for a pull out). The sheet and duvet was dirty. The bathroom has such a bad layout that the door could barely be shut becuase the toilet is in the way. This cannot be a 4-star hotel standard!!

Review 39:Not much.

Review 40:We didn't like that there is no continental breakfast or vouchers with the expense of the room. Also, the outdoor pool close to our room was closed during our whole stay

Review 41:We liked how big the rooms were & that they had both indoor & outdoor pool options for the kids.

Review 42:Rooms were not of a satisfactory standard to match the price. Shabby decorating and worn without replacement.

Review 43:The lobby and pool area were of a high standard and very nice.

Review 44:Staff not as helpful as in a previous visit - we really needed to extend the check-out time due to a late flight and because of the illness of one of our party and they grudgingly extended it to 2pm after we begged, but the cleaning staff were clearly harrassed by this and passed on the stress to us, waiting outside the door. In an unusual and stressful situation I would have expected better customer support.

Review 45:common areas lovely and useful, the three pools were a nice touch. IHOP good for breakfast next door. Shuttle service to airport excellent.

Review 46:The room key cards needed activation everyday and the reason given was magnetic interference when the key cards got exposed to cell phones or supermarket or train station security systems. The front desk staff were polite and courteous but seem to be too overwhelmed with excess work Not enough value for our money as room rates and taxes are high Downtown is a 30 minute taxi drive or 45 minute by sky train and costs time and money Complimentary pass to steve nash fitness center was given but the fitness center staff were unwelcoming with their attitude towards the pass. Not enough restaurant options around the hotel especially if you plan to stay for 9 nights like we did. Restaurants in and around the hotel are a bit pricy. No free breakfast option or upgrade was given even though we stayed for nine nights. Lift stopped working for about 20- 30 minutes one day and we were stranded outside the lift, but there were no apologies from any of the staff. Not enough information is displayed regarding sight seeing or places of tourist interest.

Review 47:Free airport shuttle that takes us to airport at regular intervals where we can get on to the sky train to go to down town or other areas. Outdoor and indoor swimming pool Indoor tennis courts Easily available taxis round the clock

Review 48:Room smelled very musty, exposed (but not visible) carpet staple cut my foot after I tripped on a wrinkle in the rug. Pool was closed mid-summer? I shared my comments and photos with staff and they did nothing for me.

Review 49:Good location

Review 50:Breakfast room service- mouldy toast, forgot two portions of fruit, poor quality, cold. Pool- main pool was very cold as well as the room it was in. Not ideal as we had 6month old baby who couldn't go in. Coffee shop- waited for over 5 minutes at an in manned coffee shop to be served where bags of garbage were left laying about. Front receptionist could barely smile at me. She was quite frostie every time I talked to her. Apparently she was the most senior receptionist so I would have expected I a high level of professionalism and customer service. It also appeared that many departments could have done with extra staff to combat a lot of these issues.

Review 51:Kids loved the water slide.

Review 52:rooms are dated, I had to point out 4 room fixes required - drain, leak, door lock , sliding lock,

Review 53:Good location near airport , good restaurant options

Review 54:Attitude of staff below average, felt like we we're an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. Staff failed to give information out about needing to book shuttle. We're rude when we asked about the tennis facilities they advertised but we're not available. They had a dead goldfish in their tanks behind the check in desk when we pointed this out they were rude and said they had bigger problems than that to worry about

Review 55:Nice beds

Review 56:For the price I paid as well as staying in the penthouse suite alone I would expect the room to be in tip top shape. The hot tub which is the main reason we stayed at the hotel was missing a handle for the faucet which made it difficult to turn on. The glass door sliding shower was missing one door and there were old shattered pieces of glass on the ground. Lastly when I lifted the lid to the ice bucket in our room the inside was very dirty.

Review 57:The layout of the room and the hot tub within our bathroom was definitely the selling point of our stay.

Review 58:I didn't like that the toilets had no sink. You had to open the door with your dirty hands to get to the sink just outside the loo - that isn't hygienic.

Review 59:The location was great.

Review 60:VERY hard to find. Having no GPS or smart phone we had to rely on maps and the street does not appear on the maps provided by the tourist office. "the airport" was only a clue!

Review 61:Comfortable bed and good size room.

Review 62:first night's room TV and air-conditioner didn't work. Staff that came to room said he'd been called several times over the past while for the same problem - yet it seemed to be news to the front desk. Also said we'd be given some compensation - discount, free breakfast or similar, but nothing was offered. Last housekeeping - short towel and coffee. Not sure what market segment these guys are going for - looks upmarket, but delivery is average.

Review 63:Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Good food choices of in-hotel trendy steak/seafood restaurant as well as nearby family-style, and sports bar next door

Review 64:Serious health and dangerous hazards left exposed. Major leaking from ceiling. Electrical arcing.

Review 65:Room under construction with exposed hazards of plumbing and ectrical faults actively malfunctioning. Door damaged and hazardous left i repaired. More

Review 66:Too far from public transportation ( 15 long min walk or take a bus till subway service), no groceries store.

Review 67:Nice location near airport, good shuttle service. spacious room with beautiful colors and comfy bed. Nice outdoor pool and water slide. Ceiling floor in our room was liking and they gave us a new room immediately with complimentary drinks and snack including last day of our stay.

Review 68:Our patio door did not close tightly, so road noise came through. We told the staff when we checked out (only one night stay) and they indicated they would fix it ASAP. Location was a bit out of the way for Vancouver activities but the access to Vancouver and the airport was direct and easy.

Review 69:Faculty had a great coffee shop and restaurant. The pools were well maintained. Beds were comfortable and clean.

Review 70:Outdoor pool wasn't working. The indoor pool is tiny, dirty, connected to s water slide and therefore noisy with kids. Hot tub wasn't hot- tepid at best.

Review 71:Location.

Review 72:I don't know what they use to clean the carpet in the room coz it stinks

Review 73:Cleanliness. Not too far from Vancouver . Restaurants close by. the kids love the pool

Review 74:Wall paper in room was coming off ceiling

Review 75:Wow staff was amazing. Everytime we would walk down a hall, we were greeted very friendly. We also loved the pool was open till eleven!

Review 76:This hotel was identified as a resort. It was far from being a resort. Both of their two out door pools were closed. The racket ball courts were used a storage areas. There was also a fee to play tennis and you were required to have "white tennis shoes" no other type of tennis shoes allowed. The AC was not working in our room, which the hotel was aware of. They wanted us to open the sliding door for air, which opened to expressway traffic. However they did exchange rooms for us. The wallpaper was coming loose from the walls in both the bedroom and bath. The resort in general was worn-out. There was only a shuttle to the airport, none to Vancouver.

Review 77:I did not have a bad experience so there is nothing to tell.

Review 78:Really loved this room/hotel. I wish we could have gotten in earlier than 9 p.m. so we could have enjoyed it a bit more. Our room was fantastic (15th floor of British Tower) with a wonderful view. We had breakfast in the room, on our deck enjoying the morning. The food was very good, especially for room service.

Review 79:The carpets in our room were soaking wet and we noticed a strange smell.

Review 80:The kids loved the big slide but were disappointed that it closed down at 9. They used it anyway.

Review 81:Breakfast was not complimentary. For the price, it should be. Or, we should get a discount at Denny's where the food was excellent.

Review 82:My granddaughter visited and loved the water slide.

Review 83:for the cost of the hotel, I figured there would be a mini fridge, de-caf coffee, more then just 2 of everything to enjoy a coffee. And because I was traveling with 2 kids, we ate from the restaurant. For the cost it was disappointing. The salmon was blan and dry, and the steak dinner I got no veggies, just a small steak and baked potato. It will be our last time staying at the sandman.

Review 84:The bed.

Review 85:Short layover between flights, they gave me a room with no aircon. Moved me but I lost 1 precious hour for sleeping! Not impressed.

Review 86:Shuttle driver did not check in the lobby for guests before leaving for the airport and nearly left some folks behind

Review 87:Lots of traffic noise, even with windows closed. Earplugs are required. Checking in, staff did not bother to smile, welcome us, or really even pay attention. She was talking to another staff member during the check-in process. Too expensive!

Review 88:Clean room, confortable bed, everything worked. Elevator in our tower was fine.

Review 89:Elevators were slow to arrive (and I was on the 18th floor). Balcony door was very stiff.

Review 90:The friendliness of the front desk staff, the privacy of each floor (as each only has 8 or so rooms on each?), as well as the balcony. I actually cancelled another hotel I was booked at so that I could extend my stay here!

Review 91:Sunday brunch very overpriced (not much selection or value for money)

Review 92:Good location (close to airport), hotel seemed to be a good bargain for the money. Older hotel but kept up fairly well. Large property with two pools (one with slide), close to main highways and restaurants.

Review 93:The hotel located a bit far from the bus stops, must walk over 500 meters to the nearby bus stops to go to the train stations or get around Richmond.

Review 94:The room is clean and there's free shuttle bus from/to the Airport. The staffs are helpful and very informative.

Review 95:We took the train and bus to the Sandman Hotel not realizing there were two Sandman's and we were supposed to be at the Sandman Signature. When the desk clerk told us we were at the wrong hotel, the young lady working the desk told us it was only a minute walk around the corner to the signature. We had been walking and touring all day, but started to walk in the direction she pointed. When we realized that it was far away and across a highway we returned to the hotel. She was rather rude and said" What do you want me to do, call a taxi.:" we said no, we want a ride on a shuttle. The other young man working offered to call us a shuttle. We could not believe she expected us to walk over there. Also the remote for the TV did not work, the room did not cool off until the morning, and we could not call out a local number on the phone,

Review 96:Comfortable bed.

Review 97:Front desk reps gave misleading/incomplete information and seemed careless. Blankets had dirty stains, sheets smelled horrible like they were not changed, room service was hard to get, other rooms had plates and trash left in hallways not picked up overnight until next afternoon, hotel structure was outdated and a confusing maze to get around. Only nice part was the main building. This would be my last resort for a place to stay. It's okay for just overnight trip.

Review 98:It was convenient and close to dining, shopping, highways, casino and night market.

Review 99:-dinner at Chop was very poor-would not go back -couldn't get coffee at their coffee bar in lobby after 11:30am -room was not cleaned, no clean towels -room assigned looked out on huge white quonset tent-could see nothing else, after requesting an upper level room with view --bathroom was too dark to put on makeup -always a major complaint with Sandman Signature hotels

Review 100:the pool was great , Bed was very comfortable, very quiet, lots of free parking, outdoor patio area at Chop was great

Review 101:What is the difference between a sinature and regular Sandman? The TV's were small, the rooms were in poor shape, the workout facilities had no TV or cups for the water supplied. When the think Of Signature, I think that everything should be just a little nicer and be properly taken care of. A tile was even falling off the wall in my shower as well as the big burn mark on the mirror. I was not too impressed

Review 102:I liked the friendly staff.

Review 103:When we checked in they placed us in the provincial suites the room was smelled dank and like something was rotting. It also smelled like it use to be a smoker's room that side of the hotel all smelled funky. Could use more water pressure in the washrooms

Review 104:Staff were friendly and always willing to help. Beds are super comfortable. Hotel is really clean.

Review 105:upgrade the TV and some of the rooms are starting to look a bit dated. Heater/AC in room is really loud.

Review 106:its value for money, good facility. Nothing overly fancy. Chop next door is a bit expensive for food but it's good.

Review 107:Remote was broken in room, was replaced by maintenance. safe was broken and could not be fixed. wireless Internet kept cutting numerous times throughout our stay keys to room and elevator did not work 2 times, had to go to front desk that was always busy to have keys re-validated. Waited once for 20 minutes.

Review 108:good location, lots of selection for food at chop house and shark club

Review 109:The rooms A/C was broken, the televisions local channels were inaccessible the lights were burnt out in the foyer of the room. The entire floor felt like a sauna. It was the worst experience of a room Ive ever had. Totally not worth anywhere close to the price.

Review 110:Shuttle service to and from the hotel to airport was terrible! Surly driver, long wait and mix up in where my luggage was going. Listened to the neighbors shower from my room. Felt very invasive.

Review 111:There is no air ejector fan in washroom, asked staff, staff said that the air ejector fan should be turned on automatic, which is not the case! After taking a shower, you cannot see yourself in the mirror.

Review 112:Unfortunately it is easy to confuse with the other Sandman down the street and the taxi cab drivers are not forgiving with $$.

Review 113:I was able to get work done while my wife and son enjoyed the waterslide!

Review 114:Denny's... Greasiest breakfast I ever had, dripping in grease. Hotel hot tub was not hot!! Air was frigid. Pool was good, though.

Review 115:Many things, too much to list

Review 116:Cold room that I could not heat up and only lukewarm water in taps.

Review 117:Staff was very accommodating when there were no luggage carts on check in - they called for a fellow to come and help me with my 2 suitcases. When I phoned he also helped me move to another room and upgraded me when my room was cold and had no hot water. Liked that I did not have to go outside for my breakfast - it would be good too if there was a quick way to get to Denny's.

Review 118:At dinner the ravioli was below par and sent most of it back to the kitchen...had much better ravioli at Craft. Our room only had decaf coffee.... breakfast coffee at was poor and and ordered tea. No Starbucks nearby..

Review 119:breakfast was good at chop

Review 120:Unfortunately I have to rate average due to the need of updating and maintenance. When it was raining outside, it was also raining inside and I was welcomed with buckets and wet puddles in the main corridors to navigate my two suitcases around. It was already difficult on the sloping carpeted floors and half sized double doors that you have to open and close yourself around every bend... Not really what you want after 24hours traveling. Automatic doors would be appreciated or a bell boy service? Also trying to find the gym was a bit of a nightmare... Going through numerous doors which look like utility cupboards with tiny sign above... Make sure you take your room key or you'll be locked out... Signs desperately to be updated and should be placed on the doors in nice big font please unless you want all your guests disappearing into cupboards.

Review 121:Great shuttle service from the international airport and friendly professional staff.

Review 122:What a maze! Need a map and GPS to find your room and then you see the 'age' of the building. Extremely poor ... + do not look 'into' the A/C - appaling.

Review 123:Fantastic bed

Review 124:surprisingly for an hotel close to the airport, very early breakfast at hotel restaurant not possible, possibility in a small coffee shop beside.

Review 125:everything needed for 1 night stay between 2 flights

Review 126:The first room had no ac so then they moved us to the room right beside it and it had no ac. The hotel wasn't full and they put us in the oldest part of the hotel. Old and outdated. I have stayed in other sandman hotels and they were cleaner and more modern then the 90's style of room they put us in.

Review 127:A little TLC was needed in bathroom and noisy air con unit but overall - value for money though.

Review 128:Size of room was great. Staff friendly and helpful. Beds very comfortable.

Review 129:The room was filthy: bed was not made properly and creased like it had previously been slept in Bathroom was also very dirty with lots of mold on the tiles and the sink leaked leaving a large mold patch and slippery area on the floor.

Review 130:The free shuttle was on time and clean We could walk to the Weekend markets The facilities were good and what i had expected Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 131:The accommodation costs were too expensive and the meals in the restaurant was too expensive We chose to stay somewhere just as good for half the price closer to the airport and the sky train on our return

Review 132:I liked the room the view and the bath

Review 133:Room in provincial area was not what I expected. Front desk staff member in morning ignored us while taking a call.

Review 134:Shuttle bus Arrival front desk staff Clean rooms

Review 135:Outdated lobby, not inviting! The desk in the lobby! Not cleaning the hall way..it's kinda hard to go to the place cause of the roads our confusing! Outdated hallways!

Review 136:Waterslide in the pool, my kid & husband loved it! fast transaction in checking in & checking out! Affordable! Gift shop, sports bar, & a steakhouse is just there, no need to go somewhere else! Free safe parking!

Review 137:Waited 2 hrs to get check in after regular check in time just because our room is not ready. Wait for 2 days to get extra towels delivered to our room. Some days the house keeping didn't even make the bed or clean the garbage. Air conditioning is way too noisy. Swimming pool is dirty.

Review 138:The hotel decor was dated and could use to be updated. Also, the air conditioner did not work very well and rattled through most of the night.

Review 139:The hotel was fairly clean and the shuttle service to the airport was very good.
