Reviews for Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort
Review 1:The geothermal heating system seemed like it was malfunctioning. We turned the heat off in our room and opened the door to the patio. It was -5 Celsius outside so it only took about five minutes to cool it down but when we closed the door it went right back up to 29 degrees again. After calling the front desk and the guy coming up with a screwdriver and saying he closed the manifold, his advice was if we are still too hot to open to door to the patio... If we got too cold, open the door to the hallway to heat up the room. The employee said he would get maintenance to fix it the next day but it was never done. Basically we were responsible for managing our own heat. My feeling was that the whole hotel was having problems with the heating system as other guests I talked to said they were having problems with the heat in their room and the hallways were extremely hot. The bathroom door in our suite wouldn't close and they don't accept debit or have a cash machine. The path down to the ocean is infested with invasive broom and gorse plants.
Review 2:Nice location(Parksville).
Review 3:No room service, coffee maker no good for making tea, room had dust bombs around micro-wave, spider web in corner of room, fridge did not keep items cool. Window cover missing open and close wand! Was expecting a sea view!
Review 4:While we did have a/c that was a floor unit, it was a bit strange that a facility of this quality did not have central air. While having waterfront in its title, the water was actually a 5 minute walk away.
Review 5:Our condo was well appointed and decorated with granite counter tops and a full kitchen. The grounds were very nice as was the pool. Calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Review 6:very nice, clean modern units with a great kitchen. balcony had oceanfront views, bed was comfortable and enjoyed having an on-suite. Also enjoyed the pool.
Review 7:The service was fantastic, we called ahead to make sure we were in an air conditioned room and when we arrived we were very happy with our room. Spacious, comfy beds and nice washrooms. Great wifi, they was a big score with the kids.
Review 8:For 6 people, dinner service was inadequate unless we did them twice a day. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there as well as drinks. Issue with getting a new kettle, initially. Some other minor repairs, but overall, good.
Review 9:Proximity to pool. Being able to request the outdoor fire to be lit and we all stayed there for an hour. Friendly and helpful staff. Beach access. Close to a resort's restaurant.
Review 10:The room was very stuffy & we had to use the portable fan. We couldn't control the heat. I mentioned this to the staff but nothing was done. Also, they should put a fabric curtain on the door so people can't peer in from the outside --- easy solution.
Review 11:Modern
Review 12:It sounded like there was a dryer going with shoes in it off and on all night. It kept waking up my infant and could be heard over a white noise machine.
Review 13:The staff was friendly
Review 14:No daily house cleaning. We were put in a separate building where there was no lights in the parking area. We arrived after dark, so trying to unpack the car with 2 little kids in tow when I couldn't see anything was tough and made me nervous.
Review 15:Clean, modern room, my kids loved the "rain" shower in the bathroom.
Review 16:No way to cool down the room unless the door was open to patio. Room does not get cleaned like a hotel room since it is time share. No facilities on site for food, coffee etc. I wouldn't advertise as a hotel though. Good value at this time of year, just not what I was expecting from a hotel on booking. Tigh na Mara next door has much better facilities for same $$
Review 17:Comfy bed. Clean
Review 18:No maid service for entire 3 nights. Seemed odd for the price. They served coffee matte with coffee service in lobby. Cream would have been nice. Who serves coffee matte now a days.
Review 19:Lack of insulation between units. The neighbors were crashing and banging first thing in the morning and it ruined a very comfortable sleep.
Review 20:We arrived and were quickly checked into our room. It was new and clean and very comfortable. Bed was amazingly comfortable. Loved having a duvet instead of traditional hotel blankets. I did request a room change due to noisy neighbors and it was taken care of almost immediately. The second room was also super clean and comfortable (minus the noisy neighbors). We will be staying again. The resort is very clean and the staff was excellent. If it had been summer they have a nice poor and fireplace for guests to use.
Review 21:No restaurant or lounge on site. Available within walking distance though.
Review 22:Units are lovely. Get one facing away from the highway. Full kitchen is good to have.
Review 23:It would have been nice to have wifi in the room, though it was available near reception. No breakfast on site or shops nearby. However, breakfast could be purchased at the hotel next door.
Review 24:Friendly helpful staff. Nice beach nearby down a narrow track (NB the sea goes out a long way, leaving rock pools, so nice and safe for children). Open air swimming pool on site, though we didn't try it. Small kitchenette had a fridge, microwave and kettle. Nice quiet site.
Review 25:There isn't a bar or restaurant on site which is not really a downside
Review 26:We enjoyed a few days here in quiet parksville. The hotel was modern, clean and had a lovely pool and gym.
Review 27:There were no staff members about the complex so it was difficulty to obtain anything required like TP or Coffee without going to the front desk in another building. The rate is a little expensive. Wifi was a little erratic.
Review 28:Jack was very welcoming, accommodating, and patiently answered all our questions. The facilities are excellent and we liked the freedom of staying in a comfortable, modern facility with all the conveniences of home! We appreciated the extras like liquid dishwashing soap, dishwasher tablets , laundry soap, paper towels, etc.The granite kitchen counter in the three bedroom unit is ENORMOUS and ideal for food prepping and entertaining! We shall be happy to return.
Review 29:Studio room is small for any long term stay. No dresser for clothing storage or closet for clothing. What is there is a utility closet . Odd entrance to unit which has you sharing with the unit next door/ A and B setup. A fan for cooling instead of central air conditioning? What is that about?
Review 30:New, modern, tastefully decorated, comfortable bed
Review 31:Would not recommend for longer stay. Room / bath smaller than expected. Needed restaurant. Not as close to water as I had anticipated.
Review 32:Good for short stay - smaller than expected. Rate was good. Quiet & comfortable. Better than motels. Elevators made it easier.
Review 33:Size of room was very small and cluttered. It was miserable stuffy night crammed in this small room with a very loud large walmart fan and no air conditioner. The room sat at the front of the building so opening the windows and blinds would have exposed all of our business to our next door neighbors.
Review 34:Location, staff the shower was very nice
Review 35:*No windows in bedrooms for ventilation *Sound from upper suits comes through *property was set up to be larger, but undeveloped leaving a long distance to views or beach access. *Charged for additional vanity products *No cleaning/services while you stay. *We were in a 'two bedroom' suit which was actually a key to a second suit. Set up was not for a family holiday, but would work for multiple families wanting a space together.
Review 36:Quiet hotel (number of guests) Nice pool Convenient location to town
Review 37:i PAID ALMOST $200 1. NO ROBES 2. ROOMS TOO HOT 3. ROOM TOO SMALL 4. NO BALCONY 5. POOL AND HOT TUB DOWN 5. NO DOOR ON SHOWER 6.PARKING IN DUSTY GRAVEL 7 WALK TO BEACH 8 NO ICE OR FREEZER IN FRIDGE 9.DOUBLE NOT QUEEN BED 10. 10 AM CHECK OUT
Review 38:NOT MUCH..PLACE IS NEW
Review 39:The biggest downside was that the 10 am checking out time is a bit early when you have young children to organise - 11 am would be much better.
Review 40:The pool was great and the facilities in the rental were excellent.
Review 41:missing air conditioning in the bedroom
Review 42:We stayed here only for one night on our journey through Vancouver Island. What a pity we could not stay a view days more due to our travelling schedule. Next time we will do so. Accomodations are comfortable and rooms are pleasant and clean. We enjoyed all the amenities of the hotel particularly a nice balcony with gas barbecue and the outdoor swimming pool. Quiet place to relax at the beach.
Review 43:The beach area was farther from the building that I was lead to believe in the advertising. The tide has a big impact on the beach area. The water is a few hundred meters away during low tide. We used the beach in Parksville instead. There is no stairway to the lobby, so, you have to wait for the elevator just to do one flight of stairs.
Review 44:Excellent staff and building. This suite had two bedrooms and two baths. The kitchen and sitting room were well equipped. The balcony was larg and had a BBQ. The pool was very nice.
Review 45:The room ready for check is a bit late, we only can got the room at 4:30pm. The normal checkout time is 10:00am, if change to 11:00am will be much better.
Review 46:Decoration, facilities and the great kitchen is a good place for family gathering.
Review 47:Too hot. No air flow. We were placed on ground floor on parking lot side. Too hot to sleep even with fans running all day and night. When we complained, the front desk said only some units have AC and they book up first.
Review 48:Beautiful 2 br 2 bath condo. Nice pool. Great location.
Review 49:For a new building and resort, it lacked some basic amenities, room air conditioning being the major one. During our stay the afternoon temperatures were in the low thirties and with no A/C, it was very difficult to sleep as the room did not cool down until the early hours of the morning. The second missing basic was there is no ice machine anywhere on the property. Hard to enjoy a drink with no ice. Other tan that, we enjoyed our stay.
Review 50:Nice location with beach access to Craig Bay. Staff were friendly and the price was reasonable for the property.
Review 51:This "resort" does not make it clear that it's actually a time share facility. The rooms are laid out like a motel - you have to walk by other people's door on their balcony to get to your room. The room had no air conditioning and this wasn't made known to us before we dropped $150 on the room. It had a single fan that just moved around the hot air. The thermostat stayed at 28 degrees the entire night. We couldn't open the door because of the motel set up - people could walk right in or see right into our room. Furthermore, when I went to drop off the key and pool towels there was no one there to speak to about any of this and when I emailed my complaint I received no response. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. It was an extremely disappointing experience and neither of us got any sleep.
Review 52:No proper air conditioning. The room was very hot and they did not explain that air conditioning meant a fan! No room service. It is not much of a getaway for mom if she gets stuck with cleaning and laundry all over again!
Review 53:The location The pool The peace and quiet
Review 54:Resort was quite loud, view of garbage dumpsters from our balcony was less than desirable.
Review 55:Pool facilities, laundry in room, large rooms, clean grounds, lots of wildlife on site (deer, rabbits, raccoons), ocean access was awesome (when tide was out).
Review 56:NO A/C, which was a surprise, but a stand up oscillating fan was in the room. TV was a little tiny flatscreen, too small for the room, but to be fair, we weren't there for the TV.
Review 57:Suite was beautiful, new and modern, vaulted ceiling, stocked kitchenette, luxury ensuite with large tiled shower. King bed and bedding were very comfortable. Small balcony with bistro set, kept the balcony door open to let airflow in the room. Outdoor pool, and hot tub were nice extras. Short walking trail (5 mins?) to the beach area. Excellent value for the price. I would definitely stay here again (even without the A/C).
Review 58:We didn't like that there was no housekeeping provided and that we had to buy our own Kleenex as there was none provided. No fresh towels and having to make up the room and yet being charged for the full nightly amount for the room. Also the room was so hot we had to keep the windows and door open continuously. The staff offered us fans, but really at this price range you would think there would be air conditioning.
Review 59:We liked the modern facility and the view. It was very quiet and peaceful.
Review 60:Room was very hot. No air conditioning, so sleeping was uncomfortable. Would seriously recommend installation of air conditioning for the few really hot days and periods
Review 61:Facility was clean, well appointed and generally handy to other local attractions.
Review 62:While almost everything was good, we were surprized there was no restaurant, or even a quick breakfast bar...
Review 63:terrific room; great kitchen and living room. Very comfortable for our break away from our hectic work life in Victoria.
Review 64:A queen bed is too small for the two of us. The property looks like is is under construction for a long time and never finished
Review 65:The apartment style. A full kitchen 2 bathrooms Beach access
Review 66:There was no a/c in the room, and it was incredibly hot, making it difficult to sleep at night. The staff when we checked in were not so helpful about the local area, all the restaurants closed at 9pm.
Review 67:The hotel is in a great location near the beach, and surrounded by other hotels. We really liked the outside pool and the bed was really soft.
Review 68:The rooms don't have much insulation between rooms so you can hear everything that is happening in the next room. And there was no fan in the room for hot nights
Review 69:Cheaper than sea edge motel and it has a hot tub
Review 70:The 10 AM check out was a disappointing discovery on check-in. The room, with windows opened, remained stuffy. We used a provided floor fan, but found the lack of fresh air circulation to be somewhat uncomfortable.
Review 71:The studio we stayed in and overall facilities have beautiful decor and are new modern buildings. Our studio was very attractive, and the kitchenette was a welcome addition. Very nice bathroom and enjoyed the rain head shower. Due to our short stay and schedule while in Parksville, we didn't get a chance to enjoy the pool and hot tub, but these looked very inviting.
Review 72:Don't have ice machine
Review 73:Staff is so so kind Room i was so clean
Review 74:Felt the size of our studio was over priced in relation to the two bedroom
Review 75:The size of the suite was great..
Review 76:Beach access was a bit far but the path created was user friendly.
Review 77:Convenient location, quiet.
Review 78:Location not really waterfront steep walk to beach access no views
Review 79:Private quiet friendly staffstaff comfortable room
Review 80:Not being able to adjust the heat
Review 81:Would have preferred a king bed.
Review 82:It is nice and new and the staff very good.
Review 83:Nothing.
Review 84:This was an amazing quiet property we were blown away with all it had to offer. We will definitely be going back.
Review 85:Unit had a well equipped kitchen and was very spacious. Great pool area. Short walk to beach.
Review 86:Air conditioner should have been replaced prior to our arrival. The comfort of our room and our experience would have then been a 10/10.
Review 87:Two guests in our party were disappointed with the distance and access to the beach.
Review 88:Was very happy with the accommodations overall.
Review 89:the single room was too dark. Couldn't see anything in the bathroom
Review 90:Spotty wifi
Review 91:Clean cute room
Review 92:Waterfront means to me next to or on and not a view of the water or access to the water.
Review 93:Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 94:The staff were wonderful. I'll be back for sure.
Review 95:Nice room, amenities.
Review 96:I couldn't control room temperature. It was a little bit cold.
Review 97:Pillows were hard and tall
Review 98:Staff was very nice Facility was beautiful
Review 99:Pool was closed - seemed too early in the season.
Review 100:Comfortable, large rooms.
Review 101:Having to pay for extra soap powder etc
Review 102:All of it. Really liked the pool area and the hire of paddle boards
Review 103:No complaints
Review 104:Quiet
Review 105:Having to pay for extra coffee when only one of us drank coffee. Maybe a smaller machine.
Review 106:The location for my cousin and I was very good
Review 107:Not on the ocean. No air conditioning and no day maid service.

Review 117:Swimming pool and hot tub.
Review 118:Had booked a junior suite. Too warm with no air circ. had to upgrade to a one bedroom suite.
Review 119:One bedroom was well appointed.
Review 120:No air conditioning, noisy, parking not close enough, charged for coffee for room for second day
Review 121:bad design, no air flow in room, acces to water, not beach.
Review 122:recent construction, confortable bed
Review 123:The room is small
Review 124:Its quite and walking distance to the beach
Review 125:Room to small and no A/C therefore room was too hot a night
