Reviews for Villa Toscane
Review 1:We were on the ground floor and it was loud through the night. Not sure the doors closed securely to the hotel entrance. Room wasn't great. Old. Long lines at the check-in and check-out.
Review 2:Location was walkable to the Cmas markets
Review 3:The so-called 4 star hotel has no service, no staff, and the staff from the neighboring hotel across the street is unwelcoming because they had to answer to the abandoned hotel (Villa Toscane) customers.
Review 4:Nothing, it's a fake. Hotel is without servicing staff. It's abandoned, except for cleaning.
Review 5:Bathroom is very small. Wifi is not so good. AC is ancient, working somehow but very loud. There is no reception you have to cross to the street. And finally blocking 200 CHF from credit card for security reasons (!) is ridiculous even though here it mentions 50 CHF.
Review 6:Location is good. Parking is free. Rooms are big. Spa and pool is free of charge in the hotel across (although I had no time to try)
Review 7:Very old property. Carpets had stains all over. Room was stuffy and smelled bad. AC was not working. The rooms didn't have a Lake view. The F&B staff was extremely unprofessional. The breakfast was awful, poor hygiene and poor variety (flies all over the buffet).
Review 8:Friendly front office staff. Very understanding and helpful.
Review 9:the building is very old, needing to be fixed, bathroom really small, extra bed was a joke, to pay a deposit per person when the hotel and the rooms are really deteriorated
Review 10:the plasma TV
Review 11:No air conditioner and can't provide an electrics fan too. My sister in law's room in 3rd floor is better with a fan, but our room in 2nd is terrible hot without fan, can't provide even called room service. It's very noise when open window to sleep at night time. And room is small.
Review 12:Location is good
Review 13:The combination of words no-frills (but in such a way that everything works) and 'rustic charm' come to mind; one could shoot a movie with old-world scenes in here. Access to a huge terrace with pretty good views of the lake was a surprise and a plus; but not all rooms seem to have that. Staff for check-in etc are in the adjacent hotel, but that was trouble-free.
Review 14:Service Quality absolutely poor. A shame for Switzerland. In the restaurant and the lobby the staff made everything that I felt not being welcomed. The street next to the hotel is very noisy - with open window no chance to sleep. Bath very old and narrow, water pressure allowed to count the drops.
Review 15:Breakfast and comfortable bed
Review 16:Very close to railway and a busy road. Old and loud airco does not help for a good night. All facilities and food are available from the main hotel across the street
Review 17:Charming hotel, lake view, clean rooms and good beds
Review 18:Really really noisy, cool air did not work so it was not a nice night at all. Plus all facilities are across the (so noisy) road, even the check in. I won't recommend
Review 19:Location
Review 20:The AC was not working and when I claimed that I had 31 degrees in the room and I had to drink all the water and cokes in the minibar, they did not even offer one water...
Review 21:We had a nice room...but our friends had a terrible, small and un-airconditioned room and had to be re-located in the Royal Hotel - after a lot of effort!
Review 22:Our room was very pleasant - probably the best one in this building.
Review 23:Villa Toscane does not have any room with any lake view. It is being managed by Hotel Plaza which is on the lake front. The rooms had no fan, no ventilation and really cramped up!!
Review 24:Absolute waste of money and especially time as a tourist!!
Review 25:The receptionist, Jennifer, was not helpful or friendly at all. She didn't offer us the tourist card which gave free bus travel and museum discounts. We only found out later from the Tourist office. When we asked why she didn't tell us she said not everyone needs it. She then reluctantly gave it to us! Also the room was incredibly stuffy, no air conditioning and the manager said he didn't have any more fans available. So I didn't sleep most of the time.
Review 26:Although it was the annexe and not as luxurious as the main hotel, we loved the location, the bed and the breakfast although overpriced. The cleaning staff were very thorough, although none spoke French or English! Very frustrating. (French speaking country!)
Review 27:We arrived at the Royal Plaza to check into Villa Toscane as instructed. However the air con wasn't working so we were upgraded to a very nice quiet room in the main hotel. Facilities were good and staff very helpful.
Review 28:this was not a 4-star hotel at all. The room was shabby, stained couch, broken shower head, the room door was bent and didn't close properly. The Villa Toscane has no staff, you have to walk 5 min to another hotel to be attended and for breakfast. I'm surprised booking.com lets this hotel advertise as a 4-star, it's a generous 3-star at best. Price was overrated for facilities.
Review 29:Great location for Montreux. Large room and bathroom. Wifi worked well.
Review 30:The room was a bit smelly when we arrived, the bathroom is tiny (in the sense of its difficult to get yourself dry after showering because you can hardly turn around or streth your arms), some of the furniture had quite some signs of usage. However, since our stay was during the festival season and the hotel was literally 2 min away from the festival, I guess part of the price was for this convenience and usually the price vs. quality ratio will be better. In total, it was ok, but the price was a bit high in proporion for what you got for it.
Review 31:It was super close to the Montreux festival area. Also, the staff allowed us to stow the luggage for an entire day (we picked it up around 1:30am and it was no problem at all).
Review 32:nice large room. Pool spa nice. Hideously uncomfortable kid bed and no response to a few requests (ie for missing bedding). But still, a good spot right across From the water. We like older places and the room was nice.
Review 33:This is one of the worst hotels I´ve ever been to. The room´s in a disastrous inacceptable condition, literally tiles are falling off the bath-flooring, toiletseat looks like someone bite into it and curtains were dirty, walls are paper thin and terrace door was not to close properly. For the reception I´ve had to go to another hotel to get the keys. On my complaints, the manager responded something like "but therefore we are cheaper than others". At a (festival) price of CHF 450.- per night, I still would expect a minimum of a standard and tidiness. This hotel is a shame for Swiss hotelerie.
Review 34:Montreux Jazz Festival was great!!
Review 35:No air con so we kept the window open which cooled us down well but was a bit noisy . Outdoor pool would have been good but we swan in the lake instead .
Review 36:Location as great for the Jazz Festival
Review 37:Given that we are here during the MJF there is no complaint about the price as such, but the value for money isn't right. We arrived as a group and had informed the hotel up front, however, nothing was prepared for us, so we had a lengthy and quite chaotic Check-in for each person individually. The rooms are not in great condition, the bed sheets had a dark stain, the door was damaged, the carpets on the floor level, stained and some of the rooms smelled of mould.
Review 38:If you are looking for a central location in Montreux, the place is perfect.
Review 39:That there was no clear instructions on the building to indicate where the reception is. The rooms are a bit basic for the prices charged. The inside appears like a boarding house for students.
Review 40:Beautiful old building outside
Review 41:A very standard, bare bones tourist class room. Not what I expected from the photos. Staff forgot to tell us the code to get back into the building so when we came back late with two exhausted children we were locked out. Also they assigned us a parking spot, which we paid for...and when we got back our spot was gone and the parking area was full.
Review 42:good location right near the water in Montreux.
Review 43:Hotel check in and check out were at the Royal Plaza on the opposite side of the road. Neither Hotel board or notice on door had this accentuated thus it took us several minutes and a lot of walking around the building before we realised this. Staff were efficient, but unfriendly with one exception. Curtains didn't meet across the windows, had to get into bed by crawling up from the foot of the bed as no room to get around it and the bathroom was generally in poor condition
Review 44:Absolutely nothing
Review 45:The room was quite small, and the television audio only worked for one station. The scenery outside our window nicely compensated for our lack of tv viewing however.
Review 46:We had a breathtaking view of the Alps and Lake Geneva from our room. The hotel was charming, clean and nicely furnished, and the bed was comfortable.
Review 47:Can be invaded by visitors from East Asia, they can make the experience not nice as they invade and take over and act like they own the place. :-(
Review 48:The hotel was in stunning quality, service excellent, seating on the shores of Lake Geneva. Safe Parking.
Review 49:To expensive for what it is. Un confty beds, with really small cheap pillows. Insects was found when we entered the room. Tryed calling reception but out of 20 times calling they answered once. Very hard towels and old bathroom. Stains all over the place. This hotel would discribe s 2-3 star hotel definitly not 4 stars.
Review 50:Breakfast was way over priced and we chose not to order it. There are a number of Cafe's by the station which are excellent and we went there for breakfast every morning.
Review 51:The rooms were bigger than a chain hotel and the location was near the lake front with partial views of the lake. The rooms are old and the décor very tired but we went for the locations and the price and got much better experience than we expected.
Review 52:The room was advertised for four people...our 14 and 18year olds found the campbed and sofa bed impossible to sleep on due to size discomfort and structure..BUT once pointed out to Staff it was immediately rectified.
Review 53:We loved the location...the family room had a mini kitchenette..very handy.Decor was pleasing.
Review 54:Bathroom did not smell too good, although it was very clean.
Review 55:Friendly and professional staff, good food, clean room and bedding, location was excellent!
Review 56:Attention: Reception, or any kind of "human help" is on the other main hotel, accross the street.
Review 57:We, a group of friends stayed at Villa Toscan with our kids. It was a comfortable place. Very close to the main railway station, to the minimarket open 7/24. Nearly by the lake :) Free wi-fi. Rooms with a high ceiling.. What else would you expect ?
Review 58:Situated across the road from Royal Plaza but you have to check in and out through the Royal Plaza. Our bathroom had floor tiles missing and the third bed for our child was nothing more than half a hard couch. Four star - I highly doubt it. Overpriced and disappointing.
Review 59:The room service was excellent
Review 60:Waiting for breakfast as the food and drinks kept running out very quickly We didn't have orange juice at all on the first day New Years eve was disappointing... No fireworks to see the Nee Year in!!! Poor atmosphere in the Sinatra bar
Review 61:Congested room. Asked reception on the first morning to remove the baby cot from the room but this was not done. Maybe even one TV channel in English or with English sub titles
Review 62:cleanliness
Review 63:I could not switch off the room lights from the bedside. Had to get up and switch off the main switch. When I switched off from the main switch next to the entrance door then I could switch the side lamp on!!
Review 64:Enjoyed my stay. Perhaps some TV channels in English - especially the news?
Review 65:location- really hard to find a place to eat with small children. Really expensive places to eat close by but have to walk a long ways to reach less expensive places. Parking is difficult
Review 66:Rooms where big and had high ceilings Big windows facing the water modern Bed and couches Very clean and baby friendly- had cribs for my two children - check out the migro's gas station for breakfast in the morning.
Review 67:Bathroom and furniture was a bit outdated Bed was actually 2 singles
Review 68:Clean Great location with a view on the lake Good value for money 5 star facilities can be used just accross the streat
Review 69:Not aware this was connected to Plaza Hotel and had not reception services. Phone, safe and bedside lights did not work Hotel information instruction book were for Plaza and not Villa Toscane Room was basic and not as descibed on website Got better value for less money from 4 star hotel in Montreaux
Review 70:Having to go across the street to the big Plaza Hotel which mostly blocked the view of the lake (kind of added insult to injury!) to register and turn in our key to check out. We also thought 30 Francs an exorbitant price for breakfast.
Review 71:We thought the villa and our room were very charming and comfortable. We had a lovely big terrace which we would loved to have used, but unfortunately, it was rainy and cool.
Review 72:- Ikea furniture - a broken shower cabin - spider webs in the bathroom - sockets are a scarce commodity - The AC was broken on in the room I got first - 30 CHF for that kind of breakfast and service is awful it took 10 Minutes till you had a coffee - one day I did not find a place for breakfast because there were dirty dishes everywhere - Only CC accepted as payment method or cash I booked 2 bedroom acc after complain i got 2 bedroom. Before I was send in a small room on the roof.
Review 73:The date of departure
Review 74:Breakfast (at 30E a head) was served at the sister hotel across the road. The communal hallways were very shabby and the lift only worked going up - not down. The showers were small and you had to step up about a foot to get into it. Whilst it wasn't expensive for Montreux I felt we had been misled to expect a hotel with facilities whereas what we got was just a room.
Review 75:The hotel was quiet.
Review 76:the airconditioner was very old and damaged it did not work. we had to pay for a parking spot outside at the hotel area 15 swf lot of noise coming from the street our room overlooking the street.
Review 77:breakfast
Review 78:Our room showed signs of aging (both sleeping area and bathroom). But the beds were comfortable and newer furniture. Hotel is on the main street, so it is noisier. Water temperature fluctuated in the bathroom when sink was being used.
Review 79:Friendly staff. Claire at the front desk was very helpful. Close to lake. Spacious sleeping area.
Review 80:Lugging luggage up stairs, car park across the road and down the street - so was reception which was not easy to find. The bed was only slightly better than sleeping on the floor.
Review 81:Had a small kettle in the room.
Review 82:Bathroom too Little. Cleanliness poor, ther were ants in the room.
Review 83:The possibility to use the services (swimming pool, gymm) of the associated hotel just crossing the Street. Family room vey big, with a lot of light and confortable.
Review 84:Noise from the street No staff on site. They are all across the street. We were unable to communicate by the in-hotel telephone services with front staff for help with the air conditioning. The telephone number in their information book was not even the right one. The air conditioning did not work. They offered us a small portable fan instead. It was obvious the focus of their attention was on the five-star hotel across the street. It does not deserve the four stars designation. We have experienced far better 3-stars hotels during our present stay in Switzerland
Review 85:The room was spacious and clean. The access to the pool within the other hotel.
Review 86:Soaps were not replaced timely. No disturb sign at the door knob should be respected. Daily room prices vary without explanation. Some (not all) personnel slow to serve during breakfast time.
Review 87:Location is fabulous for the jazz festival. Service is good. Staff at reception desk is attentive
Review 88:This place is tired! The bathroom was like something out of the 70's and you couldn't swing a cat in there! All paintwork is chipped or scuffed. There are no facilities here, all facilities are in the '5' star hotel over the road. The Villa Toscana is over priced and over rated! Spend your money elsewhere! Its more like 2 star!
Review 89:Facilities of sister hotel over the road.
Review 90:A notice is placed inside building to notify guests that reception is across the road ie Royal Plaza but you need access code to see the notice inside. Something has to be done here.
Review 91:I liked it's proximity to main train station(less than 15 min walk) and to restaurants and concert venues.
Review 92:- long black hair under sheets - mysterious stains next to toilet on wall - grubby look & feel overall
Review 93:- Location - Staff in the Hotel for check in (is not the same hotel, it is located across the road)
Review 94:It was a little too pricy but the hotels by the lake, especially during the jazz festival, were all around this price range.
Review 95:The hotel is across the street from the festival halls. The location was just perfect.
Review 96:Villa Toscane did not have efficient air conditioning making the room feel stuffy, especially at night. Ultimately we had to switch to the Royal Plaza and pay additional fees. While the staff was friendly, on more than one occassion, they gave inaccurate information, sending us to restaurants that were closed or shops that didn't seem to exist ie when we reached destination no one had heard of the stores. They couldn't seem to assist w securing transportation to airport. Frustrating.
Review 97:Convenient location Nice staff Rooms at Villa Toscane and Royal Plaza are very nice.
Review 98:Value for money - extremely expensive breakfast, noisy rooms , no enough soap in the bath room, winter blankets in July ; the receptionists did not find my rezervation, trying to suggest a different ( higher ) price for the parking; I was dissapointed bearing in mind my expectations for Swiss quality of services...
Review 99:The location close to the Jazz festival has pros and cons - walking distance but very noisy noisy...because of the road as well as forn the music events in the Park. The comfort but why a winter blankets are used in summer season?
Review 100:This has to be one of the worst hotel experiences in 30 years of extensive international travel. The description of the hotel on booking.com is downright misleading. We ended up calling it the "hotel where nothing works": power points, bar fridge, shower, terrible service. Room 112 was a total disaster, like sleeping the road (which was only a few feet from the windows) and adjacent to the entry so constant guest noise. Room 311, to which we were moved after suffering for a night, was at best marginally better. This hotel is a total rip off. Avoid it if you can.
Review 101:Useful to have access to Royal Plaza facilities, but does not compensate for poor quality of Villa Toscane itself
Review 102:Nice large room, but quite old furniture and bath room. However location made it all good.
Review 103:Near plaza hotel and within the group of plaza, so many facilities. Superb location in Montreux. Excellent breakfast in the Plaza hotel across the street.
Review 104:Long waiting line at check-out
Review 105:Having to check-in across the road, and the movement of luggage from one side to the other.
Review 106:The noise from the street was the only downside.
Review 107:We stayed not in Toscane but in the opposite the road hotel. It was a nice surprise!!!
Review 108:This hotel was conveniently found, on the main street in town and is managed by a larger hotel across the street. Easy to deal with.
Review 109:Nothing.
Review 110:Easy access, the bus stop is just in front of the property. Clean room.
Review 111:Comfortable and spacious
Review 112:No public transport passes provided.
Review 113:Great view from our room. Centrally located.
Review 114:Initial problem with finding the check-in location.
Review 115:Villa room 205 was a lovely spacious room with balconies.
Review 116:Breakfast was way too expensive. The room and bathroom were very small.
Review 117:Great breakfast, nice position
Review 118:Children do not stay for free you will need to upgrade your room to a family room... If you have baby's or under 2 years old
Review 119:Beautiful setting
Review 120:The rest
Review 121:very well located for the activities we planned.
Review 122:Run down place and overpriced
Review 123:No air conditioning in the room, under the roof with 35+ degree... Value for money for a supposely a 4 star hotel!
Review 124:One large room as opposed to two smaller rooms with some privacy.
Review 125:Room enough for two adults and two teenaged kids, but not much more.
Review 126:- kova sänky
Review 127:- loistava sijainti lähellä keskustaa - siistit, persoonalliset huoneet - vastapäisen 5 tähden hotellin palvelut käytettävissä
Review 128:Walking distance to the lake. The room is clean and tidy. Nice scenery from window.
Review 129:Changed to hotel across the road
Review 130:Great location.Beautiful building, fast WI-FI. Large room and king size bed.
