Reviews for Schlosshotel Art Furrer
Review 1:No curtains on windows so I had privacy concerns; had to keep lights out at night. Very dated decor. I felt rushed for breakfast.
Review 2:Location was lovely - great views of castle. Highly recommend visiting the free garden grounds. Staff friendly. Left alone which I like.
Review 3:We stayed nine days. Two rooms. Even though they state up front, parking is very poor and very difficult to navigate down steep slope. They allow huge cars/trucks that take up two spaces. I dreaded parking each night, hoping to find a spot. Breakfast is very limited Swiss style and they add items as you come down to eat. On a scale of 1 to10, I would give the breakfast a 5. Much lacking selection and not replenished for additional arrivals. Had better in the Alps/Murren. Housekeeping was fair and some days our room was never attended to. Even though location is outstanding, I would stay elsewhere. Bedding is old and tired.
Review 4:Convenient to central Brig and that is the biggest positive. Staff is friendly.
Review 5:Not really a dislike ; the check in is semi automated, as the reception is unattended, Entry was by an intercom, it is good that they speak English, the keys were on the reception desk with a card. So too is a wi-fi cde dispenser, which I only found about after going to the room and reading about it in the services directory. Take a docket for each device. The systems work well enough, but would have good to know what to expect before I arrived, hence this info.
Review 6:Good location next to a beautiful park, an old church and near the old town centre. Clean and comfortable. Good wi-fi. Nice breakfast. Easy check out, it is staffed at breakfast.
Review 7:Would have appreciated somewhere to make tea or coffee. Annoying to have to sign into the WiFi separately with a login for each device each time we reentered the building.
Review 8:Very nice breakfast, nice staff. Room was cosy, but clean and comfortable. Close to the castle that was really worth the 8 CHF guided tour, which we wouldn't have known about if we had stayed closer to the station.
Review 9:The breakfast was adequate but slightly uninspired.
Review 10:The view from our balcony was beautiful. It is comfortable and quiet as is Brig. It is a stress free option.
Review 11:The staff were not very friendly, and the hotel really needs to be updated.
Review 12:The Hotel is close to the city center and has a beautiful view of the Castle and gardens.
Review 13:The reception was almost always empty except breakfast time. Guests were supposed to call the hotel to get the keycode to get in my themselves. We couldn't get help from reception like getting adapter or internet token.
Review 14:the location indeed
Review 15:Car parking directly outside hotel was very convenient. The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly at all times. Rooms were very comfortable and extremely quiet with fabulous views. The family run hotel was conveniently located offering a short, pleasant walk into town that offered a range of places to eat and drink as well as interesting sights. There was plenty to eat and choose from at breakfast.
Review 16:Decor is a little 70's. Reception not manned all day so check in is done on an intercom system.
Review 17:Nice sized room. Views are amazing. Location close to town.
Review 18:No boiler. room a bit small. A bit far compared to other hotels near train station.
Review 19:Near city center, with nice view of castle. The staff were nice, and breakfast good.
Review 20:We are backpacking and walking most everywhere possible. The location was just a short 5 minute walk from the train. We also appreciated the cleanliness. Reception help was very good as was breakfast. Good value especially for Switzerland.
Review 21:There was only one chair in the room.
Review 22:Within walking distance of the railway station on arrival and with a free lift to the station on departure. We had a balcony with a superb view of the castle and its gardens. We ate in a nearby restaurant which served excellent food. The hotel was comfortable and quiet even though it was busy.
Review 23:I was fine, no problems
Review 24:This hotel is right next to the castle and it's in a convenient part of Brig. Nice rooms and breakfast. Brig is a great base for Zermatt
Review 25:The bathroom (toilet) emitted a rather obnoxious smell. I flushed and closed the bathroom door and opened both windows. Got better. I informed the hotel manager, thinking maybe it's a bad wax gasket. Uncertain if they even listened.
Review 26:Lovely location. Nice staff. Great Mini bar-more like a nice lounge. Clean and tidy
Review 27:Directions to the hotel given us at the station led us up steep cobbled roads. The direct route is a relatively easy 10-minute walk. We should have printed a map from Google Earth.
Review 28:Our room's balcony overlooked a well-tended park, with views of the Schloss and of the mountains. The hotel has an honor-system refreshment bar, with a selection of wines, beers, and soft drinks.
Review 29:The room were very small and badly eqipped. The beds were 2 singles pushed together with a gap between. This is supposed to be a double bed. The mattress was uncomfortable. The pillows were lumpy. The breakfast was just adequate. I would not stay there again, the hotel has a lot of unrealised potential.
Review 30:The restaurant at the bottom of the steet. The view of the castle.
Review 31:The stuff at the reception mistook us as another guests and they thought we would stay there for another night and she tried to let us leave the hotel as there would be a group coming that day. It was quite rude. Fortunately we didn't need to stay there longer.
Review 32:It was really beautiful with mountains in or out of the clouds around the hotel, 10-15 minutes walk from the railway station, with 24 hours service (phone service at night), we had a nice evening there. They have tea kettles there which is convenient for the customers.
Review 33:While the hotel was close to the downtown area, it was too far of a walk for us so we had to drive for dinner.
Review 34:The hotel had free parking which was a definite plus. The front desk attendant didn't speak much English but she was friendly and we figured out a way to communicate! The room was clean and comfortable. Beautiful view from the hotel of a large church and the mountains!
Review 35:The hotel was in need of refurbishment. The room was small and the yellow decor overpowering. The sheets were made of what can only be described as stretchy, yellow nylon, certainly man made fabric and not what would be expected and did not make for a good nights sleep.
Review 36:Location was central, lovely sunny balcony.
Review 37:Request for walk in shower due to a disability was not addressed until we arrived, shower was in a passage way and not very practical! One of the previous occupants obviously had a dog in the room, could smell dog and sitting in one of the chairs resulted in flea bites on arms, legs and body, not very pleasant. Room was re cleaned on request, however this experience detracted from the stay. WiFi access hit and miss, mostly miss.
Review 38:Location and outlook very pleasant. Collection and delivery to the station was a bonus. Breakfast adequate.
Review 39:Hotel does not make best use of location. Breakfast experience was unpleasant, waitress didn't want to be there, clearing up noisily took precedence over refilling food. Ran out of croissants and sulkily had to go and get some more.
Review 40:Location and view outside. Parking.
Review 41:Although we ordered a double room, this was just two beds pushed together, with the frames keeping the mattresses apart. Seems standard for this hotel.
Review 42:Staff were friendly and very willing to help. Location. Good breakfast selection. Wi-Fi worked well.
Review 43:Parking limited. No restaurant although plenty of good places to eat in the centre providing the weather OK.
Review 44:Very clean. Good breakfast. Friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful views from the balcony. Excellent location and easy to find. Stayed here 5 years ago and very happy to return again. Thoroughly recommend this hotel to others. It was recommended to us by some very good Swiss friends of ours.
Review 45:Better to tell people immediately to park in parking garage (0.40 chf/hour) ...the hotel parking is tiny.
Review 46:Charming rooms Great view of castle Lounge with wine tasting
Review 47:Showers too small. Shower curtains in the way. Poor wifi.
Review 48:Excellent view of castle and mountains. Cery good service. Friendly staff. Nice room. Convenient lication to Altstadt and cable cars to mountains.
Review 49:No personal at reception at 8 pm. You could take any key of the reception, only one note with our room's number on the desk.
Review 50:Extremely good location and very clean rooms.
Review 51:I didn't feel very welcome, though it may have been a language problem (I don't speak German) or some cultural difference.
Review 52:Very pleasant location near the castle, a good 100m away from the noisier town center (though this is a small Swiss town so "noisy" is clearly an overstatement). Following the stream uphill leads to a lovely hike in a canyon alongside cristal clear waters.
Review 53:Breakfast a little chaotic , not enough croissants, if you arrive late bad luck !
Review 54:The large balcony , the view , close to town, free parking at the hotel
Review 55:Internet in our hotel room is weak, must go to the other side of corridor to get connected. Other rooms could have good internet depending on their locations
Review 56:Double room has a Belcony that has a great view ! Breakfast is good, gluten-free food is provided on request. Friendly staffs and services.
Review 57:Small room, outdated decor and bedding, poorly lit bathroom.
Review 58:Location lovely, staff friendly and helpful, pleasant breakfast and lounge services.
Review 59:While staff was not seen, questions were answered by telephone. All in all a nice stay in a clean pleasant room.
Review 60:I did see one bug crawling out of a cabinet!
Review 61:Excellent location
Review 62:Good position and warm welcome! Good night time in Brig
Review 63:Very friendly. Nice rooms. Great restaurant.
Review 64:Everything was great.
Review 65:I enjoyed having a bathroom in the room! The breakfast was exceptional.
Review 66:Booked a room with ensuite and not provided. Room was VERY basic.
Review 67:Bathroom is too small, beds are single and separated.
Review 68:Breakfast and the comfortable bed
Review 69:No air conditioning system
Review 70:Very far from train station, can not check in after 7 pm and no reservation in night time
Review 71:None
Review 72:Table leg loose. Some potentially dangerous electrical sockets
Review 73:Convenient and good value
Review 74:Nice place close to old city,10min from railway station via main street and medieval castle atrium open also in the evening (22.00?).
Review 75:Reception unmanned, but all the keys left on counter….
Review 76:Breakfast and the location. Somewhere secure to store our bikes.
Review 77:Bit outdated, could do with an update.
Review 78:Looking out over small park with the castle next door, absolutely outstanding. Room clean, good bathroom.
Review 79:Very friendly staff, great location. Nothing fancy but very comfortable.
Review 80:Shower over high bath Ok but bit difficult
Review 81:Very pleasant manager and beautiful garden at front of hotel Mountain view from balcony
Review 82:Location and upper lounge.
Review 83:Rooms are average. Breakfast could use an improvement
Review 84:Nice view onto the castle
Review 85:Loved the view of the castle and the mountains from the room
Review 86:Shower was a bit difficult to manage.
Review 87:Location was good, easy walk from train station, lovely vista from room.
Review 88:WiFi was too weak.
Review 89:Cleanliness, location, and free breakfast.
Review 90:Close to train station (10 min) and town centre (5 min). Very nice staff, nice room. Everything is very good. Reception is only open certain hours.
Review 91:tired, dated room
Review 92:location
Review 93:Lack facilities; service not good enough, the receptionist was not always there
Review 94:Close to the castle quite special
Review 95:good location with a car park which is a must in Switzerland . the staff were helpful and friendly and the room and breakfast were excellent .
Review 96:Clean and neat Great location Traditional
Review 97:Reception closing 7.30pm
Review 98:Location close to old town with lots of places to eat; good continental breakfast
Review 99:Nothing
Review 100:Very good breakfast. Within walking distance of town centre for shops and restaurants
Review 101:the decoration is a bit 70th chalet style, but still in good condition
Review 102:convenient location, very nice staff
Review 103:Our Room was equipped with Twin beds which is not convinient for young couple. We expected double
Review 104:-Location -amazing view from terasse
Review 105:The location was great! Right across from the castle, easy walk to town. Price was right, good value. Nice breakfast, friendly staff. Traveled two weeks in Switzerland and this was one of the best hotels!
Review 106:Bit noisy Saturday nights as the town nightclubbers head home!
Review 107:Location, close to town, overlooking the beautiful park and mountains. Friendly owners, breakfast good variety and welcome hot coffee Lounge and honour minibar on top floor incl library
Review 108:Wifi was quite slow. If you want to check in after 8 PM then you need to inform the hotel in advance and get the PIN for entry.
Review 109:It was walking distance from the station and our balcony was overlooking the garden of the Castle.
Review 110:Hard to find by car even with GPS as Address was incorrect.
Review 111:Schloss was very close and walking distance to old centre was short. Pleasant stay. Good value for Switzerland.
Review 112:It is a bit noisy at times (you can hear the neightbours using the bathroom and open and close the doors quite clearly) and the wifi only worked at one little spot in the hotel (difficult to find) - one should enter username and password every time again...an excuse not to check your e-mails....
Review 113:The convenient and beautiful location, the excellent service, the stunning view from my balcony and the breakfast with the best freshly baked bread ever- excellent value for money!
Review 114:We checked in on a Sunday and, while our key was ready and waiting for us, there was no one there to welcome us and fill us in on the hotel - like to see a friendly face on arrival.
Review 115:The hotel was clean and airy, with a great lounge and bar area with free wifi.
Review 116:By Swiss standards, I found this to be a very comfortable budget hotel. The desk is not always staffed, but I found the staff very helpful. The room was large, and we had a good balcony. For a continental breakfast, there was plenty of choice.
Review 117:The single room has sink and shower in the room. The toilette isseparate, across the hall. Very inconvenient. Price should be lower forsuch room.
Review 118:Friendly staff, clean, right next to the castle,10' walk from thetrain station
Review 119:The room was a bit cold, no heaters working. I couldn't find a way to permanently switch on the lights in the shared living room without motion sensor.
Review 120:The lady at the reception was extremely kind and friendly. Really nice the shared living room at the top floor
Review 121:No staff available if you check in after 8pm. Had I not contacted the hotel prior to my stay, i would not have been able to access the hotel as I would not have had the door code.
Review 122:Comfortable, clean bedroom. Breakfast was usual Swiss affair, but plenty was available.
Review 123:No tea making facility, but this is not unusual in Switzerland.
Review 124:Comfort, quiet, good continental breakfast, friendly and helpful staff and good base for touring by train.
Review 125:Terrible Internet connection, wifi did not work at all in our room, had to sit in hall to use and then the connection was not good. Until the last moment I would have said the hotel staff were unfriendly and uninterested in helping us at all. Asked advice on what to do and staff did not even know the castle next door was closed on Mondays. But as we were about to leave we were offered a lift to the train station.
Review 126:Nice aspect view over castle and park.
Review 127:Problems with Visa card at checkout, experienced also by another personbefore me. The card terminal should be fixed. Late arrivals: at 8 pm thereception was not staffed, therefore the door was closed. However, youjust ring the bell, give your name (if you've booked) and thehousekeeper will give you the code to enter. The key with my name was onthe reception desk. (I was one out of 4 such late-comers.) Although Iappreciated the personal touch, I would have preferred that at 8pm thedoor be still open... This is not a real problem, just a glitch, if Imay say so.
Review 128:The room was a little tight but well equipped, clean, recentlyrefurninshed shower and bathroom. The small balcony with view on thecastle of Brig and the surrounding mountains was probably worth at leasthalf of the price. The area is also rather quiet in the evening.
Review 129:Onlt criticism was that breakfast needed to cater more for traditional tastes... Ie fried eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage etc
Review 130:Stunning location and views
Review 131:Wifi signal difficult to get
Review 132:Fantastic location in beautiful small town of Brig. We had a spacious double room with view over castle garden and spectacular castle. Short stroll to lovely old town. Friendly staff at breakfast & good choice of food. Free wifi difficult to use as signal weak but other than that a very good place to stay.
