Reviews for Chipman Hill Suites-Sydney Street

Review 1:The wi-fi signal I had access to was insufficient in strength for seamless Skype/Google telephone calls or Netflix streaming on my laptop. Other internet functionality -- using dropbox, sending emails with images, researching websites -- was not problematic.

Review 2:As an artist sketching the city, this location was very central and conducive for walking explorations. Many conveniences, excellent eateries, and attractions nearby. Small kitchen corner fine for my few meals. Will stay with Chipman Hill Suites again.

Review 3:Our bed was uncomfortable...it looked great but the mattress needs to be replaced. It was really bad....Everything else was so good ....I was disappointed as I would like to stay again next time I go to Saint John.

Review 4:The ambience was great, everything we needed/wanted was there. Close - in, walking distance to town.

Review 5:No reception or innkeeper! You must check yourself in with a coded lock box, very impersonal for a pretty place.

Review 6:A beautiful Victorian home nicely modified to an inn . Nice location.

Review 7:I had many questions prior to the visit and staff answered all my questions promptly by email and gave many recommendations on where to eat ,local activities and scenic sites. And the historic grandeur of the building was an added plus.

Review 8:Building 5, Suite 4. Just up the hill feom everything to do in the city of St. John. Nice view from the small deck off the suite. Quiet in the building. Love the Victorian colors and the compactness of the suite. Free inside garage assigned parking too!

Review 9:The house is absolutely beautiful. The moment we walked in we felt at home. Gorgeous furnishings, lovely decor and plenty of places to sit and relax. I wish we could have stayed longer. Close to Market place and restaurants.

Review 10:Leaving!

Review 11:Everyone did all they could to make our stay a pleasant and comfortable one. The suites are full of character and original features. Felt like staying in a stately home.

Review 12:just a weird feeling not having a staff member nearby. The homeless and drug addicted people in the area walking the streets like zombies is of a concern as well

Review 13:located in a very convenient location

Review 14:I booked two rooms, there was a huge gap in the quality of the rooms. The one in the main building was good if s bit run down but suite 14 was accessed from outside and was shabby!

Review 15:The downstairs rooms in the house were beautiful, the glass windows gorgeous. It is too bad they are not utilized for an afternoon tea or cocktail hour, although I realize this would add to the cost.

Review 16:TV in bedroom only 1 arm-chair. Lounge 2 armchairs but non working TV taking up valuable space. Shower poor water flow & very difficult to adjust water temperature.

Review 17:Location

Review 18:Nothing, everything was great.

Review 19:Location, comfort, facilities, bed, service was all perfect. Absolutely no complaints. Would have paid twice the amount for a hotel room at same location, without the homey comfort.

Review 20:A perfect home away from home Cozy, comfortable, clean, beautiful décor and authentic heritage furnishings. I also was offered a discounted rate as I was visiting family in the hospital. Excellent service!!!

Review 21:facilities and enviroment is good, you can do cooking in the room and there is heating at daytime. the location near uptown make shopping convenient. the old architecture with more than 100 years leave you much nice memory.

Review 22:Parking is ver limited except on weekends.

Review 23:Uptown location, ambiance of an historic building. Gorgeous common rooms. It would be a wonderful place for a group (e.g. A small class reunion, or a wedding party)

Review 24:While having complimentary laundry facilities was wonderful, actually getting to use it was hit or miss, as it was dependent on other guests' usage. Also, since these buildings didn't actually have a 'front desk' the steps you had to follow to get to the room/apartment was a little onerous...though email follow up sent by staff ahead of the stay was nice.

Review 25:The building we stayed at was in a great location in the center of the city. Very clean and well maintained. The bed itself and room/apartment in general were super comfy. Having a small kitchen was great, the set up really made us feel like we lived in the city.

Review 26:I had to move the car before 7:30 cause there is no dedicated parking for the hotel. Bed is too high:)

Review 27:extremely charming place and very efficient checkin/checkout system that you don't see the staff great solaruim

Review 28:No designated parking.

Review 29:Lovely room with lots of character. A pleasant surprise from the "traditional" hotel room. Very comfortable king size bed. Kitchenette well supplied.

Review 30:-mold behind wallpaper starting in bathroom -poor/no wifi reception

Review 31:-beautiful old building -convenient location -clean -loved the crisp linens on bed and lots of useful pillows (not the decor ones no one cares about) -friendly/helpful staff - you felt welcome with a greeting card

Review 32:No gym facility as of yet, though there may be a public gym close-by. It wasn't obvious how to adjust the room temperature. No coffee/tea were provided in the kitchen, though the coffee maker was.

Review 33:Location was Great! Right in the heart of the tourist area, across the street from Brunswick Square. Staff (Chelsea) was very friendly. Price was excellent compared to decent hotel options in town. Quiet little character building. WiFi was great.

Review 34:All the windows are nailed shut, so no fresh air and with such an old house lots of smells and odors build-up over the years, so air quality is poor. Both of us had headaches by morning. Would only stay for one night. Also parking is a real pain. Can park in a lot out back, but must be moved by 7AM! So much for the holiday feeling. Option to park in the street, but can't leave car there over night unless you go to the government office and buy a week's pass. Real handy when you arrive late in the afternoon or weekend and offices are closed! Owners should instead buy parking passes themselves and offer them to guests to buy online with their reservations. Fix the parking and air quality problems and review goes from a 5 to a 9 and I'd recommend and come back!

Review 35:The rooms are in a beautiful, historic house, so the setting is quite nice.

Review 36:No available parking anywhere - has to move car early in the morning. Was very strange that it is a self help premises.

Review 37:Close to the center of town. Very nicely decorated house. Bed was very comfortable. Love that it has washer and dryer.

Review 38:Really would have liked some tea and coffee in the room. There was no where nearby to buy a small quantity. Only place we have stayed that did not provide it.

Review 39:Very comfortable . Liked having the free laundry

Review 40:that I couldn't stay for the whole of my time at the Geopark conference.

Review 41:location, choice of pianos to compose on, company of other guests, architecture. I wrote 3 songs inspired by the Stonehammer Geopark while staying with you, and partly booked the accommodation because I could see a piano in a picture even though I didn't know if I would be in that building! I never met a member of staff at all, so couldn't comment on that (above), but put 'good'.

Review 42:Limited off-street parking but good options were available at no cost.

Review 43:Beautiful, historic and opulent building within easy walking distance of downtown.

Review 44:With a crawling baby, a floor not cleaned properly was a discusting mess on his clothes. Very disappointing to see hair from god knows how many different people on him.

Review 45:Liked the old world feel of the place.

Review 46:Nothing

Review 47:-Price. -The comfiest bed in the world. The building was beautiful. -No check in (they left us a code for a lockbox to get our key, and an envelope with our room key inside. It felt like a treasure hunt) -Kitchen area in every room. -Very clean, quaint, and quiet.

Review 48:Info to get into the Inn and retrieve keys were exact and a receptionist was not necessary. The warm inviting entry and the curved staircase gave a feeling of old world elegance and the solarium was a delightful place to read and relax. Our suite was clean and well equipped and location most convenient to walk downtown. My husband and I would recommend it and come back again.

Review 49:Didn't care for the noise, either a rattling air unit or street noise from a fairly busy street.

Review 50:The room was clean, though a bit loud from either a window unit air conditioner or street noise if windows are left open, at least in our location. We chose the latter. I had a hard time sleeping, but my husband fared better. The bed was comfortable. We didn't use the kitchen except for the coffee maker, though it seemed to have everything necessary. The room is cleaned upon request (hanging a tag on the door). Basic, reasonably priced. Some parking available for free. Or location was near central uptown, so everything was very accessible.

Review 51:The one we stayed in was a lovely century home . It was nice just to walk through the common space to view the homes character and charm. It was clean and quiet and comfortable. There was lots of common space , inside and out. We enjoyed our stay.

Review 52:-the cleaning schedule was changed twice so we never got our suite cleaned, although we did receive more towels -parking on the street

Review 53:-great location (walking distance to bars, restaurants, farmers market, etc.) -bed was crazy comfortable -full size kitchen and fridge -very clean -other guests kept to themselves and were all kind people

Review 54:The location was very convenient; located in the heart of downtown, and walking distance to the Saint John Marketplace, the waterfront, and Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. The facility itself was quite decadent, and the room accommodations were definitely worth the money and more. One of the few things I got from this was the sheer sense of privacy. It was as if I had gotten a fancy little home away from home. Definitely would recommend to friends/family traveling here.

Review 55:no interpersonal contact, so if you are looking for service, this is not it.. But good value for the money.. Furniture was a bit tired.. but again a good value

Review 56:Great value.

Review 57:Lovely house and very personalised welcome. Bed really comfy

Review 58:There were no staff at the premises

Review 59:Fairly comfortable, but small. A queen size bed would always be our choice ,but won't work in this room

Review 60:No one to address if you have a problem.

Review 61:Beautiful historic house, best location, cosy.

Review 62:A bit cramped (studio).

Review 63:Charming little apartment in a lovely old building. Close to boardwalk and market. Good little kitchen. Helpful staff.

Review 64:Very convenient location, and a beautiful building which turned out to be one of the interesting things to see in St John.

Review 65:Very easy to find and near to downtown.

Review 66:Perfect location, right downtown St John! Near restaurants, bars, shops. Loved the stay here!

Review 67:Wonderful historic home beautiful close to best part of town

Review 68:Great to be there at Christmas time. Beautifully decorated!

Review 69:I've stayed at a number of the Chipman properties in Saint John and they never disappoint. Great room and customer service.

Review 70:Comfortable bed Cozy Beautiful older home

Review 71:Parking not so great! There was a mouse in the room, nothing was done when staff contacted by email!

Review 72:Nice place, clean and comfortable.

Review 73:The restored old building was absolutely beautiful, and the room was big, clean, comfortable, and a great price. It was a wonderful stay.

Review 74:Need to buy a parking permit

Review 75:Decor, architecture, history, location.

Review 76:The most incredible place I've ever stayed. Utterly delightful. Huge bed. Wonderful experience.

Review 77:carrying luggage to 3rd floor

Review 78:the area, all the parks, the gorgeous landscape

Review 79:noisy, hard to park, hard to find the key

Review 80:clean, room deco

Review 81:Proximity to shopping and dining. The historical splendour.

Review 82:I found the fact that there was not a person to talk to very cold and impersonal. Everything was done by email and phone which for us being on the road, was quite inconvenient. No one there to personally ask for recommendations for restaurants, etc.

Review 83:It was well located in the heart of Saint John and was a very beautiful old home. The architecture was gorgeous!

Review 84:Room service was provided only upon request. On our arrival Internet did not work. We had to call for it. We also had to call for garbage pick up and tawel change. Parking is also a bit limited (A very tight 3 spaces only on hotel ground.

Review 85:The kindness of the staff. The old furniture style and hotel architecture.

Review 86:Only two spaces for parking. Have to park on street and chose to go to parking commission to get parking pass, rather than move car to avoid tickets at certain times. Easy to find parking on street. Surrounding neighborhood is tired looking.

Review 87:The room and sitting rooms very attractive and large. Furnished with some antiques and house restored keeping the beauty of the house intact. Bed was comfortable. The kitchenette well equipped with kitchenware if you chose to prepare food in your room.

Review 88:I only wish we had more time there. It was beautiful!

Review 89:We stayed at the mansion on 71 Sydney Street. It was absolutely fabulous! I can't say enough good things about it. It had everything we needed and more! I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 90:You can't open the windows and the air con unit was a bit noisy, but we slept well enough. The instructions you need to arrive only just arrived in time before we left the UK for our holiday.

Review 91:Beatutiful old building and the room was lovely, with huge bed which was about five foot off the floor. Great central location

Review 92:Great location and wonderful rooms.

Review 93:Great location, beautiful old house.

Review 94:Old world charm. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Great stay and very quiet.

Review 95:Super comfy bed and the mini kitchenette.

Review 96:Third floor accommodations without an elevator. Tough for older people to negotiate.

Review 97:The location was great.

Review 98:Parking was stressful

Review 99:Loved the location and beauty of the historic building.

Review 100:Long instructions

Review 101:Architecture and decor Cleanliness Feeling of home (very comfortable) Free parking Bedding

Review 102:parking was difficult and no one on the facility to speak with face to face

Review 103:Great location, charming and beautiful.

Review 104:A little difficult to find in St. John.

Review 105:Beautiful Inn. Very comfortable.
