Reviews for The Moffat House

Review 1:The only suggestion I would make and it is by no means a critical remark but I'd suggest that the lighting over the house number be brighter so it is easier to see. We arrived when it was very dark and it was difficult to see the house number from the road.

Review 2:We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Suggested some lovely restaurants to eat at and although we didn't have a reservation for these places, we did find a very nice pasta restaurant that we enjoyed a meal at. This was our first stay at The Moffat House and we would return there again and recommend it to our friends. It was a lovely, warm B&B and the individual suites very comfortable.

Review 3:Hard mattress flat pillows road noise+++ (intersection of 2 busy roads) Limited breakfast options Much too expensive for what you get.

Review 4:Lovely ambiance and charm of the old home. Spacious room.

Review 5:3 flights of stairs to get to our room. A good heart pumping workout with and without luggage.

Review 6:We enjoyed the history of the house. The décor, wood and furnishings in the common areas and rooms. There was a delightful and tasty breakfast.

Review 7:Not offered coffee or tea until 10 or 15 minutes into breakfast, and then, only coffee. I had asked the night before for decaf - coffee or tea and they said they could do tea - but this was never offered. Sorry, but this is essential to start of the day. Tea in room had neither milk nor sugar. Also, the shower in our beautifully appointed bathroom needed an engineer to figure out how it functions.

Review 8:Room, bathroom and view were excellent, but there needs to be a sign which is visible from the road - esp. since it is right at the corner.

Review 9:This is just a slight point. In the advertisement we read, the room was advertised as having a flat screen tv. On arrival, the room was indeed everything we had hoped for, with one exception. The tv provided was small and old, with only basic cable provided. Everything else was delightful!!

Review 10:The home was historic and cosy. The owner was a very interesting individual, and we spent a good deal of time discussing various interesting topics over breakfast. The food was good. All in all, a very positive experience! The ambience was very warm.

Review 11:On the corner of a busy street. Pillows and mattress not very comfortable. With older homes the water was not the greatest. Hardly any water from bathroom tap. And in the shower the temperature changes - I assume from other people using water at the same time.

Review 12:Staff pleasant. Nice breakfast, & Wi-Fi

Review 13:3rd floor was a little too hot during the night for a comfortable sleep with windows closed due to traffic noise.

Review 14:It was all so clean and comfortable-very homey and inviting after our long drive in traffic.

Review 15:Our stay at the Moffat House was perfect. Our room at the top of the stairs was quiet, clean had a great view in two directions of an older stately part of Peterborough. The breakfasts were delicious: eggs, toast, bacon, juice and coffee or tea. On the second day of our stay we chatted with our host, Doug, and found he was pleasant and very interesting. We'd definitely think of coming back to the Moffat again.

Review 16:we had one of the suites that has been renovated, this included a huge tub within an updated bathroom, there was an additional room that was great for doing internet or reading the paper.

Review 17:The only thing a litle off-putting was that the body wash, shampoo and conditioner came in large bottles rather than personal use., but this is a small thibg.

Review 18:The room was large and comfortable with a very comfy bed. The house is a treasure. Our room had a lovely sitting room one step down from the bed/bath area and a small balcony overlooking the garden. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, although someone with a large appetite might want more on the plate. It was sufficient and tasty for us. The towels wer soft and luxurious. Our ensuite included a large soaker tub and a lovely glass shower. This B and B is an excellent value and a treasure.I would give it a 9.5/10

Review 19:Noisy road traffic. Breakfast was boring (bacon & eggs and fruit salad, coffee, oj). Showerhead didn't work properly. Our host was not very approachable. Did not seem to be interested in his guests. Our hostess stayed in the kitchen - said hi. At the end of breakfast our host was pointing out routes on a local map on the breakfast table. His fingernails were long (OK maybe he plays guitar) but his nails were dirty. Not a good mix when serving food! Would not stay here again nor would I recommend.

Review 20:Our room was nice and cozy. Within walking distance to downtown.

Review 21:My room was beautiful, full of light and spotlessly clean. Room had a kettle to make tea. The tv had a wide selection of channels and the wifi worked well. Breakfast was delicious. The host and hostess were pleasant and attentive, answering any questions about local activities and recommending items of local interest.

Review 22:The hospitality was warm and informative. Breakfast was good. Hosts were helpful! Home was lovely and inviting. Would stay there again and encourage others to do so as well.

Review 23:Breakfast was a little underwhelming.

Review 24:The century home was beautiful. The dining room stained glass window was a focal point.

Review 25:Breakfast good but a bit on the light side.

Review 26:Comfortable and cozy rooms. Very clean & well appointed.

Review 27:Room was a bit stuffy, could have used more air flow

Review 28:Nicely furnished, lovely old home

Review 29:quiet unobtrusive hosts high quality breakfast easy parking close to downtown and other sights comfortable bed and room helpful hosts

Review 30:Older home that has been nicely renovated on the interior. Room was spacious, clean and well equipped. Very nice.

Review 31:We paid a bit more for the suite but it was well worth it.

Review 32:The squeaky floors made us uncomfortable. We tried not to walk around too much. I love hardwoods but I think guests would be more comfortable if that room was carpeted

Review 33:Beautiful house, wonderful host, breakfast was good and they were so accommodating We would go back

Review 34:Well, I only stayed one night and it was comfortable and quiet as I hoped. The beautiful old house gives you that warm cozy feeling and has a lot of character. Breakfast was terrific, starting off with a delicious dish of berries and vanilla yogurt ... Yummy! I would consider staying here again if I am ever visiting Peterborough in the future.

Review 35:Moffat house is a beautifully restored older house in a lovely area of Peterborough, a short 15 minute walk from downtown. My room (the Moffat suite) was very comfortable, and the hosts are pleasant and welcoming.

Review 36:The old hardwood floors creaked very loudly. More area rug coverage would help minimize the noise. We were conscious of making noise ourselves, but also hearing when there was someone in the room above.

Review 37:Breakfasts were very good; room was furnished very well and there was a separate sitting room with TV. Proprietor was friendly and helpful. Central air conditioning was good to have because of the warm weather.

Review 38:Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed with private bath. Only negative was the 3rd floor climb but worth it when you got there! We would come again.

Review 39:The water pressure wasn't as strong as I would like, but I was on the top floor, and this is a very minor problem overall.

Review 40:The house was well-maintained and had history behind it. It was very relaxed and comfortable.

Review 41:Two light bulbs missing. Also, it is the first time at a B & B that I have seen a suggestion that a tip be left. I left a tip but it was strange.

Review 42:Very comfortable room, great parking, decent breakfast and a very relaxed atmosphere. Host was very pleasant and accommodating.

Review 43:wi fi was down most of the evening while I was attempting to prepare material and readings for the two days ahead. No fault of the inn however.

Review 44:old fashioned country feel to the inn, the deluxe bathroom was amazing with heated flooring tiles, large deluxe shower and designer corner tub. The bed was also very comfortable.

Review 45:Uninspired breakfast. Sarcastic host. I was with my mother who is asenior and she had to climb to the third floor. Feel this should havebeen mentioned when we booked that particular room. Photos led us tobelieve that the room had a double bed pullout. It was actually a single"cot" and not very comfortable.

Review 46:Pleasant century home. Well located in the Peterborough area.

Review 47:No elevator and quite a hike to the top floor with heavy luggage

Review 48:Good location - knowledgeable owner who recommended evening entertainment/area knowledge Tastefully decorated in the style of this 100 year old building but with all modern amenities. Towels and washroom requirements all included. Lovely breakfast around a family table with other guests made a very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended. Would certainly stay here again.

Review 49:A king bed would have helped for us. It was noisy with the window open and stuffy with it closed. The bathroom floor was dirty. The TV in the sitting room needs an upgrade.

Review 50:/The room was large and comfortable. The sitting room was a bonus. The breakfast was excellent. It is a charming property with an owner knowledgeable about its history and helpful about activities in Peterborough. Good shower.

Review 51:Bigger sign needed. Given the price, breakfast was disappointing: portion size and variety of food options could use a boost.

Review 52:Personable owner; quiet location; well kept home/ accommodation; clean and tidy.

Review 53:Bed is different from one we have at home and my wife found her back uncomfortable in the AM

Review 54:very clean and interesting surrounding. Interesting history also

Review 55:The hosts, Doug and Angela Dobney, were impeccable. We especially liked our nice conversations with Doug at the breakfast table every morning. We're looking forward to return to Peterborough just to stay at the Moffat House again.

Review 56:The moment you walk into The Moffat House you feel a calm & serenefeeling wash over you.It is like stepping back in time to an era wherethere is not the hustle & bustle of today's society. The rooms arespacious & very nicely decorated. We honestly felt as if we were theonly ones there.

Review 57:Quiet, Very comfortable, relaxing, near restaurants and other amenities, very welcoming . I would stay there again and would recommend it to others.

Review 58:owner was accomadting since it was a BB and we were a late arrival he needed to agree to our arrving after the usual check in hour. room was clean bathroom floor was heated

Review 59:We chose the room because of the description in the advertisement which stated that it had a fireplace. It did in fact have a fireplace but it is not a working firep0lace and the faux coals were merely plastic, lit from behind. It gave off no heat and was not very convincing.

Review 60:The house is beautiful, old and well-preserved. The room we stayed in was lovely, tastefully decorated, very comfortable and roomy. The ensuite was well appointed and the little sitting room off the bedroom was a nice touch.

Review 61:You may have to walk up three floors to get to your room, as I did. Okif you don't have a lot of luggage that I use to carry binders, computeretc. plus clothing bag, toiletry bag and a breathing machine. When Iarrived there was a heating air-conditioning truck parked. The followingmorning when I got up to shower, there was no hot water. When Imentioned this to the owner, she said she didn't know about the lack ofhot water. I feel I should have been told the night before so I had achoice of finding alternate accommodation.

Review 62:Owners were friendly. The location was fair. The cleanliness wasexcellent. Nice breakfast. Comfortable bed. Wireless Internet access.
