Review 2：Everyone was so nice and helpful. I came alone thinking I'd stay that way. Ended up meeting people and having an amazing time!

Review 3：Best built and maintained hostel I have ever stayed in with prime location overlooking bay in town. The 2 bunk beds per room arrangement was also great for sleeping

Review 4：The wifi was terrible and not available at all in the rooms. There was not enough seats in the common area when the hostel was full. A short explanation/tour of the property on arrival would have been helpful.

Review 6：Very crowded hostel. Limited parking. Sordid gravel parking lot with rotting discarded clothing, mud muck, trash, signs of theft (cut security cable for bike discarded on ground), abandoned vehicles filling with mosquito water and trash, giant unavoidable undercarriage-smashing pothole @ entrance, hemmed in by overgrown brush. Creepy & off putting. Only thing I didn't see was discarded pipes & needles. Ugh.

Review 7：Charming common area, well-stocked and maintained kitchen, clean bathrooms with lots of free showers, ocean-view rooms, beautiful & quiet location, free parking, walking distance to everything.

Review 10：You rent a towel not deposit of stay couldn't get one an till 2nd day of stay at same price. The wifi is poor with not much strength or data transfer. Sauna opens 6pm-10pm have to wait for staff to turn it on.

Review 15：I stayed at the Whaler guesthouse for 3 nights and each night I was given a different room and bed. Apart from the hassle, having to check out by 11 and to check back in at 4 was unfair in terms of money, as I indeed paid for 3 days and not for parts of it.

Review 25：Counter service staff are too wonderful in serving and handling guests needs: 1) Ben and Julie pretend to be friendly to guests however their non-verbal communication shows hostile and impatient work attitude when interacting with guests. 2) Never treat guests as idiots and give misleading and false travel information to guests which show uncaring manner to travelers. 3) Don't be too money-minded as you are not running a 5-star hotel. $2 will be charged for towel, $1 will be charged for printing bus schedule, $5 will be charged for staying in a wrong bed. You are a so-called HI hostel which serves mainly budget and price-sensitive travelers. 4) Never meet anyone like Julie and Ben -- unprofessional, impolite, mean & so self-centred. 5) Travelers from Asia are not recommended to stay at HI Tofino.

Review 26：Parking is pretty limited. Had to leave car keys with staff in case others had to get out. Beds in a four person room were just bunk beds and a tad short for tall folk.

Review 42：Loved the building, the variety of activities, the large and well managed kitchen. I was with three young adult grandchildren and we shared a suite. It worked out really well and made a holiday in Tofino affordable. I really appreciated the sitting/reading room with comfortable seating and expansive views, gave me quiet time while the "kids" played pool. also liked the board game selection. I recommend this hostel to any family holidaying on a budget. It made our short visit to Tofino financially possible and we really enjoyed our stay.

Review 43：This bed was so comfy! One of the comfiest I have stayed in throughout my 'hostelling' life. The hostel is right on the water and nicely tucked away from the busier parts of town. The only bad part about this hostel, as friendly as the staff was, they idnt give us any tips or recomendations on things to do during our stay. They didnt tell us about the hostel and we were left clueless? I still dont know if there was a Sauna, or a breakfast, or how the communion dinner worked.

Review 47：All though signs were posted clearly it needed to be enforced that guests should 'properly' clean (with soap) their dishes, plus dry them and put them away. Most of the time the dish racks were left full. Checkout is at 11am, when I returned to my room at 930am (Jan 2) to finish packing I found my door open ajar and unlocked, my personal things moved on my bed and the linens removed. I wasn't happy as I'd left valuables in my room. Somehow my booking got mixed up and only showed for 1 person rather than 2 so luckily they were able to still accommodate when we were checking in.

Review 48：The atmosphere with the gorgeous views from the dining and living area, the cozy fireplace and the overall order and cleanliness made this a wonderful place to stay. Gary, the new manager, was helpful, engaging and charming. Super bonus that he made economical dinners for those who requested and allowed them to help cook the meals and learn. He really is an asset to this hostel and I think with some proper guidance of the staff he's going to make the ratings soar even higher!

Review 49：We've travelled all over and Whalers really was great! Only four beds in the dorm which really does minimise disturbance. Great kitchen and spacious dining with a view! Clean, ample bathrooms with hot showers! Pool table and fantastic location to downtown Tofino! Opportunity each night to cook dinner with other guests. Yummy food for only $7 and a great way to meet your fellow hostel guests!!

Review 53：the door to room did not close properly so every time someone came in the door the door made a huge slamming noise and woke us up the parking situation was chaotic - people were double parked (on purpose) but maybe didn't give their keys to the staff? so the staff kept contacting us about moving other people's cars the mattress was very hard - a camping mattress on top would have helped
