Reviews for Youth Hostel Grindelwald

Review 1:Well.. no bad experiences.

Review 2:Everything about this hostel is nice, About 20mins walk from train station or a short bus ride. Reception takes time to brief all the information with a smile. I stayed in a 4 bed dormitory and was spacious, clean room, comfortable bed and a cupboard with locker. Eiger north face view from room was amazing. There are enough showers and toilets on floor. Good breakfast to start your day and also delicious dinner. Fire place and TV was cozy and nice to catch up with others in the evening. In short, excellent stay.

Review 3:I only wished I had wifi access in the room because I stayed in the new building and had to walk outside to communal space in the rain to use wifi

Review 4:Very nice friendly staff who helped me really a lot to make my stay comfortable and also make my trip precious. Also there were lockers, one for each guest, in a dormitory. It was good to have it because I didn't have to keep all of my stuff in my baggage but leave some frequent-use stuff on the shelf in the locker, and didn't have to make sure the luggage was locked all the time. The communal space was large and fancy.

Review 5:My wife and I and 2 married children were given a tiny room where there was barely space for our suitcases. Meanwhile there was a larger room vacant next door. My wife was diagnosed with a herniated disc the day before so we had to shorten our stay because the single bunk bed was extremely uncomfortable for her. Even with such extenuating circumstances there was no refund and little empathy. That was very disappointing.

Review 6:The location is stunning!

Review 7:There will be a lot of insects flying into the room and there is no wifi provided in the room, you need to get out to another house to get the wifi.

Review 8:The common area is comfortable to stay and the view of the mountain is good.

Review 9:have to climb a steep slope to get to the hostel

Review 10:large window mountain view spacious dinner area with snow capped mountain view individual locker for each bed

Review 11:Breakfast on the deck, looking up at the Alps was my absolute highlight! The view is phenomenal. The staff was very kind, and spoke in English very well. The room was clean and I was happy to at least have a sink and a separate room for our family.

Review 12:Our room is not in the main building,, there is no wifi at all. We can wash our clothes in the laundry room and hang the clothes there. It is good. U must take the bus. The slope is very steep. Check the bus schedule first cos it is not frequent.

Review 13:The room is clean n there r lots of shelves to put our things. There r two toilets n two bathrooms for ladies n gentlemen. Very convenient. We have no problem with shared bathroom.

Review 14:the only thing I could complain about would be there was no hot water for a day. That's the only negative about my experience here.

Review 15:I loved the friendliness of the staff as well as the free breakfast. Everything was exceptional and I'll never forget my time in grindelwald.

Review 16:no hot water supply, staff are not helpful, only 1 microwave for cooking food(no water, no cup, no bowl is supplied, ecxept only when breakfast)

Review 17:nice enviroment

Review 18:You can Eiger from the restaurant. Location itself is not convenient, but with free bus ticket it takes just a few minutes can you arrive at Grindelwald train station. Breakfast and dinner are both abundant and delicious.

Review 19:Although the location is excellent but it is steep 1 km road from the station so its difficult for aged person to walk. Bus facility available and one should check the bus before coming to this hostel.

Review 20:Location

Review 21:We paid over $200 per night for myself and 2 teenagers. I just thought it was way overpriced for a youth hostel experience. Better to get a std hotel room.

Review 22:Staff was friendly and helpful

Review 23:I do not think that price we paid is worth what we got. We added money for breakfast and it was also not worth. The breakfast did not have a wide range and they looked unappetising. The wifi was extremely weak and was not assessable from our room.

Review 24:Two complaints: 1) owing to the fact that this hostel values community, they have limited wifi access to the common area. Well meaning but slightly inconvenient. 2) hosteling with my whole family was hard. Parents and sister all in one room on bunks is not ideal.

Review 25:I traveled to this hostel with my family. We were stunned (pleasantly) by the location. Our room looked out on the Jungfrau peak, it was spectacular. We were also close enough to town to walk, and close enough to drive to Interlaken, and Lauterbrunnen. Also, the staff was excellent and SO helpful. When we arrived we were immediately given advice about where to eat in town, use of the facilities (laundry, wifi, etc.).

Review 26:It's far from the train station, with only an hourly bus running. The last bus from the station is 6:45pm. Inconvenient.

Review 27:Located up mid level of the hillside, with a window and balcony with a mountain view.

Review 28:the walk from the train station in the snow, it's all uphill and extremely difficult..but there is a bus, as long as you're aware of it!

Review 29:Very clean, quiet, warm, with amazing views

Review 30:Nothing. Everything exceeded my expectations of a hostel.

Review 31:If your thinking about going to Grindelwald and staying in this hostel - do it!! Comfortable, clean, friendly staff, beautiful outlook. Welcomes families!!

Review 32:The only thing I was unhappy was Wifi. I could use wifi only lounge (Ground floor). It was quite uncomfortable for me.

Review 33:Although i had to get in bus, the hostel was located in the middle of amazing nature. What a splendid hostel !

Review 34:Having to pay for coffee or tea during the day. Free hot water would be nice so guests can make their own.

Review 35:Dedicated helpful staff, especially reception. Physical setting, reasonably central and with glorious views. Great for families.

Review 36:The staff in the kitchen is very very bad-manned, with long face to the guests. Hot water costs 3 euro, so expensive and unreasonable. We paid 3 euro and asked for 3 bottles of hot water. The vicious woman in the kitchen was very unhappy for our request and poured boiling water to the last drop of the bottle and went back to the kitchen. So evil and vicious.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Staff was quite friendly but they can sometimes be quite long-winded. I waited for 30 min. to get checked in as the staff was on the phone and then the lady before me in the queue took quite long. Location may be a problem for inactive people, as it's a 15 min. walk from the train station and involves going up a dirt trail. No problem for me. No kitchen (microwave oven available tho!).

Review 39:Great internal decorations: exactly how you expect a mountain hut to be. Great views - love the balconies which allow you to breathe the mountain air and look ever so clearly at the Eiger. Clean and comfy beds. Nice shower. Nice common areas (where the Wifi works well).

Review 40:If you are not in the membership of the youth hotel ,you will be changed 6francs more for per person !

Review 41:very nice location!15min walking to the train station ,the first day we did not get a nice view ,we requested to change , the staff was pleased to give us a room face to the top of mountain with snow ,amazing !!!

Review 42:ventilation is not ok

Review 43:the staff is very friendly and helpful. We booked 6 beds , they arranged us in the same room. Location is with nice view and quite convenient. Sound-proof effect of the room is good.

Review 44:wi-fi is only in the lobby and there's only few plugs in room, actually only one plug for 4 people bedroom

Review 45:view is perfect breakfast is good!

Review 46:Pillows were in need of replacement.

Review 47:Fabulous views from the main lodge and room. Very good meals. Shower facilities were good with warm water and cleanliness.

Review 48:Sheets and blankets were included, but towels were not. We had to rent them for extra. Booking.com states that parking is free, but it is not free. It is a bit of a hike from the town if you don't have a car, especially if you are not used to the altitude or have kids. There were flies all over the common break room, but there seemed to be flies every restaurant in town, too.

Review 49:The bunk beds were comfortable. The shower was good.

Review 50:Location. And the service spirit. It is located in out of the way place and steep hill.So u must take a bus next to the station. but, the bus doesn't run from 5 p.m. and some staff are little bit rude. And u have to pay extra fee to almost all service u want to get from hostel even if some water...

Review 51:Breakfast and cleaness. the bed is so comfy and the room is quite wide. U will be very satisfied

Review 52:A little on the outskirts of town. No other restaurants or grocery stores in the very near vicinity.

Review 53:Beautiful location with a spectacular view. Huge slide for kids outside and an indoor playroom.

Review 54:This was the most expensive place we stayed at in all of Europe. It maybe competitive with the surrounding areas, but it was still pricey. Thehike up the mountain was grueling dragging our suitcases- wish we hadknown there was a bus- or even a road!

Review 55:The place was wonderful and the views gorgeous! The staff was friendlyand very helpful. It was a great value to have the yummy breakfast aswell as the bus pass that was all included in the price. Our kids lovedthe slide. They still talk about it!

Review 56:Everything

Review 57:Staff and breakfast were really nice!!

Review 58:The staff was amazing and helpful!!

Review 59:wifi only available in common areas, check in took forever and only opens at 4pm

Review 60:spacious clean rooms, good common areas, good breakfast

Review 61:Nothing just be aware you are staying in a youth hostel not a hotel.

Review 62:Location was amazing. Staff were fantastic very very helpful.

Review 63:the view and generous and delicious breakfast buffet

Review 64:too far away from the station. it takes long time if not taking bus.

Review 65:we could enjoy great view

Review 66:No wifi in the room Extremely hard to arrive the hostel from the station. Expensive.

Review 67:Clean.

Review 68:parking is not free.

Review 69:Cleanliness. Outdoor facilities. Nice outdoor dinning area. Our room has sepectacular mountainous view. Value for money.

Review 70:You can enjoy the best view while having breakfast at terrace also in your room.

Review 71:Receptionist is not good nor approachable. Place too far from town.

Review 72:Nothing not convenient at all.

Review 73:Everything!

Review 74:None

Review 75:The trip was so cool to see beautiful place with high mountain surrounding. People moving with ski, snow board and sludge...had a great fun...

Review 76:Excellent view and great breakfast

Review 77:nice location, beautiful view from the balcony, but too many stairs and not convenient with big luggage and with children

Review 78:I forgot my towel. :(

Review 79:Clean room with lots of space. (We had a quad room for four in the family).

Review 80:Can meet different people from different countries.

Review 81:a bit smelly in the public area

Review 82:everything wooden in the mountain area quiet and cozy spacious balcony mountain view nice staff

Review 83:Food was pretty unappetizing; kitchen help a bit too brisk.

Review 84:Check in staff were great.

Review 85:uphill walk!, mattress a bit thin.

Review 86:clean, modern, safe, quiet, great views, great breakfast, excellent staff

Review 87:If you arrive after bus does not run(like 6:45-ish in summer time), taxi should be an option to take.

Review 88:Great view and Clean Room with Shower

Review 89:need addition membership fee

Review 90:Really nice warm welcome service!

Review 91:A little oasis in the mountains. Very natural environment with a breath taking view.

Review 92:Very nice view, breakfast, friendly staffs, cleanless highly recommendable hostel

Review 93:The room is like accommodation, Internet not available in the room. It's too much for the price

Review 94:The location has a amazing view, the receptionist is very helpful and friendly

Review 95:location far from railway station and was not easy to find as indicated especially as it was approaching night in a rainy day. The sign of youth hostel international was not visible enough

Review 96:staff was nice, view of the mountains

Review 97:The shower; not hot enough. No lockers in 4-bedded dormitory. If you want to stay in dorm, book 6-bedded dorm!!!! It is bigger and has locker.

Review 98:The two staff members (Martin and Esther) are really friendly and helpful. Love the balcony of the dormitory room - I can see stars at night.

Review 99:Only a microwave provided for self catering-not even a kettle. Very steep hill to climb to get to the hostel but worth it for the view.

Review 100:Fantastic view of the Eiger from the front balcony. Friendly staff. Good choice for breakfast. Piano, guitar and lots of board games provided.

Review 101:Grindwald town is disappointing with lots of outdoor clothes shops and expensive cafes right on the main road. Food and drinks are expensive and not particularly exciting but if you are on holiday in Switzerland you will already know this. Transport is also expensive up and down the mountains so do some research before you go.

Review 102:Very friendly staff. Nice size room for 4 with stunning views of the Eiger. Large shared balcony overlooking garden and hot tub. Room had large wardrobe, and it's own sink, small table and 2 stalls. Bedding was clean but not ironed. Separate Male and female toilets/showers which were kept clean and tidy and near to bedroom on same floor. Breakfast cereals, bread and jams and also ham and cheese and usual beverages. Tea booked before 10.00 am that day was soup and bread, salad and a healthy lasagne followed by pudding. Plenty of board games and places to sit downstairs, table football, table tennis. For skiing there is a room to keep all your equipment. The bus to town goes every 30mins from 100 metres up the road which drops you down at the station in Grindwald and is free but stops at 6pm in the evening. More walking than you would like with ski boots on but worked well linking you with the main transport links. You can also take a lovely 5 minute walk down into town but be warned this is more like 15 mins on the way back up as it's very steep. It is a lovely spot to spend a few days on a family touring holiday. Ski runs where plentiful and wide with no one on them. Plenty of tracks for scenic walks.

Review 103:The hostel is located on the hill, it's difficult to get there with the skiing equipment, it's better to take a bus. The room for 4 people was stuffy, you have to keep the window slightly open during the night.

Review 104:Very friendly staff, good breakfast and dinner, a lot of place to sit and play the games in the evening. Fantastic view of the mountains.

Review 105:If you miss the bus, it is a little bit of workout to get up to the youth hostel, more so in the winter.

Review 106:Staff are very friendly. The rooms are clean. The window view is breathtaking. There is a very convenient bus service between the youth hostel and major lift stations.

Review 107:too bad the internet did not reach into the rooms in the new building. a bit of a pain to have to go to over to another building to use internet. quite a hike up from the town.

Review 108:comfortable beds with good lighting. fantastic deck and good common area.

Review 109:The room we stayed was in the new building. No wifi in new building and breakfast and other facilities are located in the old building next door.

Review 110:Good mountain view of Eiger Quiet environment Walking distance to train station & town centre

Review 111:little bit of walk until we were there, so if you want to go out at night, a little tricky...

Review 112:very nice staff, lots of rooms to hang out, nice sleeping rooms, good view, very good breakfast

Review 113:As a driver, I did not favor the seclusion from the town of Grindelwald.Though the view was nice, I would rather have stayed in the city.

Review 114:The price, buffet breakfast, and the hotel staff. As is expected inSwitzerland, the staff was friendly and insightful.

Review 115:A little better signage from the train station to the trail to the hostel would have saved some steep steps. It could just be that I was unaware of what to look for.

Review 116:The staff was helpful to foreigners. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked. They courteously separated mature travelers from rambunctious teen travelers.

Review 117:Friendly staff, very cute!

Review 118:It is quite far away from the train station.

Review 119:I like to see Mt Eiger just in the hostel. The scenery is beautiful.

Review 120:Fantastic view in day and night, freindly staff and convenient service(free traffic card in Grindelwald, free gym)

Review 121:Location is a long way from slopes. Understandable give the price though.

Review 122:Clean and modern. Well thought out.

Review 123:Like everything else in Switzerland, expensive! Wi-fi worked only in the main building.

Review 124:Friendly helpful staff. Free parking, decent facility overall.

Review 125:The view.

Review 126:wifi only in public area. Only one outlet in a 6-bed dorm.

Review 127:Helpful and friendly staff. Nice view from the hostel.

Review 128:A lttle hard to find the place.

Review 129:the breakfast and the vegetable soup at night

Review 130:N/A

Review 131:Atmosphere, people, approch, cleanliness
