Reviews for Nakiska Ranch
Review 1:Before we booked we saw that the Ranch had a restaurant onsite for dinner. We drove past a number of restaurants on the way to the Ranch only to discover that, once we arrived, there was no dinner available onsite. Not the end of the world but not ideal to have to drive 25 minutes back the way you came to get to the nearest restuarant having already driven for 5 hours.
Review 2:Nice tip from the owner about nice driving routes/things to do
Review 3:There was no hospitality. It is far from stores so we arrived looking for supper which was not offered. Fortunately we had some food but others were out of luck . The breakfast was expensive and measly
Review 4:Location in Wells Grey Park
Review 5:I was disappointed in the lack of amenities - no soap or shower gel in the shower, no cream for the coffee in the room. I was also under the impression from viewing the website that breakfast was included in the room fee. Had I known this was not the case, I would have been on the road earlier with a breakfast stop along the way. Perhaps this can be clarified in the description.
Review 6:I annoyed the peaceful surroundings as well as the opportunity to meet with other travelers. The rustic cabin was a nice diversion from the run of the mill hotels in the neighboring town. The salmon dinner was an excellent touch.
Review 7:No bad experience. But an ice maker on site and a bath tub would have been nice.
Review 8:The authenticity of a decades ol working ranch smack dab in the middle of Wells Gray Park.
Review 9:The lack of radio and wifi accessibility in bedrooms may be inconvenient to some guests.
Review 10:Charming and quaint accommodation. Excellent dinner and breakfast prepared and served by genial host.
Review 11:There was no wifi signal in the cabin we were in but there was in the dining area which isnt ideal. The beds were tiny. The shower could only handle one person, after that it became cold. The plumbing is a bit archaic. Lars appeared nice and friendly when greeting us, and upgraded our room as he said that it was free anyway. We ate dinner there and even though the food was ok, i think it is a little bit too expensive. The thing which left us with a sour taste was when we checked out he slipped a 15% service charge to the bill and not just on the food but also on the room aswell. I dont mind paying a bit extra for the service at dinner but ontop of the room? For me, i found it slightly shrewd and dishonest. So much for the "free" upgrade... I think i paid in full!
Review 12:It has a nice location and the view from the balcony is nice and serene. The rustic cabin is cute and has its charm.
Review 13:Thought the breakfast was a bit expensive. Location is isolated which is its charm but it would have been good to know as I would have brought snacks and drinks etc.
Review 14:Enjoyed the location close to Wells Grey. The ranch itself and the accommodation provide a pleasant respite and I would have liked to stay for more than a couple of days. Food was good. Enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm and looking over the meadow from the balcony. Nice to meet others and share dinner on the deck.
Review 15:Nothing to dislike
Review 16:After a long drive it was magical to arrive in the peace & quiet of Nakiska. Everything was good, ambiance, food, accommodation and our only regret we were there for only one night.
Review 17:Rundown, no a/c, screens had so many holes the Mosquitos were all over us. Really wished it had a TV too!
Review 18:Lars was a great host. Food was superb. Location to the park was the best. Enjoyed the people.
Review 19:Nothing!
Review 20:Lars was very welcoming as were his 3 dogs! We stayed for 2 nights so were lucky enough to enjoy 2 of Lars' superb home cooked evening meals - the first being salmon and the second steak. Both of these were served with a wide variety of side dishes plus a starter, desert and tea/coffee to finish. Excellent value for money at 35 Canadian dollars per head. You are also able to bring your own wine/beer to the table or if you don't have any, Lars will provide! Breakfast was also fantastic with a huge array of food from pancakes, fruit, freshly baked rolls to omelette, bacon and sausages (at 20 Canadian dollars per head). Nakiska ranch is located about 28km inside the Wells Gray park. This is a beautiful park with plenty of trails, waterfalls and viewpoints to explore - more than enough to keep you occupied for a few days. Lars very kindly provided a map and recommendations as to what to visit, tailored to our needs. The accommodation was very comfortable, but watch out for the mosquitos! Also a little tip with regards to the toilet plumbing ... when flushing the toilet, keep the handle down until everything has disappeared from the toilet bowl. If you don't then it will appear as though the toilet is blocked (and you will start to worry about having to pay to get it fixed!!). All in all a very relaxing place to stay for a couple of days - I would definitely recommend it!
Review 21:Great food. Great host. Fantastic location.
Review 22:Facility is quite basic...
Review 23:Quiet and remote
Review 24:Great cabins in the Wells Gray Park surrounded by an amazing landscape with horses. The cabins are confortable, spacious with a nice terrace.
Review 25:Needs a springclean and updating
Review 26:Nice location, good dinner lots of vegetables and salads
Review 27:- very nice location - friendly staff - nice room on a ranch-:) - dinner is of high quality
Review 28:When we arrived, there was nobody there, so we were not sure we were at the correct address. It felt quite abandoned and weird! The food is expensive for what you get. The starter and the desert were usually not that special and good.
Review 29:The Danish host was quite friendly! The main dish of the food was ok (though expensive) The best thing about this place was the location as it is very close to Wells Gray Park.
Review 30:Our room was quite small with few space to store our luggage but was clean. Outside infrastructure, lawn, garden is ill-kempt, some maintainance would improve overall impression.
Review 31:Excellent service through owner. Good food, ample breakfasts and superb dinners. Free WLAN but with low performance.
Review 32:Very poor value for money. For the price of the nights stay there was very poor beds, old dishes, everything was damp, musty smelling ... And old. Very worn out place. We would never go back.
Review 33:The cabin we had was described as luxury and it definitely wasn't what we would call luxury and it was very dated and we didn't sleep all night as the bed was in the roof and it was extremely hot.
Review 34:The location was beautiful and we loved that we could watch humming birds feeding so closely outside the restaurant. The hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We had dinner which was a set menu and time and as we arrived late and it was so far to town was very welcome. The best part of our stay was sharing a table with a lovely family from New Zealand and without having dinner we wouldn't have done that.
Review 35:No TV. Sloooooow WIFI. Not anywhere close to town (a good 40 min drive from town).Thin walls in the room adjacent to breakfast room so could hear people talking as early as 5:30am.
Review 36:Nice hosts. Tentative. Beautiful scenery and well kept ranch.
Review 37:90+ degrees in the cabin, with a tiny fan. Also the staff could not getthe electric fireplace to turn off. We had to leave the windows open andI got eaten up with mosquitoes! We were also told breakfast would be at8:30 , but when we arrived we were asked if we were checking out, without any food. Management also added $30 for my 12 yr. Oldgranddaughter, but did take it off when I complained. Overall, one ofthe worst vacation experiences we have had!
Review 38:We stayed in one of the wooden cabins, with porch and a great view. You must like this sort of accommodation. We did. It lies in the middle of Gray Wells Park. Dinner is great. 3 dogs keep the bears away during the night. Helmut, NL.
Review 39:Our host 6ft6ins Swiss-Danish cowboy Lars was superb and welcoming. The home made food was amazing - we are fussy vegetarians .. And they really made an effort You could not describe Nakiska Ranch as top end luxury but it was comfy, clean, and a great location We would definitely recommend it - and Wells Gray Park is superb for peace, quiet and wildlife P
Review 40:Uncertainty with check-in experience. The details of the cost of meals were not explained when I arrived, so the bill was a shock as I departed. No part of the bill was unreasonable - great value for the money! - but I did not know in advance what each meal would cost, and I may have made different choices if I had known.
Review 41:Great scenery and close to the scenic hiking locations. Personalized experience - you met the owner, who helped guide your Wells Gray experience. Amazing, plentiful and balanced meals, served family style so all available travellers had an opportunity to meet others.
Review 42:Basic amenities for cost.
Review 43:Great host. Different location.
Review 44:20$ per person for breakfast is too expensive. We stayed two days so it was 80$ for the breakfast only. :(
Review 45:Very convenient for exploring Wells Grey Park. The meals prepared by the owners is excellent and plentiful.
Review 46:no dinner in an isolated location
Review 47:romantic
Review 48:Though the evening meal and breakfast were appreciated, there was noinformation given in advance as to the cost of these.
Review 49:Great location & Cabin, We arrived at 10pm and the owner's went out of there way to cook us a fantastic meal. would highly recommend to anyone.
