Reviews for Grouse Inn

Review 1:Not really a bad experience but the carpet seemed overdue for replacement. We came across a couple of soft spots on the carpeted floor.

Review 2:It was quiet. Good value for the money considering the location and that breakfast was provided.

Review 3:The room has a bad odor in it. The staff was not very helpful when we asked for help regarding the odor.

Review 4:The staff is very flexible with regards to the number of people in the room.

Review 5:Disgustingly dirty. Bed smelled like cigarette smoke (in a non-smoking room). Blood or feces on sheet. Smelled bad. Pretty much the worst place I've ever stayed.

Review 6:Only has location going for it.

Review 7:Perfect location on bus routes for all the places we wanted to visit. Breakfast included. Comfortable, spacious room. Close to main road/junction but no traffic sounds in the room.

Review 8:The place is quite dated and needs extensive upgrades...especially the heating system that had no controls...bathroom needs upgrade...Wifi needs stronger signal....

Review 9:Close to Vancouver, and things we wanted to see and do in N. Vancouver.

Review 10:The internet connection is deplorable for this day and age. Pizzas a bit expensive for the size.

Review 11:They have added a pizza restaurant since my last visit and bicycles for rent.

Review 12:Clogged shower drain when I took my shower. Told the clerk the next morning upon checkout and he didn't seem to care.

Review 13:It was a larger room than I expected with ample seating and space. The microwave and fridge were a nice bonus.

Review 14:Unfortunately the cleanliness of this hotel is substandard. The toilet seat was broken and dirty. Housekeeping emptied the garbage can but that was all.

Review 15:no lift. permanents living on site. no natural light in room due to a wall between window and beds, it was like a small tv/lounge area. sofa bed/couch not comfortable for tv viewing.

Review 16:proximity to grouse mountain. easy to find. breakfast free parking two big beds in room.

Review 17:The first morning breakfast, milk was bitter... they did not even apologize...I know it was complimentary, but...... Also, the lighting on top of the sink besides the bathroom was, in my opinion, useless as the light actually made things in the mirror darker, we could not see ourselves.

Review 18:Location, Location, Location!!! Quietness even though we were in the closest from Marine Drive!! Lots of storage!! The two restaurants near by the Inn (Denny's and Pho) were both excellent!!

Review 19:Located on a busy traffic corner. Tough to get out of. Staff still needs to work on friendliiness

Review 20:Clean and spacious rooms. Pleasant external appearance.

Review 21:Checking into the hotel was a bit of a hassle. I was told that the card that I had used to book the hotel was not permitted and that if I had wanted the room still I had to pay the full amount right up front with a $150 deposit on top of it. :/ The front desk agent was not pleasant about this.

Review 22:I liked that it was so close to one of the main highways and very close to a BC Ferry Location. The price that I had paid for 4 nights was fantastic! and the size of the room I had received was huge! I loved it!

Review 23:Continental breakfast was poor. Staff not able to offer a later check out time as we requested when we booked the room. This was a medical trip so we were not impressed to have to hang our in airport for hours since we were not able to stay later in our room.

Review 24:Rates were low.

Review 25:Pool was not open for first two days. Room smelled musty. Had to keep the a/c on just to keep the humidity down. Room wasn't particularly clean.

Review 26:Location

Review 27:Perplexingly, although this is called the "Grouse Inn", and is a 10 minute drive from Grouse Mountain, where the world-famous Grouse Grind is, the girl at the desk had no idea what we were talking about when we asked about it. Odd. The room was fairly average - would have been a bit of a sad choice if our whole holiday was there, but for one night (and in Vancouver) it was ok.

Review 28:Location is the best thing about Grouse Inn. We were staying on North Shore with the specific purpose of doing the Grouse Grind, so it was great for that. And, for a Vancouver hotel it was probably good value for money (though kinda gross by most other standards)

Review 29:The room furnishings and fittings are getting dated. The breakfast is minimalist, fortunately I planned ahead and had stocked up at a nearby Wholefoods grocery the night before.

Review 30:The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is good for seeing the North Shore of Vancouver or as a stopover on the way to somewhere else.

Review 31:The breakfast food was all processed I can only eat real food - fruit, eggs, nuts

Review 32:The room was very quiet so I couldn't hear traffic - I would not have stayed if I heard traffic - and the bed was cozy

Review 33:carpet inside room needs cleaning; internet does not have enough bandwidth & does not allow skype calls; poor TV; rather old furniture; breakfast room can be quickly packed. My advice to Management: invest in a new toaster so we don't wait in line, 1 toaster is not enough...

Review 34:breakfast is just fine ; Laundry; clean; great location for North/West Vancouver; staff is good. Nice/small play area for kids.

Review 35:Rooms were a little outdated. Don't expect a top notch continental breakfast.

Review 36:Great location at the foot of Lion's Gate bridge. We were able to ride our bikes across to Stanley Park and back. Good restaurants close by (had dinner at Earl's). The motel style allowed us to have our bikes outside our door and easy packing in and out of our room. We left on ferry from Horseshoe Bay in the morning and it was an easy 15 minute drive to get to the terminal.

Review 37:Not the fault of Hotel, but next door room was extremely noisy with lots of people coming and going to well after midnight.

Review 38:It was fine as a stop off before airport. Basic.

Review 39:It looks like the is an old and a newer section to the hotel. We were stuck in the older section. The room we were given stunk really bad, like they were trying to mask other smells such as smoke. I asked for another room, which they allowed me to check out, but it stunk even worse. They were totally booked so we had not choice but to stay in the lesser of two stenches. we kept the window open (no screens) and the fan on high. The carpet was old and crusty and I didn't want to walk on it barefoot after my shower. The comforter was old & heavy and I didn't want to touch it, but it doubles as a blanket. The mattress was old & saggy, and the continental breakfast left a lot to be desired.

Review 40:The floor was dirty in the washroom, the moulding by the washroom looked like a dog had chewed up the corners and the bed was old and very well slept in not comfy

Review 41:It was some wear to sleep and the sheets and towels were clean. Staff were nice.

Review 42:Didn't stay there long enough

Review 43:My favourite hotel that I stayed in... I we stayed in many over our 2 week road trip... Free chai latte !!! What else can I say ...;))

Review 44:Room a little shabby with strong smell of cheap disinfectant. Air conditioner was filthy. Breakfast area was too small for the number of patrons. Breakfast bar has the slowest toasters on the planet.

Review 45:King sized bed was comfortable and clean. Good price compared with other accommodation in the area.

Review 46:This is the first continental breakfast area of a motel that I have ever encountered wasps flying around! This area needs screens on the windows and a screen door.

Review 47:The mattress was fairly firm.

Review 48:They wouldn't let my 82 year mother checkin until after 5 pm, even though two other rooms were there for two days prior. Who checks in after 5?

Review 49:Swimming pool was fun for teenagers and 5 year old.

Review 50:One of the room was not cleaned properly. There were poops smell from the carpet and the area was covered with a mat. My Sister and family were so annoyed with the bad breathing the hole night.

Review 51:As a solo female traveller, I wanted a safe, economical accommodation that was close to Lions Gate for my trip the following day. I liked being in a quiet spot on the ground floor. I liked having the car parked close to my room. I would stay there again.

Review 52:The room smelled terrible and the room was clammy. The comforter was old and heavy and didn't stay on the bed. The air conditioner was noisy. The carpet felt hard and dirty under our feet. The muffins and danish at breakfast were old and hard. Desk staff were cold and impersonal.

Review 53:The housekeeping staff were very friendly and smiled when greeted.

Review 54:the took full amount of money from CC a month before stay---then ripped us off on dog stay price were total inflexible and I would not stay at this place ever again.

Review 55:Wifi was not great and no elevator so it can be tricky getting your luggage up the stairs but only to 2nd floor

Review 56:Good location....clean and comfortable studio type apt. Lots of parking and nice pool.

Review 57:It is obvious that upkeep and maintenance are not a priority. We had a balcony that could not be used because of the dirt and old leaves that had obviously accumulted for a long time. None of the windows had screens remaining in the. It is old and tired and needs some TLC.

Review 58:The location is good with easy access to Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 59:This is the third property on this trip that we have been disappointed in, not so much with the property in general, but with the room assigned to us. We gave a list to reception of the things that needed to be repaired in the room, including a large mould patch on the bathroom ceiling and a curtain rail that was hanging off the wall. We couldn't open the curtain in our room to get daylight as it faced onto some kind of service corridor. We felt that we were being repeatedly penalised and offered the worst rooms because we had qualified for 'Genius Deals' or similar.

Review 60:Excellent North Vancouver location fro accessing Capilano Bridge and Grouse Mountain

Review 61:Awful hotel, nothing like pictures!! We had dirty sheets, whichever covered in hair... Asked for clean.sheets at 10 pm, waited till 11-30 to get them( after asking numerous times) to be told we had to make the beds ourself!!!! Room stunk of mould... Really dirty hotel

Review 62:Breakfast and outdoor pool were ok

Review 63:not the hotel's fault, but rush hour access to surrounding streets can be difficult - something to be aware of

Review 64:nice pool, good breakfast, close to attractions.

Review 65:It's an old motel but if you just need a place to stay it is perfectly adequate.

Review 66:The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Earl's Kitchen and Bar just a one minute walk away is outstanding.

Review 67:Staff was not very friendly, especially the manager. Breakfast room too small.

Review 68:Pool was great for the kids. Room was nice, clean. Great location for local activities.

Review 69:There was a humming noise all evening from somewhere, and the WiFi connection was rarely available though included.

Review 70:The location was very good; the room was clean and had a fridge and coffee maker. Breakfast was also included as well as free parking. There was also an outdoor pool and playground for families. Definitely a good situation for families visiting this area.

Review 71:one day we did not have the cleaner coming in the room

Review 72:the location and the grounds also the staff at the hotel was friendly the parking is great and free the walk to the Capilano very relaxing

Review 73:It's outdated, but it did suffice. The location and price made the looks less important.

Review 74:The location is great. Just cross the bridge and you're downtown or drive up the road and you'll be immersed in nature.

Review 75:Room 180 had a musty damp smell and it was very dark. Also window was jammed shut with a piece of wood which didn't make us feel safe!

Review 76:Location very convenient for ferry

Review 77:The A/C was a little noisy, but was no issue sleeping with it on.

Review 78:Clean rooms with nice amenities, just right for the price. Even the hotel is near 2 busy streets, it was very quiet inside the room. On Capillano road and just across Lion's Gate from Stanley park with bus station 10 yards from hotel with rides to downtown. Decent breakfast.

Review 79:Not really bad but the included continental breakfast was marginal. Juice was good but bread was too white.

Review 80:Location with good access to downtown using transit bus #240, The only way to go at 4:30 pm considering traffic. Room was large, bed comfortable with ready access to Hwy #1

Review 81:Nothing to do with the staff or facilities. Person in car next to me opened car door too wide and scratched my car.

Review 82:The fact that breakfast and parking are included in the price - not a full breakfast but decent continental with fruit, cereal, toast, waffles, etc.

Review 83:I booked a suite with king bed and pull out sofa. I checked to see if the pull out sofa would be ok to sleep on for my son and they said yes on the phone. When we got to the room there was no downey or blankets available for the sofa and the staff said they didnt have any to give us "but we can give you 2 sheets?" Man I was not a happy camper, and their attitude was "I couldn't care less."

Review 84:The price

Review 85:The odour in the recent room we stayed in. The bed was also hard.

Review 86:We liked the price and location. Some rooms are a bit better than others. We have stayed here and liked the room we had before.

Review 87:I was there for a very short overnight stay. Not long enough to use your facilities. However, staff was friendly and my room clean and comfortable. The location excellent for my needs. Would recommend this property.

Review 88:I was charged for my room before my cancellation deadline, but when I booked the room I was not supposed to be charged until I arrived or did not cancel my room in time. I contacted the hotel directly and they told me the information was in my confirmation after I booked my room that it was up to the discretion of the hotel to charge for the room. I have used booking.com several times and this was the first time I was charged for a room (with free cancellation) before my arrival. Make sure you check the fine print.

Review 89:My room was very large, clean and the bed was comfortable. I had a kitchenette but there were no knobs to turn on the stove top burners.

Review 90:The service is excellent. The location is well across the bridge . Close to Walmart -shopping and Lonsdale Quay. Easy access to bus & sea-bus . Laundry easy access.

Review 91:There were so many people at breakfast that they couldn't accommodate. At least 10 people were standing around to eat breakfast, especially because, they wouldn't extend the breakfast time. so people were standing to eat their food and bumping into each other as they tried to toast their breads or get coffee. For such a large motel, it's quite a small breakfast place.

Review 92:For a city stay, the price was excellent. Everything was clean and tidy, comfortable, but the furnishings are worn. For example: chips out of the porcelain sink in the bathroom. Also, they took a photocopy of my drivers licence. I think they should have only taken my Drivers licence number. There's too much info on a identity document.

Review 93:Breakfast was served using disposable cutlery and plates/bowls. In this day and age I find this unacceptable and not very responsible. Our room had a strong smell of cleaning products, but didn't feel that clean. Wifi does not work well.

Review 94:Comfortable enough. Easy location to get to downtown Vancouver.

Review 95:We didn't appreciate being pre- charged for services we did not use. The breakfast could include some yogurt and bananas. It would be more welcoming if there were to go lids for coffee or tea. The initial staff was curt but efficient.

Review 96:The bed and pillows were comfortable. The coffee was drinkable. The parking was close to the suite.

Review 97:The night auditor guy was rude! It took us 45 mins to check in I was very disappointed I had a reservation number and he "couldn't find it" so we all had to sit there and wait till we could call booking.con and get a number!

Review 98:I like the location and the price

Review 99:After the room is fully paid on Booking.com they take a credit card authorization for "Demages" It is not coming off automatically when you leave had to phone credit card issuers 3 weeks later to take it off.

Review 100:Nice place. Good breakfast.

Review 101:The pictures of the rooms are not a true depiction .The King rooms do not have a soaker tub , they all come with a small five foot standard tub .

Review 102:They up- graded me to a room that had a soaker tub when I complained that the pictures of the rooms were misleading .

Review 103:Can't think of anything.

Review 104:The staff is very friendly, the rooms are average and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is good - not just coffee and toast. The location is good - walking distance to restaurants. I will stay there again.

Review 105:The Grouse Inn is a motel, advertising as a hotel and charging hotel prices and giving hostel services and facilities. I booked 14 nights but left after 8 due the conditions and service I received. I had booked room with breakfast, but I did not get breakfast and I was also charged $150 more than the agreed rate. I asked to speak to a manager several times, but there was no one available during my eight day stay.

Review 106:We've stayed here four times, each time in a different kind of room. The quality of the rooms vary. Some desperately need updating. The breakfast is terrible!

Review 107:This motel is just a 10 minute drive into Vancouver at 9am and is convenient to the ferries at Horseshoe Bay as well as sights on the north shore. It is quiet.

Review 108:Noisy neighbors.

Review 109:Location. Close to bus stop for quick ride into town, or connection to sky train. Denny's next door provide good economical meals. Close to river walk and short walk to Park Royal Plaza shops.

Review 110:The room stunk! It smells like dark damp basement...so bad that we were spraying perfume every time we were in there. The tv remote didn't work, and there was no other lock on the door....won't stay there again, nor would I recommend to anyone else.

Review 111:The rooms were very damp and smelly. Needed to keep door open when possible. Carpets needed cleaning smelt as if urine on carpet

Review 112:It was a convenient location for our needs. Enjoyed having access to laundry. The staff most helpful. Thanks also for internet connection

Review 113:No standards for cleaning staff. Filthy and dusty room even when checking in. Spiderwebs not removed. Wastebaskets not emptied. Internet extremely slow, most of the time not working. Faucet leaking. Sink not draining properly. Old lumpy pillows. Noisy a/c not cooling the room. Breakfast cramped and only one toaster for many guests. Tables not cleared and coffee pot often empty.

Review 114:Great location Laundry facilities

Review 115:Old carpet in bed room, shower ok Dark room with window to wall (entrance) If somebody in room upstairs walked around, you feel like he/she was walking in your room… Hairdryer needs some repair Room service left door open after cleaning!!!

Review 116:Friendly and helpful staff at reception Breakfast ok, everyday the same, but ok, all with plastic => garbage!

Review 117:The room was very hot on a warm fall day and the desk staff didn't know how to make it cooler. They thought the A/C unit controlled heat. It wasn't until the maintenance man came in the next day that the baseboard heater below the A/C was turned off. Vacuuming and dusting could be more thorough.

Review 118:The price was good including the continental breakfast and free parking. The breakfast had a good choice of items and staff were very pleasant and polite. Location was excellent.

Review 119:The rooms smelled musty and a bit smoky -- probably the carpets need to be ripped out and new windows installed -- the tracks were moldy. It just is a property in dire need of huge renovations and would be very difficult to recommend.

Review 120:We liked the location and the staff were great. The breakfast was adequate but we ended up going to Denny's both days as the lobby (where the hotel breakfast was served) was as hot as a sauna! This was the last stop of a trip around BC with relatives visiting from UK and it was not impressive, but I gues you get what you pay for.

Review 121:The windows didn't open - we're fresh air people!

Review 122:Easy to get to off the highway, good location - within walking distance of Lion's Gate Bridge and Stanley Park. Nicely laid out, with pretty flowers, a decent pool and close to a few restaurants.

Review 123:Breakfast could have more selection and more room. Bathroom fan could be quieter and remove some air. More and better toasters

Review 124:........................................good location for me and staff very good

Review 125:A bit of a walk to stores. Busy traffic area.

Review 126:The swimming pool was fabulous! The breakfast was great! Denny 's restaurant was close by. Free internet was terrific! Staff was friendly and helpful! Large bathroom! Lots of pillows!

Review 127:Years ago-I lived around the corner from this hotel so I knew it would be a busy area! But I was pleasantly surprised to find this hotel was tucked away and fairly private! Beautiful flower baskets and clean facility made this older hotel a delight to stay! The staff were very very friendly! The breakfast area was busy both mornings but still offered the basics the room was clean and I loved the separate sink area which came in handy while traveling with a husband and teenage son! The pool looked gorgeous but we ran out of days to test it out! Overall- I will definitely stay here again while visiting family on the north shore! Thanks!

Review 128:a bit far from main area of north vancouver Some old foods were kept in fridge Towels are really hard hair..

Review 129:Staffs are friendly Good price including breakfast

Review 130:Room very small and outdated Blanket smelled like a cat pee, had to dump it on the floor, otherwise linens were clean Free breakfast was gross Everything in that room was 100 years old and needed to be dumped

Review 131:Location Price Clean enough

Review 132:The bed was not overly comfortable and there was a bit of noise from upstairs..

Review 133:Location was good, most of the staff seamed friendly enough, the suite was quite nice, very cute.

Review 134:The use of disposable plates and cutlery meant a huge pile of landfill left from breakfast which was otherwise perfectly satisfactory. The coffee was great.

Review 135:The staff are very friendly and helpful. The views of the mountains behind give a very special atmosphere.

Review 136:The free breakfast was nice but it was so busy the day we stayed that there wasn't enough seating for everyone. We took our continental breakfast "to go" and ate outside on the picnic table.

Review 137:This is a retro little Inn; reminds me of a classic 1960's - but lovingly upgraded. The heated pool was a huge hit with the kids and the beds were uh-mazing! It's also located within walking distance (100 yards or less) to one of the best Earls restaurants I've eaten at!

Review 138:It is an old inn and was run down. Continental breakfast did not provide much variety and was below average. The air freshener in room they used to disguise musty smell was extremely strong, aggravating allergies.

Review 139:The location was good.
