Reviews for Helmcken Falls Lodge
Review 1:This isn't related to the lodge, but u mite like to know ahead that there is no visitor info n this park, so u shud prepare for your visit before arriving. It's a beautiful park with great waterfalls, and n sept we thoroughly enjoyed the salmon jumping up the chute!
Review 2:Pay attention that the wifi is NOT free and there is NO cellular reception. There is no kettle in the room (only coffee machine).
Review 3:Beautiful cabin right in the heart of the Wells Gray park. Excellent place if you wish to stay the night inside the park. Very good restaurant for dinner (not as expensive as I would imagine).
Review 4:awning or a cover on the veranda/patio in front of the room where one can sit even when it is drizzling would be a terrific addition
Review 5:location, staff attitude, food
Review 6:Though location and room were good we found the rates overpriced. It might sound ridiculous but the water jet of the shower actually hurt. I think there is only little water coming out, so they put more pressure on it in order to make it feel like a regular shower. To us it felt rather uncomfortable showering but on the plus side there is a bathtub.
Review 7:The location is ideal to explore the provincial park. The receptionist was very helpful explaining the layout of the park. The rooms are quite large and comfortable.
Review 8:Nothing about the place itself. It was just that we had to drive a long way to it from our route. Hadn't realised this on booking. Didn't think we were ever going to get there!
Review 9:Beautiful location in the Wells Gray park. Very clean and comfortable room. Great if you are there for the outdoor activities.
Review 10:New rooms perfectly adequate but a few small details need attention. e.g hooks in bathroom, luggage stands
Review 11:Close to amazing sights Dinner in dining room great and the main lodge full. of character
Review 12:no fridg,no hair drier,no table, dust from the unpaved road ,beds were too soft for us
Review 13:the location, the view from the room, friendly & helpful staff
Review 14:Lack of kettle in the room. Internet connection seemed pricey, but it appears it's up to the satellite provider, which is understandable as location is quite remote. The option to pay cash would have been nice rather than straight charge from the card.
Review 15:Comfort rooms with spectacular view of the mountains. Right in the middle of wilderness you can switch of and unwind. Bathroom with bath tub and shower. Very nice restaurant with personal touch.
Review 16:Our room was very comfortable and super clean. We enjoyed our breakfast but the rest of our meals we ate with friends that we were golfing with at Wells Grey Golf Resort and RV Park
Review 17:Front desk staff was pretty busy, so always had to wait. Their level of friendliness was fine, but not great. The bathroom was pretty tired looking.
Review 18:The horseback ride was the highlight of our 2-week trip out West for my 9 year old daughter. The couple running the horseback rides were great!
Review 19:The main building needs updating. And since you are far out of any restaurants you will eat here too, but the restaurant also needs better food and looks.
Review 20:The rooms are updated and great beds, facilities and view.
Review 21:It's fairly remote so only choice to eat was the restaurant on site. Take your mozzie spray - you'll need it! Although all the rooms had mesh windows which were really effective. Felt it was expensive for what it was.
Review 22:A lovely little place in a beautiful part of the world. About a half hour off the main road so allow for that if it's a stopover like us. Definitely wished we had longer as there is so much to do in the Wells Grey Park/Helmcken area. Staff were brilliant.
Review 23:Overpriced for both accomodation and food - food choices for breakfast and dinner were of very limited choice and poor quality. Staff were perfunctory rather than welcoming. This was the only occasion during our 3 week tour of canada that we felt the main objective was to take as much money as possible.
Review 24:Stunning location in Wells Gray Park
Review 25:Availability of meals was poor. A cold breakfast for a high price was disappointing. The dinner menu was limited and reservations were required. That was problematic for travelers who are out enjoying the park and prefer not to be locked into a specific time.
Review 26:Location was good and the room was adequate.
Review 27:Dinner was not good but the server was exceptionally nice and tried to make it right.
Review 28:It's the closest lodge to the sights of wells grey like helmcken falls. There's no tv and it's a 20 minute drive to get a cell phone signal--you really feel you are 'off the grid' in a very good way.
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:Location great for for park sights accessible by car. We were in the McDougal cabin which was nice and homely. Everyone was very friendly and vrry helpful when my wife's ring finger started swelling badly after a mosquito bite in the park. Loved the Hummingbirds outside the Restaurant windows.
Review 31:The room was cold and basic. No hot water for shower in there morning made the room seem colder. There's a fine line between rustic and not bothered with maintenance.
Review 32:The location is good. Staff were fine. Very pleasant waitress at dinner.
Review 33:We weren't aware that we would be in a separate building but the quality and views from our room were great.
Review 34:Very well presented and rustic feeling. Great food in the restaurant and pleasant staff.
Review 35:Bathroom is extremely small (max. 1 person, while room sleeps 4) .
Review 36:Very comfortable room, very clean. Nice and helpful staff. Terrace or balcony with nice view
Review 37:No free wifi, cost 5 cad. There was no fridge and TV, however we didn't miss it.
Review 38:Professional and friendly staff, Nice and clean room with a balcony, A beautiful and quite natural surrounding in the Wells Gray Park,
Review 39:No fridge in room. your far away from any other food source, breakfast was lacking. what they had was ok, they say an all you can eat for 13.00 (only option) for this price I expected cooked food, eggs, has browns, sausages, homemade waffles (hot food) their waffles were the frozen kind that you buy from the store, and all there was to eat was carbs/ sweets a small amount of fruit muffins, toast, cereal, croissant, yogurt and breakfast drinks.
Review 40:The renovations were a nice touch
Review 41:More than 100km from next connection to Swisscom (Rogers) network (that is more a problem of Rogers than the lodge).
Review 42:Nice environments and ambiance, good food (esp. french fries)
Review 43:However it was 2 small double beds. My husband & I are ave. height & feet hung over. No room extras like a fridge, ice, drinks for purchase, cheap towels & a hand soap dispenser in place of your shampoo. Cheap! Whatever you do, do not eat at the restaurant! The chef obviously does not know how to cook. Menu limited, Steak had no seasoning just meat squeezed out on a grill. Potato au gratin was potato chunks floating in runny cream & frozen seasonal vegetables. $75 for 2 & was disgusting. Atmosphere is also dated & they act like they're booked up making reservations & denying you of where you would like to sit even though the restaurant is empty. What a joke. This place has so much potential but they just don't care.
Review 44:Although our cabin was actually a trailer it was very clean inside.
Review 45:No free wifi although they provide a paid service (5 bucks for 150MB) which since it's a isolated place with no usual cables. No tv...but really, not the place to watch tv. Dinner was poor. Town is 40 minutes away from the hotel so it's a hard choice: bad meal vs 40 min driving to eat.
Review 46:Super comfortable and clean rooms. Porch with great view. Wonderful, pillows and bed. Place is wonderful quite close to the park main attractions.
Review 47:Very little not to like. However, since it is a 35 km trip in and out, the restaurant does not have to do much to generally satisfy. The wine and beer options are quite mediocre and the food is certainly palatable, but somewhat pedestrian.
Review 48:Beds were extremely comfortable and rooms very clean; staff were very friendly and helpful; and location in the midst of Wells Gray Provincial Park nearly unparalleled.
Review 49:No air-conditioning. It was quite a ways in from the highway. We were only spending the one night there. They offer only a cold breakfast buffet ($12.95), whereas other motels have the same for free.
Review 50:It was quiet. There were horses there for trail rides, if you wanted.
Review 51:A bear with 2 cubs was walking around just in front of the accomodation. And the bed was so comfortable, we'll go there again if we're there the next time.
Review 52:Front desk staff was not friendly. Rooms were small and stuck in the 1970s. Grounds looked like a junkyard. Better to demolish some buildings and start over.
Review 53:It was very hot and stuffy when we checked into our room (22). I can see that the sun shining into those particular set of rooms contributes to the accumulation of heat. The fan in the ceiling took a very long time bring the temp. down. A screen for the door or an air conditioner might help to cool the room down faster. Sleep was very difficult to achieve under the extreme hot conditions.
Review 54:Balcony on room overlooked the property. Golf course nearby was excellent and very accommodating when we dropped in Restaurant on site was excellent and the staff were great Excellent location for exploring the rest of Wells Grey Area Price was very reasonable.
Review 55:This place is a relaxing get away from the busy life. We stayed in the newer rooms down the hill. The rooms were a nice size, very clean yet comfortably simple. There is no tv and no internet. For the price of the stay, it's well worth the drive out of town. You must also take in the falls if you're there.
Review 56:I felt the light breakfast to be slightly over priced. A continental type breakfast for $12.00 per person. And my wife only ate about $2.00 worth of food. (one toast, and a cup of orange juice.)
Review 57:The place was nice and clean in a beautiful location.Got to love the cabins!! Also we appreciated the recommendation from the staff to see the waterfalls close by. Well worth the 30 min detour from our route to Vancouver Island.
Review 58:very limited comfort, bed not comfortable, securtiy of the room (Access on the back of the building, main entrance cannot be locked and the lock in the room very simple and easy to be broken up).
Review 59:friendly staff
Review 60:Expensive breakfast and menu.
Review 61:Activities very close. Horse riding at the place.
Review 62:The whole rustic atmosphere and location.
Review 63:No free internet available. Had to pay for it but still hardly access to any website
Review 64:Nil

Review 69:We enjoyed watching the humingbirds around the dining deck.
Review 70:Didn't realise we'd booked a cabin but it was perfect, nice little porch with rocking chair and views.
Review 71:The room could be modernised - it is old-fashioned.
Review 72:The surrounding is breathtaking and the falls & lake are very close.
Review 73:Great location on the edge of the Provincial Park. Good dinner, we did not stay for breakfast. Very peaceful lovely view of the horse paddock.
Review 74:We loved watching the Hummingbirds. Location for dinner was great as was the food
Review 75:Location is great, near to Wells Gray, with restaurant at site. Quiet and cosy room for a good nights sleep
Review 76:The restaurant and the natural environment, amazing scenery.
Review 77:Great spot, good size room, very clean, awesome waterfalls nearby. Restaurant for dinner was very enjoyable.
Review 78:Limited amount of hot water, sometimes none?
Review 79:The informality and the caring service.
Review 80:Location in middle of magnificent waterfalls and walks
Review 81:Loved everything. Horseback ride is a must do! Great people and hospitality.
Review 82:Continue on with what you have.
Review 83:The chance to get away from TV and all the interference of city life.
Review 84:excellent dinner, nice and clean rooms, easy check out, good espresso, specially served for us
Review 85:Nothing to dislike.
Review 86:The location is excellent, if you want to visit Wells Grey State Park.
Review 87:Great staff,good location,well kept,wildlife
Review 88:We loved the rustic ranch in the beautiful moutain setting! We'll be back!
Review 89:No WIFI.
Review 90:Great location for a stop on our way to Jasper. Plenty of things to see in nearby Wells Gray Park.
Review 91:35 km to nearest food facility if not there before dinner is served
Review 92:Very serene and great view Beautiful cottage style rooms !
Review 93:nice place decent restaurant for dinner horse riding spacious and comfortable ('classic double')
Review 94:spacious and comfortable rooms nice breakfast arrangement nice dinner menu
Review 95:Food and facilities are ordinary
Review 96:Location
Review 97:The Mosquitos are all over.
Review 98:The openness of the property because of the Ranch .
Review 99:Breakfast is continental and was a bit over-priced for what we got.
Review 100:We enjoyed the location and amenities. Staff were very friendly.
Review 101:WiFi is 5 $ for 24h
Review 102:Very nice rooms inside and very friendly family business.
Review 103:Staff was lovely, very friendly. Clean & spacious room.
Review 104:the mosquitos
Review 105:the place is very nice
Review 106:WIFI was not free Lot of mosquitos in July
Review 107:The location
Review 108:The rooms are realy nice, and i liked the staff at the reception and restaurant.
Review 109:The facilities need more improvement. The room we stayed doesn't have a window and the air in the room is very bad. Too many Mosquitos to stay outside. We couldn't enjoy our time there.
Review 110:The location is good for all attractions.
Review 111:the accommodation is located 33 km far away from the main Clear-water village.
Review 112:The room was very cute and extremely clean! The Accommodation is located in very nice valley. Highly recommended for young couples. Excellent view from the room's balcony. The staff was very help full during our stay there. Excellent value for money
Review 113:No TV, telephone and railing to hold on in the bathroom tub to prevent from falling.
Review 114:Good convenient location to visit the fantastic water fall. It was a home away from home ,very cosy and clean.Good food served in the dinning room.
Review 115:The pictures they showed on listing was not the building with the our room. Room was still clean, but the beds in our room where not comfortable and both squeaked.
Review 116:The location was easy to find and very quiet. Lodge was clean and staff was very friendly and helped us plan our hike the next morning.
Review 117:Friendly and well informed management. Good value for money and well positioned to enjoy the magnifient Dawson and Helmcken Falls and other leisire activities. Substantial continental breakfast available.
Review 118:Remote. No other restaurants or other facilities nearby.
Review 119:Remote. Cosy cabin built in 1922 in great location. Our favourite 'room' of our 22 day trip.
Review 120:Nothing apart from the extra 80 miles or so from Clearwater added onto our journey.
Review 121:First impression was disappointment, but once inside the decor was traditional log cabin with a modern twist, the welcome at reception was warm & informative. Our cabin was very comfortable, warm & peaceful. The evening meal & continental breakfast were delicious, immaculately served by the friendly English owners. The salmon leap & Helmcken Falls are sights not to be missed. Should have booked for longer!
Review 122:Stayed on lower floor of 12 unit complex and with no sound proofing the people above us sounded like elephants when they walked. Wifi only worked in main building not in room. Beds very firm - a bit too hard.
Review 123:Really great staff, picturesque, close to the Falls, rustic country feel
