Reviews for Chipman Hill Suites - Union Street

Review 1:Parking could be inconvenient during business hours; however, since our stay was during the holiday, we had no issues at all. Most likely our stay would be over a weekend when parking wouldn't be any issue.

Review 2:Quiet, modern, clean, location, ease of check-in & out

Review 3:It would have been nice to have been able to make ice. There were no ice cube trays and no ice machine available. The television was an older tube TV -- only about 19 inches in size. Not a real problem as I rarely watch TV but something I did not expect.

Review 4:The location was great and the restoration was tremendous. The unmanned checking worked perfectly. The service was better than anything I have come across lately -- the only hitch was that there was no cleaning service on Mondays. The free laundry facilities came in handy.

Review 5:The room was beautiful and cozy, nice place to stay when you have love ones in the hospital. It was close for shopping and eating would love to stay here again.

Review 6:No room to move when the extra bed was opened, but it folded up during the day. We do appreciate the effort to accommodate an extra bed though!

Review 7:Location was ideal within walking distance of everything uptown Saint John.

Review 8:Communication could have been better. Staff nice but not overly helpful. Came to watch tide and girl at desk didn't have great suggestions. Wasn't told there was coffee available until after we bought it.

Review 9:Beautiful historic building. Close to downtown. Nice room.

Review 10:NOTHING:)

Review 11:We were there for east coast swimming championships and I had a room right next to the pool - fantastic location. We had an italian restaurant right across the road that did excellent take out. We had the market right next to us. We had really good laundry facilities with ironing board. The room had a king size bed that I shared with my younger son and my older son had a roll away cot that they provided. Very clean and quiet! All round excellent visit and extremely comfortable for a swimming competition and family visit to st john new brunswick! Thank you

Review 12:Building 5 was perfect for us. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. We have swimmers so we were able to watch them walk to the pool safely. You were also able to accommodate other swim families as requested. Would love to stay in the same building next year.

Review 13:Not a negative for us, but could be a concern for others were the stairs. If this is a problem I think you can let them know at booking and they will work something out.

Review 14:We were in Saint John primarily to catch the ferry. This was perfect for us. The location was great for the proximity to the ferry, but also within a short walk to the main SJ sites we had wanted to visit...central market, museum, etc. very clean with great facilities for those who would want to self cater (which we did not).

Review 15:There was no ac when the room was 84 degrees - which would have been fine if there were window screens to keep the mosquitoes out, and we could let the Bay of Fundy do it's thing, but there were neither. Took 2 days to get the ac installed, which was loud.

Review 16:It was central to the conference locations.

Review 17:The room was excellent and I thorough enjoyed my stay. Spacious, great layout and right uptown, a short walk to shops as well as the clients I was there to see.

Review 18:We were met in the parking lot by one of the staff who took us directly to our room. The hotel complex is in a selection of old buildings next to the shopping area but our room was completely redone, quiet and pristine. Our view from the room was of the harbor and when we awoke on the first day the Queen Mary II was in port. The owner, also a foodie, was very helpful in pointing us to numerous excellent restaurants, some within walking distance. Overall, a very comfortable stay.

Review 19:As others have said, the room was a bit cramped, but the bed was a queen four-poster and the architectural features of the unique windows, etc., made up for it. The room and bathroom were very clean; however, there was some mild along the edge of the tub and on the floor that needs immediate attention.

Review 20:This inn is loaded with character. The antique-filled main floor common areas are just gorgeous. I felt like a princess walking down the winding staircase with the his and her different posts. I grew up in Saint John and never knew this place existed. I recommend this to any couple wanting a romantic stay in a Loyalist mansion type setting. I was in awe.

Review 21:I loved the friendly welcome that we received from Marilyn. She not only moved her car so we could have parking next to the building, but she carried our bags upstairs. The room was lovely. Amazing. Loved the location.

Review 22:warning should be given that this is not a walker's location. cabs are needed

Review 23:the rooms are well appointed and well maintained. the method of obtaining a key is weird but works

Review 24:It was kinda strange to not have any staff in the building but it wasn't that bad.

Review 25:It is a beautiful old Victorian home. The rooms are a great size.

Review 26:Cannot think of anything. We were a bit wary of lockbox setup but it was easy once we did it the first time. The instructions and diagrams were helpful!

Review 27:Great location for attending functions at Harbour Station! $10 extra for parking space was worth it as it was so convenient. The rooms were laid out nicely and nicely decorated.

Review 28:Charming little suite. So close to everything we hardly needed our car.

Review 29:#1, our building, was close to downtown. We enjoy staying in historic facilities.

Review 30:Booked 2 rooms but only had one when we arrived. Staff finally did accommodate us with another room.

Review 31:Parking.

Review 32:Location; layout of the room; brightness.

Review 33:Spacious room, lovely decore, great downtown location, value for money:)

Review 34:the suite, the staff and historic nature of the building. perfect for autonomous people seeking an alternative to hotels.

Review 35:Herritage apartment with comfortable settings.

Review 36:One block from shopping, great restaurants and walk-way to olympic pool & arena facilities.

Review 37:I did not expect to make my own bed and tidy my room for three days in a row

Review 38:Location, facility with kitchenette and laundry, very good idea for family or couple when one does not want to eat out

Review 39:Check in is a little cumbersome -- no people involved, just opening alock box to get the key, with emailed directions.

Review 40:Nicely decorated, great city location

Review 41:Lack of on-site management was fine but the room hadn't been deep cleaned in some time, e.g., dust bunnies on the foor, ceiling, and ceiling fan.

Review 42:Location was great and allowed us to walk to downtown areas we wanted to access: aquatic center, old market, etc.

Review 43:Most of the buildings are re-habbed older homes. Getting to thr third floor is sometimes difficult for us.

Review 44:Decor is outstanding and rooms are comfortable.

Review 45:When travelling its sometimes difficult to pick up the last minute longinstructions about entering after hours.

Review 46:We enjoyed the magnificent old property and the location.

Review 47:Our bathroom sink (was too close to the cabinet that I hit my head onedge of the cabinet! Separated swages for hot/cold don't mixwater... Not convenient, we had to wash face in the bath tub...)Other rooms seemed OK, though... Windows are kept closed and when we needed fresh air, we had to open the door to a small balcony, then bugs were coming in the room..

Review 48:Victorian styled home Location Cleanness Fairly tuned piano

Review 49:Hard to get a wifi signal in the room. Everyone came down to the sitting room to use their iPads and tablets.

Review 50:Loved the teapot with cups, plates, utensils. The balcony off the room and the architecture.

Review 51:A little tricky getting in the building, but the system they have works. No real concerns

Review 52:Very well appointed old mansion (#71 Sydney St.) in St. John. They thought of everything. They have it set up for longer stays with kitchenette amenities and wonderful public areas for relaxing

Review 53:Room was lovely but hot on the third floor with south facing windows on warm spring days when the aircondioning had not yet been hooked up. Welcomed the rain storm on the thied day which allowed some cooling off.

Review 54:Historic well Maintained 3 story building. Classic brick, spectacular woodwork, antiques, architectural features, stained glass, inlayed tile, and elegant main floor common rooms.

Review 55:No coffee for the coffee machines and no filters. Some tacky (cheap) decorations in otherwise beautiful common area rooms.

Review 56:The common areas, old world ambiance.

Review 57:We appreciated the beauty of the historical building on Sydney St, St John. It was a nice walk to the City Market and we enjoyed the craftmanship of the buildings along the way. Having the freedom to use the livingroom, sunroom and laundry gave the accomodations a homey feel.
