Reviews for Hotel Staubbach
Review 1:Lovely location. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was delicious. They also have menus for all the local restaurants so you can decide what you fancy to save going to 5 to look. Recommend the south facing rooms that look along the valley.
Review 2:The room was extremely cramped and small leaving little room to move around but we still loved it! We could open windows and hear either the Staubach Falls or the train going up to Wengen.
Review 3:Breakfast: excellent. The staff checked with us every day to offer advice or suggestions. helpful front desk staff proximity to everything in Jungfrau region value
Review 4:The staff was amazing. So friendly and helpful with ideas on the local attractions. The location is stunning. Surrounded by waterfalls and mountains.
Review 5:Management was fantastic - made our stay a delight. Food was excellent. View was great. Our stay was short, but the recommendations of what to do in the time we had along with proximity to what can be done were perfect for us.
Review 6:Nothing. This place is heaven on earth.
Review 7:Stunning view of Staubbach falls. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful including the kitchen staff. One of them (I wish I asked for her name) kept giving me suggestions on where to go and what I might like. She was super nice.
Review 8:The staff were amazing, they were very friendly and helped with everything we needed. The location was supperb with spectacular views of the falls and Valley. They also had a great play area inside with lots of toys and books which my 2 year old daughter loved.
Review 9:I prefered to have the own fridge and boiler at the room.
Review 10:The staff were truly helpful. And especially Angie who gave us some valuable information about the town, the areas to visit and the prices of the tickets. I recommend everybody to start their trip at this hotel to get this valuable information, as other hotels did not guide us in the same level.
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:The service was the best we have experienced. Angie and Adam were absolutely delightful. Assisted us with all our inquiries and just made our stay great. Maria in the breakfast area was wonderful. helping with directions and friendly tips on interesting things to do. These folks should be commended on their performance, not just with us but with everyone I saw them interact with. The hotel itself was central to all activities and very comfortable. Tea in the evenings. Elevator and parking made everything easy.
Review 13:Extremely welcoming and helpful staff! Beautiful setting! Lovely hotel! Great breakfast! Left something at hotel, and staff made the process of retrieving it very easy. Highly recommend this hotel!
Review 14:There was nothing that I did not like but I noticed that some rooms did not have en-suite bathrooms. They had to share an outside bathroom at the end of the corridor. Our family room (interconnecting rooms) had its own bathroom so we were ok but I felt sorry for those guests that did not check on this point before booking. (I mean who checks whether a hotel room has its own bathroom these days, right?). Also the hotel does not have its own restaurant (although it does provide breakfast)- but that was no problem as there were restaurants in town that we could choose from (hotel will recommend) . Watch out if out of season because there are only 3 restaurants open.
Review 15:Location was good. Short walk to everwhere. Lauterbrunnen was great choice for exploring Jungfrau and surrounding area. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free wifi was good. Breakfast was good enough - continental plus hardboiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast. Easy parking on-site. Lauterbrunnen's only Pub is staggering distance from the hotel :)
Review 16:Fantastic room view of Falls and valley. 5 to 10 minute walk to train station. Lauterbrunnen centrally located for most day trips / popular excursions.
Review 17:Bed was a bit lumpy but view and overall experience more than made up for that!
Review 18:Location was amazingly beautiful. Staff were truly helpful and caring and went above and beyond to make your stay better.
Review 19:I like everything about hotel staubbach. The staffs are very friendly, location is very convenient, view is great, hotel breakfast is delicious, wifi is fast. They even provide unlimited drinks like coffee, tea and water until 10pm. Everything you need is already provided by the hotel.
Review 20:The warmer isnt working well for my stay. :(
Review 21:It was my honeymoon trip and they decorated the place with heart shape blanket and a small bottle of champange. The breakfast buffer was simple and filling with an awesomr view!
Review 22:Outside appearance. But don't judge a book by its cover!
Review 23:Large spacious comfortable room. Incredible view of Staubbach Falls. Short walk from train (10 minutes). The STAFF is outstanding. They gave great advice re; hikes and excursions. At breakfast they ran out of eggs and bacon, so the staff made some for us right then and there! The property is old but well kept.
Review 24:There was nothing I disliked about this property.
Review 25:Had a lift. Excellent and very helpful and couteous staff. Excellent buffet breakfast. Clean spacious room.
Review 26:Great view from our room and balcony. It was a treat to have an elevator for moving luggage. The staff were exceptionally helpful and offered great suggestions each day.
Review 27:In our senior years, our activity level and ability to get around has decreased. We will likely not visit Switzerland again, but will continue to recommend Lauterbrunnen and Hotel Staubbach to fellow travelers.
Review 28:Angie at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful in all aspects of our stay. This is our third trip to Hotel Staubbach and we continue to love it. We also like Hotel Oberlander for dinner. This whole area is high on our list of places to travel. We enjoy everything about it!
Review 29:The facilities are pretty ancient. To some extent, this adds a rustic charme, but when one is used to more modern hotels, it takes some getting used to.
Review 30:The location in a mountain gorge underneath a 300 meter free-falling waterfall is hard to beat. Free coffee and refreshments at all times.
Review 31:The location is just perfect, staff was very polite and ready to help always and that too with a smile. They have a picnic room where we can prepare our own food and enjoy it
Review 32:Nothing except we had to leave.
Review 33:We had the same room we had four years ago and hope to have it again someday. The room is small as they describe it, nicely furnished with a view that is utterly fantastic. The staff is excellent and they do everything to make you feel at home. The breakfast was likewise great. We will be back.
Review 34:Very plain and somewhat dated rooms.
Review 35:Staff was amazing. Loved that at breakfast the host came around and offered to help with plans for the day. Front desk help was very nice.
Review 36:The property is very old and showing its age. We had an issue with water coming into our bathroom from the upstairs bathroom.
Review 37:Great location and a great full breakfast. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There are quite a few restaurants and even a nice little laundromat nearby.
Review 38:No cons
Review 39:Our room, #17, newly remodeled, with a beautiful romantic view of the valley was like staying in a honeymoon suite. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good filling breakfast. Clean and comfortable place. Stayed here exactly 1 year ago, and wanted to return. And did!
Review 40:Angie was a welcoming face with great information. It was in a great location. We had the attic room and felt it was fine. Angie emailed us before hand to make sure we were aware of the smaller room we confirmed. Wasn't so bad, cute and clean.
Review 41:Pillows!! Very flat and no spare ones in room to change with or add together
Review 42:Awesome staff. Asked every morning at breakfast (which itself was fabulous) what we were doing for the day, whether we needed any help with our plans etc
Review 43:All the staff at the hotel were delightful. On check in we had very friendly and very helpful service. Even at breakfast the kiwi girl was so helpful and full of information for the guests!
Review 44:We booked the hotel because of the location and loved the view from our balcony. The staff were very helpful in planning our hikes and recommending good restaurants. A kitchen was available for private use. We loved the simplicity of this place
Review 45:That we couldn't stay longer...
Review 46:The hotel staff were very welcoming and informative. They took the time to help us decide what activities we should do during our stay. They also made dinner reservations for us.
Review 47:Free parking, breakfast, internet, location. Availability of "picnic" room with use of fridge, microwave etc. Friendly and knowlegable staff: special thanks to Adam at the reception an Jackie at the breakfast room !
Review 48:Very happy with the whole experience.
Review 49:Absolutely loved our stay. The views, very helpful staff, impressive breakfast, comfortable rooms and proximity to the train station all helped to give us a memorable stay.
Review 50:just a little out of date on the hotel.
Review 51:Good location, nice view, staff at the hotel was excellent to give the best services ( specially Dina and Maria) with the warm welcome.
Review 52:No room tv, but who needs it in the alps, and they have a nice tv room downstairs.
Review 53:Best location in the city, perfect view of the falls. Do stay a day or two on the mountain though. Its worth it. (Gimmelvald or Murren). Great breakfast.
Review 54:I seriously recommend, if possible, to book a room with views to the waterfall. Romantic, melancholic, simply gorgeous... call it as you want, but spend the night in the balcony looking at the waterfall is just perfect. Furthermore, the staff is very nice and helpfull. The services are very good. It's a nice base point if you're planning to go up to the Jungfrau. In that case, you just have to pray for the clouds to be somewhere else.
Review 55:The room was a little tired.
Review 56:The location of the hotel was perfect, both for the waterfall and valley view as well as for convenience to amenities and transport.
Review 57:Wooden floors are a bit creaky and noisey neighbours. Church bells next door chime regularly day and night but didn't really bother us.
Review 58:Location and homely feel. Great picnic room and free coffee all day. Loved view of waterfall from our room. Good bath and shower. Excellent wifi. Staff were lovely and very helpful - especially Daniella.
Review 59:Access to the room was somehow difficult, and there was one toilet for three rooms, but we have been warned about that at the moment of booking.
Review 60:Placement is wonderful, the Lauterbrunnen waterfall is visible from the window. Lounge is awesome and restful, the staff is attentive.
Review 61:During our dinner in the dining hall area, we saw a rat running around, which we felt bit worry. Did inform the receptionist, Adam (if i remember clearly) on this matter and he did apologized on behalf.
Review 62:Overall excellent for the hotel location, facilities. Really like the room view facing the waterfall, and the chapel. It's very good that we are given the free facility to use on the microwave, kettle for own purposes. The check in and out was very smooth. Mr. Adam gave a very clear information about the hotel and the town as well.
Review 63:It was a heat wave and the room was hot at times.
Review 64:Great view with Balcony. Wonderful and knowledgable staff. The picnic room is a nice touch and can save you money on food. Well kept.
Review 65:The staff is *fabulous* and super-friendly. I loved the location and the comfort of the hotel. it was great that they could support family with adjoining rooms. great view and very central. We trekked through both sides of the valley.
Review 66:Nothing.
Review 67:The staff was great. Adam, the desk clerk gave us directions and maps, made reservations at local restaurants, and helped us with planning activities and was very pleasant. The breakfast was filling and provided a lot of options. Great location in the city.
Review 68:Everything was wonderful.
Review 69:I reserved a room facing the waterfall and loved being able to look out the window and see it. Even after dark it was lit. The bells from the church chimed and made the entire experience memorable!
Review 70:The only thing I would inform them of are the bunkbeds in Rm 12 which creaked really loudly whenever either of my children even slightly moved during the night. The mattresses were comfortable but it was the springs in the bed that were bad. Everything else in the room was great. Shower worked nicely, all very clean and good value for the area in Switzerland!
Review 71:All the staff at Hotel Staubbach were extremely friendly and so very helpful to assist in dining recommendations and how to plan your day in this area. They took the time to answer any questions we had & truly cared that we were comfortable in our room. The friendliest people on our whole trip.
Review 72:The room (#31) was intensely small (even on EU standards), and balcony was only about 8' X 4'... literally bumping elbows with neighbors when on it. Smokers won't like the fact that you're not allowed to partake on the balcony... must leave hotel to do so. No TV was a bit of a bummer over 3 days. "Falls View" side is also the side near a local bar, which is quite noisy until late. Only window was the door to balcony, so rather "closet" feeling. What room decor there is truly needs updating, and cleaning up. For the cost, the room itself is FAR from worth it... but the location as a base for exploring just can't be beat.
Review 73:The staff was truly "over the top" in every way imaginable! All spoke clear English, and were genuinely nice (and helpful). Views can't be beat! Great location to explore Murren, Wengen, and Gridelwald.
Review 74:Wifi was difficult to reach from the attic rooms.
Review 75:Angie, the manager, was one of the friendliest people we've met on our travels! On arrival we got a complete run down of the hotel and its facilities, and when we mentioned our plans for the next day she was ready with maps and helpful hints for our excursion. We couldn't have been happier and we felt twice as prepared and comfortable because of our experience with her.
Review 76:Initially we took Attic room with shared bathroom and at top floor, it looked spooky he he, so we changed the room.
Review 77:Location was excellent. Very nice staff. Very good breakfast. Picnic room is nice, provides an option to cook. Free coffee :-)
Review 78:Cost was a bit high for older establishment that had seen better days.
Review 79:Location was great and my room had small balcony facing Lauterbrunnen waterfall. Staff were very informative and very helpful in making reservation for dinner nearby and also organising for me to leave luggage at Wilderswil instead of travelling back to Lauterbrunnen from Schynige Platte for return journey to Zurich. Room comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and fresh.
Review 80:We had a room with a waterfall view and the view was amazing. The breakfast selection was excellent. There was a picnic room with a microwave and eating utensils which came in really handy.
Review 81:There was nothing that I didn't like about this place!!
Review 82:Really amazing location near to the falls and next to the train station , beautiful views and amazing friendly helpful staff!
Review 83:Shower in our room was on the small side
Review 84:We had paid extra for a room with a balcony and we're not disappointed by the view which was absolutely stunning. The staff at this hotel were very friendly and extremely helpful with a particular mention to Adam and Angie on the desk.
Review 85:Pillow too soft and flat even for my 7 year old kid. Location is a bit far from the railway station. It took us more than 10mins from the station to the hotel. Facing the road so a bit noisy even during small hours. Could not imagine it could be so noisy at nights in a quiet small Swiss town.
Review 86:Staff are very nice and enthusiastic (sorry I forgot the name of the nice lady come from Germany); free tea, coffee and ice cubes on G/F quite convenient. spacing rooms with a lot of storage space; good views from the room
Review 87:The room is quite hot without air conditioner. Even though they provided the best service, the price was quite expensive compared to the quality of the room. The wifi also doesn`t work well.
Review 88:This is the second visit to this hotel. The overall service they provided was still very good to satisfy. Especially, the location is very good to see the interlaken region and to climb the Jungfrauh.
Review 89:We were in the attic which they warned us was small and we shared a bathroom. It was tiny. Any one over 5'5" should beware you'll have to duck often including the entire shower.
Review 90:Great location, good breakfast with coffee and tea around the clock. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Great notes both in the rooms and from the staff on what to do. Even on rainy days.
Review 91:Nice comfortable place. Beautiful scenery all round. Convenient 'Picnic Room' for preparing your own food bought from Coop Supermarket nearby.
Review 92:No bad experience to report. The lift was limited to 3 persons at a time, but that's not too bad. We put in all the luggages with one person in the lift and the rest walk up or down to transfer the luggages.
Review 93:We went to see the sights and they were great. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location was just where it should be. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay there. Oh, the picnic room was a wonderful money saving idea. No restaurant in the hotel was not a problem. Breakfast was simple, but wonderful.
Review 94:a bit longer of a walk to the lifts. Wifi was a bot on the weak side but over all good enough. The most expensive hotel on our 21 day euro trip.
Review 95:Beautiful views and old rustic feeling of an old Alpine building! Very friendly staff. A common use picnic room so folks can heat up own food. The common use fridge also so folks can store milk for kids!
Review 96:the pillows weren't comfortable at all, or maybe it was just us. But improving the quality of pillows will help improve sleep especially after a busy day in the mountains
Review 97:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The made our stay memorable, providing us invaluable advice and suggestions. It truly like a home away from home, esp Angie, Adam, Niall and Maria! A big thumps up
Review 98:Very basic rooms, dated and a bit worn, but the friendly, helpful staff made up for that. We spent very little time in the room.
Review 99:Location was amazing.
Review 100:Nothing!
Review 101:Absolutely everything!! :) The location and views were amazing. The staff were the nicest we have met in any hotel we have stayed at, extremely friendly and so helpful. The breakfast was super. The facilities were great, the picnic room is a brilliant idea. Thanks everyone at Staubbach Hotel for a great stay :)
Review 102:The staff were all amazing - Adam at the front desk, Maria was exceptional!!!! The picnic room was so great to use to entertain guests for lunch. Our room (rm 5) had a view of the valley through the double french doors with the waterfall and cliffs and church bells. It was a piece of heaven and was an excellent time from start to finish. Thank you!!!
Review 103:balcony had great view but others were out there talking late so can be a bit noisy
Review 104:lovely spot at the end of town near falls, great breakfast, friendly and unpretentious place
Review 105:I saw someone on another website complain about nearby church bells. Having traveled extensively in Europe, I guess I'm just not bothered by that. I also saw a mention of "no air conditioning". This was certainly not an issue when we visited in late June.
Review 106:The staff are very friendly and helpful. Adam, at Reception, welcomed us and offered his assistance with anything we might need, including make dinner reservations. He also made hiking poles available for our mountain excursions. Maria, in the breakfast room, is a real gem. She knows the surrounding area very well, and happily circulates among the guests each morning offering suggestions and answering questions. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. This isn't a luxury hotel, mind you. If you have a room without a balcony there are "public" balcony spaces on each floor, which we always had to ourselves. There is a lounge on the ground floor to relax with others, and a "picnic room" for heating take-away and preparing light meals. Coffee and tea are available day and night in the lounge. The Staubbach is a great home base for active guests who want to explore the unbelievable beauty of the surrounding villages, mountains, and glaciers.
Review 107:Hallways were a little old and a little dark. There are a couple cows right by the hotel that eat late into the night
Review 108:Breakfast was tasty and they had all day tea and coffee. There was a great picnic room, where you could store food and heat food using the microwave. Rooms were simple, but comfortable and had all the essentials (including a hairdryer for the ladies). Staff was very friendly and helpful in terms of planning trips.
Review 109:If the balcony door is opened at night (summer), it can be a bit noisy as the hotel is near a pub
Review 110:It has a good view of the waterfall. 5-7 minutes walk to train station. They have friendly staffs. They provide a shared kitchen (fridge and kettle).
Review 111:The thing that makes this hotel a 10 out 10 is the management and staff. I am sure other hotels match the facility but I doubt they could match Angie and her team. Nothing was too much trouble including providing advice and guidance on things to do in the area. They were unbelievable.
Review 112:This was a fabulous place to stay and we would highly recommend it. The staff couldn't be better, the breakfast was fabulous, location great, large room, great lounge area, little indoor play area for small children, picnic room where you had use of the fridge and microwave. A little 2 burner element would be nice. Otherwise they have thought of everything here. It isn't cheap but nothing in Switzerland is. Across the street is Hotel Jungfrau where we found the best food and staff for dinner. Try the Rosti Jungfrau. Amazing!
Review 113:I love the location and view from the hotel. Ask for the room with balcony facing the valley and Staubbach Falls. The view is postcard perfect! Staff was very nice and very helpful too. Tip: plan at least a 2 day stay in the area. If you're visiting Jungfraujoch, make sure weather is nice before heading up. Would also highly recommend a walk/hike to the Trummelbach Falls. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
Review 114:On the day of check out (which was little early) , the breakfast spread was not good. Basic things like bread was not available which was disappointing keeping in mind that we had already informed hotel staff of the early check-out .
Review 115:The entire staff was very helpful and good
Review 116:The slightly uphill walk of about 10 minutes from the train station. The room balcony is shared with the other guests.
Review 117:Hotel room has nice view of the waterfall and the alpine village. The availability of the tea room that provides tea throughout the day. Staff was very patient and helpful in giving information and advice on the Jungfrau tour.
Review 118:Wifi was a little hit or miss on speeds but was more than adequate. This property was the highlight of 6 destinations by far and highly recommended
Review 119:The balcony view of the falls was priceless and the staff was just genuinely interested in helping us to get the most out of your time in the gorgeous valley. All spoke great English and we're happy to so
Review 120:We were lucky to have our room on the north side which has fabulous views. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast was very good. Our rooms one the 2nd floor was a 2 bedroom (one with queen bed and adjacent room with bunkbed) was one that had been recently remodeled & updated with new carpet and furnishings and we really liked it. The hotel was "vintage" style and charming. The breakfast room has incredible views while you dine.
Review 121:Friday night crowds at Pub Horner - they were quite loud.
Review 122:Great view of Staubbach Waterfall. They even provided a little breakfast when we had to catch a 5:33am train.
Review 123:Room (for 3) was a bit small and didn't have a view but there was a large balcony nearby with a view of the waterfall. Sink was in the bedroom so you would wake other people when using it.
Review 124:Location was perfect! Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good.
Review 125:Staff was very kind and helpful. Lauterbrunnen train station is 5 minutes walk away, so it's really convenient if you plan to visit some other places during the day by train.
Review 126:Gorgeous view of the waterfall from our room; delicious breakfast in the morning; friendly and knowledgeable staff regarding hiking; decent bathroom for our (tiny) room; amusing round up/transfer of cows going on just outside our room- loved seeing them wit
The Fine Print
To the hotel from the train station:- leave the train station to the main street- walk the main street uphill, continuing in the direction you have come by train, towards the Staubbach Waterfall.- after 500 metres, you will see Hotel Staubbach on your left-hand side. (If you pass the church you have gone too far.)You can also take the bus to the hotel (direction Stechelberg), which stops opposite the train station. Get off at the first stop and proceed for a few minutes on foot. There are no taxis in Lauterbrunnen, but you can order a taxi in advance from Garage Gertsch in the next village.
