Reviews for Middle Beach Lodge

Review 1:Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely ocean-view setting in an incredibly beautiful part of the world. Quiet and private room in 6-plex. Very comfortable and large lodge to relax in when tired of my room. Generous continental breakfasts provided so didn't need to get lunch. And benefited from off-season rates!

Review 2:The bed was very uncomfortable. It was advertised as queen, but I'm pretty sure it was just a double.

Review 3:I liked the building, it had a lot of character, great location overlooking the beach. Staff were excellent and very friendly.

Review 4:We stayed for the weekend and the restaurant was closed on Sunday and fully booked on Saturday. Continental breakfast is basic Small room

Review 5:Nice location next to the beaches Home made cookies

Review 6:The jacuzzi tub jets weren't working. Nobody mentioned it when we checked in so we found out on our first night. When we mentioned it the front desk staff said they were waiting for apart. would have been good to be informed up front and would have been even better to receive something (even small) as recognition that the unit (almost $300/night) wasn't as advertised.

Review 7:The location, service and breakfast were all very nice.

Review 8:We missed out on any dinner opportunities cause of a wedding taking the cooks away. Although the only evidence we saw of the wedding was some photo taking in the lodge.

Review 9:The location is wonderful. You are right there over the water in a very nice lodge with a wonderful view. Relaxed atmosphere and yet close to Tofino and other great areas.

Review 10:There was no railing on the deck or any lighting. We arrived after dark and I went our on the deck and luckily was able to discover this without falling. Very small room

Review 11:Location friendliness of staff

Review 12:there were a few lights out on the walkway to the parking lot, hard to see in the dark. Window seal on one of the windows in our room was broken, and the road coming in. Three resorts share this road maybe get together to fix it up?

Review 13:View from our room, the breakfast

Review 14:The view from our rooms patio was less than perfect, having to peer through the trees to see anything. Some pruning would be good. The ladder to the loft was at an angle that made it awkward to climb up and down. We were made aware of it though. The road to the lodge was full of huge potholes, obviously requiring some road work.

Review 15:Location of lodge with its view of beach & ocean was stunning! It has a wrap around deck & a patio where you can watch the waves crashing or the surfers riding the waves. Staff were friendly & helpful. They switched our 2 rooms to a cabin as we wanted a fireplace. The included breakfast was excellent, lots of breads, jams, cereals, cheeses & more. The main lodge had a warm & inviting great room with comfy couches before a large rock fireplace as well as smaller areas around the room with comfortable chairs & tables.

Review 16:Middle Beach Lodge is one of the truly special places on Vancouver Island. Sitting on the deck at the main lodge watching the sun set is magical. That was followed by a superb salmon dinner or should I say feast. What a wonderful place

Review 17:The beach is fairly quiet and the lodge is quaint. Love breakfast, cookies, dinner view, decent wine list and the prices are fair. Have stayed in three types of rooms and like the suites.

Review 18:Room was a little small, but comfortable. We were exploring so were not there much.

Review 19:Beautiful setting! Many outdoor things to do and see in the broader area. Reservations for their dinner at the lodge made for a wonderful evening: good food, delightful setting, opportunity to talk with other guests. It is a place to put away electronics.

Review 20:Laundry room in our section closed for refurbishment. Had to drive to other laundry room which had 2 old machines. There were no meals available on Sunday evening. The road approaching the Lodge had deep potholes that made driving dangerous.

Review 21:Location overlooking the sea set among trees. Decor in lounge dining area had interesting old furniture and artefacts &pictures on sea theme. Recycled timber, doors etc used.

Review 22:The bedrooms are very small, although this is probably true of all 'lodge' style rooms.

Review 23:Location was beautiful, even in the rain Main Lodge building was full of character.

Review 24:Booking.com said our room "boosts an ocean view". In fact is was an obstructed view, and seen by standing in the corner of the room. Told the receptionist and she said " if we would have booked through the hotel we would have told you it was an obstructed view". She wasn't very courteous. If we knew that, we would saved ourselves $50.00 to $60.00 and booked a forest view room. We were not happy at all.

Review 25:A very nice fresh continental breakfast, with beverages available all day as well as either a muffin or cinnamon bun. Nice to have a snacks through the day and fresh cookies at 8:00 PM.

Review 26:being old with joint problems our room was upstairs and a bit hard going up and down-this may have been my fault for not asking for ground floor.

Review 27:Great Breakfast and great staff.

Review 28:Staff was not joy filled…at all. And they certainly did not go out of their way to make anyone feel welcomed. Neighbouring lodge (Witch nanan…) had a very friendly staff and welcoming (and we were only there for lunch time! because our Lodge did not serve lunch or dinner - only burnt breakfast!

Review 29:location was beautiful (overlooking the ocean). Our room/unit was quaint - it had everything we needed (balcony was sweet). Paths were really neat. Beaches were beautiful.

Review 30:A tiny bit of mold/grouting in the shower needs to be attended to. Everything else was very clean and up to date in a rustic way.

Review 31:The secluded cottage on the bluff; views of the beach; plenty of windows to see the view, even thought it rained and we could not sit on the deck.

Review 32:The wifi is a bit hit and miss in the rooms. The rooms are quite small.

Review 33:Nice large lounge area, which is great to enjoy with the fresh baked cookies and hot tea of an evening!

Review 34:The room was clean and sufficiently furnished but lacked a table. Also the Internet access was weak and unusable; we had to go to the lounge area to get a good enough signal.

Review 35:The best part of the Lodge is the lounge area of the main building. It was cosy and tastefully furnished, and well situated on the cliff-like edge of Middle Beach. The lounge's corridor has a main balcony which offered breathtaking views of the coast and the Pacific. The Lodge had an exclusive access to the Middle Beach, just five minutes away on foot. The room we booked was not in the main building but we could have our meals and

Review 36:Wifi connection was intermittent, which we expected from the information we got from booking.com

Review 37:The lounge was so cozy and the view was so nice that we stayed there for a long while before we entered our room.

Review 38:We were in the 'beach' lodge - the 'headland lodge is apparently better. Our room was very cramped and unsuitable for staying in. Overall effect in the building was a sort of adult youth hostel feel

Review 39:The location right over the beach was stunning. The lounge was excellent.

Review 40:First of all beautiful location surrounded by wilderness, I liked that the building was made from recycled material, where possible, giving it a rustic appearance, but still very comfortable! I loved the home made bread for breakfast. Only one thing would have made it better, that is more choices for dinner!.

Review 41:We chose a 1 bedroom because its all they had available. Rooms are small so we were a bit cramped for a family of 5.

Review 42:The View was incredible and the Beach like Hawaii but colder of course.

Review 43:WiFii was out or spotty which was not the fault of the lodge. Road to facility is a bit rough.

Review 44:Facilities & grounds were beautiful. Room was very comfortable & well appointed. Great views.

Review 45:Breakfast very disappointing - would have liked fresh fruit/selection of teas/more gluten-free options Bed very comfortable but could have been bigger Before moved lodges surprised by how much we could hear neighbours

Review 46:Loved the location of and view from our lodge (once our request to move to sea-facing had been met) Loved being surrounded by trees/eagles/beach Evening meal delicious and good value for money

Review 47:We had a queen room, which was very small and claustrophobic. There was basically a bed, chair and sink in the room, and very little room to even open a suitcase or move around. It would have been nice to have a mini fridge or microwave. This room was the cheapest room at the property, and the larger rooms with more amenities would have been much more expensive. The lodge was in a beautiful location by the ocean, and although the room lacked amenities, considering the whole package of having access to the main lodge great room, it was still worth it. The whole area is very expensive, and considering prices elsewhere, and the fact that our room was upgraded I feel we got good value.

Review 48:The lodge was in a beautiful location. There is a main lodge room where they serve breakfast, and you can relax on the sofas in the evening. The lodge upgraded us to an ocean view room. There was a nice balcony outside with a beautiful view, and access to a picnic table nearby as well.

Review 49:Not much. Only one washing machine/ dryer for everyone.

Review 50:One of the most magical places I've ever been. It was superbly located and very stylish but extremely relaxed and comfortable.

Review 51:No A/C, horrible fitness room, hardly and screens on windows, front desk manager said he's only been there 3 weeks and knew nothing

Review 52:The porch, bed, and location.

Review 53:The Internet was very poor. The bed wasn't comfy and made noises every time you moved. The rooms were very small. And were quite warm too. We were on the ground floor so it wasn't safe to sleep with the window open. Also the netting covering the window had a gap so insects could get in if it was open. There was also a small gap under the front door. No TVs in rooms too. The walls were quite thin, I could hear someone snoring through them.

Review 54:Excellent location! Really beautiful beach. With not many others on it. Staff were very friendly and the room was clean.

Review 55:First gave us the key to an occupied room, then they gave us a room that we had not requested, and had none available that we wanted. However the room was nice they gave us and when we left they gave us a free night in any room in the future. Their Wi-Fi was terrible, could not get it in the room, had to go to the lounge.

Review 56:Like the location, breakfast, bed and dinner

Review 57:No hot breakfast, could use a good cleaning, no gym, wifi was poor. No full size fridge and small sink so hard to wash dishes.

Review 58:Great location, and properties.

Review 59:No air conditioning in rooms, however, not a big deal as the weather is generally cool in the evenings.

Review 60:Charming and rustic lodge in a beautiful location. Lodge was very peaceful and serene. The lodge we stayed on was adults only which was an unexpected bonus. The staff at the lodge were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Review 61:Staff were disengaged and not very friendly. Were not told we needed dinner reservations so missed dinner. Jacuzzi in suite was not operational, no discount offered. Breakfast was freshly baked but burned every morning.

Review 62:Amazing beds and location.

Review 63:Things to improve on - No phone, TV or Air Conditioning in rooms. I know it doesn't usually get really hot in Tofino but a fan would have helped.

Review 64:Excellent location, great breakfast and helpful staff.

Review 65:The room was very basic and small. When the couch was pulled out it was just about touching the fireplace. Would suggest ceiling fans for air circulation. The road to the lodge should be paved.

Review 66:Loved the location and the lodge. Breakfast was also very good.

Review 67:The fabulous halibut dinner and fantastic breakfast create great memories - love those cinnamon buns!. The natural setting is idyllic and it was great to access the beaches at low tide and look for shells.

Review 68:The rooms were very small with very little amenities. The sink in the bathroom was tiny. The description of the room when booking did not reflect the above.

Review 69:Beautiful location. Very comfortable & relaxing communal area. Good continental Breakfast, access to drinks and snack all day and cookies at 8pm :o). Access to very quiet beach where we saw a Sea Otter and Bald Eagles.

Review 70:Room was quite small. Cramped for space with two adults and three suitcases. Unfortunately we were placed right next to an exit door so it was noisy at times. An older establishment so wear and tear was evident, particularly in the bathroom. Wifi access was unreliable.

Review 71:Stunning views from the room. Great assortment of breakfast items. All very delicious. Freshly baked cookies in the evening were awesome. Lovely balcony with two comfy chairs looking out to the sea made for a relaxing margarita drinking spot. Brilliant location - close to beaches and to the town of Tofino.

Review 72:Absolutely nothing!

Review 73:The location and scenery was amazing. Breakfast at the lodge was delicious. The lodge offered a nice place to relax and enjoy the views. The staff was always friendly and accommodating.

Review 74:Its an old lodge so the rooms are small its to be expected.

Review 75:The ambiance of the lodge ,the beach, comfy beds ,and the view of ocean .Oh did I mention the sound of the waves and the great continental breakfast every morn which was complimentary.

Review 76:Nothing

Review 77:The freedom to come and go and the friendliness of staff. The excellent breakfasts and the coffee / tea availability through tout the day.

Review 78:our room was hard on the head. Hit our heads on the side piece of the ceiling at the end of the bed; as well as on the small area available to move about in the shower

Review 79:the comfy cozy bed; going to sleep with the sounds of the ocean waves hitting the shore; the front desk person; breakfast in the front room overlooking the ocean, walking the paths on the property; felt welcome

Review 80:At breakfast you have to heap a spoonful of rather liquid jam on a small flat plate. It would be more convenient (and less wasteful) to offer the small cups/bowls that one typically has for this purpose. Access to McKenzie Beach should be made easier for older folks. It is pretty much inaccessible for anyone with limited mobility. We came for our 40th wedding anniversary after we had our 25th here in the past. Then, we could not buy the comforter that we found so wonderful. Now, the superb bathrobes were not for sale. We're curious to find out what we won't be able to buy on our 50th.

Review 81:Wonderful location. Comfortable suite at the Beach House, quiet. Pleasantly furnished and decorated with mostly IKEA items.

Review 82:There was niothing we didn't like.

Review 83:We liked our balcony overlooking the beach, beautiful sunsets. Excellent breakfast to start the day, friendly staff.

Review 84:Room itself was quite small. Wished we had a balcony.

Review 85:Lounge areas (main floor and upstairs) in beach building very comfortable. Fresh baking at breakfast at the 8:00 cookies. Reasonable laundry prices.

Review 86:Lack of Evening dining Lack of space, website is misleading in description of rooms very very noisy, you can hear all the rooms around you you need a vehicle to get around, no transport available

Review 87:Friendly staff.

Review 88:We didn't know ahead of time that dinner is served in one sitting and you need to reserve ahead of time.

Review 89:The proximity to two beaches. The big lounges overlooking the scenery. Breakfast in the lounge.

Review 90:Modern comforts in a rustic lodge along the coast. Love that they encourage you to lounge around in their lodge by having coffee, tea and fruit during the day. Breakfast was wonderful as was the late night cookies when the lodge doesn't serve dinner.

Review 91:Nothing..

Review 92:The giant common area living room overlooking the ocean was beautifully serene. Couches and chairs in various secluded corners perfect for curling up with a book and the spectacular ocean view. Wonderful Tofino sourced antiques line the walls. We really enjoyed the chessboard, inside lounge chairs/couches and outside Adirondack chairs.

Review 93:Minor issues Floor tiles had too much grout WiFi didn't work on arrival - but it was fixed quickly Remote for disc did not work - again they taught us to use the back dials quickly

Review 94:Wonderful location Beautiful grounds and beach Great views of ocean Proximate to everything going on

Review 95:Honeymooned in Tofino, just back for 25th anniv. Middle Beach Lodge is our fav retreat. In just as good shape as when it first opened. Great peaceful hotel in any season, amazing beaches, highly recommend.

Review 96:We loved to walk the beach, sit on our deck and enjoy the view and watch the sun set. The main lounge area was a great spot to have a cup of tea, some fresh baked cookies and read a good book or connect on wi-fi.

Review 97:If your room is one of the small, less then ideal "forest-facing" ones, the magnificence of the natural setting is "behind" you.

Review 98:Stunning location overlooking the Pacific Ocean near the charmingly quirky town of Tofino. Gorgeous, homey, artfully decorated large common room with massive windows, books and fireplace, serving delicious breakfasts.

Review 99:Location was superb. It was so peaceful to hear the crashing waves of the Pacific, day and night! The decor was restful and fit the ambiance perfectly. A most enjoyable stay!

Review 100:Toilets.....if I was on a boat I Wouldn't mind a bucket to poop in, but I'm in a great lodge and all they have is children's toilets. The 2 good toilets you have were in the main lobby bathroom. Toilets shouldn't be a small circle, they should be oblong and a little higher off of the ground. I'm a contractor and the owner bought the cheapest toilets he could find....Solution, local governments have incentive programs for water saving toilets (usually 25 - 50% of the cost of the toilet). The best on the market are ToTo toilets, they flush properly and save you money on your water meter. A hand held shower would be nice but not a deal breaker....

Review 101:Staff Bed Breakfast

Review 102:if I have to, the floors needs resanding. And for water conservation the bathtub are dripping water.

Review 103:We like the setting and the property and the Lodges, casual elegant and rustic

Review 104:Quiet and away from the any hectic activityWe had dinner up at the lodge and the price was right. Having a glass of wine on the beautiful deck overlooking the water was wonderful!

Review 105:We had trouble with our booking and initially were given accommodation very lacking from what we had booked. We had to sort it out and then transfer our luggage to the other side of the resort.

Review 106:The location was nice and the food was fine apart from the lack of gluten free choices.

Review 107:The breakfast. If you did not come down early you would miss out on the small amount of cold meat that they do. Fine though if you are a vegetarian. The so called "starters" for the evening meal you could put in your eye !!!!

Review 108:The view from the room as long as you were to the front of the hotel

Review 109:The loft cabin was roomy for a five day stay, the lodge was bright, open and had a beautiful view of the sea. The breakfast had lots of variety available and the baking was fresh each morning.

Review 110:Rooms were really tight, bathroom and balcony doors warped, no TV (not such a bad point maybe), guy in the next room smoked despite it being a no smoking venue, and smoke came into our room...

Review 111:The ambience, the dramatic outlook

Review 112:cinnamon buns were often overcooked, too bad. Need more boots in good condition Bathroom products (ex: shampoo), not great Fireplace: one log only. Disappointing

Review 113:The deck deep bath. Cookies at night. Towels, robes, bed. Location, Middle beach. Lodge lobby, staff pecan muffins

Review 114:The room was very small once we got all our stuff in it we barely had room to change our minds

Review 115:The people where very hospitable, the main lobby was really nice and big they had coffee and cookies and big sofas where you could read.

Review 116:Hot tub is really a small bath - ok for 1 or 2 adults max. Hot water tank not sufficient to fill tub and keep it hot. Bedding was great but mattress but not of a quality to match the price and location.

Review 117:Loved the location. Cabins were rustic and fit nicely into the environment. Facilities were clean.

Review 118:We enjoyed the amenities of the Lodge coupled with the rustic beauty of the surroundings so much that we came home and booked a longer weekend in a bigger room for later in the year!

Review 119:Doona, was a tad too heavy......such a small complaint feel silly even mentioning it!!!

Review 120:Was absolutely delighted when we discovered the location of this place. Breathtaking views in lovely understand environment. Staff were friendly & helpful. Very relaxing & layback, absolutely loved our stay here

Review 121:Breakfast was served 8am-10am. Coming from the west this was very late as we were up at 6 or 7am each day and went into town because we couldn't even get coffee in the lobby until 8am, let alone something to eat. The mattress in our bed also felt like springs were poking through, we didn't sleep very well. They had dinner at the resort, but only on select nights and only with a reservation. And again this was a late dinner with apps at 6pm and dinner at 7pm.

Review 122:The location was beautiful with paths to the beach. Staff was very friendly and helpful. And the cookies after 8pm were a nice touch!

Review 123:The bed springs creaked at each movement! A glass of water spilt on the mezzanine came straight through to the bedroom below (luckily not on the bed!)

Review 124:Wonderful living and dining room. Cosy ambience around the fire. Unlimited tea, coffee and chocolate. Liked the recycled wood. Fantastic views. Helpful staff. Good breakfasts.

Review 125:We were first shown a room that might be best called a "bed with a view". Most of the rooms in the "lodge" aside from the one we stayed in (#26) after not wanting such cramped quarters, are tiny (bed and bathroom only) with a small verandah looking onto the ocean. However the common area would make up for the lack of private space if that didn't matter. Apparently the rooms in the bluff section are larger.

Review 126:The room we stayed in (#26, really a studio with cooking facilities, eat at table, desk) was the largest in the "lodge"on the ocean part of this establishment (there is a "bluff" section as well). It was superb. The common room is very comfortable and spacious. looking over the ocean. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and varied, but no hot food (except toast). Location was excellent. The entire experience was exactly what we wanted.

Review 127:Small bedroom but the likes made up for small space in our queen lodge room forest facing balcony

Review 128:Ocean view, quiet, delicious breakfast, beach, friendly staff, lounge with fireplace and rustic decor that suits the area.

Review 129:The staff and resort was absolutely fabulous. I was travelling with a large dog and they left a bed, cookies, two bowls and a hand written card if I needed anything more for my dog during our stay. It was AWESOME to see.

Review 130:the lock of the door is hard to open For hygiene reason, the utensil in the suite should be clean by dishwasher instead of guests

Review 131:the lobby is very cozy

Review 132:The location is amazing and great access to adjoining bays - leave the curtains open, wake up at dawn and go to the beach - stunning! The club house is really comfortable, almost colonial!

Review 133:Equipment in fitness facility was in poor condition. Some were broken down and not safe to operate. This was a disappointment to us and quite unexpected.

Review 134:The room was lovely and warm with a spectacular view through the forest out to the ocean.

Review 135:The dinner was not very good. Overcooked halibut with a sauce that was so loaded with salt we had to scrape it off the fish. The massive potatoes were undercooked and while salads are usually my favorite part of the meal, they were terrible. The desert was delicious. The value would have been there if the food was better. I've honestly never left so much food untouched on my plate.

Review 136:Super cozy cabins and very comfortable beds. The layout of the cabin was perfect for 4 people. We also enjoyed the breakfast and stopped by the bakery on our way home to purchase a couple of loafs of the bread at common loaf.
