Reviews for Auberge St-Louis

Review 1:It was very well located. The staff was very accommodating of a special need I had. Very good Wi-Fi connection. Always great to have this feeling of being in a centuries old place. A couple of minutes walk from Chateau Frontenac.

Review 2:Very well located near Château Frontenac. Comfortable room, mine had a spacious bathroom. Excellent wi-fi connection. I will return a week from now for New Year.

Review 3:Amazing view of the Ursulines school (1639) from an upgraded room with no neighbors. Excellent internet speed for streaming. Late Fall is the time to stay here if you want tranquility in the heart of the Upper Town.

Review 4:No elevator required climbing stairways that were a bit on the old side. We knew this coming in so no surprise.

Review 5:Excellent location for traveling in Old Quebec City. Staff helpful at all times. Room nice and bed comfortable.

Review 6:Need staff to be in the building. A fire alarm was accidentally triggered by a newly arrived guest from England. There was no one around to turn off the very loud alarm. Two fire trucks arrived before the situation was in hand. Much confusion. I stayed in this hotel 15 years ago. It has lost a lot of the charm it used to have. Difficult to communicate with staff. Great location but I was disappointed with what the hotel offered.

Review 7:Convenient location, but street is very noisy.

Review 8:The building is due for renovation. Outside air was blowing in through a 2 cm gap between the windowmounted airco and frame. Sound isolation is bad, my room was next to a shared bathroom.

Review 9:Staff was friendly and helpful. The place is kept clean.

Review 10:Staff at reception: I arrived at 6:00PM, my confirmation was not the same with the reception's record. The Chinese lady called someone, screaming and yelling on phone. After she hung up, she kept throwing things on table as I caused her trouble

Review 11:Location: near everything

Review 12:There was no instruction sheet or booklet for emergencies, a serious failing as there were no staff on site at night. For the price we accepted shared shower and toilet. No facility to brew up. No breakfast on site.

Review 13:Excellent location. Good price. Clean. Wifi useful. We had a quiet room at the rear of the property.

Review 14:the bed linen were not clean!!! Small room and noisy but due to the location. The price was indicated at 69 dollars at the hotel door but I paid 89 dollars with booking...

Review 15:The location and the parking

Review 16:The stairs. The step in the room. Lol I tripped every time. The wifi was ok but did cut out. Breakfast could of been included in the price seeing we had to go to another building.

Review 17:Everything was clean. Great location in old quarter. There was parking Breakfast was in another building but that was only next door. It could of been included in the price.

Review 18:It was too close to one of the biggest main roads, so in the morning there was a lot of noise. I could not sleep well because of that.

Review 19:It was a good comfortable room, with all essential things. The staff was really nice, the room was cleaned very well everyday. They had a common room as well where I could get things like a tea kettle, microwave and iron.

Review 20:How we were on the 4th floor and there were no elevators. The first 3 floors were regular stairs, but when going up the 4th floor, the stairs became steep. The washroom is also shared, though it was right next to our room, but we get a sink in our own room. Our door opens and closes pretty loud.

Review 21:The location is prime, walking distance from the docks, Fairmont hotel, other Quebec attractions. The parking is also just across the street and they provide you a parking card ($18 for 24hours, in and out).

Review 22:No negatives.

Review 23:Staff very helpful and pleasant. We needed a cab to the airport and this was done promptly. Our first time visiting beautiful Quebec City so appreciated the very central location to the old town. Great restaurants nearby etc.

Review 24:There was a stair in the middle of the room right after you enter it. This caused some slight problems. Additionally, there is only a single (so I think) bathroom that is shared by the entire floor.

Review 25:A good thing was the proximity to the old part of Quebec City.

Review 26:A little dated, but reasonable value for money. Bare minimum for towels - no hand towels and no face cloths.

Review 27:Great location. Protected parking close by. Breakfast option close by.

Review 28:It would be nice to install a coffee machine in the building, so we could have had our coffee without leaving the building.

Review 29:The location is perfect for visitors, since we were able to walk everywhere and leave the car at the parking lot during our stay.

Review 30:It was very basic but we felt lucky to have a bathroom in the room. The towels were really thin, and not very big. The bathroom had no ventilation or opening window, just a door that was taped up with electrical tape and a sign saying not to open. Would have been better to install an opening window. There was no where to hang your towel when you were in the shower and the lighting was very poor. Too dark in the evening. The bed was very hard, not comfortable. It was okay, but not great.

Review 31:It was centrally located 3 blocks from Chateau Frontenac and parking was just across the street. It was fairly clean.

Review 32:-concierge hours are 9am-10pm or so ... if you have to arrive late or leave early a bit annoying

Review 33:price and location. For students travelling on a budget ideal staff very nice, very accomodating. I left my ipad at the hotel and the staff called me to remind me!

Review 34:The desk clerk's English was very poor - she was the only person we encountered during our 5 day visit to Old Quebec who couldn't communicate with us. No fridge or coffee maker in the room. Could not access the "free" wifi on our phones.

Review 35:Excellent location.

Review 36:Very good location right in the old city and close to eating places and laundromat. Very pleasant and helpful staff. It is a rustic old building with some very quirky features such as the staircase and floors. We were located near the separate bathroom and it presented no problems at all. We tripped over the change in level in our bedroom a few times each! All part of the experience really of staying in this hotel. Simple adequate low cost breakfast available for 6,90$ea

Review 37:It is an old house in historic area. No elevator. I have to carry my luggage to 4th floor.

Review 38:1.Very good location on St Louise Street. 2.Hotel staff are helpful and 3. recommend a good restaurent. 3.Shared bathroom is always clean. 4. You can order breakfast or not. 5. I stayed on 4th floor. It is quiet.

Review 39:clean comfortable facilities. We did a lot of walking so were only there at night-time.enjoyed the beautiful city, the bike race was a plus, great tour guides-thanks

Review 40:Wi-Fi is somewhat unreliable.

Review 41:Very well located, one minute walk from Château Frontenac at the heart of Old Québec. Plenty of restaurants around. Basic comfort, friendly staff, easy parking access, breakfast included in a nice restaurant.

Review 42:Small rooms, showing signs of wear and tear. Property could use an upgrade. Front desk staff was helpful enough

Review 43:Property is in ideal location. About what was to be expected for the price. Nothing fancy met our needs

Review 44:The fourth floor, but we we were just better @ making the least # of trips up. Then again with the great price an extra step or forty wasn't that difficult.

Review 45:Location!!! Never anyone to wait for in the bathroom and a sink in your room.

Review 46:They were advertising $10 less on the sidewalk than my booking thru this site. This is a budget operation with bare bones decor and amenities. As a senior citizen I found it difficult to climb to the 4th floor with luggage.

Review 47:Location

Review 48:Not a bad experience but after 10 hours of wandering Quebec on foot, those stairs are hard if your on the 4th floor. Walking up drunk is harder...lol

Review 49:Location. Right in old Quebec. Within 10 mins walk of so many points of interest

Review 50:was no toilet in the room for 2 nights had to move 4 time's , didntnt realize u pay nearly 100 per night and there wouldn't b a toilet in the room ?? didn't read the small print should have my mistake , but they gave me 2 rooms changing after 2nights to a bunk room with toilet , so small the bathroom and no where to hang clothes ?? got charged extra for a toilet lol terrible , tried talking to the owner and she said I was the problem ? have travelled a lot and I am pretty easy going but the noise at night from air conditioner etc and which were only in some rooms not in the one I was in kept me awake lol .. should be a hostel not a hotel ?? I could go on but I enjoyed Quebec had a great time pity about the acc

Review 51:location

Review 52:Toilets and bathroom are not in the bedroom. Compared with the price, it is scandalous. In the bathroom, the windows is broken and a simple paper tries to fix it.

Review 53:The location

Review 54:No real bad experience only thing we had yo tell them the night before if we wanted to have breakfast there. Just not use to that type of travelling.

Review 55:Love the location

Review 56:The hotel is old (like all in "Old Quebec") and hence within the building it can be a little noisy if there are other guests that are not respectful of quite hours. Although we did not have any major issues with this.

Review 57:We loved the location and our room was everything we needed for our 3 night stay. Our room was on the second floor and overlooked the courtyard which was ideal (overlooking the street would have been noisy). We liked having a room with a sink and a shower.

Review 58:We had 2 rooms on second floor reached by steepish stairs: smaller room at the back had a step inside it which was difficult not to fall over as small room, although no harm done as carpeted. Larger room had sash window left open with no cords in sash so we did not dare shut/open it further in case it fell down! No mosquito screen and did get bitten one night when there.

Review 59:Great location just 3 minutes walk from Terrasse Dufferin. Good to have sink in both rooms and shared bathroom was never busy and kept in good, clean condition with plenty of towels, soap, shampoo etc. Able to leave our bags in hotel on final day as getting late night train and they called a taxi for us to Gare Ste Foy.

Review 60:The wifi can be a bit spotty, but works well overall. Stairs to the third floor can be steep, especially with a suitcase and no elevators.

Review 61:Location was excellent! We had a private washroom, so that made things better. The room was a decent size and cozy. Will definitely return for further trips to Quebec!

Review 62:Climb to 4th floor, no elevator, no air conditioning.

Review 63:Location amazing" steps from everything. We were on the 4th floor. The stairs are a killer inappropriate for carrying up luggage. Very steep and narrow. Room very small. No air conditioning but a good floor fan. Didn't spend much time in the room though. Price was right compared to other similar places. Discount on breakfast. Cheapest breakfast around and it was very good. Bacon, eggs, toast, coffee and fruit. I would definitely return for the price but ask for a lower floor. I did see a number of air conditioning units, maybe going to install? Property needs some updating for sure. Our room, 45, did seem like it had been updated.

Review 64:we where on the 4th floor it was very short I had to duck in the room to get into bed on the one side as well as bathroom had a huge slanted wall in front of toilet not the best for by 6'2 husband and we both had to duck in the shower. The other bathroom we saw was much better.

Review 65:We enjoyed the great location. I liked that are room had a small sink in it, as we shared a bathroom.

Review 66:No airconditioning it was too when we got there. I asked the staff to show us how to open the window. I've been asked to wait and I've been told that I am not a big time customer so I should wait.

Review 67:Bathroom is so so tiny, parking can be a pain, and the stairs are steep for carrying your luggage up.Also kind of rough to unload your car on the main st. HINT..across the street is the parking garage it may say full but it might not be go to the corner make a right and pull in front of the garage door it will open swipe your card you will have 10min to find a spot without your card being charged...if no spot just drive out the exit...cost $18 american per day to park....

Review 68:Location is excellent, great place for breakfast right across the street,it"s very old but very clean, definetly worth the money and a great place to stay....

Review 69:Not a bad experience but I would have liked a refrigerator in the room.

Review 70:It was in the heart of the old city so very convienant and within walking distance of sites we wanted to visit.

Review 71:Wifi did not work properly. No one told us if we could borrow an iron or a hair dryer or the kettle. We saw these things lying near the reception and had to ask if we could use it. Breakfast is not included in the price.

Review 72:If you are travelling by motorcycle, it's a long trek from the underground parking at Mercier and St. Jean street with your gear to the hotel. Motorcycles are not allowed in the Old City wall - this we did not know until we got there.

Review 73:It's right in the heart of the town so that was a bonus.

Review 74:Opening door with key painful for arthritic fingers. No facility for cup of tea.

Review 75:Location, help in finding local laundry etc. Some staff ever so helpful. Great breakfast.

Review 76:small, cramped room, no fridge, no ice bucket, no phone, no elevator, no soap, uneven floors in the room, uneven stairs, cheap, uncomfortable couch, lack of electrical outlets, poor lighting and a small, shabbily installed window air conditioner.

Review 77:convenient location

Review 78:Perfect place for a trip to Quebec City!! Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends! Loved the location and the room was everything I needed! Thank you

Review 79:The stairs to climb up with a heavy luggage, but its part of the old Quebec city charm which I loved! The breakfasts in the lobby, not appealing ate outside every day.

Review 80:The staff where friendly and accommodating. They cleaned up very well. It was a great cheap place that was within walking distance to everything in the city. Will be back again!

Review 81:Located in the heart of Old Quebec within walking distance to most tourist points of interest. Off street parking in a secure garage with daily discount for staying at hotel

Review 82:The bed could have been a bit bigger, but still very comfortable.

Review 83:The front desk clerk was very friendly and informative. She always had a smile on her face. The room was very clean and comfortable. The parking was in a great location to hotel

Review 84:The lack of adequate service from other staff (other than Emilia who was friendly and helpful). Could not even get our two glass drinking glasses exchanged for clean ones during the three days we were there, even after making a specific request a couple of times! Not impressed! Also the coin-operated drink machine would not accept any of our change or from other guests there either.

Review 85:The Location & friendliness & helpfullness of Emilia.

Review 86:BUT our room was right at street level and it was SO LOUD until midnight. If you can sleep through city noises it wasn't too horrible.

Review 87:Wonderful location if you want to walk everywhere. LOVED the location....

Review 88:Some noise from the street- cars, people.

Review 89:Excellent location in the Historic District, room recently renovated, new mattress, very clean, friendly staff with positive attitude. Safe underground parking across the street ($22-24h) Hotel gives you $4 discount but go to the hotel's reception desk before you enter into parking lot. $7 breakfast, basic choice but served with the big smile.

Review 90:The hostel is right in the old town near to a small store many restaurants. The staff is very kind. The rooms are small but clean and very simple. Perfect if you are staying just for some nights. It's an old building.

Review 91:Wee room. No lift, but hey, for this cash I'm not complaining - abed-night cost the same as Aberdeen Youth Hostel uk !!

Review 92:Location. Total cheap but cheerful European ambiance. Genuine atmosphereof old Quebec, plenty of eateries round about and slap=bang in thrmiddle of the old town, 200m from the citadel and the Chateau Frontenac.

Review 93:The first room we were given was very small however we were given a more suitable room immediatly upon asking

Review 94:Friendly,very helpful staff.Breakfast was great. The parking was so handy and the best thing was the location

Review 95:We were on the 4th floor and to get up to our room we either had to go up slanted stairs that needed major maintenance or the back stairs which had air conditioning units and all sorts of other items on them, making it very dangerous & unattractive.

Review 96:The location was excellent, we were right in the center of everywhere we needed to go!

Review 97:No elevator, it wasn't a problem for us but it could be for older persons.

Review 98:Perfect position right in the center, and the related restaurant where we had the included breakfast was very nice

Review 99:Service at b'fast needs improving, very abrupt, reluctant to fill coffee cup. Bacon is one strip burnt, homefries under cooked and cold.Crepe is heavy too much flour. Fruit is very thin slice of apple and orange on plate.

Review 100:location excellent, rooms small similar to what you get in france. room at higher level so hot water/pressure fine.Clean room fresh towels daily

Review 101:Bed was not so comfortable.

Review 102:Good location on a quiet street close to the walls, short walk to touristy areas and less-touristy areas. Breakfast is included and pretty good. Staff was nice. Parking ($18/day) was right across the street. Basic room was clean with good wifi.

Review 103:Breakfast was under my expectation, based on previous reviews. It did not make the overall experience better.

Review 104:Location is great and staff is kind and helpful.

Review 105:I was on the fourth floor up some very steep steps. The roof was quite slanted in the rooms and the wifi not very strong. Still a good experience.

Review 106:Staff were really friendly. Room was very clean. Very central location to everything including all the tourist attractions. Very comfortable stay.

Review 107:The shared bathrooms are very clean and comfy. Ice machine is awesome! Breakfast is great! Very relaxing placeto stay. Surrounded by great places in Old Quebec City.

Review 108:- it's an old building so the walls are fairly thin (the man next door snored pretty loud...) - we had a room that gave onto the main road which was a little noisy (but very manageable)

Review 109:- the location was excellent - the room was very clean and although not necessary, sheets and towels were changed daily - the breakfast was better than expected (sit-down concept with choice of eggs, French toast or crepe) - staff was lovely

Review 110:the absence of a lift but understandable in a beautiful old building. Needs to be emphasised, though, as we seniors do not find it easy to heave baggage down from the second floor!

Review 111:the position in the old city is excellent. Spotlessly clean and furnished attractively. Very good breakfast, a choice and cooked to order. The shared toilet was actually not a problem.

Review 112:Room with small window high up, you can not look out and you can not open the window. Fresh air through aircondition only. Breakfast service not profesional, cold coffee and cold omelette was served.

Review 113:The wireless internet, although always running, did not have the best signal in my room.

Review 114:Hotel is clean and has everything you need. Even though I stayed in a room with a shared bath, I still had a sink in my room and did not have any issues accessing the bathroom. The room had a fan and the hotel was quiet at night. The breakfast in the morning was great! It is not fancy but if you're looking to travel on a budget, this place is perfect.

Review 115:Air con worked well but you needed to avoid stepping on the electrical supply cable stretched across to the unit. Also at night the curtain covered the unit which made it ineffective.

Review 116:Ideal location in the old city from which to walk to all the main tourist sights. Accommodation had everything required including en-suite bathroom, air con and good breakfast included.

Review 117:Parking is difficult. They are supposed to have a parking card for a nearby lot, but they never had enough so we had to find our own place to park.

Review 118:Nice little hotel in the old city. Great value for the money. Breakfast was nice (french toast, crepes or eggs) and the room was neat and clean.

Review 119:no elevator

Review 120:we were traveling with an infant so it was difficult bring the large stroller up and down the stairs. but the staff belief is carry it whenever possible! with a smile! :) location was fantastic, as well as our room which had so much old world character!

Review 121:Very well located at the heart of Old Québec. Very decent room, on 4th floor with a view over rooftops. Nice staff. Good breakfast included. First week-end together, my boyfriend and I, it was pure bliss and we enjoyed our romance there. And it happened to be Gay Pride week-end in Québec. But we preferred to spend it in that lovely room... Please give it a 10.

Review 122:The lobby desk area has stained carpets and old furniture. It was misleading because my room and bathroom and bed were very clean.

Review 123:I loved this old hotel. It had character. The breakfast was the best I ever had that was included in the price. Parking was at an additional cost but was very secure and handy and worth it at $18 per day.

Review 124:Some people at table next to us rushing the waiter and raising their voice. Patience is a virtue especially when getting a free meal.

Review 125:We found this hotel the day before arrival. It is in perfect location. Includes breakfast and wifi. Garaged parking is $18 eighteen/day, well worth it just across the street for hassle free holiday. Breakfast is warm and made to order, small, yet filling. It is great slow European life, don't expect people to rush on your behalf, better not rush them either, for that there are great many orher hotels priced around $200. For the money $79/night this was best we ever stayed at in QC (6th weekend trip).

Review 126:I was on the 3rd floor and the internet signal didn't work there. No elevator. No microwave or mini frig in room. Sometimes had to wait to use the shared bathroom. Would wake up at 5:30 am when the garbage truck and street cleaners went by. Had to use ear plugs. NO air conditioning in the room. Thankfully they gave me a fan to use because it was very hot in my room. NO phone in my room. Friend called the hotel twice to try and leave me a message but they said "she doesn't live here". This confused my friend and could have been bad if it had been very important.

Review 127:Excellent location. Room was bigger than I thought it might be. Liked having a sink in my room. The breakfast in the basement was good. Wifi worked in the lobby and first floor. Older lady was friendly when I checked in. There was a mini frig and microwave by the pop machine on the first floor under the stairs.

Review 128:No air conditioner and refrigerator in the room. But there is a fan hanging from the ceiling.

Review 129:just before Place d'Armes and Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the best location ever! It takes just 5 min. to La Citadelle by walk. The room is really clean and neat. And dépanneur is close and it provides you to drink a can of beer before sleep :)

Review 130:The awesome position, the friendliness of staff, the convenient parking. The simple but delicious breakfast. The room was small but well organized and clean, with shower. The bed very comfortable.

Review 131:Given how expensive Quebec City is, I think Auberge St. Louis makes the job. The location is great, most of the rooms are pretty big and confortable, and it's perfectly clean! I would definitely go back!

Review 132:Last night move to a room at street level in front side of building with poor sound insulation,so it was a little too noisy. The Wifi was inconsistent

Review 133:View from the windows, clean rooms and location in the heart of the old city. My first 4 nights were on the 4th floor with big window on the back of the building, really quiet and beautiful.

Review 134:lighting poor. noise travels easily: some guest on second floor seem to be unaware of how much of their noises traveled thru walls. dirty carpet in hallway & stairwell although not in room #24 w/shower and wash basin. no paper towels nor auto hand dryer in the shared toilet closet. small bars of soap were provide and a single white cotton hand towel intended to be shared by all guest. (note: hand towels provided in room down the hall) I didn't dare touch towel in toilet closet for it appeared to be used. also, a single green plastic cup was supplied on side of faucets. for what? are paying guest suppose to consider sharing this? gross!

Review 135:water pressure. cleanliness of room mattress
