Reviews for Ecolodge - Tofino

Review 1:The signboard on the highway says only "Lodging" not "EcoLodge." When you see signs for the Botanical Garden, you're in the right place.

Review 2:Convenient location, friendly staff, lovely art work and natural wood furnishings. The environmentally focused library was an unexpected bonus.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:Love the amazing yummy natural breakfast that was provided. Great facilities such as the well equipped kitchen. Lovely surrounding and great location. Very good value for money!! Would love to come back!

Review 5:I can't seem to find a hair dryer in the room. Not sure if they provide one. Did not ask the front desk. No TV or in suite coffee maker but that did not bug us. They have coffee in the kitchen.

Review 6:We stayed at the suite. It was spacious. I also really liked the big kitchen. The staff was friendly and the freshly baked muffins and freshly made oatmeal were delicious. Loved the bread and jam made by local bakeries. I also really liked the toiletries they provided. They are made locally too from natural ingredients. My daughter had a good time at the botanical garden esp when the chicken were out.

Review 7:It was the perfect getaway for me as I wanted peace and tranquility and the Ecolodge had all that and yet the staff and atmosphere was both warm and welcoming. The gardens are superb and it is such unique and special place. Loved every day there.

Review 8:The Botanical garden with its variety of magical pathways that lead to the beach, the gardens, the Darwin cafe, and the lodge is what made this stay so deeeeelightful!

Review 9:We thought there would be more things in the gardens.

Review 10:It's close to nature and nice short hiking trails for the children. We felt quite at home. The staff made us feel welcome and even let us watch while they were making breakfast. It was so yummy! The large suite was excellent, with a nice patio looking out into the forest.

Review 11:I didn't realize that there was no TV...but that's good if you want to reconnect with others, I guess. The wifi needs some serious help in the rooms (down in the common area it was better).

Review 12:The kids could sleep in a nice quiet corner behind the wall. They loved the bunk bed! It was very private and well-designed.

Review 13:This hotel was very unique. If you want a place to stay that is quiet, clean, friendly staff and has a lower impact on the environment, this is the place for you!

Review 14:Single shared bathroom for everyone (male/female separate); required car to reach Tofino (in and out).

Review 15:Off season visit meant it was even quieter than normal; access to kitchen to prepare own food; spacious communal area; quality of showering products. Botanical gardens in same location, with access to seashore.

Review 16:Having to wash your own dishes after breakfast One bedroom suite didn't really have a separate bedroom Noise levels from floor above and outside room.

Review 17:Chatting with other guests

Review 18:The room is a bit dark. Without a car not very convenient to get to Tofino after 8.00pm.

Review 19:Great Service and lovely breakfast with homemade muffins. Fantastic surrounding with the trees and the energy of the botantical garden.

Review 20:Even though one needs to share bathrooms, those are extremly clean, well equiped and spacious. So no worries. Not really a drawback. And every room comes with nice comfy bath robes.

Review 21:Nice atmosphere, extremly nice stuff, charming setting and a lovely brakefast. A Palace to relax and enjoy. The botanical garden and Darwin's Café next door complete the magnificant setting.

Review 22:Ecolodge is doing some great things for good stewardship. Growing food, conserving power, no tv, nice comfy common areas, quiet and peaceful lication. We'll be back

Review 23:Female bathroom on 2nd floor as our room was on the first and quite far done the hall. Had to trip around 2x in the middle of the night. Not bad but a little reminiscent of my youth hostelling days.

Review 24:Great choice of healthy breakfast options. Friendly helpful staff when I accidentally spilled the coffee urn. Loved the exterior sculptures from enyry driveway thru to parkibg lot. Soothing forest atmosphere and hiked trails in botanical gardens. Shopped and got unique gifts at Darwin's cafe. Liked not being right in town with tourists but easy to bike, hike there if you wanted. Want to stay longer next time!

Review 25:nothing

Review 26:this hotel is very quite at all times, the staff are great, the rooms are big and very clean, they ,the garden is really a beautiful one with lots to enjoy in a peaceful setting, with great views, the breakfast was very tasty, good location not far from the downtown,

Review 27:Wifi was weak in some areas or I was not able to connect at all.

Review 28:Loved the location, the building itself, loved that everything is Mother Earth friendly! The staff was great, the delicious organic breakfast made with local ingredients was the icing on the cake for me. So welcoming and definitely somewhere I would stay again. I also loved that the showers had shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided - also from a local company! (I even bought some of the conditioner, it was so nice!) The rooms and bathrooms were very clean.

Review 29:Not much. Room a little dark but didn't spend much time in it.

Review 30:Breakfast excellent and lovely staff. Definitely check out the botanical gardens next door using the free pass and have some lunch in the wonderful surroundings.

Review 31:We were in the first room on the ground floor and at times it was a little noisy which I suppose can't really be helped.

Review 32:Lovely place to stay, rooms are big and the communal bathrooms are very well maintained with shampoo, conditioner and body wash all provided. Bath robes also provided for guests. Breakfast was excellent- all home made and very healthy. Would definitely recommend it.

Review 33:The only thing that was really hard for us was the noise from upstairs one night and the following morning, we could hear our neighbours' walking and talking. Otherwise it is a very quiet hotel.

Review 34:I loved this place. My family stayed in the Garden Suite (a room downstairs with its own bathroom). 1) It is a great location for a hotel. Cozy, green and rather private. Right between Tofino and the beaches. There is a grocery store very close to it. Ecolodge is a great for families with children! The Botanical garden seems to be created for kids. Try to look for an old boat, a hut, a gazebo that overlooks the ocean and a lot of other fascinating stuff in the garden! There are also nature programs for kids aged 3 to 7 every Tuesday. 2) There is a real kitchen with a stove, a fridge (no freezer), salt, oil, pots and pans. They offer you a kettle, coffee maker, hot water. The Garden Suite has its own sink and a counter (no personal fridge though :-). There is a little room with books although we never used it. 3) Their breakfast is tasty and very healthy. Every morning they offered oatmeal with a variety of dried fruit and nuts. Their muffins are delicious! 4) The Garden Suite has a balcony. It was great to sit out there on our first day and listen to a musical band which was having an event in the cafe there.

Review 35:excellent staff. very clean and very beautiful.

Review 36:Well maintained lodge, and botanical gardens, exceptional

Review 37:A brilliant whole-food breakfast: great muffins!

Review 46:Wifi in room slow but who really cares

Review 47:The view from the room and the tofino botanical gardens superb

Review 48:Had no dislikes

Review 49:Everything was good

Review 50:The dirt and pot-filled access road and the rain, though the latter isn't your fault.

Review 51:The location, the staff, the breakfast

Review 52:Loved the location with the botanical gardens , staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great. Thanks

Review 53:Would have liked more options for breakfast eg yogurt, eggs?

Review 54:The staff were friendly and wonderful.

Review 55:open access to gardens care towards ecosensitivity (water, lights etc) good parking quiet at night

Review 56:Beautiful location and very simple but comfortable lodging.

Review 57:Use of facilities outside of just our room.

Review 58:It is in the nature And calme

Review 59:Poor Wi-Fi.

Review 60:Nice eco cosmetics! Wild and green surroundings! You can see black bear. Free entrance to Botanical Garden.

Review 61:beautiful surroundings with the botanical garden nearby; very nice staff; exqusite breakfast; near Tofino

Review 62:The suite for 4 people never mentioned bunk beds. When booking we assumed there was 2 double beds. A bit of a diss appointment for 4 adults.

Review 63:Excellent location Quiet environment Eco friendliness

Review 64:Staff, breakfast, shampoo etc, shower, bed, library, garden, environment, Florencia beach, Mark Penney's gallery, Tofino fish and chips, Wickininish chowder and Noble wine.

Review 65:What a magical place! We loved Darwin's cafe and the paths through the woods. We loved the breakfast. The garden suite was wonderful and very comfortable.

Review 66:Communal bathroom meant it could be a long walk in the night to visit it, depending on room location, but it eas clean and pleasant. Not for luxury-seeking private people wanting their own self-contained facilities.

Review 67:An interesting and lovely location. Very clean. Pleasant and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent in a basic rustic room which was wonderful. Bed very comfortable. Facilities for preparing and storing food.

Review 68:They advertised a queen room being available on booking.com, which I booked. When I arrived I was given keys to a twin room (no warning that my booking was not to be honored). When I opened the door to the room I was totally shocked by seeing two twin beds. When I went down to the front desk to address the mix-up, I was given a very lame excuse from Katie that someone must not have updated booking.com when I made the reservation. But I have email correspondence from that same day with Harmony at the Eco lodge and there was a queen room available. Katie had to call the owner George to find out the discount and options available as we were not happy in the current predicament. I overheard from Katie's conversation that George had set his brother up in the queen room. I feel that there was a lack of professionalism in the way that the Eco lodge runs their business. It has great potential in the great facilities and beautiful property, but falls short in the credibility with the staff. We were given a small discount for our first night in the twin room, but this wasn't noted anywhere and I had to remind Phil at checkout that we were eligible for this. It appears everything is done on paper with pencil, including the booking schedule. Also, many of the signs around touting the environmental responsibility of the Eco lodge have errors on them. For example, they say they recycle Styrofoam. But I asked Katie and she said they don't actually. As well, they state on a sign that they compost all food waste. But we were told not to compost any dairy, meat or citrus. That isn't all food waste. Not big deals per se, but all adds up.

Review 69:The guest kitchen was amazing. Bins are provided to keep your food organized & together from other guests'. The gas range was great to cook on.

Review 70:The rooms very extremely overpriced. The lodge is basically a hostel, which is fine, but instead it was priced as a luxury hotel. We stayed in the Garden Suite, which included a queen bed and a bunkbed. We had not been able to find out any information about the bed arrangements in the suite, only that it slept four. We had three adults. The bunkbed was not comfortable for adults and the room was certainly not on par for a $200 per night suite. We were very disappointed. Breakfasts included bread, fruit and homemade muffins (which were quite good). It would have been nice to have had cheese, meat, eggs or some other type of protein.

Review 71:The location was very pleasant, and the design of the lodge was rustic and natural.

Review 72:I stayed in a room that did not have an attached bathroom, that was a bit difficult (book a room with an attached bathroom if you'd like to get away from the hostel feel).

Review 73:The breakfast including local food was a treat each day. Additionally touring the gardens and having the cafe on site was helpful for relaxing.

Review 74:EXTREMELYEXPENSIVE for what you get. Very noisy - we could actually hear the people above us using the toilet and talking. No TV, No Radio, WiFi only in the entry area not in the room, bathroom window didn't work, no telephone, no hair dryer, breakfast of only toast, oatmeal and coffee.

Review 75:It was clean.

Review 76:We were with you for only one night and we enjoyed it, space, clean, good breakfast, price....very satisfied.. Colette Gaudreau, from Quebec,,... Thanks

Review 77:Our stay was only one night so everything was great. Slightly isolated.

Review 78:The staff/breakfast were excellent.Everything was clean but frugal. Very enviromentally friendly...beautiful botanical gardens on site and free for guests. Breakfasts were homecooked. Wifi access!!! Very user friendly!!!! Cooking priviledges for longer stays and families.

Review 79:I think the Ecolodge is quite expensive for what you get (compared to other hotels). We paid 260 Canadian dollar for 5 persons. Considering that you don't have a high standard (partly shared bathroom and very simple equipment) this seems to be too much to me.

Review 80:The Ecolodge looks very cosy (made of wood) and you're in pure nature. The atmosphere is very nice if you like the rustic style of the house. The rooms are clean. The staff is very friendly. Although breakfast usually starts at 9 am, we got it earlier when we asked for it (good service). Next to the Ecolodge there is a botanic garden where you can go for a walk in the forest.

Review 81:Awesome breakfast. Nice staff. No one t front desk after 10 pm.

Review 82:everything was very natural and close to nature. The breakfast was excellent and homemade. The whole concept is amazing…Best value in the village
