Reviews for Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

Review 1:Everyone we encountered was so incredibly friendly and welcoming. We traveled with two young children who at times were loud or misbehaving while we were in the restaraunt and the staff couldn't have been more kind and respectfu. The waitress brought out extra jars of strawberry jelly for my son who choose to eat jelly out of the jar for breakfast and even slipped him an extra to go!

Review 2:No one told me we can not use the hair dryer and water boiler at the same time and electricity shut down. It was very bad for me and my mon coz it was her first time to be in canada and I wanted to give her a good memory for everything. So she was angry with this situation coz if she was not with me but this happened, I can not do anything.

Review 3:Good location, very kindness people and the impressive dog in the lobby

Review 4:$26 for a glass of wine is way excessive. My experience tells me any amount over $12-$13 is "gouging"a customer based on your cost of a wine and profitability at even $12-$13 dollars. This sent us the 1st day message to have wine and food somewhere other then the Fairmont.

Review 5:1st class hotel!

Review 6:When I booked the room the reservation process is worded like this, "Perfect for 7 people". And yet I was charged an extra $30 for having "an extra adult in one of the rooms that are meant for 2 adults per room only". I should explain that my party ended up being only 6 people and apparently I didn't get charged for my 14 year old daughter. This charge came out of no where! The hotel also charges for internet. We were charged for a chocolate bar (which cost us $5.18) when none of us had touched ANYTHING! Complete rip off. I have stayed in Quebec City on 4 other wonderful occasions and have always dreamed of staying at the Chateau Frontenac. Don't bother. The Chateau Bellevue and the Chateau Sur la Cap are on the same beautiful square, are much more friendly and reasonable and no surprise charges!!!

Review 7:There is nothing quite like looking at the Old city skyline and seeing prominently the hotel that you are going to be staying at. It is absolutely breathtaking to look at!!

Review 8:Wifi was not free.

Review 9:Location is wonderful. The grounds, views from hotel and the hotel itself are all very charming. The staff and service at this hotel is top notch. All extremely helpful and pleasant. I especially enjoyed the steam room after working out in the gym. It was our first stay at this hotel but definitely not our last!

Review 10:Hotel public space and room was unimpressive. There are nicer hotels for the same amount of money. Also, they charger for wifi in both public spaces and private rooms. The bar is too small to accommodate the business.

Review 11:Location

Review 12:Food service was overpriced and slow. Hotel appeared to be short staffed in every department. Check-in took 20 minutes. Room was noisy.

Review 13:Location and bellmen staff were good.

Review 14:Breakfast not included

Review 15:Everything, the location, nicely decorated for the hollidays and charm to the hotel. Happy and helpful staff. The room was big and charming as well. It was FANTASTIC!! We will certainly stay there again.

Review 16:Women who checked us in on December 4th at noon.

Review 17:This was our first stay. Checked in downstairs but stayed in a gold room Women who checked us in extremely ruse. However, once we realized the 14th floor for Gold rooms everything was fantastic.

Review 18:I was given a Fairmont gift card for the Spa, but the only Fairmont it can be used in, is Vancouver, not Quebec City. So I will follow this up in the New Year.

Review 19:Absolutely awesome one of the best hotels we have stayed in, we were upgraded to a bigger and higher room with wonderful views. The staff are amazing so friendly and helpful.

Review 20:Our room 2202 was right in front of a female washroom. I was told there was a Christmas party going on in the ballroom. So the whole night it was noisy and you can hear people outside our room gossiping waiting to go To the washroom. And one point the door the ballroom was prompt open so you hear the music for part of the night. Just very poorly planned I say. after that early in the morning the door to the ballroom roughly around 7. All you heard all morning was door opening and slamming. It was a rough night and morning. We call the front desk to let them know and all we got for answer was there 5 Christmas party going on here so there not much we can do tonight. Eventually in the morning I had to go to the front desk and let them know again.

Review 21:The location of the Fairmont le Chateau Fontenot is excellent, as is the staff. The history and beauty of the hotel only adds to its charm. We would HIGHLY recommend it as THE place to stay when visiting Quebec.

Review 22:There was absolutely nothing that one could say was not wonderful!

Review 23:We had a beautiful & luxurious corner room in one of the turrets overlooking the St.Lawrence River as well as a private concierge with superior service provided to us at every turn. The concierge at the main desk also surprised us with a box of specialty chocolates and lovely card delivered to our room to congratulate us on our Wedding Anniversary!

Review 24:I adore the Chateau but we were the only ones there and so I feel that Bookings should have done more to get us a better room.

Review 25:Love the chateau but a tiny little room when the hotel was empty...really empty,

Review 26:The air conditioning unit in our room was a bit loud and clunky, but it didn't stop us from sleeping and was much less jarring once you recognized the sound

Review 27:Location was perfect! The hotel and rooms are beautiful and the view stunning! The staff was attentive, professional and helpful. The concierge went above and beyond and completely out of her way to assist us on our last day there. In awe.

Review 28:Room temperature was hard to control, noisy window unit was either too hot or too cold, but the bed was nice and warm.

Review 29:Great place to stay for 3 nights in mid winter, a lively town and nicely maintained, friendly hotel. Lots of restaurants, stores and interesting places to wander within walking distance.

Review 30:1) We had booked two queen rooms for a night's stay. We arrived, and were generously offered an upgrade for 45% of the price of the room for the same room but with a view (although the offer was very confusing). We refused this offer, and ended up with the "internal courtyard" view (i.e. no view). This was not a major problem, but we wished that the descriptions of the room on Booking.com had been clearer as to our room options. 2) We were mainly disappointed by the fact that the hotel charges CAD 16.00 for internet access per day, unless you volunteer your personal information to join the fair mount club. 3) The hotel is also gigantic, host to many events such as conferences and office Christmas parties (which was our case). This can be a problem if you seek a quiet night. In our case, a few drunkards were found screaming in our corridor in the middle of the night and we had to confront them to put an end to it. 4) The magnetic cards were easily demagnetized in the presence of a cell phone. 5) Finally, beware that the booking.com price does not include Federal and Provincial taxes, a hefty 15%, as well as the Quebec City "hospitality" tax (I believe a fixed amount per day of stay). My bill for two rooms went up from CAD 378 to CAD 446. If you're looking for a quiet night's stay and customer value, you're probably better off staying at one of the smaller boutique hotels in the area...

Review 31:The hotel's location, situated in the middle of the Old Town.

Review 32:I booked both rooms. We were celebrating 25th Anniversary. The couple with us got a room three times bigger..

Review 33:Room was nice. The couple with us got an upgrade. We did not . Beautiful spa. Staff makes you feel special.

Review 34:For the price I paid I would have expected better service- witi was an additional charge, when I pulled up to the front door I wasn't informed that my car would be valeted and parked myself, i needed an extended check out due to unforeseen circumstances from my business meetings and was told i couldn't have it, the curtains in my room were torn- not what i expect from a 5 star. I won't be booking at the Frontenac again.

Review 35:Price is expensive. After room service they didn't lock the door, was left unlocked. Didnt feel very clean.

Review 36:The location and the building was beautiful

Review 37:$13.95 a day for WiFi is outrageous in this era of free WiFi everywhere else. And charging for putting items in the refrigerator is "mickey mouse." Dufferin breakfast was not high quality, especially for the price.

Review 38:Beautiful pool. Location is ideal. Very helpful and friendly staff and no hassle for our lack of French language.

Review 39:One small suggestion for improvement: we found a clump of long blond hair in the shower near the shower door. My wife is a brunette and I have short dark hair, so it wasn't us. Thanks

Review 40:Fabulous building, location. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Review 41:The bathroom door!! Opening like a closet, with a big gap between the two panels, not ideal. And always getting stuck in it. Fortunately, I am not overweight!! And the pillows (no option to have non feather ones in the room. Needed to ask for it)

Review 42:The space of the room, the comfort of the bed, the view. Great staff always courteous. Valet parking, what an experience!! Pool was real nice too !! Loved the different Christmas trees in the lobby. And being close to old Quebec, a definite plus!!

Review 43:Goofy waiter in restaurant failed to greet us within 15 minutes; we got up and walked out.

Review 44:Superb location in Quebec City overlooking St Laurence Seaway. Pleasant room, comfortable bed, everything clean. Friendly staff.

Review 45:Loved everything about our stay, booked a gold room, concierge service was wonderful. Definitely off season, but was a nice pre-Christmas vacation weekend.

Review 46:Bar area to small, and wine prices much to expensive. Also being reminded to pay a gratuity by the bar and bistro waiters was insulting

Review 47:Location, atmosphere

Review 48:Front desk did not answer the phone several times - I was put on hold! Valet parking had trouble locating our vehicle for departure - took over half an hour; we were waiting outside at the front of the hotel; very cold; not impressed!

Review 49:The professionalism and knowledge of the staff. Also liked the private lounge on 14th floor. Room was lovely.

Review 50:There was a dirty sock in our room when we checked in.

Review 51:The quality of the Hotel and surroundings are just Beautiful. The staff were very polite and very helpful

Review 52:The price on the room seemed fair. The price of stuff other than the room was disappointing.. 9 dollars for a bottle of water ? should be free in the room. 35 dollars for half a bottle of wine? no chocolates on the pillow ? fresh flowers ?

Review 53:Location The hotel itself Staff

Review 54:My stay was too short.

Review 55:Loved the high water pressure! Amazing place overall. Culture in Quebec City is of very high caliber. People dress nice and the food is amazing.

Review 56:Had booked a Queen room with view of St Lawrence. Was changed to King with poor view of St Lawrence (mostly US Consulate) Room was mostly clean, but dusty (behind bedside lamps) Noisy with staff opening and closing doors in front of our room and airline crew late arrivals and moving from room to room (was like a swingers convention).

Review 57:ChateauFrontenac

Review 58:Just nothing.

Review 59:The Château Frontenac is THE sightseeing at Quebec. To live there on the top floor, overlooking the St. Laurance River and the whole scenery is like a dream. The Services are TOP!

Review 60:though there is a confusion regarding price - overpricing doesnt mean higher quality - sometimes it is not even related. Cleaning ladies did not made the beds, just pulled the duvet without even moving the pillows from below it.

Review 61:Location, attention from most of the staff -

Review 62:Cleaning in the room was not up to standard. Dusty lampshades and tabletops should not be found in a place such as this.

Review 63:What's not to like about this hotel? Perfect location and fantastic site in itself. A treat when visiting Quebec.

Review 64:- our room had a broken sink (a huge hole!) - late check-out for CAD 300,00 for 3 hours - expensive breakfast (it's good, but I had much better breakfast for less money before) - swimming pool & spa area is rather small - no free Wifi in rooms (only in lobby)

Review 65:- beautiful hotel in the heart of Quebec City - good restaurants and a great bar - comfortable bed

Review 66:Wifi costs $15, everything in the room is on sensors so if you touch it, your room gets charged and you have to call to get them to confirm you didn't open anything. When you're already paying a bunch - this adds unnecessary stress. Unless you go to the spa or something the only real feeling of luxury is maybe at the pool, but the hottub was closed for maintenance the night that we stayed there for our anniversary.

Review 67:The building itself is very nice

Review 68:We enjoyed this spectacular property and perfect location to walk to great restaurants and shops. Overall, our stay was very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful in every way.

Review 69:Windows of our room are small due to the original structure of the Château. You may want to stay in lower floor to have bigger window. However, you may not get such spectacular view on the lower floor.

Review 70:Great location with a spectacular view of the St Lawrence river. Stroll along the boardwalk.

Review 71:Old dated rooms. No free WiFi no details. Do not pay min 500$ per night to stay here. Just go to visit as the property is beautiful but the rooms are dated dark and smell old.

Review 72:It was our 45 wedding anniversary. The concierge made sure the entire hotel was informed about a special occasion. The hotel treated us great in a number of ways.

Review 73:Mini bar/snack prices absurd! $9 for a liter of water, $35 for 1/2bottle of wine No Way! With $$$ cost of room, water should have been provided!

Review 74:Gold lounge did not have alcohol included. I am an elite member at other hotels like Marriott and even they serve free wines and spirits with their canapies and h'orderves. Also evening snacks and breakfast selection could improve (maybe it's perfect for non vegetarians).

Review 75:Decor, staff, location, service, grandeur, cleanliness, high tea :)

Review 76:The cost of laundry service ..this is common to all hotels ...you could win hearts by making this more realistic..attached pic shows my laundry drying in the window

Review 77:Their attention to detail at Gold check in...the room was spacious and tasteful

Review 78:Although beds were very comfortable but pillows were extra soft. With this price i would expect to have bathroom skipper and shoe care kit.

Review 79:Location,decoration,bed comfort,facilities and toiletries.

Review 80:Very happy with the accommodation, the staff and cleanliness of the hotel. The location is also the best. Got a free upgrade as well. Very happy with our stay in the city we realy love to visit.

Review 81:Our first room got very hot during the night, but they moved us to a different floor and it was fine. The parking is valet only and took 20 min. to get our car. Very few rooms have bath tubs - just showers.

Review 82:The location is gorgeous. The staff was wonderful.

Review 83:My only comment here is that drinks at the bar were fairly expensive.

Review 84:The location was convenient to everything we wanted to see. The room was pretty, the air conditioning worked, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the shower delivered hot water. Staff were helpful, considerate, and friendly.

Review 85:I was never so disappointed in the quality of the hotel for the cost. We were two couples travel for 3 weeks visiting the St. Lawerence River, Canada area from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, to Quebec. staying 3-5 days in each location. We believed we needed to stayed at least one day here to experience Quebec since this hotel is the focus of every picture of Quebec, Total disappointment!! Save your money and just walk around the boardwalk outside. Nothing to see inside and additional costs for everything: parking, WiFi, breakfast, even drinks in the room. Self parking was about 10 minutes walk away from entrance with groups of steps up and down several flights to carry your luggage to get to hotel. Double beds, no view and when I asked the concierge staff, if there was a tour or an area to see the hotel or view the landscape better from in the hotel the answer was flat " No., we discontinued them too many people in hotel areas.. Again save your money.

Review 86:location and pool services, The pool changing area was large and well equipped.

Review 87:Booked 3 nights but changed to 2 nights due to unplanned circumstance. At change, price per night was changed by hotel so that 2 night pricewas almost same as the 3 night. Proceeded in anticipation of nice riverview room per original booking. Also requested a higher floororiginally. At check in, we did not get our original room we paidfor/reserved and also did not get a higher floor. View from room wasnot as good due to partial block by roof below. Front desk promised tochange to better room next day if available but Mr. Receptionist alsobecame almost rude and annoyed. We received no availability advise thenext day. We stayed in the same room. Disappointed. We would have optedfor a cheaper room with regular view had we known during reservationchange. Room was small.

Review 88:The perfect location, the bed, the lobby, complimentary breakfast due toroom unavailability at check in. Also Nina's (fit Agent) help rereservation change due to unavoidable event that caused one day lost inour weekend in Quebec.

Review 89:The room was compact, but well thought out. No storage in bathroom or even a dresser, but closet with automatic lighting when opened and a full length mirror on closet door T Small tub/shower combination. Small and low toilet.

Review 90:Perfect location Walk out the door and walk to most attractions, dining and shopping

Review 91:For the money, would have liked a river view room (we faced the city) and the bathroom was very tiny.

Review 92:Wonderful staff, service and amenities. Our particular room (a Gold level room) was beautifully appointed, and the bed was amazing. For being a luxury property, it was surprisingly welcoming, friendly and comfortable (not stuffy)

Review 93:the last day we had to ask the maid for towels at 3.30 our room was never made up valet parking was outrageous $ 35.00 a day no option was given we never moved our car in three days

Review 94:beautiful entrance lovely staff at welcome lovely resturants but overpriced! nice view

Review 95:The slippery tile around the indoor pool and the pillows were very hard and uncomfortable.

Review 96:Staff was wonderful, especially Mademoiselle Christine at the reception desk.

Review 97:Only issue is they charge for wifi, but it is free if you going the Fairmont club at no charge.

Review 98:Excellent hotel, friendly helpful staff, perfect location, newly renovated room.

Review 99:I did mention in writing and at the front desk that I required a walk in shower--handicapped. Our room had a bathtub shower instead. However, the room was so lovely that I decided not to mention it but thought you should know.

Review 100:Third time at your hotel. Love it!!! We signed up for the Pres. Club awhile ago so had free wi-fi, an upgrade and since we drive a hybrid car--free parking. We told the front desk that it was an anniversary celebration, were given a lovely corner room and were greeted with some petite confections and a card when we arrived at our room. The amenities, rose scented, were divine!

Review 101:Spa was not nice at all: cold environment, too bright lights when it should have been darkened; not a nice environment at all. Massage itself was not very special. I would not do again.

Review 102:great location and history of the building and Quebec city

Review 103:Our room did not have a view as we had requested. They moved us to another room which would have had a view except that a large tree blocked it. They also charged us more for the second room which was not the plan so I had to request a refund which they did.

Review 104:You can't beat the location.

Review 105:Everything about the hotel was great, and nearly all of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. However, while waiting for the valet to bring our car around after checkout, the bellman just dropped our bags on the top of the steps outside and left them unattended. This included a purse of mine, and a raincoat which made it way to the ground as people rushed past to check into the hotel. My husband was busy at the valet stand, so he was no where near the luggage. When the car finally came around, the bags had to be lugged down a couple of stairs. It would have been more convenient for them to be near the curb. After a great overnight stay, we felt a little discarded after checkout. It just made a near perfect experience a little less so.

Review 106:Loved the feeling of being in a beautiful historic property, but with the most modern and comfortable amenities. Beautiful bathrooms, comfortable bed, and spacious room. Food and service at the restaurant were wonderful.

Review 107:Wi fi was very expensive considering it's often offered free in more modest hotels. The shower is our room was terrible - poor pressure and inconvenient to turn on (you had to reach through the shower to adjust it). Otherwise the room was terrific!

Review 108:Location. The history of the property. The view. The atmosphere. The restaurant overlooking the seaway. The staff.

Review 109:Service was otherwise excellent, expect for condescending and snobbish attitude from clerk at check in when we refused her attempt to upsell us on a room.

Review 110:Very expensive for what you get. We paid CAD 700 odd (including taxes) per room per night but there wasn't even any complimentary drinking water in the room. Check-in and check-out service was below average. Except for the great location, nothing else to go for other than the heritage aspect of this hotel.

Review 111:Only the location, architecture and heritage aspect of the hotel.

Review 112:The bathroom door - noisy and hard to open and close. The fact that the hotel is like a cinderela castle - is a fake palace with lots of people entering in just to see it.

Review 113:Location, room confort and the pool spa service.

Review 114:Appalling service - the first encounter was with a condescending receptionist named Kim who was more interested in upsetling a more expensive package and became hostile when we refused CAD800 dollars per night clearly wasn't enough for her

Review 115:The prices are quite exuberant (i.e. breakfast was $75 for two of us!). Although the food was great, the prices were a bit steep.

Review 116:The staff was very friendly and helpful. We always felt welcomed and taken care of. The location was great, central to everything!

Review 117:2 favorite hotel beefs: Unless I'm downloading gigabites of data, why should I have to pay for wi-fi? $9 for a bottle of water in the room? Just chintzy!

Review 118:Wonderful location, attentive, polite staff. Very nice hotel

Review 119:There was so many things. I find it sad that the employees of Chateau Frontenac have the need to always address one in English, it would be much nicer to hear Bonjour. The quality of restaurant Champlain needs improvement, the prices are here too high for the quality. It is unfortunate that wines offered are of low quality and overpriced.

Review 120:Event though we had bad luck from the begining on, it was very good how the hotel handeled our situation. Of course a room with view of the St-Laurence is a fine thing. The executive Room on the 14th floor is a very nice idea and welcomed for cocktails.

Review 121:Sometimes took a long time to get an elevator. Fellow travellers had very bad experience at Le Sam, very poor service.

Review 122:Staff was very responsive to all requests... more hangers, no feather pillows, extra robe. Pool had bowl of fruit, ice lemon water by pool and in lobby.

Review 123:For $400 a night the room could be a bit bigger. You pay for the location of the hotel, not the rooms which are outdated and too small.

Review 124:Staff and location were great.

Review 125:For the price, room was OK. Had to pay for WI-FI!!!!! 8 Dollars for a bottle of water! Wasn't a fan of valet parking even though the guys were awesome!

Review 126:Location was spectacular. Extremely friendly service.

Review 127:When I explained I did not have a good sleep for my one night stay due to noisy location just outside the elevator upon checking out he simply made a note and offered no discount and kept saying he hoped I would return.

Review 128:Service at Champlain restaurant was excellent, especially server Mathieu and host/hostess. Pool and terrace staff were extremely professional and friendly.

Review 129:Most hotels offer free WiFi service these days. Very surprised to find out that there is charge for such service at this hotel.

Review 130:Good location and historic property.

Review 131:I basically like everything, but I was very, very desapoibted eith the size of the rooms and the toom is for 4 people and you have one chair- Through the years I was at tge Chateau many, msny times during Carnaval, and because of business, the rooms were amazingbut, thevteo rooms we had,for $ 575.00 a nite, for a total of 1500.00,let!s say that I and my sons and his wife a d kids, sere also very disapointed.

Review 132:We loved the breakfSt buffet, and our supper, and I must say Jean Francois was amazing, and made up for our disappoiintment.

Review 133:At these prices the Wi-Fi should have just been open and unrestricted, I had to join some commanders club, and it was only for 24 hrs, come on close to 400 a night, I should of had a breakfast and the best wi-fi there is...

Review 134:the bed, the location, the people..

Review 135:For this level of hotel, wifi should be provided, free. All other hotels do. Not one comfy chair in my $300 per night room!

Review 136:Very clean Excellent staff Wonderful bed and bathroom Very quiet Fast elevator
