Reviews for Black Rock Oceanfront Resort
Review 1:Room arrangement a bit odd, lots of sharp edges. sea view somewhat distant. Restaurant food was good but service error delayed meal significantly. Some dishes not available Bar didn't have all listed drinks
Review 2:Location, people and facilities were good.
Review 3:Breakfast was poor, portions were small and no buffet. Room clean however small amount of mould in the shower and shower temperature fluctuated.
Review 4:Amazing location, friendly staff, contemporary design, relaxed atmosphere.
Review 5:The only thing I didn't like was we had a restless sleep because we could hear the couple snoring in the room next to us.
Review 6:Loved the view from our balcony of the ocean. Our room was spotless when we arrived. The resort front desk called our room 2 hours after we checked in to see if there was anything we needed extra in our room which I thought was cool
Review 7:The food at Fetch was overpriced and some of the worst food I've ever had at a nice restaurant. The mosquitos attacking us non-stop had a better meal than my fiance and I did!
Review 8:The property is breathtaking and the island itself is a fun spot to visit.
Review 9:The outdoor hot tubs were not really able to be used because one was being serviced and the other was far too hot. We spoke to the front desk who said they would look into it.
Review 10:Excellent location to view & appreciate the rustic location. The restaurant food was fabulous and the service superb.
Review 11:Wifi was very slow. No large swimming pool. At the time only one hot tub working and not big enough so we could not get it.
Review 12:the location is fantastic. The breakfast was excellent. The rooms were good and the bathrooms were huge.
Review 13:Room was very warm with no AC. no screens on windows so no air flow. We left our bedroom window open on our last night but many mosquitoes joined us!
Review 14:The staff, the location
Review 15:Lunch in the lounge was bad. Ordered 4 appetizers - wings over cooked until there was nothing left. Short rib taco tasteless. Bruschetta tasted like plain pizza sauce. Calamari was just OK. Lighting over sink in our bathroom was bad like something out of a horror movie.Broken handles for the opening between bathroom and bedroom. Door locks and handle difficult to figure out to balcony.
Review 16:Staff and location were great. Reservation for dinner was excellent. Rooms were great with a few quirks.
Review 17:Deadbolt on the entry door did not work so we felt a little insecure. The balcony door was very difficult to open. Some maintenance is required. Bathroom sink did not seal & continued to drain
Review 18:The serenity & the scenery
Review 19:Cleanliness very poor. Carpets in hallway stained badly also in the room. Dust on TV in bedroom very bad. Kitchenette's oven disgusting dirty and countertop filthy.
Review 20:Location; staff at reception desk very friendly.
Review 21:would loved to have had a room with a view of the ocean instead of into trees
Review 22:location; clean; quiet; very helpful staff and friendly; restaurant food was good and somewhat different; lounge was enjoyable; close enough to town
Review 23:The bathroom had a gaping hole which allowed insects to enter. The hair dryer quit on me within 1-2 minutes. The bathroom sink faucet was improperly attached to the sink and seemed ready to come apart. It was my birthday celebration and I was disappointed there was no special dessert with our expensive dinner and wine.
Review 24:The food was very good. The atmosphere was wonderful.
Review 25:No maid service until third day of visit. I expect my bed to be made and the room tidied each day when paying these rates.
Review 26:The view from the resort was magnificent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 27:Difficult to get dinner reservations, although in fairness booking a table is recommended on the website. Definitely you should book in advance for your first night. Above average sound transmission between rooms for a hotel of this quality, although fortunately our neighbours were not noisy. Would appreciate better lighting in the bathroom.
Review 28:Stunning location, spacious suite, very pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant . Kitchen area well equipped with good quality appliances.
Review 29:Place is good most of the staff are good except for the waiter guy in our lunch on Saturday August 22 he is not accommodating and not happy with his service, we see him that he is nicer to other customer than to us, maybe because they are wife people and we are Asian. We ask some advice for the food that they serve he never give any, he say " it's up to us". Is that the he treat the new guest? But on our dinner is our waitress was much nicer, accommodating and very friendly she very kind to us, she also more knowledgeable on the food that they serve. I wish she was the one who serve us on our lunch, we are totally happy. I wish when we come back there she will be our server again not the unfriendly guy. Room is hot ao we need to open the window but we got lots of mosquito bites in the morning.
Review 30:We love the place especially my kids. But when we are going to comeback next year we make sure that we will get the 1 bedroom at the front of the water. Our dinner in Fetch restaurant is very good, we all very satisfied with the food and our kind server. Room is good but kids are not comfortable with the sofa bed. So next year we will back and get the ocean view with one bedroom. Staff was very kind and very helpful, except for that guy who serve us in our lunch. We love the place is more relax and peaceful.
Review 31:Our room overlooked the ocean! Spectacular! Close to the walking trail again with spectacular views! Black Rock is Tofinos hidden treasure. Stay here and a short scenic drive to the beaches
Review 32:The main room and bathroom was rather dark and the sofa bed was uncomfortable for my teenage children. Also on late arrival it was not made up for us and we had to make the bed up ourselves despite the fact they knew we were a party of 4. The hotel didn't have aircon and as it's very warm in August, it got quite stuffy in the bedroom even with the fans provided. Casual dining restaurant/ bar stopped serving minors after 7 which was too early for us and you needed to book for the other restaurant in the evenings.
Review 33:The hotel was in a perfect location and the rooms were very spacious and welcoming. The views from the room and balcony were spectacular
Review 34:I understand it was an overwhelming summer for the staff with wedding events. Shortage of staffing is the main issue from housekeeping to the restaurant. Also, the bread served needs to be made by a real professoonal pastry chef. The rooms were rushed cleaned and had to wait for over one hour to officially before going Inside.Found blond hair strands in the shower and the tub had "rusted" water running.¡
Review 35:The amazing oceanfront views and the staff were friendly. The design and layout of the suite were family & eldrerly friendly.
Review 36:The staff were fantastic - we had a problem with our fridge and they were straight over after I called. The location was perfect and the restaurants were both very good (the lounge was very good value). I have nothing bad to say about this resort!
Review 37:The place is stunning. Breathtaking views from the room. Surrounded by wonderful trails. An incredible pl The place is stunning. Breathtaking views from the room. Surrounded by wonderful trails. An incredible ace.
Review 38:We booked our stay in the pacific suite. It was pleasant and peaceful the first three days, exactly what we expected. Then the hotel placed a family with multiple kids above us and all peacefulness was lost. The hotel knew we were on our honeymoon. We hoped for a stress free relaxing honeymoon but were left dissatisfied.
Review 39:The view and the food.
Review 40:We enjoyed the views from the bar and restaurant. As well there are a lot of walking trails close to the hotel. A short drive along Long Beach to Tofino. And we had spectacular weather to view the beaches and ocean.
Review 41:Expensive if you want a view room. Dining room has wonderful views but the food preparation by the kitchen is very, very slow. There are other places to eat in Ucluelet that are better but they do not have views.
Review 42:Good views and kitchenette was wonderful.
Review 43:The resort was great. However, despite an extensive booking history with booking.com and plenty of lead time we were disappointed to find that we were at the bottom of the list for decent room locations - the most distant room from the lobby, separate building back in the trees (at an oceanfront resort). We would have thought booking.com had more stroke with resorts of this calibre. Apparently not. Our disappointing room location put a damper on our stay at this hotel.
Review 44:The resort and the setting are fantastic.
Review 45:Unable to get late check out after noon, which was when our race ended. They were accommodating in letting us use the locker rooms to shower after our race, however.
Review 46:Beautiful location and excellent room. Very clean.
Review 47:We knew that check in was not till 4pm but we arrived at the resort at 1:45pm to see if our room was ready. We waited till 4:15pm for our keys. The fireplace and heated floors in the bathroom did not work. Everything else was great!
Review 48:We think that the location and setting is tough to beat. It was lovely to walk out our door and be on our own quiet beach with the waves crashing in. The room was luxurious and well equipt. Staff was very friendly.
Review 49:The views were stunning and their location on the Wild Pacific Trail is amazing. You have the beauty of nature at your doorstep, yet one of the best restaurants in the area available to you. This resort was the highlight of our trip to Vancouver Island.
Review 50:The only thing we weren't a fan of was the blinds in the room they are see through, so you don't get much privacy from your neighbours if they're on the balcony. Also if your planning to cook you might want to bring a good knife, because only a pairing knife is provided in the kitchen.
Review 51:Our stay was amazing. The room (studio trail) was very nice and spacious for a couple. The room was clean, had luxurious touches and had a view of the ocean. We loved being so close to the ocean and to the grocery store.
Review 52:The suites were incredible, the staff friendly & helpful OMG the food!! The view, wow!! We had an eagle over looking our suite we felt so safe!!
Review 53:Nothing. To bad it is such a long windy road to get there. But worth it when you get there.
Review 54:We all just loved the location, so wild and beautiful. The suites were just great and very big with all needs catered for.
Review 55:The restaurant was overpriced, much better food for your money in town
Review 56:We stayed in the one bedroom suite, the suite was perfect , there is an ocean view from every room, even in the bathtub!!! The room was super clean and comfortable. The wild pacific trail is on the property and is a MUST WALK
Review 57:Bed was a bit hard for my liking
Review 58:It provided the peace and tranquility I was looking for in a beautiful setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Would recommend a spa treatment as well.
Review 59:Room was excellent, the bar and restaurant facilities were very good. The resort is located directly on the Wild Pacific Coastal Path which made it very easy to access without having to take the car out. Excellent location for touring Long Beach and Tofino.
Review 60:Got locked out of our room, arrived back one day and staff were still cleaning room 5pm, light burned out in shower and soap scum in corners, dirty patio glass obscuring what little view of the ocean, couldn't get dishwasher to work. I assumed that everything was interconnected - covered walk way to main hotel, plenty of light at night. If it were raining crazy, as it does there, you'd get soaked if you wanted to eat at the restaurant and wait til your eyes adjusted to the dark as the parking lot lights don't illuminate a lot of area.
Review 61:Kitchenette, soaker tub, shower, Decent tv, fireplace. The lounge .
Review 62:Fetch failed to meet expectations. Beautiful restaurant and good staff but food was not good. There are no other restaurants around open in winter.
Review 63:Great location and spacious rooms.
Review 64:We are vegetarians and found their menu to be a bit weak in options in both restaurants, however the portobello mushroom burger was great in the lounge.
Review 65:We liked their enforced policy about no smoking on the property. It made for an enjoyable environment. We paid a little extra when we got there to get an oceanfront studio. It was well worth it. They loved our dog.
Review 66:it is pricey. it is worth every penny for a special occasion.
Review 67:this hotel had everything we could imagine: ocean view from our suite, a fully equipped kitchen, the shower stall was the size of a big elevator - very comfortable. they have hot tubs overlooking the ocean - great experience. the staff was courteous and responsive to our requests.
Review 68:Our bed was like sleeping on the hard sand beach. Our pillows were the same. Very poor sleeps for 3 nights.
Review 69:We were very pleased with all the facilities.
Review 70:Lack of air conditioning
Review 71:Everything, the hotel was fantastic. We stayed for two nights in a Queen Bed Suite which consisted of kitchen, sitting area and separate bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom was luxurious with separate roll top bath and huge shower. We only ate in the bar but the food in there was good and staff very attentive. Lovely trail walks right from hotel car park. This was the best hotel we stayed in on this trip and only wished we had stayed longer. Would thoroughly recommend
Review 72:the float lounge seemed under staffed, quite a wait for a table ,staff very friendly
Review 73:very spacious rooms, comfy beds loved the hot tub, well equipped kitchen
Review 74:The front Desk employee who checked us. When we first arrived Julie checked us inn. Our rooms were not ready no problem she said all we had to do go to the front desk and everything would be done and pick up our keys for rooms on the second floor ocean view. When we checked in the girl at the front desk was very efficious demanded our credit cards again when we told her that Julie had checked us in she checked the drawer pulled out our info with the cards then changed our rooms to the 3 rd floor overlooking the woods! She had a real attitude problem. Did not get her name but she was a heavy set person. We did complain to the night manager who appologized and payed for a round of drinks for us at the bar. Julie was excellent it was almost like the second girl was undoing what Julie did out of spite!
Review 75:The location the staff with the exception of one person the room the bar the food everything was excellent.
Review 76:Service in restaurant was slow. Not really a problem at dinner, as we had a evening, but waited 53 minutes for our breakfast the following morning.
Review 77:Room - fantastic. We were expecting a 1 bed sea view room with sofa bed. We got a 1 bedroom suite with large balcony and breathtaking views. The room had separate living room and fully equipped kitchen and dining area. Outstanding bed with luxury bed high thread count linens. Fantastic bathroom with rainfall shower, and a view from the bathtub! Wild Pacific trail ran from back door of hotel..well worth the walk. Dined in restaurant..excellent food. Complimentary bicycles a nice touch.
Review 78:Way over priced for what you got, room looked tired, scratched furniture, pillows were bad. Balconys were not private!
Review 79:The bathroom was amazing, loved the shower.
Review 80:Food in general was poor. Restaurant was overpriced and food was really not good. I had to send mine back. Service was good, just the food itself was bland and undervalued. A surprise given the resort's ratings
Review 81:Scenery, spa, friendly & helpful staff
Review 82:Would have liked a slightly larger kitchen hob and more equipment in the kitchen. We like to self-cater when on holiday but accept that for most vacationers this is a chore and so the equipment in the kitchenette would be adequate for the majority - just not for us.
Review 83:Pretty much everything was excellent.
Review 84:The refrigerators were turned off in both units and none of us noticed until the morning so some things had to be tossed.
Review 85:it was fabulous to walk out the door and onto the trail. Beautiful scenery and well appointed rooms. The staff was very helpful .
Review 86:The restaurant menu is not the best. Service is good but food could improve.
Review 87:Location and views are great. Very comfortable.
Review 88:vacuum inside the closets
Review 89:The room, the people, the location and the event
Review 90:Some mishaps from the kitchen staff but food was great and well priced
Review 91:Beautiful location.
Review 92:Not being told we did not have ocean front room.
Review 93:Location
Review 94:The curtains could be darker so sunlight doesn't come in as much
Review 95:That pet people don't have ocean view.
Review 96:The location of the resort and staff.
Review 97:Athens Resort and Restaruant were excellent, the staff was helpful and very friendly
