Reviews for Hotel Oberland

Review 1:I did not have a bad experience and the hotel has good lodgings. I expected better accommodations for the price however.

Review 2:The location is great for access to the mountains and sights. I was surprised of the many conveniences considering the location. Grocery store, bank, gas station, laundry room, etc. The scenery from the hotel location was also beautiful. Very nice breakfast setup. It was easy to notice the hotel was the best place to dine in the evening. This hotel was full and suggested reservations where the other hotels and restaurants were nearly empty.

Review 3:The road from hotel to train station is uphill. Buses are infrequent. So though the hotel is at 5min walk from the station, it's trouble to pull your luggage. There isn't any lift in this small hotel so that's additional trouble. No coffee-maker in the room. The rooms weren't exactly quiet. We could hear people walking on higher floor.

Review 4:Courteous staff (which probably comprises the owners). We were planning to leave the hotel early (before start of breakfast). I appreciate very much that we were offered packed breakfast. Ultimately, we did have our breakfast at the hotel when the service started. And it was good. Overall cleanliness of the hotel was also good. Lauterbrunnen is a small cute place and you can find other restaurants & grocery stores nearby.

Review 5:Welcoming and gorgeous little hotel, with very friendly, helpful staff in reception and the restaurants. Easy parking in front of the hotel too. Our room had a great view over the valley, with a balcony which had 2 chairs and a small table to sit and enjoy the view. The restaurant proved to be excellent - we had a lovely dinner (mine was a seriously good venison stew with delicious red cabbage, and my husband had the local sausage and rosti ......so tasty he was reluctant to share a bite!), and we thought it was all well priced. Next morning the breakfast was varied and very fresh with a really good selection of breads, cereals, salads, cold meats, fresh fruit, eggs, juices etc.

Review 6:Minor niggle - I wish there was a coffee/tea making facility in the room

Review 7:The staff including the owners, Marc and Ursula were really helpful. Ursula went through a number of options on what I could do in Lauterbrunnen and the surrounding areas. Having a restaurant on site was also very convenient and good food too!

Review 8:The very small ensuite shower

Review 9:The staff are very friendly and made great suggestions about activities and sightseeing. The breakfast and meals served in the restaurant are excellent

Review 10:Nothing - everything was terrific

Review 11:The location was second to none. And Beverley at the front desk was an absolute delight!!!! The restaurant is the best in town.

Review 12:Bathroom was a pre-fabricated plastic with no room. Decor was old andnot the standard for 200 frank a night. Restaurant was very basicdishes, beer was good. No elevator

Review 13:Close to train station

Review 14:Not applicable.

Review 15:Staff friendliness and willingness to help. Staff knowledge of surrounding areas. Excellent restaurant. Central location near station.

Review 16:There was nothing I didn't like about this place.

Review 17:The location and the price were great, plus having a balcony with a wonderful view was a bonus. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is beautiful!

Review 18:lack of an elevator and a hard bed.

Review 19:Lauterbrunnen is one of the most beautiful places in the world. All efforts should be directed to preserving Its unique character (to restrain commercialization and honor the kindness of its people.

Review 20:No complaints

Review 21:The host was wonderful about making suggestions for activities. The food was fantastic. Dinner was reasonably priced. Beds very comfortable. We will return

Review 22:The room, especially the bathroom, is a little small, but still very comfortable.

Review 23:The staff was very friendly and gave valuable advice. The restaurant also served superb dinner.

Review 24:Spacious room with views all over, friendly staff, personalised service, fantastic quality food for breakfast and very delicious meals at the restaurant, very homey and cosy--lots of beautiful paintings on the wall, perfect location. We loved it and we would highly recommended both the hotel and the restaurant! Thank you for a memorable stay at Lauterbrunnen!

Review 25:No skiing in Lauterbrunnen - travel to Wengen, Murren or higher is required.

Review 26:Beverley and Ursula were extremely friendly, informative and helpful in booking activities. Restaurant offered excellent food. Hotel was quiet and had a nice, homely atmosphere.

Review 27:No elevator, not fun if you have a heavy suitcase. Ski room is very basic, basically a shed next to the building. Staff not overly welcoming.

Review 28:Location is good, close to train station. Decent breakfast in included.

Review 29:No complaints. No shortcomings

Review 30:Welcoming. Very friendly. Comfortable room. Good restaurant. Very convenient for choice between skiing in Wengen or Murren.

Review 31:Room was small especially bathroom. Furniture a bit dated but included new carpet. Sink being in the room caused problems with water splashing on my laptop being at a desk next to it. Restaurant meals are expensive but it is Switzerland!

Review 32:Great location. Comfortable stay and friendly staff. Good variety of breakfast. Close to connections to Murren. Free parking available in front.

Review 33:Adorable Swiss hotel. Lots of character and close to the train station. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Restaurant was also very nice and convenient.

Review 34:The rooms were comfortable but dated. Needs a refurbish.

Review 35:The staff were very helpful and informative. Well located near the station, restaurants and walks. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 36:Be aware there is no elevator.

Review 37:Beautiful location and staff were very helpful in figuring out what activities to do while we stayed. The hotel restaurant was wonderful for lunch and dinner and the breakfast buffet had lots of cheeses, pastries, cereal, fruit, yogurt, and juices. We loved our stay with 3 adults, a toddler and 2 babies.

Review 38:There was no elevator or porter. We were unfortunate to have many heavy luggages. It was good that we can leave some heavy luggage at the reception area.

Review 39:The location was excellent. Walking distance to the train station leading to Lucerne as well as to Jungfraujock and Schiltorne. The staff are very helpful and patient to answer questions about visiting the mountains and appropriate type of rail passes.

Review 40:The staff was consistently treated us in a way that did not make us feelappreciated or even welcome. We consistently were made to feel that wewere inconveniencing them. The rooms are quite bare for 200 chf. I willnot go back here.

Review 41:The location and view are superb.

Review 42:Can't think of anything negative!

Review 43:One of the owners checked us in and showed us around. The hotel's room and overall theme was great--not hotel-ly at all but just nicely Swiss. Everyone we came across spoke English well. We actually went back to their restaurant a second night because it was so good. The owner was also helpful in advising us on activities. Great place to stay and we look forward to coming back.

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:Enjoying

Review 54:None.

Review 55:Warmth of the hosts and the wonderful dreamy view

Review 56:Wife happy. All good.

Review 57:Comfortable, convenient to attractions, friendly staff.

Review 58:NO LIFT

Review 59:Location, comfort, cleanliness

Review 60:Location was perfect

Review 61:Free parking, free wi-fi, great scenery from windows and balcony, great location among cafes and beautiful walking paths. Nice breakfast.

Review 62:Very nice and hospitable place....

Review 63:The staff were both well informed and very helpful.

Review 64:Wonderful location but expensive because of very strong swiss frank

Review 65:The staff was so friendly and helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean. I give the Hotel Oberland my highest recommendation.

Review 66:The restaurant in the hotel is the best in town. Bar none!

Review 67:Expensive.

Review 68:Balcony, restaurant, staff, location, washcloths.

Review 69:Helpful staff.

Review 70:Location, excellent restaurant, friendly staff

Review 71:no inter phone

Review 72:staff are kinds and good on english

Review 73:We loved the view of the mountains from our balcony. The breakfast was terrific. On Easter Sunday they sprinkled chocolate eggs and bunnies at our table. Very nice, casual atmosphere.

Review 74:The location is great. This town is perfect for traveller that afraid of noisy like Interlaken. The hotel stuff are sooo friendly and helpful ever. Rooms with mountain view and waterfall view are just awesome! I wouldn't recommend anywhere but here to my friends.

Review 75:The room was spacious with all we needed included. The views from both windows were amazing! The breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and the staff were friendly and very helpful with their advice on the area. We ate at the restaurant several times as the menu was varied and the staff served us well.

Review 76:• tea and coffee facilities were available in a communal sitting room but would be nice to have in your own room. • no minibar/fridge means you can't purchase things from the supermarket that require refrigeration

Review 77:We had a lovely stay for 5 nights in January 2014. • room very comfortable and clean • staff were extremely helpful! For example called to book a paragliding tour for us and while we were out for the day the lady went through and planned our train journey to Grindelwald for us. • having breakfast is a big plus in Switzerland as things are generally very expensive. Breakfast was always great; nothing flashy but good fresh home style breakfast. • Lauterbrunnen is a good base for exploring the surrounding areas. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend!

Review 78:Lack of a lift would make it difficult for anyone with a disability

Review 79:Despite the fact that there wasn't a lift, the young kitchen hand took our very heavy suitcases up to our room. The staff also took our luggage to the station for us (it was only a short distance, but the footpath was wet and slippery on that morning). The room was excellent and well appointed. Having a restaurant on site that served excellent food was a great advantage. They also provided wireless and internet access and were able to print out our rail tickets. The staff and proprietress were very helpful and attentive. We really felt welcome and could not have been better looked after.

Review 80:We felt like we were treated like family. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we drove away, it was a wonderful stay. We will definitely be coming back!!

Review 81:We luggages pushing up to the hot fm the train was that nice. Thankfully, we only need to do it twice and carrying up and down the stairs.

Review 82:From our balcony we could see the waterfall. We enjoyed the simple breakfast. Our 6yo was served with a pot of hot choc. She was thrilled :)

Review 83:This is not negative opinion. But I wish I taste the foods in the restaurant! I heard the restaurant was good in that area. But this was the misfortune for me that it was closed just right that evening :(

Review 84:We stayed a rooom for 2 adults and 2 children on the back side viewed of the Staubbach falls . The room was large enough, tidy, clean and has wooden stuff. Breakfast was fine (egg, chese, croissant, delicious bread, jams, fruits, milk, tea, hot chocolate, coffee, ). Free wi-fi. The owner was nice. The valley is really amazing and calm: waterfalls, campings, paragliding.... and the places Jungfraujoch, Interlaken, Trummelbach Falls, Schilthorn....

Review 85:The breakfast was skimpy. The breakfast room was old and tired. There were no tissues in our room. The room was tired and the photos on the web are deceiving. The bathroom was sub standard. It needed a good scrubbing and bleach for the porcelain. I could touch the ceiling and I am 5' 3" tall. There is no lift.

Review 86:The staff was very accommodating and spoke English. The restaurant was nice and served good food. The bed linens were nice and the bed was quite comfortable.

Review 87:Wifi connection not optimal.

Review 88:Hosts are super-friendly and attentive; helpful with advising on hikes, trails, train/gondola options. Dinner menu is best in area (every table always full every nite) and staff very courteous. Excellent breakfast selection.

Review 89:We visited on very warm days in July. The only bed covering provided was a very thick down comforter....not even a top sheet, so there wasn't enough flexibility to adjust to the warm temperatures. Also, more pillows would have been nice.

Review 90:The views were unbeatable. The staff gave wonderful advice about excursions.

Review 91:I could not give this a better review! This hotel is fantastic, it isrun by an Australian couple. The hotel is run very well and all thestaff go out of their way to help. The restaurant is the best in town. The list of things go on. I would recommend this to everyone

Review 92:I would prefer for a bigger bathroom and the new roll of toilet paper be stored else where considering the size of the bathroom.

Review 93:the location, food, staffs and view were excellent!

Review 94:Owners Mark and Ursula made you feel like family. The restaurant was one of the best in town because they made reservations for each guest to ensure seats were available.

Review 95:Leaving!

Review 96:The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, the shower water pressure and hot water were perfect, the views were incredible. We ate in the restaurant several meals--it was excellent. The complimentary breakfast was well-rounded with lots of fresh choices and plenty of food. In short, we love this hotel and will come back if/when we have a chance.

Review 97:We had a room at the front with views and a balcony which is what we were after. Mark and Ursula will great hosts. Very close to the railway station. Bathroom was a little bit small and pokey but manageable .

Review 98:It was very hot in the bedrooms but village so peaceful at night openingthe window made for a good nights sleep.

Review 99:We enjoyed the welcome, the beautifully cooked evening meals, includinga lovely crocodile Thai soup! Delicious. It was part of some Australianspecials. There were also many Swiss dishes on the menu. The breakfastbuffet was good with perfectly cooked boiled eggs. The location wasperfect for train to Wengen or to drive to other places. Ursula was veryattentive as we're all her staff. The bedrooms were good and thebeds extremely comfortable. Very clean. We will return in the spring.

Review 100:Hotel Oberland was everything we had expected and more...Our skiing holiday in Lauterbrunnen was a highlight of our World trip due to the warm and friendly environment Mark and Ursula provided whilst staying at their Hotel! I highly recommend this hotel for its good value, close to Rail, ski hire and Location, Location!!!

Review 101:My family enjoyed our stay at Hotel Oberland very much. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The balcony had a great view. It was the perfect base for our hiking trip. The breakfast in the morning was very good.

Review 102:The bathroom was small and very dated, it was clean but improving the bathroom would improve our overall opinion from good to excellent.

Review 103:The location which is close to train station and in the middle of town.

Review 104:The room was small with squeaky floor and low ceiling (approx. 2m). Squeaky floor also means you can hear people above your room walking around. The bathroom was also small and dark, and shower booth was even darker. (hardly read the letters on my shampoo bottle) With the tiny sink, I had trouble washing my face. The bed was short in length (approx. 1.8m) with footboard. I am about 1.7m tall, but found it a little tight. So this (single) room is not recommendable for those over 1.8m. (things might be different in other rooms)

Review 105:The hotel was located close to the Lauterbrunnen station and there is a corp on the way which was very convenient.

Review 106:The staff were all friendly. On arrival the lady on reception had allpaperwork prepared and was very helpful with advice on booking trainsfor our trip to the jungfrau. She advised us that we could purchasetickets at the hotel and told us about the best ticket to buy. Therestaurant is very popular and the food and staff were excellent. Youneed to book. The family room we had was large and clean as was thebathroom and the shower was hot with a good pressure. Unusual in mostother places we have visited, An enjoyable stay.

Review 107:It is noisy when someone walks around because the floor is made of wood. When I wanted to sleep, it made me not easy to sleep. I think it is a kind of manner not to walk around when others sleep. (especially after 22:00)

Review 108:The room was clean and wide than I thouhgt. View of the terrace was beautiful. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Neighorhood is important to me and it satisfied me, too. It is near the station, so it will help you to move to other places.

Review 109:A lovely view of the Staubbach falls from our little terrace (and also from the bed). The lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly and helped us get to the Trümmelbachfälle when we first checked in.

Review 110:Lauterbrunnen is a fabulous valley setting within the Swiss Alps withview of the massive Jongfrau, Eiger and other mountains. Within thissmall village is the Hotel Oberland, centrally located, top ranked andwith the towns best restaurant (try the Swiss Rosti and Fondueseparately for two dinners) looking over the Wengen upper valley skivillage. I had a wonderful 3 day stay with my 22 year old son, who hadbeen backpacking across Europe and needed some parent-paidaccommodation, food, beer and outdoor activities including paraglidingoff a cliff, bungee jumping off a cable car, and sky-diving off ahelicopter. Make sure you take a 20 minute walking/cable/train trip toMurren on the sunny days. Loved the place and will definitely be back.

Review 111:Liked just about everything about the Hotel Oberland. Staff/service was excellent. Location was very good- easy walk to train station and great central location to all the sites. Food was absolutely great. The owners were engaging, friendly, and helpful. Would absolutely recommend this hotel.

Review 112:The first floor balcony was not partitioned and so there was no privacy either on the balcony or in the bedroom. The windows needed to remain shut for both security and privacy.

Review 113:The location. The owner (female) was very pleasant, friendly and most helpful.

Review 114:The hotel is old and hot in the room, we have to open the door of the balcony all the time. The bathroom is too small, we have to move aside in order to close the door. The wifi cannot be used in the bed room.

Review 115:Great location, only a few minutes from the train station. Good view, facing the Jungfrau and the waterfall. The staff in the reception and restaurant are very nice, one of them recommended the cheesecake to us, which is one of the best cake that we have taken in Switzerland.

Review 116:The one trouble I had was Wi-fi. Although it was available in the roomsfor free, I had endless trouble trying to get a strong enough signal forit to be worth using. In the end, I did manage to get a good signal, butit took the better part of an hour. No real complaints, though; ifyou're in Lauterbrunnen I sure hope you're spending more time outsidethan working on a computer!

Review 117:Not only was Hotel Oberland surprisingly inexpensive and well-kept(everything was clean, the food was good, etc.), the staff wasabsolutely wonderful. They were all, every one, friendly and remarkablywilling to help an inexperienced solo traveler like me. It was awonderful weekend away, and it was nice to see elderly solo travelers, young families with children, and practically everyone in between allstaying at the same hotel. I made several friends, just over a weekendstay. If ever I return to Lauterbrunnen, I have no doubt it will also bea return to Hotel Oberland.
