Reviews for Hotel La Guaria Inn & Suites
Review 1:Rooms are not clean. Beds are old, not comfortable and bedsheets and blankets were not clean Rooms were extremely noisy and we could not sleep for a minute
Review 2:Perfect location to explore Alajuela city center. Very good coffee for breakfast. Friendly staff. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough for one night.
Review 3:When we arrived, we had been assigned to three rooms, two of which did not have working A/C units. It was the hottest December on record and one of the rooms without A/C was on the third floor. The manager was kind enough to move our group into two suites with A/C after the receptionist told us there were no rooms available. The breakfast was ok, but consisted of lunchmeat, prepackaged sliced cheese, apple and banana, cereals, and bread, along with coffee - no local fruits or cooked items.
Review 4:The location is only a couple blocks from the central park and many convenient restaurants and stores. The staff helped us find a very good souvenir store and were generally congenial.
Review 5:The location was a tad sketchy. We weren't comfortable leaving the hotel at night.
Review 6:Very cute place. The room was a perfect size for us. The staff was incredible helpful and the free shuttle service to the airport was fantastic!
Review 7:The downside of the location, as could be expected, is some street noise, but it died down pretty early and by 9PM the streets were quiet.
Review 8:Location was in downtown Alajuela. Very close to the airport and center of town. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the kids loved the pool.
Review 9:I didn't like the pillows
Review 10:Friendly, helpful staff; plenty of food for breakfast, rooms were clean, parking and shuttle, balcony, proximity to airport, shopping, and restaurants, value.
Review 11:The room was okay but just felt a little uncomfortable overall. Didn't feel super clean and the bed was very uncomfortable. The airport shuttle was an uncomfortable taxi they just foot the bill.
Review 12:The lady at the front desk was super helpful. Close to the airport.
Review 13:Nice and clean place in the center of Alajuela, perfect if you need to take a flight from Santamaría Airport the next day. Transfer to airport is included, as well as breasfast. Great value for money!
Review 14:No complaints
Review 15:excellent customer service. Clean spacious room, nice.pool, good breakfast and coffee (of course), airport.shuttle service included, and customer safety taken seriously. Enjoyable stay. Highly recommend.
Review 16:Cleanliness is an issue. We found head hair on our pillows, shower wasn't super clean, some stains on the towels and on the tablecloths at breakfast. No electric outlets except for one in the shower.
Review 17:Nice rooms. Super close to the airport and they also pay the taxi getting to/from there
Review 18:Fairly close to the airport. Even though we arrived around 3 AM in the morning, hotel management was there to help us. He paid the airport taxi, showed us our room, and gave us the WiFi access code. Breakfast was OK, limited choices but OK.
Review 19:Never bad 2nd time there .Very resonable
Review 20:Basic hotel close to air port .Ten minutes and aprox $6.00 to airport in the a.m.Brian and staff very nice .Close to lovely central plaza and basic shoping and food.
Review 21:Excellent value accommodation! Quite simple but it has every thing you need and it's squeeky clean. The owners are very relaxed and friendly, they even pay for the taxi rises from and back to the airport. In this price range that's amazing!
Review 22:Area that the hotel was located in was kind of "sketchy".
Review 23:Staff was nice and very helpful. They paid for our cab to the airport, didn't tell us this though. Breakfast wasn't bad.
Review 24:Staff was most helpful, I only had the room for enough time to nap before flying. Wake up call, ice, internet, free ride to airport, pool, perfect mini oasis right when I needed it.
Review 25:although the airport is very close (5minutes), ask for a transfer well on time. We had one 2 hours before the flight, but it didn't show (stuck in traffic somewhere). Hotel helped us out (called a regular taxi, which they paid), but we lost half an hour which created unneeded stress.
Review 26:Good value for the money. Very helpful reception with good knowledge of English. Nice little pool, clean rooms.
Review 27:The bed and breakfast was not in the best location. My husband and I was lost by the GPS, but eventually found the place with assistance from a local.
Review 28:Great place to stay for one night before a flight or upon arrival of a late flight. Staff is very nice and facility was very clean.
Review 29:Excellent location if you need a short stay close to the airport. Rooms are decent and pool looked very nice but we didn't use it . Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 30:nothing
Review 31:Clean, friendly with free Wifi. Just right for an overnight and getting on the bus at Alajuela the next morning. They called the taxi for me and it was on time.
Review 32:No fridge
Review 33:Located in short walk from the bus station, good breakfast, free taxi to airport. Very welcoming personal. Nice balcony where you can seat on afternoon.
Review 34:This hotel is an excellent value for the value minded traveler. Therooms and hotel are very clean and secure. The complimentary breakfastis what you would find in any European hotel of equal quality. The staffwas very helpful as well as friendly. Location is very convieant to theairport and free shuttle service is included. I would recommend anyoneon a budget to use this hotel. I almost forgot, there are many localdining opportunities in the surrounding area which are very good.
Review 35:You gotta pay an extra 6 dollars for air conditioning, the beds weren't comfortable at all, and the pillows were very very flat. Overall, for the price it's fair.
Review 36:Good location. Pizza Hut was near, as was Subway and the mall they have, well it's not a mall more like a flea market. The bus central was near.
Review 37:Rooms have everything you need for a night over. We stayed for one night as this was our last stop before leaving Costa Rica. Staff arranged a taxi shuttle for us in the middle of the night to get to the airport. For free.
Review 38:No parking place in hotel . You'll get refund for private parking 2 blocks away
Review 39:Nice place for the value!! Good continental breakfast, nice and helpful staff
Review 40:we only needed one night near the airport so we picked this place which is 5 min away its basic but has a nice outdoor seating you get what you pay for :)
Review 41:Security was a little slack. A person from outside that I did not have an appointment with was told which room was mine and allowed to come and knock on my door. I think that I should have recieved a call first.
Review 42:Stayed just one night and was happy with the room. Staff was nice and helpful, breakfast ok.
Review 43:Had a room with a window on the carpark, close to reception: quite noisy. I could hear the phone ring and people ringing the Bell to come in until early hours of the morning. However I had a different room on another occasion and I didn't have this issue.
Review 44:Close to the airport, free shuttle, good breakfast, nice helpful staff, cheap, lots of shops, banks, markets only a few minutes away
Review 45:This place was very close to the airport and had a free taxi service. The staff were lovely, it was close to restaurants, it had a pool and it was very clean with a good shower. Continental breakfast was self serve with enough to eat.
Review 46:Not the most comfortable bed I've slept in. Still, I slept well. If they confirm a free taxi to the airport, make sure you confirm it with both them and the taxi driver before you get in the car. As the driver expected me to pay but I refused. I think he was just trying to wangle more money!
Review 47:Good location and great for a stop before flying home as it's so close to the airport. Friendly staff.
Review 48:They lied to our face about having the shuttle to the airport and got us a taxi instead. We spent all our colones the night before, so we were stranded. Our room had one window facing the garage. No hot water in the sink faucet, and they claimed it's like this in all their rooms. Their parking accomodates only two cars.
Review 49:The night receptionist was friendly. Breakfast was okay. Close to the airport. Accomodated our need to park the car. The outside pool area is nice. Located close to the central square of Alajuela, seemed like a nice area.
Review 50:Wi-Fi was a bit slow and difficult to connect too.
Review 51:Extremely helpful and friendly staff! Pool was very nice as well and there is a peaceful outdoor area to relax in. Airport shuttle was early too!
Review 52:Booked this hotel at the last minute for because of a flight delay. Outstanding value for the price and last minute booking. Room was utilitarian but clean and the staff was very friendly.
Review 53:Was a bit nervous to go out for dinner after arriving at 10 pm. Went to a place around the corner and hurried back. However, during the day it was bustling with activity and didn't seem dangerous at all. Also, I thought there was a free shuttle but the cab driver ripped me off on the way to the airport (admittedly I didn't ask him to start the Maria because I thought it was paid for already). Too tired to argue so I let it go - so just make sure before you jump in the "shuttle".
Review 54:It was fine for the price I paid.
Review 55:Some one. Knocking on door next to ours - for a long time - not hotels fault.
Review 56:Well located for the airport Great little pool for the 5 year old. Free taxi to airport, Nice beauty shop near buy for cheap manicure and keratin blow dry
Review 57:Unhealthy processed foods, with flies and ants around. Kraft singles cheese, frosted flakes, fruity pebbles, sugary dry bread, brown bananas. But it was a great place for airport!!!
Review 58:Spacious Room, pool, location...
Review 59:The staff was very friendly and helpful. My first room had a problem with the temperature in the shower. The staff upgraded the room to a suite for the remainder of the stay.
Review 60:The bed had about 20 tiny light brown mites crawling on the sheets and pillow and there were three long black coarse hairs in the bed before I even got in (I am blonde). The two pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. The sheets didn't appear to be newly changed. I sprayed the mites myself. The man on the desk charged me an extra $5 even though my confirmation email had the total as less (and included taxes). He told me it was for taxes and I just paid it even though I knew he was ripping me off.
Review 61:Prompt shuttle service, close enough to airport.
Review 62:Great location, very close to center of Alajuela and short taxi ride away from the airport. Hotel arranges and pays that taxi fee. Our room was inside the building and very quiet during the night.
Review 63:The staff was really great and the location was only about 5-7 minutes walk from most of the bus stations. The room was really clean and they had great hot showers.
Review 64:The area is pretty noisy, because the buses go right by the hotel, and there are a lot of motorcycles. However, with the fan or A/C or, it provided enough white noise at night to sleep well. Room 104 doesn't have a window and is pretty small, compared with room 307, which has a separate seating area and a balcony.
Review 65:Staff at the front desk were helpful with taxis and other things. There's not much to do in Alajuela, but it's close to the airport and still gives you a feeling about urban life in Costa Rica. Lots of services like ATMs or banks, pharmacies, markets, etc. The sodas there are pretty cheap: we had a pork chop dish for about 5$.
Review 66:I left a bag of makeup and toiletries in the bath room and when I called twice the next day they rudely said it wasn't there. Basically the staff decided to steal it. Disappointing.
Review 67:Easy quick stay before near airport. Hotel is clean and has hot water. We had no complaints during our stay.
Review 68:Kinda dirty... A few roaches here and there... And the bed was uncomfortable.
Review 69:Loved Alujuela, the hotel was very close to everything in the town and it was very secure. Nice bilingual staff and the wifi had a good signal, even in our room.
Review 70:It's continental breakfast, don't expect too much. Definitely worth the price!
Review 71:Clean hotel about ten mins from SJO airport. Extremely friendly staff. Taxi/shuttle provided to airport.
Review 72:Breakfast was buffet style and consisted of plain white bread, cereal, Bologna, cheese that came individually wrapped slices (ew), cereal, coffee, and orange juice that tasted like tang. There are teeny tiny ants and flies in the bathroom. They also have a printer you can use for c250 but the front desk said they were out of paper.
Review 73:Good value, friendly service.
Review 74:Towels and sheets weren't great, but we're definitely manageable. Bed not very comfortable, but I haven't stayed in a non-name brand there that was. Also was noisy. Every place I stayed in San jose was, I think its just something you have to deal with. Older thinner walls mixed with a busy city isn't a great combo. Toiletries just mean bar soap, I use my own so it didn't matter. All the "negatives" were not anything I really disliked and I really couldn't complain with the price, just giving a heads up. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 75:Great location, they pay for transport to and from airport which is about $12. They just reimbursed the taxi. The taxi will still try to collect your money, just don't let them cheat you! About a 3-5 min drive from airport. Staff was awesome. They were friendly and helpful! Pool looked cute and clean, didn't actually get in. Wifi worked in every part of building I was in and worked pretty well. TV had cable, so 4 English channels. ABC, CNN, CBS, and I think HBO Were all English. Room and bedroom were very clean. Didn't spot any dirt, lint fuzzier, or stray hairs anywhere! Super fantastic water pressure and temperature in shower (got way hotter than most).
Review 76:WiFi wasn't working on third floor of hotel; no elevator - had to carry luggage up 2 flights of stairs.
Review 77:Great price at $48 US; Free ride to airport in morning; clean room with air conditioning, balcony, soap, towels and tv; free WiFi; staff at front desk friendly and helpful; complimentary breakfast, swimming pool in hotel; many restaurants in walking distance; interesting nieghbourhood to explore with beautiful old church, nice park, shopping;
Review 78:We were told by staff that our cab fare was paid by the hotel to the airport Upon arriving at the airport the cab driver said he was not paid and we owed $8
Review 79:Bed was so so. Includd breakfast could have used a bit more choices but its a contiental breakfast and for the total cost of the stay, i wont complain about that..
Review 80:Deco was authentic with charm. Free wifi worked great, even on the 3rd floor. Proximity to aitport was perfect for our one night layover. Coffee was good and strong.
Review 81:Alajuela really is not nice, we mamaged to visit Caffe Britt in Hereida, nevertheless it won't fit all...
Review 82:Free shuttel soon morning really helpful.
Review 83:The room on the corner of 2 very busy streets was incredibly noisy and had no air conditioning. In the end we had to close the windows because of the traffic noise. I wouldn't go there again due to the noise.
Review 84:The staff was pleasant and helpful and the hotel clean. We enjoyed the pool & it was lovely to have an airport shuttle.
Review 85:It was very difficult to locate and needs better signage on both sides. Breakfast was lousy and remember to tell the cab driver the fare is covered by the hotel (to the airport).
Review 86:Location to airport and restaurants and shopping. Staff was so helpful. Computer to print boarding pass. Next time in Costa Richard we would definitely stay here again.
Review 87:We felt the breakfast was a bit lacking in variety. The "typical" Costa Rican breakfast of eggs, rice & beans would have been welcome by us as would have fruit in addition to the bananas.
Review 88:The pool and area was nice. We had a table where we could place a suitcase and a wardrobe with shelves where we could put our other suitcase, backpacks and hang clothes. Coffee at breakfast was rich, strong and delicious.
Review 89:Traffic can be a little loud if you are a light sleeper. Bring earplugs :-) I'm vegan so tea, toast & banana were breakfast, but there is a great place to get juice drinks a block away!
Review 90:The pool area is a nice oasis in the middle of town! Dinner was easy to find nearby & there was a place to park the rental car. Staff was great!
Review 91:we got a quite noisy room facing the main road. Maybe try to reuest the ones facing the pool.
Review 92:very close to the airport, they even paid for our cab. check-in was super easy and fast.
Review 93:Hotel was a challenge to find by car, due to all the one way streets - a GPS would be helpful if you are driving!
Review 94:The Inn staff were exceptionally helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations and went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable.
Review 95:Quite noisy as the street is just outside.Poor breakfast. Not really a very comfortable place, but good for one night before or after flight.
Review 96:Good value for money, very nice and communicative reception lady.
Review 97:Small room and bathroom was old. Hot Water intermittent. Road Noise. Can hear every word of neighbors if talking on balcony. You get what you pay for, and we should have paid a little more to stay at a better property.
Review 98:Staff was friendly. Balcony Close to restaruants
Review 99:The beds are not confortable, the bathroom was so not clean that we had to change rooms, it is noisy and really pretty basic!
Review 100:Close to the airport and pick up and drop off arranged by the Hotel. Decent breakfast and friendly staff
Review 101:Noisy and rather "ugly" surroundings, but the hotel is still perfect for an overnight before flying.
Review 102:Friendly and efficient staff. Great WiFi. Close to Airport. Not sure if Airport transfer was included? We ended up asking the arranged taxi driver and he wanted money, even though he waved us goodbye at first. Stupid tourists ;)
Review 103:You have to understand that in Costa Rica, not many places are sound proof. You might hear the occasional beep!, woof! or couple making love. It did not bother me but I wanted to point it out to you softies who never should've booked for this great country!
Review 104:I booked through booking.com the day before. It was 8$ taxista from the SJO airport. Clerk had a cold cerveza waiting for me and directed me towards a nice little restaurant nearby.
Review 105:The young man behind the front desk. Couldn't get his head away from the tv or his ph to take care of business. Breakfast needs. To mix it up some not the same same every am.
Review 106:Location
Review 107:sub-par lighting for reading. All tv programs, but for two, were spoken in Spanish with no english sub titles. But the two that were in English had Spanish sub titles
Review 108:most of the facility.
Review 109:The noise (near a road). For the price, it's acceptable.
Review 110:The price for the location. It's near the airport (10 min, and 7-8$ in taxi). Not much around, but for go in or out of airport, it's perfect.
Review 111:The first room (303) I occupied had lumpy mattresses, but the second one had a balcony, AC, good beds and was comfortable. Breakfast a bit meager: eggs would be nice, some protein, not just carbohydrates, even if this means paying for it.
Review 112:The pool area, very quiet to lounge in. The staff was very helpful, friendly. The entire hotel was clean, and central location. Free taxi transport from and to airport for guests staying more than a couple of days is appreciated.
Review 113:Pillows were lumpy but they gave us additional ones. Could use an update in the bathroom.
Review 114:We stayed here the last night of our trip as we had a very early flight. Location was Awesome, 5 minute cab ride to the airport (free- included) and lots of nice areas to walk about. And resturants near by. owners were very nice.
Review 115:Friendly staff, close to just about everything Alajuela has to offer, airport shuttle is an awesome perk. Pool looked nice and well tended, though I didn't try it out. Overall really nice place.
Review 116:poor, slow wifi breakfast could be improved with more fresh fruit
Review 117:very friendly and helpful staff owners are extremely nice and share their private parking security is great
Review 118:Little bugs that come quick with any drink or wrapper in the room! Otherwise, love this place!!
Review 119:Jose welcomed us, helped us revamp our trip plan a bit to maximize our time & interests, provided free map, and lots of advise:) Great secure clean family business! Nice pool, rooms, and little town!
Review 120:There was a bad smell coming out of the restroom, wasn't very pleasant, like sewage odor.
Review 121:I really liked the staff personnel, was very delightful and attentive, in specific the front desk.
Review 122:The wifi connection could have been better. And the rooms need an upgrade.
Review 123:We were leaving the next morning for the airport at 4:00am. The hotel arranged free shuttle. We didn't get breakfast because it was too early. It was low season and the price was fine. Clean as far as I could see.
Review 124:A lot of noise during the night from other travelers and street traffic. Also, breakfast was not very much. They only served bread, juice, and coffee for their "buffet".
Review 125:Very friendly staff and perfect location in Alajuela.
Review 126:The staff was very friendly, the location was central to everything, food, drinks, transportation, and closeness to airport. Must try the Peruvian restaurant nearby.
Review 127:Breakfast and coffee were not, very good
Review 128:Good location and comfortable
Review 129:Breakfast is basic
Review 130:Location next to the airport, free airport taxi
