Reviews for Xandari Resort & Spa

Review 1:Could have better lighting in rooms. The Wi-Fi was very poor and should be upgraded for a hotel that is otherwise very good.

Review 2:Lovely pools for swimming. Great food and beautiful views.

Review 3:We flew to Costa Rica from the UK via LA and Guatemala - a long travel so we booked Xandari as a treat on first arriving in CR. And what a treat! It's a beautiful resort, carefully and thoughtfully designed, and the perfect place to relax for a day or two.Because we arrived tired and with nasty colds we didn't leave Xandari at all (we have six weeks in CR so will see plenty of the real thing). Our room was so beautiful that it was easy to spend long periods inside it, and the gardens, pools, waterfalls and grounds provided plenty to see during our three days there. The artwork around the resort is bright and eye catching (created by one of the former owners) and the colours they've chosen for the buildings are cheerful and fun.A hummingbird came to a flower just beside our balcony on our first morning, and there were lots of other birds in the trees outside us and flying past our balcony. The resort has a list for serious twitchers, and a folder with photos and descriptions of birds you may see while staying. The meals in their restaurant, which overlooks the valley below, were delicious, and the service both there and elsewhere around the property was superb. At the last minute we asked for an airport pickup, and they sent William for us who spoke such good English and was a nice first contact with Costa Rica. They also had our room ready for us (a huge relief after the long journey), even though we arrived at 10am and check in time is 2.In the fridge in our room were water, juice, soft drinks and a snack that were free, plus wine and beer you would pay for.The walks around the property are lovely, with the beautiful colourful plantings everywhere. (Suggestion: Some seats so you can sit quietly and watch birds and butterflies would be great though).

Review 4:We loved the Xandari, so glad we stayed two nights. Great location near the airport and we had a day out at Volcan Poas about 40 mins drive. The place is even more beautiful than the pictures show. Grounds were wonderful we were surprised at how quiet and wild the walk to the waterfalls was- well worth it. Staff could not have been more friendly but not imposing. Excellent service. The view from the room balcony and restaurant are worth it alone.

Review 5:Noisy road nearby and noisy neighbours. The breakfast was ok not great . Food here is expensive !

Review 6:Courtesy of staff and the beautiful gardens and trails

Review 7:You would have to be VERY determined to discover anything unpleasant at Xandaria...

Review 8:Glorious architectural interest, and lovely art work installed everywhere. A feast for your eyes in every direction.

Review 9:We stayed here on the first day we arrived in San Jose because the hotel is near the airport and it looked gorgeous. In reality, the hotel offers much more than you see in the pictures. The view from our terrace and from the restaurant area was stunning and it was here we saw the best sunset of our holiday. The hike in the hotel grounds was an unexpected pleasure. The trail through the forests and the waterfalls was a great experience that we certainly weren't expecting to find in our hotel grounds. I spent the morning before our departure swimming on my own in one of the many pools in the hotel which was a pure joy. We have a few hours to spend at San Jose airport before our departure and we're planning to go back to Xandari Resort for lunch so we can leave Costa Rica with the best possible memory from our stay.

Review 10:No cons!

Review 11:Can't say enough! Gorgeous property, including 5 waterfalls, views are stunning, villas/ rooms were beautiful, staff was incredible, excellent food, great value. Far exceeded our expectations!

Review 12:This was as close to perfction as I have seen

Review 13:From the room to the views to the idyllic walks in the grounds to the staff and the food, Costa Rica should be very proud to have such an excellent hostelry to point to.

Review 14:The double beds are a bit small for sharing. Breakfast is good, but I wish all of the menu items were included. We had to pay extra to get a breakfast my daughter would eat. It would also be nice if they included transport to the airport. All in all te cost of staying, food and transport was not worth it for us.

Review 15:Beautiful hotel and location. The view is phenomenal. It's very quiet, has wonderful art and is not too far from the airport. The food is good. Expensive by Costa Rica standards, but not outrageous. Pools are pretty. Trails are beautiful.

Review 16:I asked for an upgraded room, I was placed in a room filled with bugs. By the time I decided to check out the man managing the front desk showed me a room that was in MUCH better condition than the "premier" room they placed me in earlier. Also the bathroom shower faces a ground level garden. They should give their guests the option to hang a curtain up for privacy.

Review 17:The location seemed fine, the views were great. I would recommend for couples since there are no TVs in the rooms and it didn't seem to be a very lively location. Its seems like a true R&R place. I had a salad for dinner, it was delicious. Staff was pleasant, flexible and VERY willing to please. I'm very pleased with how I was treated the entire time there.

Review 18:The grounds and the views were spectacular. You can take an eco-hike for a couple of hours right on the hotel grounds and see waterfalls and great flora and fauna. The hotel layout is very artistic and allows for maximum privacy.

Review 19:Didn't have any TV in the room but it was complemented with a big TV in the lobby where you had a wide range of movies to choose from.

Review 20:They have jacuzzi near the pool so you can jump from one to another The design of the rooms is quite unique Very well secure The room had it's own patio, very large with an amassing view over the city, especially in the night. The restaurant serves very nice food

Review 21:We needed a second bed, but the day bed was not too comfortable. My fault for communicating better.

Review 22:We loved the on-property hiking. The grounds were gorgeous and the pools were beautiful.

Review 23:No A/C nor TV, which surprised me given the class of resort. Had to ask for a fan, but at the altitude they are it cools off enough at night, but can't open the doors or bugs fly in. The water pressure of the shower was bit wimpy.

Review 24:Beautiful decorations, great views of San Jose valley and mountains in the distance. Large campus with 3 pools and 4km of trails available going to small waterfalls and along the river. Good coffee and the restaurant was nice and reasonably priced. Breakfast was good, but continental only (you have to pay extra for scrambled or fried eggs).

Review 25:The location is pretty isolated so all the meals were in restaurant. The food was good, but the menu got old and I would have liked to eat out a little more. A cab ride to Alajuela is about $10.

Review 26:Staff if wonderful. I had a wonderful massage at the spa. Villas are awesome. The colors, decor, artwork and views were wonderful. Great bathrooms with huge showers. The towels Xandari uses are the biggest softest I've ever seen. Trails surround, with easy walks to waterfall #5, or more challenging hikes to the other waterfalls. Foliage from all over the world is all labeled and nicely displayed. Very serene. However, you should go to bed early because at 5:30 am the roosters, dogs and birds start a lively chorus, or bring your earplugs.

Review 27:Nothing!

Review 28:Grounds were so beautiful, casitas were very large with beautiful views! Food excellent and healthy! Staff so friendly and accommodating! I will defenitely go back! So happy I found this place and didn't stay at a Hilton or really expensive Peace Lodge.

Review 29:There was an ant problem in my villa and they got into all my bags. Forgot to use my spa coupon so would have been good if they asked if I had one to nudge me - found it when I got back.

Review 30:The artwork, the villa, the food, the verandas, the trails & waterfalls, the lap pools, very pleasant and relaxing environment so close to the main airport. Would definitely go to again.

Review 31:Leaving

Review 32:Everything.... Our room was gorgeous and the view was to die for. We had lunch upon check in and it was delicous, amazing guacamole. Dinner in the evening was fantastic as well as the complimentary breakfast. Loved the pools especially the sunset pool. Was very sad to leave, we stayed at Xandari on the last night of our vacation, was a fantastic way to end the trip.

Review 38:The walking trails were a magical trip through lush rainforest and botanical gardens. The food was wonderful.

Review 39:The lighting in our room was woefully inadequate.

Review 40:The view of the Arenal Volcano from our balcony was breathtaking.
