Reviews for Pillar and Post Inn & Spa

Review 1:Staff are rude and tried to clean the room prior to us checking out by throwing out some of our belongings, despite the fact they went by prior to 10:30 while we were having breakfast. Well before the 11:00 checkout!

Review 2:It was a perfect get away from the city for us. The food at Cannery was outstanding - we ordered salmon and prime rib. Didn't expect it to be that good! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Didn't try the facilities - next time!

Review 3:the only thing there was no comfortable place in the unit to sit and enjoy our room service. the caster s on the chair did not move very well, so its nothing really to complain about

Review 4:the spa

Review 5:I reserved a superior room on your website and thought I was getting a King Bed. I also left my credit card info on your site. When I arrived we received two double beds. The person at the front desk told me that there wasn't any left and that to receive the room that I wanted, I should have phoned directly and not used this site. This room costs $260 a night. I would have thought that we would have received what I asked for.

Review 6:The TV in our room was not that great satilite wound improve by far

Review 7:Loved the dacore like that the outside pool stayed open the food in the restaurant was great

Review 8:It's a little further walk from town - although not unpleasant at all. The food on site was very good - but not the best in town.

Review 9:The hotel, while unassuming in the outside, is quite charming inside. The staff and facilities were lovely. The spa was wonderful - especially the hot spring pool in the sunken grotto. The room was spacious and had all the amenities of a true resort.

Review 10:Staff at the front desk were often dismissive. We had an appointment at their own spa the next morning and it was a struggle to extend our check out time by just an hour.

Review 11:Quiet location with lovely green space surrounding it.

Review 12:Loved the warm welcome on arrival. We were early and room not available. Staff took care of our luggage and when we got back from a stroll our luggage was in our room along with a beautiful rose on our pillow. Great facilities .

Review 13:The Bed wasn't very confortable. There Was a pet just beside our room and the last night the dog bark at 5 o'clock in the morning. We don't appreciate!

Review 14:The hôtel, the flowers, the meals, the employees!

Review 15:rooms were abit dated and needed some redecorating to bring them up to today's standards room was a bit expensive

Review 16:great pools and hot tubs exersize room was good too restaurant was an 8 out of 10 it has the feel of an old English village

Review 17:I reserved 2 rooms online and had my printout of the reservation with me. Hotel had only 1room reserved in my name. Fortunately they had another room available.

Review 18:That extra special touch of a fresh rose in my room at night!

Review 19:We had a lovely dinner in the main dining room. We elected the buffet next morning for breakfast which was a mistake. The food was barely warm and of poor quality. They took the cost of one breakfast off the bill, however.

Review 20:The surroundings are lovely. We asked for a quieter room (we were situated next to the pool) and were given an upgrade to a more secluded area. The staff are wonderful!

Review 21:The Pillar and Post always provides the most amazing atmosphere for wine country. The best getaway- amazing spa and hot springs- and perfect location. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept on!

Review 22:Need a few more sun beds by the pool or better way of managing them.

Review 23:Beautiful setting and lobby area. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable bed and well designed room.

Review 24:The kind and calm manager went above and beyond to find a solution to our families room dilemma which was more comfortable, spacious and wonderful than we had booked originally. This totally made our three day trip most relaxing, comfortable and peaceful for my older mom , my two daughters and I.

Review 25:The room had a musty smell...terrible view of bike rack and cleaning supplies..

Review 26:loved staying in vintage hotel however the room smelled very musty..the staff offered to change rooms but we were unpacked...the staff and service were excellent and good location and Vintage charm..

Review 27:Check-in was a bit chaotic and eventhough we arrived past the checkin time, our room was not ready. For what we paid, I would expect better.

Review 28:I had the best sleep I have had in years - the bed was so comfortable, I had a lot of trouble getting up in the morning - Awesome!!

Review 29:We had a fruit fly infestation. The staff came and took care of it, but they were back the next day. We thought it was a bit pricey.

Review 30:The staff and service were excellent! The shuttle back and forth to town was wonderful! Once we parked the car, we didn't use it again until we were going home.

Review 31:We have stayed at the P&P many times, but had never been stuck in this out-post of a room! Difficult to get to and to get your luggage into. It was at the end of nowhere!

Review 32:This hotel is not 4+ star quality as it advertises and not worth what they charge you. The room was dated looking smelled damp was dirty and dusty. The fireplace I paid extra for in the "deluxe" suite was filthy and did not work. Save your money and stay at a quality hotel with standards and is not gouging you bevause they feel they can.

Review 33:Our room was a long walk to the reception desk, bar and restaurant.

Review 34:We lejoyed staying in the large suite with separate bedroom. Our room was located close to spa facility.

Review 35:The brunch was nice but the service was just ok. We were starving after waiting which was fine...but we didn't get served for about 15 mins...even though she kept saying would be right there as she ran past our table.. Even just coffee would have kept us happy. Otherwise all good.

Review 36:Staff really helpful, loved the shuttle service, rooms roomy and clean.

Review 37:Very small bathroom, considering travelling with a family. More counterspace would be appreciated. Also, when booking travel, I had tried to call front desk a few times and gave up, as repeatedly, noone would answer the phone.

Review 38:Relaxed atmosphere. Comfy beds. Excellent, approachable staff willing to problem solve.

Review 39:I had such a comfortable nights sleep on that bed. The mattress was awesome. My husband was not feeling well with a slight fever, the staff at the bar got me a chicken sandwich and 3 cans of diet ginger ale to take to him and were just so nice about it! I used the pool and that was a very nice temperature. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to use the spa this time around. Next time!

Review 40:The registration system was down so we checked in 4 hours late. The front desk offered us a free drink but the people serving were slow and rude so we just left.

Review 41:Nice place and the hot springs and sauna were a nice bonus.

Review 42:We were put in the smallest room ever. They say it's a queen bed but I don't think that's the case at all. Bed was tiny.

Review 43:Excellent location. Great ammenities.

Review 44:Everything was beautifully presented. The grounds were well-kept with lots of flowers. The rooms were spacious and clean and nicely appointed. The breakfast buffet was excellent and reasonably priced.

Review 45:Lunch in lounge - staff noisy talking and seemingly unaware of lounge guests - long wait for our food and only 3 tables Primary focus on outdoor poolside guests

Review 46:Lovely and quiet ; foyer lounge area beautiful with fire and roses Lots of parking Indoor pool and spa nice vs outdoor which was very busy Easily accessible for walking downtown

Review 47:The bed wasn't that comfortable! A beautiful place like this needs an amazing, luxurious bed and pillows!

Review 48:This hotel was very quaint and inviting. We loved the grounds and our room, very beautiful! The breakfast was also delicious

Review 49:My partner arranged for us to stay there. Where he arranged with the hotel to have a horse drawn carriage ride. Dozen white roses and a bottle of white wine was waiting for us, upon our return; where he got down on his right knee, and proposed. It was a magical event, that began with me saying "Yes".

Review 50:The girl on reception when we checked in wasn't very helpful. She only gave information when prompted and didn't ask if we needed any help with our luggage (we were on the first floor and there are no lifts).

Review 51:The staff in the spa were very helpful and friendly and the spa treatments were amazing! The pool and hot springs were great and lovely to relax in the relaxation room afterwards. We ate in the restaurant once and the food was amazing!

Review 52:We are not ones to complain, but come on, this was supposed to be luxury....something needs to be said....Where do we start, the room we had looked perfect. .it was far from it. There was a layer of dust on the bathroom cabinetry that reminded me of an abandoned home. The bathroom door did not close ...... At all...that's romantic for our honeymoon....very disappointed that this was actually a problem, what kind of room has a bathroom door that doesn't close??? It was warped and we couldn't pull it closed, it was supposed to....but no longer did. We have stayed in hostels that have closing doors! The feather bed didn't fit the bed properly, so my husband slept on a slant at some points through the night, we think it may have been a double feather bed on a queen mattress. AWFUL EXPERIENCE.

Review 53:The place was beautiful, staff amazing. Lobby and facilities are outstanding.

Review 54:We had a large room with a fireplace but it seemed stark and a little tired. Also, I was a little surprised to see the Jacuzzi tub was for one. The chair at the desk was like office furniture and the placement of the furniture was a little off. When we first arrived the patio by the bar was full of dirty dishes. Not very appealing.

Review 55:BREAKFAST!! The food and the atmosphere........................perfect!

Review 56:Our room was clean but seemed to need some up grades especially the bathroom.

Review 57:I loved the atmosphere of the place and all the fresh flowers and the friendly staff. The food was excellent in the dining room and lounge.

Review 58:Hard to connect to wifi and I been using the Internet since it came out and Bbs before. Was able to connect but not the usual way. Sometimes via browser could connect and reset every day.

Review 59:Staff, food, service and accommodations all excellent as per my post on Yelp and all our pics and comments on Facebook. Many of our friends have been before and echoed our comments. Thinking of getting a few together for a visit in the future. Wished I had been before I retired from the Feds as a Regional Consultant/Manger for SouthWestern Ontario as would have tried to get some of the meetings or workshops at your facility. I think we end up at Embassy Suites not as nicer as your facility but that was over 10 years ago. We like at our own 54 acres retreat over looking Rice Lake year round but we truly enjoyed our stay with you.

Review 60:The Inn itself was beautiful. The location, the staff, the amenities were all excellent. It is my favorite property of all the Vintage group locations.

Review 61:Needed some peace and quiet. Spa pool seemed like the place but every time I went it was occupied by children screeching and splashing. Unless weather is bad, I think it's reasonable to have spa pool an adult area

Review 62:Staff

Review 63:The style of the room is quite old and the Hotel should get a slight makeover, the carpets are shabby outside etc..allthough the cleanliness was well kept in bedrooms , CAD 50 per extra Person seemed overated

Review 64:The breakfast was delicious , buffet etc... The pool was also nice friendly staff

Review 65:ordered a drink this time and the barmaid seemed put out when I asked her to fix it. For the price I should be able to get what I pay for without an attitude I was a bit surprised since the staff is usually top notch!

Review 66:Ambience, flowers, spa pool location I always stay here love it!

Review 67:the continental breakfast selection was poor, no muffins or croissants, just raisin cake. The coffee was also very weak.

Review 68:the hotel is very elegant, and the gardens were beautiful. Next time we come there we will bring our bathing suits.

Review 69:Staff attentive and always smiling; nothing was too much trouble both at front desk and dining room. Hotel bakes fabulous gluten free bread for breakfast. A plus for all celiac travellers :) Shuttle provided for every excursion, no driving required..

Review 70:Reception was a bit difficult but we're accommodating at the end. Overall, no complaints. Fantastic experience!

Review 71:Great facilities, delicious food, beautiful common space, pet friendly, Nice room service.

Review 72:The steam room was out of operations one evening and the out door pool was too crowded and no empty chairs for lounging.

Review 73:Loved the steam room and indoor pool!

Review 74:My only complaint was our room was a corner near the ice machine and both the ice machine and room air conditioner were quite noisy.

Review 75:Lovely location, great staff and wonderful restaurant.

Review 76:Leaving! Oh, and we missed Saturday morning breakfast because we decided to sleep in....arrived at 11:05am...but unfortunately, they closed on the dot at 11am. No exceptions.

Review 77:Everything! The cleanliness of our room was superb! Our attendant was Brittany, she paid close attention to detail! Also, the food was excellent and spa services were just what we needed. It rained all day Saturday but we didn't mind staying in one bit!!

Review 78:Bathroom cupboards neeeded dusting.

Review 79:Comfy Beds, beautiful lobby & staff. Rose on beds at Turndown service at night! Clean fresh towels & linens.

Review 80:Got to the lounge at 10:50 P.M. Wife was hungry. Clock had been set forward 10 minutes so they said the kitchen was closed.

Review 81:We had to leave early. Our first grandchild was coming! The manager arranged for a complete refund and helped us on our way.

Review 82:We always love that a stay at The Pillar and Post mirrors the feel of the downtown core. Beautiful, historical, charming, decadent. Staying there feels cozy and warm - like you're home! Only lovelier and tidier!!

Review 83:The power went out our first night between 7pm & 10:30pm and there was no back up generator, so we had no dinner/drinks, nothing to do, and not a single staff member came around to see if people were ok or if they needed flashlights or water or anything. They also refused to compensate for the night. That was a huge downfall.

Review 84:The resort is beautiful to look at and the pool and surrounding area is relaxing and peaceful.

Review 85:Fridge and a/c unit a bit loud. Perhaps could've had some decaf coffee with the coffee maker.

Review 86:Rooms are very clean and comfortable, hotel very attractive on attractive grounds, staff very accomodating. Convenient to the Shaw Festival. Try the spa, very relaxing.

Review 87:The mattress was a little on the soft side. Same with the pillows.

Review 88:Enjoyed the outdoor pool & lounge area. Did not book any massage treatments this time.

Review 89:- Waited over 45 minutes for the shuttle service. This would not have been an issue had they told us that it would be this length of time, but they kept saying 5-10 minutes. If we had known it was going to take 45 minutes we would have walked back to the hotel in 20! -The pool area was very crowded and not relaxing at all! Children screaming and people drinking!

Review 90:Nice room and we were able to check-in early. In a beautiful part of the town-lots of nice homes and streets nearby.

Review 91:We had a broken bed in our room. Would've been nice to change rooms however the hoteL capacity was full. We stayed next to courtyard and could hear drunk obnoxious teenagers at night. Please try to enforce quietness after pool hours.

Review 92:The spa, bath robes and slippers. And the complimentary coffee and tea.

Review 93:The bed was very uncomfortable, lumpy, We were given a different room from the one we booked. Outdoor hot water spa is over rated. There were dirty dishes and laundry along most of the route to our room

Review 94:Staff was very courteous. Request to repair safe was done expeditiously.

Review 95:The only thing that was a kittle drawback was the distance to walk to get to town. Especially for us old folks

Review 96:We were looked after in all aspects of our trip. The pool was fantastic as was our meals. Thank you pillar and post

Review 97:The picture of the room with the booking had a fireplace but the room had no fireplace. Really not as nice as last year. I would look at other places for next year.

Review 98:We had dinner in the resturant and it was just satisfactory. The food was high priced, but the quality and service did not reflect the price. I would not recommend the resturant.

Review 99:The facilities were nice.

Review 100:Our bed was lumpy, the phone was not charged when I needed it and the bathroom was cold. No heat.

Review 101:The facilities offered many options for things to enjoy. The outdoor spring hot tub was a great experience and the ambiance in the lounge was warm and friendly and very cozy.

Review 102:Gentleman at Cannery on New Years Day breakfast informed us we needed a reservation ! This was not mentioned at all at time of arrival . His attitude telling us was downright rude . We recognized the manager from the night before and she looked after us and got us a table . (We noticed the Cannery was far from capacity , actually was only 50% full which was even more puzzling. )

Review 103:There really wasn't anything that I didn't like.

Review 104:It had more amenities than expected. On our arrival, wine and cheese was served in the lobby, completed unexpected! It was wonderful to sit by the fire having wine and cheese and admiring the beautiful setting.

Review 105:The bed in room 255 seems to have a sinking spot in it which made the sleep not as enjoyable. Also was hoping for robes in the room but only got them at the spa.

Review 106:Beautifully decorated and makes you feel cozy as soon as you walk in. Staff are great! We were both able to enjoy the spa lounge and the massages were absolutely wonderful! I also ordered the domestic cheese plate and it was quite enjoyable.

Review 107:My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about our visit, from the cordial hospitality, to the spacious room. . . incredible meal and service, wine tour the following morning. . . not one negative thing to say about our stay, except, of course, that we had to leave as soon as we did!

Review 108:Spiderwebs on the room's wall The frame of the bed was larger than the mattress. The chlorine smell around the hallways on the first floor was overpowering The exposed wires on the pillars of the dinning room

Review 109:Staff Service Excellent

Review 110:The best part is that with a nights stay you get full access to the spa and even if you don't want to pay for a massage you can relax in the hot spring which is excellent in the winter. Also every room is super cozy and nobody would think you're crazy if you lost yourself in your bed for your stay. And get the prime rib at the restaurant!

Review 111:I loved the friendly staff, especially the shuttle drivers. The beds were very comfortable and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, the service was excellent with a reasonable price point. I would definitely return to the Pillar and the Post. I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer.

Review 112:Room was lovely. Bed was very comfortable. Quiet and peaceful surroundings. Spa was relaxing. Enjoyed massages hot tub and pool. Fabulicious dinner was terrific.

Review 113:Our room was fairly basic. We woke up during the night when hotel staff slipped our checkout into under the door.

Review 114:Outdoor pool still open in late October.

Review 115:Slow wait staff in restaurant particularly at breakfast Waited for waitress to make initial contact and then were well into meal before coffee arrived

Review 116:Room decor Welcome at reservation desk Beautiful lobby Well equipped room with fridge and cork screw Carnation and newspaper

Review 117:The relative paucity of items on the menu: no variation. Quality of the food did not always meet expectations.

Review 118:The landscaping, the décor and layout of the lobby, the dining rooms and the bar. Enjoyed the 100 fountain spa and the pool. Shuttle facility was fantastic.

Review 119:The breakfast could have been better and the evening meals were a little overpriced for what they were.

Review 120:It was nice to sit by the pool in the evening and have a drink. The service was excellent.

Review 121:The carpets are very dirty xxx

Review 122:We were attending a wedding , It was a lovely venue Would have liked to spend more time to use facilities Definitely come back again

Review 123:Pricey and poor dinner in the main dining room. One person ordered Chowder for starter and it was cold, and thin not a Chowder at all. I had Roast Beef, too thick, and a very poor dry Yorkshire Pudding and, believe it or not, no mustard when I asked. Considering the cost a rip off. also very pretentious. Very very slow service, though when we arrived the room was not at all full.

Review 124:very nice room well outfitted and very quiet, helpful staff, very nice building and setting. Good amenities, free shuttle bus to theatres, etc, In fact, everything but the Dinner. We did not have Breakfast in the hotel

Review 125:when asked at front desk where the Acquafit was taking place (what pool) they didn't have a clue but meanwhile when asked at spa they were the ones that told us to ask front desk

Review 126:everything about it dinner at the Cannery was amazing

Review 127:Pools were small and crowded-lots of kids. One bed not made up after returning to our room from a day of shopping. Ceilling light fixture extemely dusty. Not close to downtown so had to find/pay for parking.

Review 128:Rooms were spacious. Very comfortable beds.

Review 129:Would be difficult to do every year for a weekend getaway due to high costs. Rooms are older but clean and well-kept, although our room had somewhat of a musty odor to it.

Review 130:Very relaxing atmosphere. Pools and Spa facilities were fantastic. Location to shops within walking distance and shuttle is very convenient.
