Reviews for Prince of Wales

Review 1:Room temperature hard to adjust for comfort. Breakfast should have been included as it is in Europe. Place looked a bit worn.

Review 2:Location is great for being right in town. Historic place.

Review 3:We were assigned a room in the basement next to what I assume was a mechanical room. We could continually smell a hot oil or grease smell. The carpeting in the room was old and worn out looking. When asked if we could have another room, we were told the hotel was full. We honestly felt like "second class citizens"

Review 4:Convenient location Nice common spaces and amenities in hotel

Review 5:the first room we were offered was not acceptable as it was in a back area by the staffroom and looked run down in general.

Review 6:We were re located to a lovely room and the entire staff was always exceptionally accommodating . Lovely place would definitely come back .

Review 7:We loved every minute of our stay! All the little extras kept smiles on our faces the whole time we were there. Between getting a fresh rose every night delivered to our room to the bottle of wine that was in the room with a Birthday card for my husband. The atmosphere of Niagara on the lake is so enchanting and matched the atmosphere of this hotel with so much history charm :)

Review 8:When with one of the staff they were very pleasant and helpful. However, if they were helping someone else their 100% undevided attention was with the client in front of them. On numerous occasions we were ignored completely and had it been a store or restaurant we would have left and gone elsewhere. Even just a hello we'll be with you shortly or let me get someone to help you... It became quite infuriating and in fact would potentially be a reason to not return again.

Review 9:Location, location, location!!!

Review 10:Could have used more bell boys and valet staff as had to wait for car and assistance with baggage.

Review 11:Love the hotel and the relaxing atmoshere. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Would definitely come again!!

Review 12:I have some mobility problems and found it a little difficult to manage the stairs to the unit, but it was worth it when I got upstairs.

Review 13:Love the decor. The staff are all friendly, yet professional. This was a real treat to stay at your hotel. The dinner special, was, SPECIAL.

Review 14:No bad experience but there are a couple of areas that could be restored to their original condition.

Review 15:The town is perhaps the quaintest small town community in Canada! The Hotel is unique, in a way it is opulent and the rooms are nicely finished and comfortable. It has a great history and upholds the British tradition after which it was named.

Review 16:While staff / service was good, I felt it could have been better given the perception they try to give. Overall, a nice stay.

Review 17:Hotel / property is beautiful

Review 18:WiFi only worked on day of arrival and not on departure. Breakfast buffet-pancakes were leathery and price was high.

Review 19:Excellent Queen size room with a King size bed. Downtown location across from a park.Very attentive staff. Free parking. Wonderful restaurant.

Review 20:Not a bad experience, to be sure, and a wonderful treat for my lady friend's birthday, with top Shaw tickets, also a very rare thousand-dollar weekend. For almost $500 a night, perhaps we should be able to take home the bathrobes and slippers...

Review 21:It's a lovely hotel with courteous, attentive staff, excellent food, and large comfortable rooms and beds.

Review 22:the pillows were very uncomfortable! and the cleaner put back the dirty towels on the rack! We also expect a better tea

Review 23:the roses and the room decoration was very nice

Review 24:I've listed us as young couple because there isnt a catagory for 40's. I would consider "mature" in their sixties and above (like many of the couples we saw). Our room was uncomfortably warm (24 degrees). The thermostat in the room did not make any difference when we adjusted it. After our first night we mentioned this to someone at the front desk and she said she'd have it fixed (to about 21 degrees - she asked what our preference was) while we were out. It was the same the following night. We tried to open the windows for a cool breeze but they would slam shut.

Review 25:The suite was beautiful and comfortable (accept for the temperature).

Review 26:I believe our room may have been located above a banquet hall and there must have been a party going on so it was a bit loud.

Review 27:The rooms were spacious and clean. Very comfortable bed.

Review 28:very old, musty smell-not very pleasant. I've been in old, elegant hotels but they didn't have the smell like this one-they need updates, change of carpet, upgrades, badly. very expensive for what you get.

Review 29:great location, enjoyed having the spa in the same building, nice bar

Review 30:Stayed in an annex on 3rd floor. Since TV cabinet is located on the side, very hard to watch TV from bed. Air conditioning noisy and insufficient for hot weather. Expensive for what you get compare to Toronto.

Review 31:Location great, close to all theaters, in gorgeous surroundings. Good mattress, great bed linen, plenty of pillows ( lumpy, I guess due to frequent washing). nice large bathroom.

Review 32:We have stayed her before and continue to come back due to the service and feel at this hotel. They truly will accommodate anything to make your stay better. We love the excellent customer serivce and high standards of this property.

Review 33:I had specifically selected a room that was appropriate for our 10th anniversary based on a picture of it. The picture of the room was very romantic...red wallpaper and a fireplace. There wasn't a disclaimer stating that this wasn't necessarily the room I would be getting so I was incredibly disappointed and surprised to find we were given a green room without a fireplace.I consider this type of false advertising to be completely unethical. When we checked out,We weren't offered any type of discount when we mentioned the problem.I hope for the sake of future guests that this misleading practice is discontinued.

Review 34:I loved everything about our hotel except for the room.

Review 35:We stayed for a Friday and Saturday night and on Saturday there was a wedding which consumed all the parking for the hotel. Other than that not much to complain about.

Review 36:Location , location , location. The room was outstanding. What staff we interacted with were very helpful.

Review 37:For the price, could use a little updating, like the hallways.

Review 38:You absolutely cannot beat the location. And the hotel is so charming, but a bit dated. I like the old-fashioned charm, but others may prefer a more modern experience. That said, we had the most awesome one-bedroom suite. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was up-to-date. And I can't say enough about how lovely the staff was.

Review 39:The Prince of Wales is a bit larger than what we usually prefer, but Iwouldn't hold that against them.

Review 40:We stayed 3 nights to see 2 plays at the Shaw Festival. It was a fineexperience. The Prince of Wales is a first-class hotel with an excellentlocation in the heart of Niagara on the Lake. Our room was verycomfortable, with a large, well-equipped bathroom. Who would havethought of a tv volume control in the bathroom?

Review 41:Our room was just perfect with the porch and fireplace. We were there to celebrate a 50th anniversary with another couple (who were each other's best man) for their 50th as well. The two rooms next to each other made mornings and afternoons on the two porches just wonderful for us. It was just amazing. Made us feel very special!

Review 42:WiFi was clumsy and disappointing. Had to sign in over and over again and the process was tedious. High bathtub would make it challenging for people who can't easily step over side for the shower.

Review 43:Welcoming staff, everything was clean and attractive, great location, loved the roses in my room.

Review 44:We did not eat breakfast there because we were told at check in that it was $17 whether you ordered from the menu or had buffet. We don't like a large breakfast and would have preferred the chance to order a small and cheaper meal.

Review 45:Our room was pretty and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. Location of the hotel is perfect.

Review 46:We asked about upgrading our King Room. Was disappointing because room was very dark and smelled like old smoke. Was not worth an additional $80/night for the Suite. King would have been just fine.

Review 47:Staff was very nice upon arrival. The bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! Bathroom was a nice size and very clean. We dined at the hotel and the food was outstanding as well as the waiter!

Review 48:We were at the hotel for a wedding and loved the venue. We wanted to be able to stay nearby, rather than driving home. Very comfortable and elegant !! Thank you !

Review 49:The staff is all about the comfort and enjoyment of the guests. The pool is phenominal and so are the beds! The ambiance and beauty of the building and grounds is excellent.

Review 50:Not handicap friendly! Need : smooth floors and no threshold bumps! Room access with fewer corners, fewer steps in restaurant area, another handicap parking space, even though we were allowed to park near the back entrance, where delivery trucks, and other cars were 'temporarily' parked.

Review 51:beautiful premises, helpful staff.

Review 52:Wi-fi unusable, couldn't log on and password and log on was confusing to get access.

Review 53:Bedding comfortable, very nice staff and accommodating!!! We dropped off our rented bikes and they were able to return them for us! Thank you! Beautiful B&B - super excisite dinner! Pricey but delicious! Excellent location! We will return again! Excellent parking!!

Review 54:Towels a bit on the tarpaulin side. Resort fee ??? Is that surprise necessary for a hotel of such a high class ?

Review 55:The bed , the food, the architecture and interior decoration.

Review 56:We attempted to eat breakfast in the attached restaurant, but nobody came to take our order for about 10 minutes, so we left.

Review 57:Large, comfortable room located in the heart of Niagara-On-the-Lake. The room had a large couch, a nice desk, and a large TV.

Review 58:Poor attention to detail in having room appliances/lamps in good working order prior to arrival. Dining room reservations (specific table requested on three separate occasions but overlooked) leave much to be desired

Review 59:Nice people; great location

Review 60:We noticed that there were some scratches on the walls in our room where furniture or something had left marks. The lounge staff were young and not as professional as the other staff. A dress code should be in place for business casual and some people were sloppy and loud which took away from the classy ambiance of the hotel & restaurant/lounge.

Review 61:Love the bed and the linens. The bathrobes were very luxurious.

Review 62:Room has a strange musty smell· I guess the smell came from the vintage furniture and carpet. Overall, I think our one bedroom suites both need an upgrade to match with the class of this top graded hotel. The hotel breakfast service needs immediate improvement. Our waitress was attentive,we had been left almost 40mins to get our 4 a la carte orders ready with multiple call for attentions from our end. The waitress provided an excuse that no open fire in the morning, so our steak needed a longer time to cook. We were warned that the kitchen needs 20mins to get the steak ready. Ok but came after 40mins! Then when our steak and egg orders arrived, they were not cook to order, all were well done。The manager did waive our bills for the steaks, glad that he did. Otherwise,ou r day would be ruined fo r this poor service!

Review 63:location, location, and location! It is in the center of the historical area. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 64:Tea room was a bit too crowded. We decided to forgo the afternoon tea. The hectic atmosphere would have made it difficult to relax with all the hustle and bustle. It was clearly overbooked and it took away from the experience it was likely intended to create.

Review 65:The Victorian Decor was very realistic. Even in the newer section. The staff was polite and helpful.

Review 66:The hotel was very clean and we were surprised when we came back from dinner our first night to find music playing in the room and a rose on the pillow for the lady. Hotel staff was helpful when asked questions.

Review 67:I didn't see that the package includes wine tasting till after. We went out wine tasting and paid for it our selves. Also there was a wedding right across the hall, music was loud and so were the guest. I kept on waking up. The noise stopped around midnight. Then I couldn't go back to sleep anymore. I was very tired the next day.

Review 68:The bed with comfortable. Staff was very nice.overall very clean

Review 69:Very few channels on the TV, and the décor felt a little dated/faded--although everything felt spotlessly clean.

Review 70:Bed was very comfortable, and the turn-down service with roses is a lovely touch.

Review 71:The service in the bar after the show was non-existent. We wanted to eat and one barman said he would send the waitress over - she never appeared - we left hungry The hotel seemed more interested in their conference clients and not the concert guests. Very expensive hotel given the number of cheap hotel rooms in Niagara !

Review 72:Centre of the town close to Mumford concert

Review 73:The Prince of Wales is a very beautiful Inn. The rooms are very clean a beautifully decorated. I thought it was a bit pricey since there was no breakfast included in the price. We enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool every night after our long day of exploring the area. I will stay again if in the area.

Review 74:When booking, they didn't bother to say we had to cross the parking lot and stay in a small cottage at $300 per night. They should be up front about where rooms are located. Also, breakfast was very slow and very average.

Review 75:The WINDY air-condition. If we turn it off, the room gets very hot immediately. The bellows are too large and tough. After 4 hours trying to sleep and at 4:00 am, I decided to ask for feather/soft bellows. I got them but my night was already ruined because of the noisy & bad air-condition and the bellow. The staff are not professional. The breakfast was made without love. Poor presentation and taste really bad. Value for money: I would stay two nights and get better service.

Review 76:The location is the unbeatable.

Review 77:Bed was really high. No seriously... Room came with a step stool to give you a boost into bed... My wife needed it too hehe.

Review 78:Impressive property. Craftsmanship of the facility is attention to detail was impeccable. Enjoyed the jetted tub, surprise rose delivered in the afternoon, and all of the incredible wood trim and decor. Usually this old Victorian look is not my taste but you need to appreciate level of work here. Everything's is very lux.

Review 79:The Staff were super kind and went above and beyond to make this weekend special and comforting. They made us feel very taken care of. Can't wait to come back and stay here again!!!

Review 80:i have an allergy to dust and found a fair bit of it behind the bed. Nothing some extra meds couldn't fix

Review 81:Our room was amazing. The town is beautiful and the staff are warm hearted and enjoy what they do.

Review 82:The hotel was showing its age a bit. You can tell it had not gone through a renovation in a while. At the price that I paid, I expected the hotel to be in better shape. It could use a freshening up.

Review 83:The location of this hotel could not be better. It's right in the heart of the action. It has a nice royal feel to the lobby and the staff were terrific.

Review 84:HVAC was outside of our room. Constant noise all day and night. This was the smallest room we have stayed in at the hotel.

Review 85:We were upgraded to a better room when we arrived. This was our third stay. The rooms always look great.

Review 86:Everything about this place is wonderful. Yes it may be on the pricier side, but you are treated fantastic here. The little rose on the bed and newspaper in the morning is an extra bonus touch. Great location to all the stores and they will even call to make arrangements for the carriage ride.

Review 87:History.

Review 88:First room was preferred, but the salty, sweaty smell was unpleasant. Moved to next hotel which was nice but banged up. Not what I expected forThe money.

Review 89:Room cleaned daily but still very dusty. I think the air filter in the vents toon system needs replacement.

Review 90:Very relaxed environment. Staffs are efficient and show no signs of rushing because of good training. Very good restaurant setting for afternoon tea and dinner.

Review 91:I can't say anything negative - truly, only the high price may be off putting to some but it is worth it I promise.

Review 92:The place has such amazing history, and while expensive it is DEFINITELY worth the money. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and the quality of service was superior to that of the Royal York by comparison. I highly recommend it to anyone who wasn't not just a hotel - but an experience to go with it. The High Tea (casual buisness attire required) is an experience in of itself and I highly recommend it to anyone who stays here.

Review 93:The Prince Of Wales is simply the most elegant vintage hotel I've ever stayed at. For a romantic getaway, it is unparallelled. The staff was attentive to all our special requests and the experience couldn't have been nicer.

Review 94:Like all things in NOTL, it was pricey -- but not the worst! Booking ahead really helped, as did the fact that we were off-season.

Review 95:PoW is an absolutely gorgeous old hotel, beautifully maintained and renovated. We had parking with the room (a real bonus in NOTL), the staff were incredibly kind and accomodating, and the little bar/restaurant (Churchills) had great food, marvellous service -- this place made a weekend getaway one of our best-ever vacations.

Review 96:Price was quite high. We liked the hotel a lot but $250 a night was too much for a small-ish room on ground floor with a view to the parking lot. Also, staff entered our room on three separate occasions when we went out: in the morning (as per usual), in the afternoon while we were out visiting wineries and again in the evening when we went for a dip in the pool. It left us a bit uneasy - you don't expect someone else to have unlimited access to your locked in room apart from the morning tidy.

Review 97:We loved the over the top decor, the big comfy bed, and the friendly staff. The hotel got the details right - good coffee, wine glasses and opener, fresh oranges in the room.

Review 98:There was a mixup between booking.com and the hotel on our reservations. Fortunately, I had them printed and the matter was resolved within an hour. The hotel upgraded us for the inconvenience.

Review 99:We were visiting friends in Carlisle, ON who introduced us to Niagara on the Lake a few years back. This was our second visit, over the US Thanksgiving holiday (we live in US). The staff was outstanding, and the chef prepared a thanksgiving dinner which we thoroughly enjoyed. The lounge is cozy, and we very much enjoyed high tea. We'll be back soon.

Review 100:For whatever reason the pillows in the King suites were too hard and puffy. I know it sounds stupid but both my wife and I had an awful nights sleep as a result.

Review 101:Everything about the place exudes class. Prompt friendly service. Been here many times and never disappointed.

Review 102:We were put in the worst room in the hotel room number 317. The noise was unbelievable. Had to leave and find another hotel. When we left your night manager did not care about us at all, we will never come to your hotel again

Review 103:Skip the breakfast! Although the restaurant has a very beautiful atmosphere, the service for our breakfast was poor. After we had been seated for at least ten minutes with no greeting from a waitperson, we finally got up and got a pot of coffee for ourselves! Our food was served cold and appeared as tho it had been prepared earlier and re-warmed (and not even well enough!) Bill for two for crummy breakfast of two simple entrees and coffee $45.

Review 104:We loved the location which is right in the downtown area and within walking distance to the theatres, restaurants and shops. The room we had was very comfortable and clean, located in one of the 'cottages' next to the hotel. Liked the lounge/bar for cocktails and evening entertainment.

Review 105:Thee was one waiter english or Irish (?), on our saturday night (in your restaurant after 9:30 pm ) who was bordeline rude. Not sure what his deal was.... No Klenex in your washrooms downstairs or inthe lobby

Review 106:rom was wonderful, clean and loved the rose! Loved the coffee in the moring in the lobby . Hotel Manager Hazel did a great job accoodating and making us feel sopecial. We were a large group! Also thank you for the locvely bottle of wine in our room for my husbands 50th bday ☺

Review 107:Pool room was very hot and stuffy. In competition with all the B&B's, I'm surprised there isn't at least a continental breakfast included in the price.

Review 108:Loved having the indoor pool. Staff was knowledgeable, but concierge desk was not always manned during daytime. Great location for attending the Shaw Festival.

Review 109:each room service order was prompt but always missing something: fork, toast, wrong wine, napkin,

Review 110:convenience, safety, location, prompt room service, valet parking, helpful front desk help

Review 111:The best service we've ever had. My husband is handicapped and there was never a problem with getting help. They even used their shuttle service to take us places.

Review 112:Great location lots of great little boutiques and restaurants you must do the jet boat tour, so much fun......make sure you wear your swimsuit you will get soaked.

Review 113:We ordered room service, and had to call three times to get our food delivered, which ultimately took 90 minutes . The person taking the order, Rachel was her name I believe, blamed the delivery man, the delivery man blamed Rachel and the kitchen staff. The food was good, however, we had ordered iced tea and got a plastic bottle of it instead of brewed tea. Bearing in mind that tea is part of the signature personality of the Prince of Wales, we were disappointed with the tea. The dessert we had ordered had obviously been prepared at the time we placed the order, The funnel cake was hard and chewy when it arrived. Also, your advertisements boast in room movies and cable/satellite TV, yet our room had a very poor selection of channels, and no movies. (We had called several times to find out how to get the PPV movies, and no one seemed to know the answer. Finally someone told us that your off property accommodations

Review 114:The room was very nice, and clean. The spa and it's staff were also very good.

Review 115:The Prince of Wales hotel is an excellent remodeled replica of a bygone era all the while offering modern amenities and a staff that makes you aware from the moment you enter the front door that they are there to serve you! What a wonderful hotel! We will definitely return!

Review 116:There was nothing that did not please me at the hotel.

Review 117:Everything was pristine, beautiful and focused on the comfort and luxurious pleasure of the guest. Every request was honored graciously. I have never felt so relaxed and pampered in my life, and I didn't even visit the spa! I will definitely return to the Prince of Wales Hotel every time I come to Niagara on the Lake.

Review 118:We didn't dislike anything. The hotel is, however, seriously expensive -- not compared to the 5-6 major cities in the world, but compared to leisure hotels in pretty towns. It's good, but not excellent, value for money (in our opinion).

Review 119:A very classical, almost Victorian hotel with ample, well trained staff and superb location in a charming summer-theatre town

Review 120:One minor issue - perhaps more Keurig cups could be left in the room (this avoids having to go to the front desk to get more) & if some fresh creamers or milk could be left in the fridge.

Review 121:Everything was beyond expectations.

Review 122:Beautiful property with excellent amenities. Staff went above and beyond to assist in every way. Location great. Will definitely look for Prince of Wales properties for future travels. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a beautiful town with very friendly people. If you are looking for a relaxed setting, this is the place. It is only 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Niagara Falls. Would definitely return.

Review 123:The young woman at reception was rather rude and indifferent. For this money I expect to be fawned over with every staff encounter.

Review 124:The suite was beautiful and very comfortable. The bed itself was exceptional.

Review 125:air conditioning was a window unit that was very noisy. One would not expect this in such a high quality hotel at $400+ a night. It rattled and was loud

Review 126:very nice property with central location

Review 127:The only unpleasant wxperience was in the bar on the night of 9.July,where we stopped for a night cup after an exceptionl theater experience. The staff ( a man and a young lady) were not at par with the other restaurnat /hotel staff.Just the oposit.

Review 128:See above, overall very pleasant experience.Compares well with continental hotels ( recently visited Sacher Hotel in Saltzburg,Austria).

Review 129:Room was below ground level so lighting wasn't great - made the room feel a little gloomy because we couldn't really have the drapes open (as people walking by on the street could see in).

Review 130:Free shuttle, lovely rooms, good bar, great staff

Review 131:The Hotel is a bit pricey, but one does get many conveniences.

Review 132:The Prince of Wales Hotel is very elegant. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is centrally located, near all the shops and restaurants. The shuttle service was very useful, as one can use all the facilities at the other Vintage Hotels and not have to bother with other transportation.

Review 133:Breakfast buffet was horrible. The carafes were empty and what food was inside was cold. Told our waitress who managed to get the carafes replenished.

Review 134:Everyone was friendly, courteous, and helpful.
