Reviews for Painter's Lodge
Review 1:Beautiful views, lovely ledge. Staff helpful and friendly.Birthday dinner in the lounge by the fireplace, we had a great view and meal. There are many wonderful activities.
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:This place was amazing the rooms were clean with a view looking out to sea. We watched the seals playing in the water from our balcony. The bar and food were excellent as was breakfast good value for money. And of course there was the fishing and grizzly bear watching. All top drawer.
Review 4:This resort is stunning! It is located on the ocean and the views are incredible! There are many activities and tours available right on the property. I went before it closes down for the season and so the price was excellent! The food was amazing-the breakfast buffet had every imaginable goodie you could want for $30.00. I cannot wait to return!
Review 5:We noted the bathroom and washbasin fittings are in need of an upgrade.
Review 6:This visit was for our 10th wedding anniversary, the facility was above what my wife expected. The location was spectacular. The food, presentation and service was 5-star.
Review 7:The carpet in the room was stained and felt dirty, we had a loft room with 2 beds up and down, 1 bed down with a couch and table would have been great
Review 8:The views and proximity to the water are great, staff was friendly and helpful
Review 9:Needs a little face lift in some rooms to make it more modern. Room service would be nice too!
Review 10:Loved the beautiful location, pool & hot tub! Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice touch having so many tour options!
Review 11:Restaurant and food not as good as they seem to think it is . Tasteless and bland , poor value .
Review 12:Good comfy room . great for fishing and sightseeing excursions.
Review 13:We stayed 2 nights and hardly slept because all the plumbing for the block must have passed by our room (209). Everytime water was drawn it gushed passed our room and woke us up. Suspect it is the same at the left hand end on the 1st floor of each block.
Review 14:The offerings from the kitchen that serves the main restaurant, the bar, and the pub are poor. They offer a daily happy hour, but there are no discounts on the drinks (duh?). Although we enjoyed the fishing and the wildlife tours, the prices for everything are very high.
Review 15:It is a nice place in a terrific location, with friendly, helpful staff.
Review 16:Fishing trip was shorter than anticipated 4 hrs includes dock and travel time.
Review 17:They are well organized. Tours were very good especially the Grizzly Bear tour well worth the money.
Review 18:Had to move rooms due to a very noisy group above us. First night was ruined by inconsiderate people.
Review 19:Staff was very friendly, moved us to a quieter room with no problem. Very nice setting on the ocean,
Review 20:Had booked a room with balcony and garden view. Neither provided. Did not like the steps down in the bedroom. Great battle with bath plug which did NOT fit at all. Finally, given an universal one which worked!
Review 21:A quiet room as requested. Coffee- making machine was good. A good base from which to join bear-watching excursions on the main-land.
Review 22:Bathroom needs to be updated . Doors to balcony large gap wind blowing through gap. Must be very cold in winter. And huge loss of heat
Review 23:View. Quiet All rooms face ocean spectacular
Review 24:Coming back to my room after being gone all day and finding my door open about a foot and the room had not been finished cleaning up. apparently she left in the middle of cleaning and never came back. I had a computer an other valuables in the room
Review 25:Everything seemed very nice
Review 26:Wifi terrible, Every electtical appliance unplugged when we entered room. Light bulb missing from fixture. Shower pipes rattled at night when taking a shower. Old towels not ever removed from room the three days we were there. Had to ask for coffee to be replaced one day. Not restocked. Water not restocked. Door knob on inside loose and cover plate hanging. French door bottom locking pin would not engage. Wet rag left on one chair on day when we came in after room was cleaned. Room 407
Review 27:Location beautiful. Setting fantastic. Friendly staff
Review 28:Absolutely no drawers to put clothes in even though there was plenty of space in the room. Just put in a chest of drawers!!
Review 29:Fabulous location and comfortable beds. Very clean and large room.
Review 30:no bad experiences but our room was near the pool... parents were supposed to supervise but they weren't when we were there.. shrieking kids gave me a headache.
Review 31:location was right on the water. nice big room... clean and had restaurant facilities
Review 32:- no aircon in rooms only fans to circulate warm air! - no cooking facilities to make a quick snack or light breakfast in room.
Review 33:+ Great layout of family rooms +Free water taxi transfer to sister hotel and island +do as little or as much as you like - options for everyone
Review 34:Only guest computer is located down in the marina but it worked ok. The bar had run out of chardonney the night before -- what!!!
Review 35:Beautiful setting, good food, has reciprocity with resort across the water which was very nice as well.
Review 36:Only had a Queen room as we had arrived 2 days earlier than booked for...still managed to give us a water front room...really cute & cosy...very comfortable...relaxed atmosphere...loved it!!!!
Review 37:The view is fantastic... The manager, when we leaved the hotel was intelligent and quite fair with us.
Review 38:You don't buy a nigth just because the view is great. The hotel was full and we had a great room, the 301 : the noise of the ice machine outside was terrible so the noise of the refrigirator, machine, the tin was brocken...it happens and it was a week-end...so the employee told us to try to reserve a room downtown (we had made the reservations 7 months before...)...Well let's try to be nice... Il you want the view go there but if you want a real good hotel...think before.
Review 39:Nothing to complain about, very pleasant stay.
Review 40:The location was fantastic, the view out over the river while having a meal was superb. There was no excessive noise during the evening, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend anyone to stay here, you won't be disappointed.
Review 41:The location is amazing, the view is gorgeous, and the beds are so comfortable. Only thing missing was a tea kettle, there was only a coffee maker available.
Review 42:I cannot recommend the food. It was awful. However there is a bakery in town 'steiners' in dogwood road for breakfast and lunch and Anglers in Dolphins resort close by Painters was good for evening meal!
Review 43:If you want to go whale watching or fishing, painters lodge is a great location for a couple of days
Review 44:My only complaint was no one telling me I needed a ticket for the water taxi to April point. I was down there early and the young boy saw me waiting and never offered me a ticket or said anything to me. I had to get off the water taxi bc it was too full and I was late for my spa appt. I ended up waiting over an hour and it was cold, windy and raining. Kinda sucked.
Review 45:Loved the view, seeing whales while I ate! Food was delicious, staff super nice!
Review 46:The food in the Dining room was about a 3 out of 10, the Salmon was way over cooked, dry and tasteless, the veggies on the same plate had far to much chill peppers, burns taste buds.....the dessert well, what can I say but burnt topping, need to get the chef some lessons or find a new one.Finished dinner($78.00) went to the bar and had after dinner drink and ate French Fries( best thing there). will not go back as the whole package is not there, food the pits......
Review 47:the resort itself was nice
Review 48:The dining room served us the worst meal we have ever had. The steak was overdone, the sauce for the steak had so much pepper as to make it almost inedible. We complained and didn't finish. They only gave us a 25% discount, we would have ordered something different if the opportunity had been offered.
Review 49:Fabulous location, helpful staff.
Review 50:Disappointed at Lack of Celiac gluten free food, like a basic piece of toast...at Painter's lodge
Review 51:Where as April point's kitchen totally Celiac gluten free friendly even a designated deep fat fryer for French fries, wiling to adjust menu
Review 52:Used the pool the first day of arrival.....14 very loud and drunk men swearing, drinking and smoking (in the pool) spoiled ours and others relax time. Staff came to tell them but they only stopped for about five minutes.
Review 53:Really liked the rustic feel and the historical photos. Staff were very friendly. Loved the bed but did not like the pillows. AC did little to cool the room, but could open windows at night....virtually no bugs.
Review 54:Dirty towels left in room from previous occupants. Breakfast: 1/2 hour to get coffee. Dirty coffee mug. Then handed a dirty spoon. Waited another 20 minutes for breakfast. Walked out and drove to a local breakfast diner for much quicker/cleaner service. Would not go back.
Review 55:Liked the Staff friendliness, and they seem quite happy to be working there, and the overall ambiance. I'm looking forward to returning for another stay
Review 56:When I arrived my room was terribly hot and had an unpleasant smell. It was a hot day. Even though there is no AC, the windows were all closed, the drapes were open and the fan off. Despite my reservation it felt like no one was expected. Then went to the pub where my well prepared burger was accompanied by fries prepared from frozen. Told by staff that the menu did not say they were prepared fresh.
Review 57:Beautiful location and well kept grounds.
Review 58:Guests with mobility problems should be aware that there is no elevator.
Review 59:We stayed in the main lodge which was full of character, luxurious and had great views. Highly recommended.
Review 60:room very hot (humid heat wave), in room coffee watery, ate at dining room/pub 4 times and it always took a long time to get the check?, not enough parking,
Review 61:stunning ocean view, grounds, friendly staff, restaurant food & drink,
Review 62:No A/C,service on deck sometimes a little poor.Visiting April Point at busy times the ferry could be bigger as we had to wait an 1 Hour to get back.
Review 63:A very comfortable hotel in a great location.Whale watching and salmon fishing offered by hotel.Great views,go to April point aswell.
Review 64:Really gone downhill over the years. Had to wait some time to check-in (after 4PM???) Very, very noisy. Restaurant food tries too hard, and fails. Breakfast used to be good, and now is mundane and expensive for what you get. Needs re-furbishing. 2 star resort as it stands.
Review 65:Boat trip away
Review 66:External corridor lights on constantly intruding into room.
Review 67:Surprisingly large room. Deck for eating and great views of the sound. Marine activity centre.
Review 68:Excessive noise from a huge fan (air conditioning compressor ?) just outside the main lodge, running all day, and once at night as well. The noise could be heard throughout the resort.
Review 69:The scenery. The good food. The water taxi to the April Point resort.
Review 70:No room service, slightly confusing service in the lounge: we were only given pub menus. Service was slower there as well.
Review 71:Large room, free boat service to April Point
Review 72:Property dated and rooms in need of renovation Our room had an unpleasant smell which would not go away despite keeping the window facing the ocean open for hours. No air conditioning Breakfast not included and a little expensive.
Review 73:the location is good with great views
Review 74:Location on the waterfront friendly and helpful staff.had great breakfast overlooking the marina. Free boat ride to sister resort and spa on the island10 min away
Review 75:No air conditioning or screens on the door or windows, therefore became a bit stuffy at night. Just weren't sure what critters might have come in if we opened it up.
Review 76:Lovely property, good breakfast at the restaurant. Used the water taxi to go to Quadra and enjoyed a little visit there. Had a young deer outside our door eating the apples on the tree.
Review 77:Two clerks were on the desk when we arrived. One was pretty unhelpful (we needed an early check-in for medical reasons); the other was an absolute gem and did everything she could to accommodate us. The first one could take a page from her colleague's book!
Review 78:We loved the location and the layout of the lodge. The view was spectacular and the atmosphere very laid back.
Review 79:Breakfast rather disappointing
Review 80:Hotel is getting a bit old, but the location compensated for it. The room was clean, the bathroom was small and musty. The staff are friendly, especially the fishing crew. We had the extraordinary pleasure of fishing with Bruce. What an experience! The food in the pub was okay but nothing special.
Review 81:I really had to stretch to find a short coming but the only thing I can think of is it lacked an elevator.
Review 82:Everything about the Painters Lodge was beautiful! From the manicured grounds to the quaint rooms, everything was perfect, relaxing and charming.
Review 83:The Internet did not work.
Review 84:Great location, friendly staff and beautiful grounds. The rooms are spacious clean and comfortable and the restaurant is outstanding.
Review 85:Room not soundproof. Needs upgrading. Original concept good but much wood of construction is old, brittle and rotting. One wonders about fire protection and risk.
Review 86:Location - food service & quality, (staff excellent & courteous).
Review 87:Rooms were warm and opening window and door invited cigarette smoke and lots of noise from fellow lodgers on nearby balconies. Walls and floors aren't insulated for sound, so it was hard to sleep. Restaurant experiences were mixed between gracious and rude, yum and so-so.
Review 88:Beautiful grounds and building; landscaping looks like it could easily become native. Liked the emphasis on environmental stewardship. Appreciated that we could have our dog with us.
Review 89:In late May, with fine weather the room was quite hot at the end of the afternoon and would expect it to be rather more uncomfortable in hottest part of season as the chalet had no A/C.
Review 90:Marine facilities and accommodation. Pub has nice atmosphere. Breakfast on patio was very good and relaxing.
Review 91:There was a problem with our friends booking. There 'confirmed' booking.com reservation was not at the hotel and the hotel was fully booked for the night. It took the front desk staff an hour to figure out what to do... it wasn't so much the time as the lack of communication and time spent looking at computer terminals.
Review 92:We were upgraded to a suite so we had ample room, even for our friends who were traveling with us to socialize that evening. The views were spectacular and the food was very good. Staff in the lounge were very friendly and efficient.
Review 93:Wonderful scenery. Rooms were very comfortable. Nice to stay in a place where people like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope had once stayed. We aren't fishermen but enjoyed the charm and environs anyway.
Review 94:Bar food was just average. Had difficulty with bill when they charged for their standard rate as opposed to the on-line rate I booked, but once I pointed it out to them, they quickly made the adjustment, but if I had not noticed.... Hot tub - with jets the foam was gross!!
Review 95:Very quiet rooms even with people next store. Beautiful setting. Nice staff.
Review 96:This is the first time in over 30 stays using booking.com or hotels.com that we did not get the room we reserved. We reserved a double room with sea view, what we got was a room with a view but the double bed was on a lower level and you had to stand up to look out the window. No fridge as indicated in the booking. When we questioned the discrepancy, staff asked why we would need two beds. They stated that reservations on booking.com do not indicate the type of room only if sea view or not.
Review 97:Great location
Review 98:Beautiful hotel with fab views and ideally positioned for exploring this lovely part of the island. Check out the free water taxi from Painters Lodge to their sister hotel on April Point for breakfast!
Review 99:Our stay was not long enough.
Review 100:Nice setting with beautiful gardens. Nice deck to sit on. Close to the water. Offers many activities from the lodge. Able to take boat to sister property on Island. Close to Campbell River township. Large rooms.
Review 101:Great property, lovely room opening to water view. Nice swimming pool. Good breakfast on sunny terrace and fun to take the boat to sister property for dinner. Would come again.
Review 102:The pub was a bit too noisy and the food not quite as good as I would have liked
Review 103:Able to go across the water for breakfast made for a different experience
Review 104:Service in the casual restaurant was inattentive, and spotty. The TV remote didn't work, was reported on the night of arrival, two days later it had not been fixed. On checkout the bills for the rooms were mixed up and took a while to correct. The two rooms booked by one person were assigned in separate buildings. The rooms, while clean, need an update. The grounds were untidy and needed much attention.
Review 105:The location was convenient. The setting was nice.
Review 106:My sister works at Panters Lodge and we whent there for my other sister's memorial of life held at the lodge. The reast of the staff were very friendly and helpfull. Will say if anyone wants to go to Campbell River this is good place to stay and they can provide all the needs guided tours, fishing, spa, air port pick up and return. The food is great at a good price.
Review 107:Stayed in Room 1 on a Saturday night. A used towel was hanging in the bathroom when we checked in = never a good sign. If you stay in Room 1 bring your ear plugs ... window side overlooks parking and is very close to the Hotel front door while the other side of the room faces a hallway across from a stairwell going to what I think is an upper level party room (at least it was when we were there). Having said that we will go back if we can get a quiet, view room.
Review 108:Stellar seaside location with guided fishing available on site. Main Lodge marries historic charm with modern convenience.
Review 109:April Point closed the day before we arrived - so no spa Would have preferred that menu varied more over the week we were there Food portions much too large for European appetites One off-hand waiter one evening - he told us that they had no coffee left - at 9.15pm!! Coffee available in bar, but we would have preferred to complete our meal at the dining table.
Review 110:Location/Rooms/restaurant Excellent bar staff
Review 111:IT'S NOT A 5* LUXARY HOTEL, I WORK IN THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY AND I WOULD ACTAULLY RATE THIS AS A 3* SUPERIOR. THE WHOLE OF THE RESORT NEEDS A FACELIFT, IT STUCK IN AN 80'S TIMEWARP
Review 112:NOTHING BAD ABOUT THE PROPERTY, IT JUST DID NOT LIVE UP TO IT'S REPUTATION OF A LUXURY RESORT. DINNER IN THE PUB WAS SO SO - NOTHING SPECTACULAR
Review 113:Gym could do with updating.
Review 114:The hotel is well worth visiting. Rooms are very comfortable with housekeeping every day. Clean towels, extra coffee, just ask!! Restaurant and Tyree pub look over the bay, fantastic views. Food is good value for money and the staff were extremely friendly. We will most definitely stay there again if in the region.
Review 115:My friend made the reservations for 2 rooms at the beginning of 2014 but we were accommodated in different buildings.
Review 116:Our room was very comfortable, on the second floor with enough beds for a family of four. Our friends could have been accommodated in the same room as we were only there for a couple of nights.
Review 117:rooms are a bit old fashioned, the hotel fairly big, the pool small
Review 118:location is nice, as is the view, rooms are big, pub food decent, sister hotel on quadra island allows for free shuttle and great sundowner, best wifi we had so far
Review 119:The complex hasn't been renewed since the 50'. Way too expensive for what you get.
Review 120:Well organized and friendly staff, it was clean and had a nice view.
Review 121:THE DINNER IN THE MAIN DINING ROOM AT PAINTERS LODGE. WAITER WAS VERY GOOD BUT...The food was TERRIBLE Both my friend and I had trouble eating our over cooked meal ..the halibut was dry as a bone ..Judys steak was overcooked and crab rubbery..A huge dissapointment and would hesitate to eat in this restaurant again. We were offered a dessert to placate us but really we should not have had to pay for this and it did spoil the rest of our stay...We are very easy going people and normally do not complain so this was unacceptable.. WE ACTUALLY WALKED DOWN THE ROAD TO DOLPHINS FOR BREAKFAST THE NEXT DAY TO AVOID EATING HERE AGAIN...
Review 122:The day was great and the Spa a wonderful relaxing time on the deck for a pedicure .Super margarita on patio at April Point ...All staff were polite and friendly as well as helpful The room was fine and clean Might suggest getting flat screen T.V and bed was a bit firm But quite happy with the accomodation
Review 123:the check in time at 3 pm seems very late, for people to arrive, especially as on your booking page is a request line for preferable check in! The smell of the room at the Quadra wing bothered us somehow. Old stale smell.......
Review 124:the food was very good, service was very good, very friendly servers, the beds were very comfortable.
Review 125:Had to query overcharge on bill Staff in hotel weren't over friendly
Review 126:Upgrade to cabin Fishing trip Location Weather Staff in activity centre Transfer to April point
Review 127:Our reservation was not what we paid a deposit for. Did not get all the room types we paid for. The front desk does not have a good reservation system. Great property otherwise!
Review 128:Location, room views, fishing, landscaping, food. Ask for Treavor for your fishing guide!
Review 129:Extrem cold air conditioning in several parts of the Restaurant. Food not impressive at the Painters Lodge main Restaurant.
Review 130:Nice located resort, great views and well equipped. Large rooms and balconies. Free boat transfer to April Points resort, excellent Restaurant.
Review 131:We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony every evening with a cold beer and an 'appie', looking out across the Straits of Georgia watching the log rafts, salmon fishing boats, cruise liners. The service was excellent, food delicious (very reasonable prices), the pool is clean and well-kept. The Lodge is away from the town and its 'box stores', giving it a feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, so quiet and peaceful. Just go there and experience it for yourselves!
Review 132:The pool needs a revision There should be washrooms and a better change room The food was overpriced for what we ate. The view was great, the staff were nice but the menu and pricing needs to be reviewed. There should be a better range of pricing.
Review 133:Our room and the view. The option of travelling between resorts by boat.
Review 134:I went to Painter's Lodge to relax after a week-long kayaking trip. Unfortunately, the pool and jacuzzi were closed for maintenance, and the spa was fully booked (and the spa didn't answer the phone despite repeated calls to book a massage weeks in advance). After two complaints about rattling water pipes in my room, there was no follow up, no resolution to the problem - and no apology. When asked at check-out if I had enjoyed my stay and I replied that there had been problems, they didn't apologize - just pointed to the comments card and told me to fill one out. Not very good service considering the price, and the facilities I had expected and the reasons I chose Painter's Lodge - a massage and jacuzzi - weren't available. Not pleased.
Review 135:The restaurants were excellent, and the wait staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The view from the deck and restaurants were fabulous.
Review 136:April point, had dinner there with fish we caught, however the chef didn't know how to prepare it or just plain gave us the rib cage and kept the fillets for himself. Would have been done right at Painter's.
Review 137:The lodge was great.
