Reviews for Inn on Frederick

Review 1:We rented the 'house' which is actually attached to the hotel. You have to go through the main bedroom to get to the second bedroom. The kitchen was missing many basic utensils and had no counter space.

Review 2:The staff was eager to please, and the location was very convenient.

Review 3:The room and place in General could use a little decorating that would warm it some.

Review 4:Location was great. Breakfasts were wonderful! Host was very helpful!

Review 5:Welcoming helpful host, happy to give info on restaurants etc. We arrived in the middle of a huge storm, so umbrellas were a welcome addition! Breakfast excellent, and beautifully presented.

Review 6:Not a bad experience just a comment. Fodor guidebook ha a whole different write-up on this location. We later learned it was about the former owner (4 years ago) . Spoke about gourmet chef etc. I personally did not care about chef, etc. but I bet others came for that.

Review 7:Staff (owner) was very helpful. Explained all the features in the room we needed to know. Heat, lights, locks, etc.

Review 8:Stairs were a bit steep.

Review 9:Great location one block from water and stores. St Andrew's is delightful and the inn is a pretty Edwardian house. Nice verandah to sit out on.

Review 10:The Inn on Frederick was the perfect place to stay overnight in St. Andrews. The room was comfortable, the breakfast wonderful and the host welcoming.

Review 11:. If you don't like big,fat pillows, you might want to bring your own. No free breakfast. No coffee to use with the coffee maker in the kitchen.

Review 12:We liked the location and the 2 bedroom house. It was old,but showed the effort to make it comfortable for guests.

Review 13:A charming inn in a house close to the main street. The staff - a family - were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious - a delicious omelette with fruit, beautifully presented. The breakfast room was charming, shabby chic.

Review 14:breakfast was included but they didn't offer us anything but coffee t drink. water or juice would have been nice.

Review 15:Location was great. They also put up balloons for my daughters birthday so that was nice.

Review 16:Just absolutely wonderful! From the Inn keeper Jay, the presentation of breakfast, the overall character and feel of this B&B. Wish we could visit more often.

Review 17:Amazing breakfast, exceeded our expectations. Owners were so very very accommodating and kind. Great place, would definitely recommend and we hope to go back soon!

Review 18:Inn looks a little run down and would benefit with an update-too much dishevelled Victorian. A young couple runs this location and the whole persona of the Inn would benefit from an injection of modern; paint the interior, ditch the florals and add some local artist works.

Review 19:Good layover location within walking distance of everything. Owner very welcoming and accommodating- great breakfast.

Review 20:The air conditioner was most welcome but it was extremely noisy and had to turn it off. Thankfully it was cool enough that evening that we didn't needed it. The mirror in the bathroom was very old and foggy...hard to put makeup on.

Review 21:We were met with a smile and the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. We had trouble with our television and Eugenie had the problem fixed in minutes. The Inn's locatoin was perfect. It was so close to the main street. We would stay there again.

Review 22:Inn is outdated, decor needs to be refreshed (too many plastic flowers!, need nicer and more comfortable comforter, bed sheets, etc)

Review 23:Excellent location, good breakfast, sweet staff willing to help

Review 24:Although parking is free, if you have a large vehicle you need to park on the street in front of the inn.

Review 25:Location. Easy walk to the pier, restaurants and shopping.

Review 26:Beautiful, spacious room. Big bathroom. Large, comfortable bed. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. Location is great, just steps away from all the activities of St Andrews.

Review 27:We had a heavy rain while there and the rain came through the upper casing of the window into the bathroom. However, I must add that we were moved to a very nice room for our second night.

Review 28:Excellent location.

Review 29:breakfast, though it tasted good was pretty much the same thing for our 3 day stay, and was just presented in different ways. Was disappointed to discover the korean restaurant had been closed for 3 years, yet it is still listed on the web.

Review 30:loved the location, and cleanliness of the room, staff was very pleasant and professional.

Review 31:Amazing Hotel, the owners were lovely and gave recommendations on localfood places. The breakfast was the best we had in north america, and thejacuzzi bath was just what we needed. Could have stayed here for days!!

Review 32:Ask for lower floor if walking up multiple flights is a problem.

Review 33:Friendly welcome, charming accomodations, delicious breakfast. Just steps away from Main Street.

Review 34:Nothing! We loved it all!

Review 35:I can't say enough about this Inn. We stayed in the Family Room. It was spacious, clean, quiet, super comfortable. The innkeeper was friendly, pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 36:I booked it with the full understanding that we had a free breakfast. At check-in we were told that breakfast was not included. Very, very disappointed.

Review 37:The building had an old feel to it, so perhaps a bit of retouching on the outside could help + landscaping, but if you dont mind the look on the outside, then this hotel was perfect.

Review 38:The staff and breakfast were the best part. Breakfast was made right on time, the staff were very friendly, and the presentation of the breakfast was perfect. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling through St.Andrews.

Review 39:Wonderful older building in great condition. Room with King size bed, well laid out. Bathroom facilities excellent. Excellent Wifi. Breakfast was great and the staff were excellent.

Review 40:Being an old house, room door lock and some bathroom details were not easy to use. Was quite elegant, but not quaint, due probably to large scale of house.

Review 41:Host very kind and professional. Very attentive. Wonderful breakfast in quality and presentation. Superb location for access to shops, restaurants and water.

Review 42:nothing we did not like, we would go back in a hearbeat

Review 43:We loved the location, it was a lovely place and the breakfast was excellent and beautifully presented. We would highly recommend it.

Review 44:Fine facility in the heart of St. Andrews. While there was walking involved to the 3rd floor, the view of the harbour was impressive. Our room was incredibly quiet even though the Inn was full. Staff was very welcoming and helpful.

Review 45:Unfortunately, there was a plumbing problem while I stayed at the Inn and I had to leave half way through my week reservation due to the fact that the entire Inn flooded terribly. I was afraid to stay because of the water damage and risk of fire associated with this (I know electricity, older wiring and water don't mix well). They honoured my decision and did not charge me for the entire week, which I am grateful for. I wish I could have stayed longer and I would have, if not for the flooding. I wish them the very best of luck and hope they resolve their plumbing issues and have repairs done properly to ensure the safety of their patrons in the future.

Review 46:Jay and his family who currently run the Inn on Frederick are exceptional people, so gracious, kind and friendly. They went out of their way to be helpful and even made my sick mom a beautiful crepe, which I took to her and she loved it. The breakfasts are delicious works of art, unlike anything I have experienced at other B&B's. I highly recommend this B&B for comfort, friendliness and breakfast :)

Review 47:The innkeepers were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. They did everything within their control to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible.

Review 48:I can't say anything bad about this experience.

Review 49:this is the first time we go to a hotel and the owner, Jay, actually comes and show you your room. Everything is spotless, the beds are super confortable. The breakfast is excellent. The hotel is run by Jay, his wife and children; they will go out of their way to make you feel like you are at home. It is nice to feel you are part of the family and just not a guest. We highly recommended.

Review 50:The host was very friendly and kind, and most helpful. The food was absolutely amazing, the service flawless, and the location ideal. Our room and bathroom was spotless, as was the whole b&b. Wonderful stay, and will be back.

Review 51:young couple who are running the B&B were very nice. The house needs some updating but he breakfast room was lovely and the food tasty and beautifully presented.

Review 52:Toilet had a problem with flushing...water kept running. We advised the manager but issue continued.

Review 53:Breakfast was great! Staff were very helpful and responsive.

Review 54:We enjoyed the Inn very much. The owners are very friendly&work hard to please their visitors. The breakfast was delicious & the coffee was the best we have had in an Inn/B&B. Lovely experience over all.

Review 55:Bad smell of garbage next to property. Third floor walkup room

Review 56:Extremely nice, helpful owner. Unfortunately had room on an upper floor- did get help carrying suitcases up.

Review 57:The owners are so polite and always eager to make sure your stay is perfect. Breakfast is beautiful to look at and delicious and served to you. Great experience.

Review 58:If one were limited in their mobility, the building being 180 some years old, the stairs would be a major challenge. Otherwise, we would be hard-pressed to find anything to dislike about it.

Review 59:Pretty much everything. The breakfast was gourmet level.

Review 60:Everything was great. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to our friends and family. The best breakfast we have ever had at a B & B !

Review 61:The Innkeeper was so welcoming and helpful! We arrived later in the evening (after 9 PM) and the Innkeeper helped us find a place to eat. He helped us unload and carried our luggage to our room. Breakfast was both beautiful and delicious!! The coffee was very good too. The house is warm and inviting; our room was spacious and very comfortable. The house was very clean!! Shower has the best water pressure!! Its the little things and these folks really understand that. We highly recommend this house and would stay again on our next trip to St. Andrews. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Review 62:One of the best B&B's we stayed at. The hosts were very helpful and accommodating. This historic home was well maintained with all of the amenities. Perhaps one of the most memorable experiences was the breakfast - gourmet in every aspect.

Review 63:The innkeeper and his staff were amazing! They provide outstanding service and make you feel so welcome. The breakfast was a work of art in presentation and taste. We look forward to returning.

Review 64:The Inn is located in a beautiful home, seconds from everything Saint Andrews has to offer. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast is excellent.

Review 65:We could see the water from our room and were around the corner from several great eateries and bars with live entertainment. Breakfast was a beautifully presented omelette with fruit, yogurt, French toast & juice. The host & hostess were very gracious and helpful.

Review 66:It wasn't a bad experience but it may be for someone that likes to sleep in - my room overlooked the grocery store next door and on at 7am on a Thursday morning, the garbage company was there, compacting the waste bin. It was noisy but I had the windows open. Not the fault or control of the hosts at all but something to be aware of, location-wise.

Review 67:I had the Queen Room for my one night stay and when I walked in, my eyes grew to the next size up. It was beautifully laid out and furnished, but with modern conveniences. I couldn't believe I had lucked out on such a lovely room. Also, the hosts were very attentive and friendly.

Review 68:Window unit air conditioner above the bed was so noisy.

Review 69:Host was very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was beautiful and original...so nicely presented and delicious.

Review 70:Certainly not a bad experience in any way. It would be nice if there was a sitting area for guests to visit as we were travelling with friends and too rainy and cool to sit outside

Review 71:The young owner is "over the top" helpful. Carries luggage, waits tables in breakfast room, very nice people, beautifully maintained home and immaculate

Review 72:the room we had booked on first floor was beautiful but we were told it could be noisy. The only other available room was not very nice: it was small, wood floor was badly stained and yet it was the same price. Staircase was in need of a vacuum.

Review 73:Jay was helpful in all possible ways from carrying our luggage on arrival and departure to excellent recommendations on where to eat.

Review 74:There was nothing we disliked. The only thing that could be better is more leeway on the cancellation policy - eg to be able to cancel more than up to ten days beforehand. We almost didn't book this place because we were afraid we wouldn't be able to cancel if necessary.

Review 75:Great value for money. Bedroom and bathroom were both clean and comfortable. Our room was a king-size bedroom and very spacious. The location is great, and very quiet at night despite being in the heart of town.

Review 76:The breakfasts were amazing...gourmet with a presentation that made me take my camera out. Also, J (Jay), often was there to open the door, carry luggage, offer coffee, water, etc. Very Clean, and wonderful.

Review 77:We had a great stay: the staff was so nice, the room was very comfortable, the property was lovely. Best of all was the breakfast - it was delicious!!

Review 78:Fabulous location just a block from downtown, plenty of parking, a clean comfortable room with hotel toiletries and robes, attentive owners that paid attention to every detail and a delicious breakfast that looked too beautiful to eat.

Review 79:Jay and his wife keep the most beautiful immaculate bed and breakfast Inn - it was a highlight of our stay along the Canadian coast. The breakfast they served was scrumptious, and rivaled the most gourmet brunches we've had (and we're from San Francisco!)

Review 80:Our room was pretty, neat & very clean. The location was very convenient for sight seeing. The host was friendly & helpful. Our breakfast was absolutely delicious.

Review 81:The kitchen didn't seem to be quite ready with an unattached counter top and the outlet for the coffee wasn't working.

Review 82:The inn is just off the main drag, Water Street, and there is a grocery store on the corner. Plenty of parking space. Very spacious accommodation and a delicious breakfast. Very comfy bed. Helpful staff.

Review 83:That I had to go home

Review 84:The Innkeepers are better than any I've experienced worldwide! The food was over the top! Healthy Gourmet and fabulous presentation! Charming older building in a great location.

Review 85:The location relative to town couldn't be better. Quiet street but right next to a grocery store. Less than a block away from the water. Host and hostess were awesome. Room was huge, bright, cheery and quiet. Our host even carried our admittedly heavy bags upstairs for us. Heartily endorse this place!

Review 86:The inn is a lovely historic oasis located within walking distance of many shops and places of interest. Jay is the best host ever, anticipating your every need without being intrusive.

Review 87:A lovely gem tucked just off the main harbourfront. This hotel is run by a young man and his wife who couldn't do enough. Breakfast was an artistic masterpiece and they catered for gluten free. Please ensure you state dietary requirements when booking-they were very quick to respond. The whole hotel has a very Victorian-esque feel to it which adds to the experience. Don't expect modern or contemporary and you will not be disappointed. Great vslue for money too. We stayed here on our return from Maine to Halifax. Would stay here again.

Review 88:There is no scenic view of the water or nature. We stayed on the ocean side and we had to look hard to see the water. Some people like to leave before eight a.m. so it would be good if breakfast could be served at 7:00 if requested.

Review 89:Conveniently near, downtown area. Room was not small and had a sitting area. Had a nice fridge, coffee maker. Clean, quiet. We met only one staff but he was friendly and very accommodating. Even carried baggage. Breakfast was lovely!

Review 90:We had booked the room without any expectations as we were a bit last minute. We were pleasantly surprised with the warm welcoming, the price of the room, the location of the Inn and the delicious hot breakfast :)

Review 91:Building in process of renovation so not as elaborate furnishings as some B&B but that doesn't effect your rest!

Review 92:Very quiet and restful. Lots of hot water. Fancy breakfast. Excellent and personable service.

Review 93:Quite old facility. TV not working, bathroom sink not secured, chandelier too low, at 6ft tall, hit my head a couple of times. Needs work

Review 94:Very quiet, The breakfast was great. The owner very accomodating

Review 95:Only issue for one in our party was the amount of steep stairs. Perhaps it would be advisable to inquire if that would be a concern when people call.

Review 96:Atmosphere was quiet and Victorian. Staff were lovel and so accommodating. The breakfast which was included was very special with unique presentation.

Review 97:No complaints

Review 98:The inn is beautifully decorated, the host friendly and welcoming, the bed very comfortable. A nice touch was the refridgerator in the room. A nice place to put my feet up at the end of a long day!

Review 99:No problems - great place.

Review 100:Spacious room and lovely feel to the whole place. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff. Within walking distance of St Andrews town and restaurants.

Review 101:Nothing to dislike

Review 102:Our host was attentive but not intrusive, helpful and humbly willing to please. Our room on the third floor was well furnished, clean and bright and the layout made good use of the interesting roof angles and corners. The Jacuzzi in the bathroom was a welcome addition after a day of walking and sightseeing in the off and on drizzle. Breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious; also, healthy and filling without being heavy.

Review 103:The young family that run the inn is terrific. Our room was superb, we were given excellent advice regarding where to eat in the town and what to see, and the breakfast was first rate. We will definitely be returning. The Inn on Frederick is everything you could want in a B & B.

Review 104:Third floor was difficult without an elevator.

Review 105:Jay, the owner was so helpful to us. He hauled all our bags upstairs and down. Served us breakfast. He was so friendly and kind. He made our stay so enjoyable.

Review 106:Lovely Inn, helpful staff, great coffee and really outstanding breakfast in the light-filled breakfast room. Great value and very high quality, we will stay here again.

Review 107:Needed additional counter space in bathroom. Room was clean, but not spotless.

Review 108:J and his wife made and served the most amazing breakfast. Unusual, delicious and beautiful. They were very hospitable. Very kind. Always asking if we needed anything. We had the room at the top of the house which was quite spacious and light.

Review 109:Excellent breakfast. Very aesthetically presented in an elegant and light filled breakfast room. Large bathroom. Loved being able to open the window at night. Gracious host

Review 110:Fella's take your lady to a place where she will feel like a princess. This can be achieved at the Inn on Frederick. It was classy, beautiful inside and the service was outstanding.

Review 111:We liked everything. The breakfast was a gourmet's feast and healthy. Our luggage was carried for us whenever we needed help. The room was lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 112:Nothing

Review 113:The owners were very nice people Amazing breakfast! Close to the Main Street. We were on the main floor which was so nice and our room was large.

Review 114:The Inn is right downtown, very close to the main street, Water street. The young owner is very friendly and helpful. The room we had was so beautifully decorated, and had a view on the harbour. The breakfast was excellent! We wished we could have stayed longer, and are already planning to go back to St. Andrews and to this Inn.
