Reviews for Parkhotel du Sauvage
Review 1:Very easy to reach with a car or a train. This is the hotel where Sherlock Holmes stayed before going to Reichenbachfall, so if you are there - make sure you visit the waterfall itself, it's 10 minutes away with a car.
Review 2:Heaters were not working , they gave me portable heaters which made the room smell... But as an overall was okey
Review 3:Location is perfect ... Room was huge and clean
Review 4:Our room was rather small and for the price we paid i was expecting something more comfortable. It wasn't worth 4 stars for me.
Review 5:Great location within walking distance to the train station. Good breakfast with a lot of choice. Nice staff. The hotel itself is a pretty building, a bit old fashioned but it has its charm.
Review 6:With little money and more interior style it could be a gem. Talk to a professional interior designer, this building deserves better interior.
Review 7:reminds me The Grand Budapest Hotel from the movie
Review 8:As it is very old hotel can do great by renovating a bit.
Review 9:Stayed for one night, loved the town and this hotel. The decor was brilliant. Breakfast was rich with good variety The location is wonderful next to Sherlock Holmes museum and close to train station and supermarket.
Review 10:We accidentally double booked our room but didn't find out until checkin. The staff was understanding and erased the duplicate reservation without penalty. They just don't make hotels like this anymore. Old world charm and the perfect location. Will definitely return again! Be sure to visit the aare gorge (walking distance)!
Review 11:Service in the bar didn't match up to the efficiency and friendliness found everywhere else. The bathroom was beautifully appointed but the large gap between wall and ceiling meant that there wasn't enough privacy. The bacon at breakfast was rather cold, although the egg was piping hot.
Review 12:Friendly and helpful staff, especially on reception. Beautiful decor, particularly in the foyer and on the landings. Lovely big room with balcony and mountain view. Magnificent breakfast in a beautiful room.
Review 13:was probably great 20 years ago. Felt a bit neglected / in need of renovation. Toilet didn't flush properly, not all light bulbs working in the room, breakfast was below expected standard
Review 14:the garden
Review 15:reception overwhelmed, too many departures to be managed by only one staff Reception not manned 24hrs. One needs to take along a bulcky key No proper coffee expresso available for breakfast...only out of these tastless machines
Review 16:nice big room...big positive surprise
Review 17:Elderly property, some renovations necessary in the bathroom or windows
Review 18:Breakfast, centrally located, spacious room
Review 19:Very poor from Inside
Review 20:Very nice from outside Frühstück war gut.
Review 21:very friendly staff, clean and spacious room
Review 22:Great location in the village and beautiful hiking
Review 23:Really nice staff
Review 24:My room has seen the best part of the seventies. Could do with a renovation
Review 25:Friendly helpful and pro active staff
Review 26:Wonderful place!
Review 27:No heating
Review 28:quiet, good bed
Review 29:Internet in lobby is free, but you have to pay for it in the room
Review 30:Classic hotel with elegant inlaid wood interior. Great breakfast
Review 31:No wi fi in room. It was very hot and we had to ask for fans. Took a long time to check in
Review 32:location and decor
Review 33:Very friendly staff! All was perfect!
Review 34:Disappointed that the hotel did nothing to celebrate this important date. Strange decor - a combination of period in some of the public areas and very modern in the room.
Review 35:I wanted to stay at this hotel on 3rd May as it was the date that Sherlock Holmes stayed here (under the name of the Englischer Hof) before he grappled with his arch enemy at the Reichenbach Falls.
Review 36:Everything was great - staff, food, location, ambience, facilities. I couldn't fault this - especially as it gets so busy when tour groups come in... When you enter, you are hit with the history and start looking for your own deer hunter hat... To have stayed in a piece of factual and fictional history on top of all of this is the icing on the cake. :-) I dont know how this has gotten poor ratings (maybe people were expecting Dubai instead).
Review 37:The 'dancing' club area and bar beneath the hotel sadly closed about 2 years ago. Since 2000 the hotel seems to have had 4 owners and the present one is looking to re-open it. It is still advertised on many sites as an open facility but it is definitely not open.
Review 38:I was travelling alone and upon my arrival the receptionist told me that my room had been upgraded. My room was on the 3rd floor at the rear of the hotel. A generous balcony with stunning views toward the Reichenbach Falls. Luxury bathroom with glass sliding door, very comfortable double bed, a desk and chair and a table with 3 chairs plus generous balcony furniture. The hotel is historic in many ways, most of all that Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson stayed the night there before the mysterious death of Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls. The architecture in the main hotel is beautiful, the bedrooms are very modern. Breakfast was a beautifully presented buffet, as much as you could eat. Anything can be taken from the buffet for lunch, they provide a large box, for a small fee. Bar prices are on par with the UK hotel prices. Plenty to see and do around Meiringen. Would recommend getting the cable cars up to Reuti, Bidmi, Magisalp and the Alpen Tower.Really lovely walk down to Meiringen from Magisalp. I love this hotel and was last there in 1982 when I spent almost 2 years working there, so it was a magical return!
Review 39:The hotel advertised itself as open but was minimally operational. Nodinner option, nobody to serve drinks at what looked like a goodcocktail bar. The receptionist said: 'I can't help as I am allalone'.
Review 40:This hotel really needs a renovation. We had two separate beds attachedto each other and there was some space between the mattresses wich isnot a good solution. I asked for a harder pillow but the lady on thereception didn't help although there should be other kinds ofpillows according to the hotel's own guests' guide. After 9 A.M.there were usually no scrumbled eggs left (the only warm food availableat breakfast) and one should wait if somebody will bring some more.
Review 41:Friendly staff, clean, big room, nice reastaurant infront of the hotel.
Review 42:petty details only;pillows flat .some may find decor too antiquated, personally i love this,it is how the hotel presents itself the hotel captures very well the spirit of the Sherlock Holmes era.
Review 43:beautiful building in fabulous historic location; spacious room.friendly and helpful staff.lovely breakfast with everything you could want(can't imagine why some have criticised it in past reviews).
Review 44:paid £20 per night more than friend who booked after me!
