Reviews for Hochelaga Inn

Review 1:Rustic charm and enthusiastic staff. Given a free room upgrade based on availability. Given a tour of the historic suites and tower room. Chief Gordo is eager to please, with personalized service.

Review 2:Price on the premium room would be a consideration in the future.

Review 3:Sebastian was helpful and good humoured. Chief Gordon did a good job getting breakfast for a full house of guests.

Review 4:Not a lover of the egg thing for breakfast. Everything else was good. But none of us ate the egg.

Review 5:The general feel of the Inn. Felt quaint and soecial. Staff was wonderful and friendly!!!

Review 6:The inn is very close to the downtown and to the university. It is located in a very quiet neighbourhood. The staff was friendly and the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable.

Review 7:Poor soundproofing, doors slamming all the time. They should install some door jam cushions or more gentle door closures.

Review 8:Gorgeous building. Lovely property

Review 9:Crazy students outside in Saturday night.

Review 10:Loved the location. The staff were great at breakfast remembering my crazy food intolerances. We ate wonderfully. The room was big and quiet.

Review 11:Aircob was a not loud but, I was not expecting to have air con at all so that was a plus.

Review 12:The building was a beautiful Victorian style house that was awesome to stay in. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was also delicious.

Review 13:Reservation was not as booked on Booking.com. Owner complained about booking.com reservations. We were overcharged for our room. Breakfast both days consisted of some form of balsamic vinegar eggs and was really sub-par.

Review 14:Location and look of the Inn are great. Wonderful grounds and really quaint feel.

Review 15:Great staff, very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious. We loved the historic architecture and atmosphere with beautiful landscaping. You can't beat the location either close to downtown. We will be back!

Review 16:Their parking policy should be clarified on-line. Expected a reserved parking spot throughout my stay, then found out that if you move your car during certain times of the day/night, there may not be a spot when you return.

Review 17:Beautiful B&B, friendly helpful staff. Overall, a fantastic B&B.

Review 18:The rooms were not clean. There were dust on our nightstands and the towels in the bathrooms seemed like they are coming from someone else's house (Old and used so many times and multiple colours)Time to replace them. The breakfast two pancakes with bacon and a fruit salad. Fruit salad was not fresh and it was from a day before. There were not other options or courses in the breakfast. They were only bread and a full jar of jam where you can get a spoon from the big jar. They didn't give an extra toast to a woman sitting next to us. They said they run out of bread. Are you serious? You pay $200 for a room and you cannot get a slice of bread. We have stayed in so many B & B's and Hochelaga Inn was the worst for our money. I would pay half the money for what they are offering.

Review 19:I liked the staff. They were friendly. The property is also very historic and pretty. Nice front yard.

Review 20:The lack of choices for breakfast. They were only serving one thing and if you didn't like that well then you had the usual basics like toast which you had to cook and prepare yourself. I would have liked at least one substitute if you wanted to change a part of the meal. They didn't offer any such thing. For $185 per night including breakfast, I would like to get what I want to eat or at least have a couple more choices and not have to settle for what they cooked.

Review 21:We loved our room, we loved the whole house. The front porch was so great to sit on and enjoy the neighborhood views. The property is well kept and clean. The kitchen served breakfast every morning. Luckily, they had basics like toast, fruit salad and you could choose to eliminate parts of the breakfast dish if you didn't like them. There was fresh coffee and tea served all day at the hot drink station on the 1st floor. There was a nice lounging room that we sat in and read the paper and enjoyed Tea and cookies/Biscuits. The only other thing we didn't like was the stairs. But then most people know this before going there. I particularly had a problem with going up and down to our room each day. But the place is definetely very nice.

Review 22:Noise late at night (outside and on the stairs) and early (people having shower at 6 a.m. - can hear everything). Terrible coffee at breakfast - coffee in room much better Overall property appearance - needs an update. We were here 10 years ago and it does not compare.

Review 23:Staff Garden

Review 24:Lovely room, interesting architecture inside and out, and lovely garden with early mats of colour. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and although I had to miss the breakfast, it smelled delicious, and they offered me a take-out coffee so it was a good start to my long day of travel.

Review 25:This is a beautifully restored and maintained heritage property located near Queen's University and just a short walk from downtown Kingston. The rooms are large, well-furnished and quiet. An excellent cooked breakfast is included in the rate.

Review 26:No elevator to 3rd floor.

Review 27:Breakfasts were excellent. Covered parking was appreciated when it snowed. Larger than we thought - there were 30/40 guests some nights - but handled well.

Review 28:The service was OK, but not excellent. The house was having a renovation process so we were unable to use the living room. The dining room was small and we had to line up and wait for 20 minutes to eat breakfast. If I had known I would have stayed at one of the other bead and breakfast locations in Kingston. No offer of a discount for my inconvenience.

Review 29:Beautiful old house in an excellent location oozing with historical charm.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:We loved that this house was actually a stop on the haunted Kingston tour. Comfy bed, great breakfast and we could walk downtown to dine/ go to the pubs.

Review 32:It fails as a bed and breakfast because the breakfast was the poorest that we had in Canada. No alternative was offered (especially for a vegetarian) as the food was presumably pre-prepared. This made the stay poor value for money.

Review 33:Young lady on duty when we arrived was pleasant and welcoming.

Review 34:Housecleaning uses a product with a very unpleasant, strong, and suffocating smell.

Review 35:The breakfasts are amazing - something different each morning, and so tasty! Staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Review 36:I emailed them to confirm parking and they replied promptly. I also emailed them about my daughter being gluten-free. When we arrived, they not only confirmed I had parked in their car park but offered a parking permit if I had put my car on the street. In addition, they had a post-it note on our reservation about my daughter's special diet and adjusted her breakfast accordingly. And the breakfast was excellent, by the way!!

Review 37:We were guaranteed one of the limited parking spaces during our stay. It seems that the staff uses them during the day so we ended up parking on the street overnight on our last night. Not a huge deal but not what we were expecting.

Review 38:We enjoyed our stay in the turret room. The Inn was very comfortable and surprisingly quiet for an old historic building...nice neighborhood easy walking distance to the waterfront and downtown for dining and shopping.

Review 68:Beautiful B&B. Amazing breakfast. Excellent location. Staff friendly. I will recommend it and we will be back for another visit.

Review 69:The breakfast- a burrito- was very disappointing

Review 70:Our room was very warm and inviting on a damp, chilly November night

Review 71:Very comfortable, nicely decorated room. Free parking evenings and weekend. Very good breakfast.

Review 72:People, Food, location

Review 73:Very pleased they let us have a friend join us for breakfast at a reasonable price.

Review 74:They don't accept the family with children. We didn't know that when booking. But the staffs still welcomed us. We kept quiet as we could, not to bother other guests.
