Reviews for St. Lawrence College Kingston Conference Services
Review 1:It's a college dorm room and mine smelled like a guy from the school's soccer team was in there previously. Had to buy febreeze to take care of the wrank smell of sweat, but once I did it wasn't an issue.
Review 2:The price is great and you get your own dorm room. As long as you realize that, it's a great deal. Relatively clean too.
Review 3:Found it to be noise and night ,the doors would slam shut till the early morning.
Review 4:The value for your money. It was in a good location, and the staff were vary friendly and it was clean.
Review 5:The internet is always disconnecting, so it forces you to reconnect every now and then. The blanket was a little torn but at least it was clean and comforting.
Review 6:The price is really good for what you get. Very comforting room for a solo traveler during the summer.
Review 7:It wasn't the cleanest place - counters were very sticky. I was put in a room at the end of the hall and if I wanted to use wifi I had to go out into the hall. A/C wall unit wasn't very strong.
Review 8:Price was reasonable for a place to sleep. Safe and secure room.
Review 9:The bed in the the double room wasn't that comfortable and it makes a lot of noise when you move around.
Review 10:Staying at the St. Lawrence College residence was a great deal. So much cheaper than a hotel downtown. The room was very spacious and the residence was close to Lake Ontario Park.
Review 11:Very quiet on our corridor - did not hear other guests. It was easy to park and find this location and I liked it being away from the main downtown. The staff were very pleasant.
Review 12:More attention is needed when cleaning the bathroom.
Review 13:We were looking for a clean, basic room, with a kitchen counter and private bathroom, within short driving distance from city centre. This was it, at excellent price.
Review 14:The room and bathroom was kept clean but the walls needed to be painted. The wall over one bed a some unfinished drywall repair job. Wifi was spotty, toilet clogged a couple of times.
Review 15:For a double bed residence, the rooms were large.
Review 16:There was a patch on my sheet.
Review 17:Spacious clean room. Friendly helpful staff. Great location near park not far from water for a lovely walk. Excellent economical place to stay.
Review 18:Wifi is too slow, messager usually drop off line. a little bit far to downtown area.
Review 19:It is clean and nice, worse value of money and above expection overall
Review 20:Could be a little cleaner. But way cleaner than how I remember my own student days.
Review 21:Unique college dorm experience. Neat that is open to the public. Very friendly staff. Our family stayed at the same time many rooms housed young athletes from a national sailing competition. We felt young again sharing the hallways and overhearing their conversations. Full size fridge in room and large counter with sink were very handy.
Review 22:Pretty noisy in the hallways until about 11:00 PM, but was OK after that.
Review 23:10 minute walk to downtown Kingston. Ideal 'no frills' accommodation if you're just looking for a place to sleep. Twin bed rooms come with en suite bathroom.
Review 24:We were told that there is a breakfast included but it was only Kreug machine in the lobby and Staff said we need to hurry cuz it goes fast. So we just went to nearest Tim Hortons
Review 25:Was a good spot for last moment booking
Review 26:Sheet was not cleaned or washed. It stained, stank, and had hair on the sheet. Cannot connect to the wifi after the staff tried to set it on my cell with his greasy hands from eating pizza... Nasty!
Review 27:I like the location and safety of location the most.
Review 28:Short pile rug needed a shampoo. Walls needed painting. Web connection was insecure.
Review 29:Requested a quiet room and SLCR complied as I was sole occupant on the top floor in a wing. Staff further provided a change to a room on the opposite side of the hall to get away from the noisy transformer cooling system located under the window of #470. AC unit was effective and quiet. Bed was firm and comfortable.
Review 30:The bed wasn't comfortable . The other thing was fine! There was no air conditioning
Review 31:staffs were nice and friendly. I am writing this one to be second sentence.
Review 32:the beds were the worst experience ever. the mattresses [2 single beds were so hard and springy that you were almost ready to sleep on the floor couples with a kind of mesh bottom sheet covered with little bumps of material. Cancelled the next 2 nights and my wife called it a holliday from hell. Through off the rest of the 3 day outing and went back home as fast as possible.
Review 33:place was very clean
Review 34:Two twin bed room was freezing at one end and stuffy on the other. Beds were hard and uncomfortable. Fine for young people who want a secure and clean place to stay.
Review 35:Needs TV in room would have made the stay perfect or in the common areas . The booking on the computer not very well explained . A Twin room to me should mean two beds . Had to get room changed on arrival.
Review 36:Good location close to everything.
Review 37:Mattresses are squeaky and uncomfortable. Pillows are unpleasant. Room wasn't cleaned very well.
Review 38:Location convenient to express bus line. Big fridge and large counter. Staff are great! Quick response to a minor maintenance concern.
Review 39:The breakfast option.
Review 40:Breakfast - some bowls, spoons, a jug of milk and some cornflakes or other cereals is simple to do and healthier than Tim Hortons.
Review 41:The only thing that bothered me was the fact that you could only tear off 3-4 pieces of toilet paper at a time.
Review 42:It was just what we needed for an overnight sleep.
Review 43:No breakfast, no TV - there was one in the lobby but too far from the lounge area, sticky floors in our room/ bathroom. I couldn't even relax in our room after a long day of sightseeing and walking. I was hoping to watch TV, but we couldn't do that.
Review 44:Staff was super friendly and free parking.
Review 45:Good price in a clean quiet location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a no fuss room for a night or two, this will do just fine.
Review 46:Upon arrival, we found we needed to have light bulbs replaced and the next morning our shower head fell off. However the staff was helpful and these issues were remedied immediately. Need better pillows, we brought our own per other reader reviews.
Review 47:The reason for my visit was to find a suitable accommodation for my daughter attending university in the area. The price was definitely right, accommodation clean, staff helpful.
Review 48:No microwave. Wifi is slow.
Review 49:Good value for the money. All beds are single size. Refrigerator in room. Only towels and small soap are provided, you need to supply everything else. The beds are simple but comfortable. AC and Heat available. 24 hour checkin. Hot water is plentiful. No breakfast, but the main street in the town has a few choices.
Review 50:Security issues with parking lot.
Review 51:Conveniently located near express bus stop to downtown. Small full-height fridge with freezer was great for storing food, keeping beverages cold and freezing ice-packs for day trips.
Review 52:Bed pillow was very low quality, possibly wrapped in plastic inside the pillowcase. Wifi coverage was spotty inside the room. Needed to sit in the corridor.
Review 53:Good value for money. Staff were professional.
Review 54:The staff were very kind, which counts a lot at the end of the day. Stayed an extra day and hated to leave. No intrusions, no frills, just efficiency and authenticity.
Review 55:We got two single beds so wife and I had to sleep on two separate beds in two corners of the room. The bathroom had paint peeled off, the towel holder is broken, shower curtain is disgusting(not clean at all) Would not really recommend.
Review 56:Price, Location was fairly good. Staff were good.
Review 57:The only problem that I had was the shutoff for the toilet was broken - and there was no maintenance on staff over the weekend to fix the problem! The wall heating unit is clunky while running!
Review 58:Close proximity to event Clean room Staff rounded up a microwave oven for us Like the large counter with sink Quick walk to water's edge
Review 59:Everything. I got a dirty room to start. Then got moved to a cleaner room. Beds were horrible. You can feel the springs through the very thin cloth. The noise echos through the doors.
Review 60:Nothing it was uncomfortable and loud, couldn't sleep at all and I'm a pretty solid sleeper.
Review 61:Finding dry gum on pillow, more pillows, and when there is a tournament its noisy until 3 to 4 am. Had to buy ear plugs.
Review 62:Affordability, location, fridge.
Review 63:1) Well, when we arrived on Friday afternoon, we noticed some big sticky stains on the 'kitchen' counter (cola maybe). Using one of the white facecloths to wipe the surface, I quickly noticed my cloth getting dirtier and dirtier. Wiping the counters and shelves of stains and dust, it was apparent the room had not been properly cleaned. We later bought Lysol wipes and recleaned the surfaces (kitchen, fridge handles, desks, bathroom (everything!)) just to be sure… it was gross. We later noticed the same type of cola stain on the carpet… and of course, we didn’t trust the state of the floors… The linens did look clean though.2) We also had an issue with the toilet - the flapper didn't close properly by itself and so the water would just keep running if we didn't manually close it every time we flushed. I asked a worker to help (he came in to check it, but since he was only there to vacuum the hallway floors, he could only mention the issue to the front desk). The front desk did offer us another room, but at this point – after cleaning the room ourselves – we didn’t want to start over again. I didn’t trust the cleanliness of the other rooms… we’d simply have to live with the toilet issue (I just hope it’ll be fixed before the students move in).I asked if there was any way we could be compensated for the troubles we experienced – since only a manager could give a discount, they would pass on the message…3) Now, knowing there was no TV, and Wi-Fi was free with the room, we brought our tablet in hopes to watch a movie online (and with the weather being rainy and cold, we didn’t stay outdoors too late). Well, the Wi-Fi either kept ‘cutting’ (no signal) or when we tried to watch Netflix or play a few games, we got this message: ‘you require an internet connection to continue’. Hummmm… I thought we had an internet connection. There was no mention of limited access anywhere in the St-Lawrence Wi-Fi agreement.
Review 64:At first, we liked the lower price, and the chance to visit Kingston on a budget... The staff was friendly.
Review 65:Lumpy bed and one thin pillow. Wifi didn't cooperate well with things like email on my iPad.
Review 66:Clean simple room with fridge and large desk. Easy parking. Close to Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.
Review 67:No TV --even in the lounges or lobby. None of the other guests had any natural materials in any of their clothes.
Review 68:Price Private bathroom Quiet Parking Clean
Review 69:No number on your website for each individual campus just a generic nbr which after 4p nobody answers we all can't call before 4p also we arrived at approx 1030p on Friday 15 one person working cork weekend should of had 2 people on it took us approx half an hr to check in the poor guy on the desk was worked to death plus your computer system crashed we were really close to leaving even though we had reservations anyway this is going to help us hopefully the next people that stay there will have a better experience also the beds are nof comforfable at all I really pity the poor students that have to stay there for months
Review 70:I didn't like that full details of the rooms amenities was not provided along with confirmation. Also, when my daughter did arrive, the person checking her in hassled her about her reservation being paid and thankfully I provided all the reservation details so my daughter could avoid this being an issue.
Review 71:The individual who helped me with my reservation was excellent. Since my daughter was travelling with another family and staying in a room on her own, this person was very helpful ensuring my payment was taken before she arrived so she didn't have to deal with it upon arrival. Also, she ensured the my daughter was staying on the same floor as the family she was travelling with. I received an email from her with all the details of the reservation.
Review 72:Gap in door let light and sound in so noisy guests kept me awake some nights. Would be helpful if laundry room or reception had detergent for sale, e.g. small boxes good for one wash. Extra blanket would be helpful because some nights I was cold even though the room air con was off.
Review 73:Free wi-fi, free parking, good location, cheap, clean and large room
Review 74:The internet requires you to click 'accept' every 5 minutes or so and works poorly on an iPhone. Laptop worked much better but still required you 'accept' frequently.
Review 75:Excellent staff! The young guy at reception (sorry did not get his name) was fantastic. Very helpful and friendly. Our air con was not working once and he had it resolved right away. Even helped point us to a great website for apartment hunting. We walked everywhere so the location and free parking were excellent. There's a fantastic pub a short walk down the street 'Portsmouth Tavern' great food and nice staff. The large fridge was a definite bonus and we brought a kettle with us and some plates/cutlery so we were quite comfortable. Just keep in mind it is off season student housing so bring your own kitchen stuff and bedding for comfort and you will have a great time. We even had breakfast at the campus cafeteria once and can't complain. Would stay here again for sure!
Review 76:Wifi was on and off and the connection was poor from the room. The walls are really thin, you can easily hear people talking from the other rooms (for me, it was a baby crying non stop the whole evening). If you're a light sleeper, be sure to bring ear plugs!
Review 77:Great place to stay at if you're only looking for a room to sleep at night. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The AC was working fine, which is great in the summer! The bathroom was clean as well, towels etc. provided! Great value for money. The location isn't far at all from downtown Kingston (if you're driving). It's a short 4 minutes drive.
Review 78:The overall cleanliness was disappointing (i.e., dirty floors, carpeting, walls, windows). The drapes and sheets were tattered and torn, and the shower door was off its track resulting in my having to stand in one corner of the shower stall so that water wouldn't spray all over the floor.
Review 79:For under $50/night, I had a comfortable bed to sleep on, washroom facilities, running water, electricity, and internet access. I appreciated the security of my safety in accessing the building and the dorm floor, as well as my car in the parking lot. Suggestion: Ensure that visitors know about the 'common room' -- I happened to notice it on my 3rd day there and could have used it to make myself a cup of tea and toast etc. Or to simply watch tv or lounge around reading a book. Also, others may not be aware that these accommodations are very basic and they need to supply their own personal supplies such as hangers, iron, hair dryer, etc. I anticipated that the towels, soap, shampoo, etc. would not be supplied and brought my own.
Review 80:We were beside the machine room and I heard noises all night.
Review 81:I liked the size and layout of the room as well as the cleanliness of the room. The staff was very attentive and helpful too!
Review 82:Best value in town. Simple doorm rooms but a bus station directly attached to the facility that brings you downtown in 10 minutes. If you are looking for a place to crash a night or two that's the place to go. Simple but clean.
Review 83:No address on street! Know it's a student residence, but more attention should be taken to enhance your stay. No controllers for TV"s cause students lost them! sign some new one's out if you have too. A list of channels available would also be nice. May these were all available but front desk attendant too busy on face book!!!!!
Review 84:Price
Review 85:Due to an emergency with our dog, we had to cancel our reservation. The staff were very friendly, helpful and understanding. Will still try to stay there in the future.
Review 86:No double beds elevator was not working, and we were on the 4th floor could not get us one closer and i have a bad knee very painful climb for the price i would stay in a hotel the next time.
Review 87:It would be nice to have a coffee vending machine close by or maybe a kettle and a cup in the room.
Review 88:Convenient, very helpful staff, clean room - actually pretty much everything. I usually stay at least twice a year on my way back from Toronto and the value for the money cannot be beat!
Review 89:Forgot there was no radio or TV. This is not so bad but this can make for a long evening if you are not going out and not prepared. A good time to catch up on reading.
Review 90:The convenience of the location was good. It was a quiet place and well kept. Having the Ontario Park right across the road was nice and gave a place to unwind or just ramble around.
Review 91:The sheets felt like they were waxy from not being washed
Review 92:It's inexpensive and if you're just looking for a place to lay your head at the end of a long day it's fine.
Review 93:The small basic bed and mattress was uncomfortable, no TV or microwave in the room. I had to go up 2 floors to use a microwave to heat my food or microwave water for a coffee. The bathroom had a steel door and the whole room felt like I was in prison. The sheets were scratchy and the mattress was not comfortable at all. I've stayed at many residences throughout Ontario and this stay was a disappointment. I won't be staying there again.
Review 94:I liked the location and the staff was very nice.
Review 95:Elevator not working and we were on 4th floor. No advance notice my husband has bad knees and we had all our luggage and a cooler to bring to room. No help up the stairs. Room not very clean . We left early.
Review 96:Staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 97:The reception is a little hard to find.
Review 98:If you never stay in a college residence it's your chance to know how it is. Quiet with shared living room to watch TV on each floor. The room is not large (it's for student) but all included in the same room including shower room with the toilet, a fridge with a big counter and a big desk unit to write your journal at the end of the day.
Review 99:I should have asked for an extra pillow! I was told to call the desk with any requests, and I could have done so, but I didn't . Very nice people working at St. Lawrence.
Review 100:The value for my money, peace and quiet, and the air conditioning . Thank-you.
Review 101:Room a bit to small
Review 102:The place is quiet and easy to find.
Review 103:The beds were AWFUL. Squeaky, couldn't even sleep. :(
Review 104:Great staff and location.
Review 105:Beds separated
Review 106:Clean and spacious room, fair price
Review 107:Small room
Review 108:Close to Portsmouth Harbor
Review 109:1)wifi wouldn't connect 2)Bed spreads were not clean 3)cannot use phone for outside calls
Review 110:Friendly staff
Review 111:Very very noisy bed, I can sleep with light and noisy almost everywhere, but with this kind of mattress is completely impossible.
