Reviews for The Queen's Inn

Review 1:For the money paid I could get a far nicer room elsewhere and still in the downtown core. The bathroom was abysmal. The decor was old and tired. It is fine if the room is $90 but not at $139.

Review 2:Location is great. Love the historical value.

Review 3:Continental breakfast was lacking. Only food available was toast. Layout of the bathroom was a bit awkward.

Review 4:Excellent value for the money. Free high speed internet that was very fast. Close to all downtown amenities.

Review 5:No coffee in room. 3rd floor walk-up not especially cool with bags to haul upstairs.

Review 6:Staff were nice and helpful. Good wifi. Comfy beds. Pillows okay. Location excellent.

Review 7:If you are elderly or have a lot of luggage, there was no lift. Staff offered to help me but I know that if I travel with a large bag, I have to be able to move it myself!!

Review 8:Loved the burger in the cafe for dinner AND loved the fact they had proper crockery and cutlery in the breakfast room. First place in about 10 days who did not serve food on paper plates and cups. Very helpful staff.

Review 9:Breakfast was a bit limited. Just toast. No cereal or fruit.

Review 10:Location. Within walking distance of the downtown area. Historic building. Friendly staff.

Review 11:I wish the breakfast was a little more diverse... The hotel offered toasts with jam and butter, orange juice, coffee and tea, and that sounds better than nothing but I wish they could add something else (more food, we want more food! :))

Review 12:Staff was very friendly, the room was clean and nice. The TV worked, there was soap and shampoo - they fulfilled all their promises for sure :-)

Review 13:There was insufficient air conditioning. Fortunately a staff member was able to find us a fan to distribute some cool air to make the room comfortable.

Review 14:The location was excellent. The historical look of the place was interesting. The staff was helpful.

Review 15:The only downside of the hotel is that the rooms are small and noisy but it's to be expected from a hotel built in the 1800's.

Review 16:The location couldn't be better and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly! For the money it couldn't be better.

Review 17:The breakfast is too simple, toast, juice and coffee or tea,

Review 18:Staff is very friendly, the young one is very handsomethe, old one is a gentleman, facility is enough for tourist, but maybe a little bit small for big sized people.

Review 19:The rooms are quite small. We were on the third floor and the bed itself was a nice size but the bathroom was very very small. You sat down on the toilet and you could wash your hands at the same time. For us that was no issue but it was funny to see.

Review 20:The hotel was nice and clean. Located in a very central area of Kingston. There is no parking for the hotel but there is a city parking lot right next door which costs $9 a day. Aside from that everything else is within walking distance. Overall this hotel was good for the price and location. I would come back.

Review 21:Didn't deserve the money I spent. The breakfast consisted of only toast with peanut butter or jelly and coffee. The window was stuck. The towels and the bathroom in general did not look clean.

Review 22:The location was really convenient.

Review 23:The location is the very best one can get for the price. The staff was friendly and helpful. The meals were delicious, well proportioned and fairly priced. We plan on returning again and again!

Review 24:No fridge in the room, no coffee maker. Pillows old, not comfortable. Constant AC in a room, cold air all the time. You can hear your neibours, every step and every little noise

Review 25:Very close to downtown and so many other attractions, shops, restaurants, Harborfront, bus stop

Review 26:bed not that comfortable..noisy room over the patio bar...wee hours of morning people speaking loudly.. could buy a breakfast on Mondays???

Review 27:close to Kingston centre.. everything within walking distance

Review 28:Air conditioning in hallway but not in room, queen size bed but we're told on booking it was a king size. Very small cramped room with low ceilings.

Review 29:We were told that breakfast is available until 10 am. When we went there at 9.35 am, everything was gone and the other employee at the reception just told us: "No, breakfast is only until 9.30." No apology, no offer for something to eat. Also, the room was extremely small and uncomfortable, even for two people who are thin and usually do not mind smaller rooms.

Review 30:Mattresses were great, but the pillows were awful. Soundproofing on the rooms ain't so hot. Pretty sure individual rooms don't have a temperature control.

Review 31:Great location, cute hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Got value for the price.

Review 32:Extremely small rooms No ac on the 3rd floor There were cobwebs andspiders in every corner!. Buy a swiffer!

Review 33:Great location Within walking distance to everything we wanted to seeParking was reasonable at $22 for 2 days.

Review 34:Had read in reviews that room was not well insulated against sound. I could hear people in hallway walking and talking as if there was no wall at all.

Review 35:Smack in the middle of downtown Kingston. Parking garage right next door, affordable rates (I went on a holiday weekend and was worried about where to park). Room was tiny but that was fine.

Review 36:Woken up at 5 am from banging at the dollar store right behind it. Staff didn't care when told. He said 'oh ya you were ground central' like it was a joke. Room was the size of a closet. Bed was very small. Could wash your hands while Sitting on the toilet it was so small. No breakfast in the morning when told there would be and when asked if we could get coffee we were told he was working on it for 30 mins and still nothing. There is No parking. Must pay in the parking garage next door. Trying to use my phone I kept Getting kicked off the wifi and so did my friend. Staff were mostly Polite but not helpful whatsoever. Was given my key and not told about the facilities or area whatsoever and waved off to my room. Was very disappointed by our stay here. Will not be returning. Left feeling exhausted!!

Review 37:Location was convenient to downtown.

Review 38:Rooms are pretty small and the air conditioning is weak. Breakfast is just toast.

Review 39:Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, very clean. I thought it was a great value.

Review 40:Room was EXTREMELY stuffy. Very warm. Wanted to open windows but no screens. 1/4 of a bottle of shampoo in the bathroom - had to go in search of more. WiFi was terrible!

Review 41:Location to water front. History of building

Review 42:couldn't control air cond. in each room. room so tiny I couldn't turn around . no room for luggage. staff very unhelpful and didn't smile.

Review 43:location

Review 44:Nothing bad to say. Checked in, room was clean. Staff were helpful. Paid a fair price.

Review 45:Location, Location, Location. Downtown and waterfront all within walking distance. Best value hotel if all you need is a place to lay your head. Do your research. One of the oldest hotels in Kingston so its not luxury. Creaky floors, narrow doors, small rooms. Know this going in and its a great place.

Review 46:The worst and most uncomfortable bed I've ever "slept" in. Wifi was worthless on the third floor and very hot in the summer. Barely any air conditioning.

Review 47:Great location and loved the bar and bar staff. Very helpful in a new country and kept bringing us drinks!

Review 48:The room was too small. Felt like we were in the attic. Find the lavatory in the bathroom was not draining well.

Review 49:Location is great. Staff are helpful. Room clean.

Review 50:Be warned there is no free parking

Review 51:Loved the location, it's quite close to the water and the old part town. It's an interesting, historic building. The hotel is a pretty good deal altogether

Review 52:The location was very good, it was a short walk, approximately 3 blocks, to the waterfront. The hotel was quaint with lots of character. There was a light breakfast included, which we weren't expecting!

Review 53:The only thing was the parking... or lack of. Using public city owed parking lots was not ideal.

Review 54:The location was great in beautiful downtown Kingston and the food was amazing. 2 bars and cozy feel was wonderful.

Review 55:Bathroom was small, cramped shower stall, weekend breakfast started too late for us. One of us had a 9am conference so had to be out and about early.

Review 56:Ambiance of former era, lunch food was very good, terrace nice for people watching or writing a poem, convenient location, easy parking next door, free wifi.

Review 57:They do not offer breakfast, but it is not a big deal!

Review 58:I absolutely come back! It was one of the best hotels. Was very clean, comfortable big beds, walking distance from thousand islands, very helpful friendly staffs.

Review 59:No hook on bathroom door though there had been one, would have been useful. IExpected a tub but may have forgotten there wouldn't be one. If I were to book again would not choose the "upgrade" as that meant no tub and learned the upgrade room was actually smaller. Had forgotten why I didn't choose it in the first place I guess. Could have used instructions for tv as I am not technical and first night couldn't get it to work. Didn't need tv though and second night figured it out. Hard to manhandle luggage without an elevator but deliberately chose character over modern conveniences so expected that, and staff offered to carry my bags if I wanted.

Review 60:Small, funky, not impersonally modern and without character. Wonderful beds, extremely clean, friendly staff. Food on premises not available much as restaurant was closed but did get free tea and coffee and woman who ok's it was very friendly. Location fabulous. Price cheaper than mosts others. Yes bathrooms were small but I expected that from other reviews and thought it more funny than otherwise. It was so quiet I thought we were the only guests but apparently the hotel was full. That had been my biggest gamble, thought perhaps it would be uncomfortably noisy, particularly with a bar in the basement.

Review 61:I asked the staff when I booked if they had air conditioning and was told yes /central air. It was so hot in the room I We could not even sleep!!!! No coffee machine or fridge.

Review 62:The Staff were excellent. Location good.

Review 63:No parking, Have to use pay parking next door or meters. The room was on for about $100/night but extremely small. (10' x 10').

Review 64:Location and old limestone wall.

Review 65:Both times I've stayed here I've had difficulty connecting to wifi.

Review 66:Location is fantastic with parking garage right next door and a few steps away from shopping district on Princess st.

Review 67:I dod not like the lack of parking or the local pub goers who exited when the doors closed for the ebenong.

Review 68:The character of this Inn was quite charming.

Review 69:VERY thin walls, we could hear our neighbours talking and coughing all night, even though they were not being particularly loud. We were three adults sharing a room, and the beds -- which were queen-sized -- were a little too snug for two. Breakfast was not included in the price of the room, though it was available for purchase. Parking was not included in the price of the room, but the Inn was next door to a reasonably-priced public parking garage.

Review 70:Good value for money, particularly if you are more than two people sharing a room. Simple, clean amenities -- nothing fancy, but you don't need more.

Review 71:The room was a wee bit on the small side, so there wasn't room for a little fridge or microwave. The bathroom had a shower but no tub. All in all, nothing to really complain about.

Review 72:Can't beat the location - and the pubs too - there are so many! Even though there are a couple pubs downstairs, there was no noise. We slept well and the bed was reasonably comfortable.

Review 73:Having a coffee in the morning would have been really nice. Shower stall was quite small. Room was quite cool at times, but was tended to upon request. Use of elevator would have been more convenient.

Review 74:It was a convenient walk to Queen's University, for our Open House. Staff were very informative re: giving directions.

Review 75:Room was a little chilly and we couldn't adjust temperature because the inn is centrally heated. Asked for a space heater but they don't have any. Wifi was really slow.

Review 76:Bed was very comfortable. Great location within walking distance of many great restaurants. Nice little pub attached to the inn.

Review 77:The small room was adequate for our one-night stay. Because we didn't spend much time in the hotel, it met our needs as a convenient spot to rest after a long day out and about. We had to pay for parking, but it wasn't much (roughly $5 for the afternoon and overnight).

Review 78:Considering the hotel is centrally located, the cost was very good deal. The service was fine, and we had no trouble checking in or out. The room was small, but for our purposes (a day trip spent wandering the city) it was all we needed.

Review 79:Could not connect to the wifi on either of our devices. Checkout is also a little too early :(

Review 80:Room was clean, additional requests were met. Surprisingly large bathroom for such a small room.

Review 81:The door to the room (very small) did not lock and could be opened with a hard push. A drunk and very loud couple arrived at 2:45 AM and woke everyone. We could hear her vomiting at 7:30 AM. NO soundproofing or security at all.

Review 82:The staff were kind and gave us a partial refund when we complained

Review 83:A bit noisy due to small size and proximity of other rooms. but it was ok. Tiny rooms but price was good.

Review 84:Location. Had pub on premises so food was nearby; restaurants and shops nearby (walking distance)

Review 85:The staff were very friendly, and the rooms were charming and clean. The hotel is in the city centre, and the easy walk to the local pubs and restaurants made our stay a lot of fun!

Review 86:VERY thin walls - it's an old building so this is unavoidable - it'll just be luck of the draw if you wind up with neighbours who stay up much later (and louder) than you... Rooms are also very small.

Review 87:The place is charming, staff are helpful and overall our stay was pleasant. Great location, probably the best low-cost option in downtown Kingston.

Review 88:No pool or sauna.

Review 89:Great central location. The room is a bit small, however the bed was very comfortable. We were on the 3rd floor and it was a quiet room. A small breakfast included.

Review 90:The room was a bit small, with no closets, but there were plenty of hooks.

Review 91:The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. Also, the in was easily within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The cost of parking was very, very low. 21 dollars for two days. Quaint inn in the middle of the historic district.

Review 92:No option to change rooms and we had a noisy heating unit outside our window. WiFi had VERY poor connectivity. Lobby staff (one man in particular) not super friendly - no greetings when we came and went. No elevator.

Review 93:Location, pub services, price good, fantastic ambiance and old Kingston feel.

Review 94:On the first night, neighbours were very noisy. Careful - a double room at this hotel is a room with one double bed.

Review 95:Location, rooms were fantastic. Staff re-arragned for us to have a room with 2 beds, which was great.

Review 96:Very relaxing atmosphere, excellent bed! Cozy pub with a great pool table. Loved the Jack Daniels wings...tasty and very meaty. The staff was both friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 97:Wifi inoperability was a big negative. Breakfast was weak - toast & coffee. The rest was reflective of the cheap price.

Review 98:Price was attractive. Location was good.

Review 99:The uneven sloping floor in my room was a little un-nerving and I felt like I was always heading downhill towards the windows.

Review 100:Location is the best - the hotel had that real historic feeling to it and is perfect for someone would wanted to walk everywhere. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Would stay here again.

Review 101:no parking (I was motorcycle touring & the owner told me in the morning he would have parked me in the back but the night staff told me to use the municipal building next door) -room phone was "busy" all evening so couldn't call home - there was a big 3 bucket water leak in the lobby - mini breakfast had no fruit/ eggs/granola etc.

Review 102:location price/value older building w/ character

Review 103:I booked a double room. When confirming my reservation with the hotel, I was informed a double room is a room with one double bed, which meant I was forced to rent a second room for my friend. Make sure you know how many beds you're getting when you book!

Review 104:The hotel is clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff is helfpul. The hotel is pretty much at the epicentre of downtown.

Review 105:We loved the friendly staff! Loved the quaintness of the Inn.The sports bar was great, the Aunt loved being able to wear the Queens helmet that was at the bar. Everything we needed was within walking distance from the Inn. Beautiful city that we will be returning for a yearly visit to take in a Gaels game. Next time staying longer but definitely staying here!!!

Review 106:Room was a smaller than expected. With two suitcases not much room to move around. Ok for just two nights.

Review 107:Location to the waterfront was excellent. The pub downstairs had good basic food. Staff were helpful and room was clean.

Review 108:Very hot, and this was a cool night in fall! You must air condition the rooms. Bathroom very cramped for a large person.

Review 109:Clean room and comfortable bed. Good TV selection.

Review 110:Hearing the neighbours and lack of free parking ...but the building is old and I expected the hearing everything through the walls.

Review 111:Friendly, accommodating staff; cute room; fantastic location and price. The bed was great.

Review 112:Steep stairs may be a problem with big suitcases or difficulties in climbing stairs

Review 113:Perfect location, very good wifi very comfortable beds good continental breakfast included in the price very good value for money

Review 114:Room was at the back of the Inn and a/c unit for the Inn was outside my window. Could sit on the toilet and wash in the sink at the same time. I could just move around in the shower. If I had been heavier, I wouldn't have fit in it. No elevator.

Review 115:Location was great. Just a short walk to just about everything.

Review 116:Rooms are a bit snug, but then that is to be expected with an older building that has been restored (and very well done too), so it isn't really a complaint - just a warning that the rooms are not overly large, but do have character.

Review 117:The location is fantastic - right within walking distance of everything you will need. The adjoining Pub serves very good food all day, and above all the staff are witthout exception very friendly and welcoming. You will not find better.

Review 118:If you have mobility issues forget Queens Inn. Third floor room (the only one left of 17) was only accessable by steep stairs. There is no elevator. Parking is at extra cost in a nearby municiple lot.

Review 119:Room was clean Help was polite and helpful Location downtown excellent This is an historic building

Review 120:As an older couple, a room on the third floor and no elevator is inconvenient. Will request second floor next time.

Review 121:Queen's Inn is a very old (1839) establishment located within walking distance of downtown Kingston, Ontario. We parked on Thursday and didn't need wheels until leaving Sunday! Comfortable beds, quite restaurant with outdoor patio and a sports bar! We will be back.

Review 122:The room was incredibly small for the price - when you pulled out the desk chair, it hit the bed and the bed was only a double, not a queen. Due to the age and construction of the building, the substantial noise from the hallway reverberated and disturbed our sleep. I didn't feel the true size of the room was represented in the ads. No closet, coffee maker or iron in the room and the bathroom window had no privacy frosting and gave a full view of the toilet. I had to pin the curtains together so that they remained closed.

Review 123:The location was good for easy walking to sites, the desk staff pleasant and the room was clean.

Review 124:Owner does not seem to be a good manager. Staff were friendly, but the owner does not run the place like a professional.

Review 125:Location Some people complain about the size of the rooms. They are small but nothing wrong with them. It is an old building, small rooms are the norm in such places.

Review 126:There was no air conditioning and no screens on the windows that opened which was nice, but lots of midges outside so we couldn't take advantage of the cool night air. The breakfast room was filthy when we came down with not one open area to sit because thee previous diners tables hadn't been cleared.

Review 127:It is an historic building close to wonderful restaurants and the water. bed was comfy.

Review 128:The shower stall and bathroom are very small and would not be suitable for a large person. The walls are thin and would not be suitable for a light sleeper.

Review 129:The Queen's Inn is within walking distance of so many things. We parked the truck for 3 days and walked everywhere. It is very convenient to have food and drinks on location. The room was clean and the staff is friendly.

Review 130:Not the greatest sound insulation and the linens were old and not well cleaned. Had some confusion with the online booking and ended up paying more than quoted.

Review 131:It is centrally located, close to downtown restaurants, bars, shops, etc. Convenient for a quick trip.

Review 132:The bathroom was small, but it's ok. The beds were small. No elevator, no view - our room was rather dark. But it didn't matter so much, because we were out most of the time.

Review 133:Perfect location - close to good restaurants and the lake shore. It's not so far from the Queen's campus either. The wireless internet connection works well and the air-con was helpful on a hot summer night.

Review 134:No parking and very hard to find parking. Toilet in the room we stayed in on the 3rd floor was on a slant. Crüe from out window was terrible. Construction going on everywhere.

Review 135:Close to downtown

Review 136:top corner room was quite hot and humid. Didn't appear the air conditioning was working. But other than that the stay was great!

Review 137:Excellent location and liked the breakfast and pub.

Review 138:There was no parking available so we parked in a parking garage. But it was right next door and not expensive. Breakfast was included but it was just toast. It would be nice to have cereal and muffins as an option. There is no elevator that I saw so people should be aware of that if they have physical limitations or a lot of baggage. There is no air conditioning and the fan in our room was making a clunking noise so we didn't use it.

Review 139:The location to downtown was great. Staff were friendly. The room was small but clean and comfortable.

Review 140:It is an extremely clean hotel and the cleaning staff does a very good job. The staff all are friendly and helpful and provide and the hotel provides excellent value for the dollar. The location is very close to downtown and to Lake Ontario. I have stayed there several times and hope to stay many more.

Review 141:I had room on the third floor, and while it was air conditioned, the acwasn't strong enough to combat the amount of heat on a hot sunnyday. I was provided a fan for help though.

Review 142:Can't beat the location! Nice pub downstairs. Friendly and helpfulstaff. Beautiful old building makes you feel like you're in Europe.
