Reviews for Best Western Fireside Inn
Review 1:Tiny bathroom, door barely missed the toilet bowl. Top step on 2nd floor is taller than the rest, presenting a real hazard/annoyance. Food was only acceptable. Shows its age. Fireplace timer is noisy, as is the fridge. Very soft mattress in the Queen.
Review 2:Quaint decor; quiet.
Review 3:There was this drizzling water sound coming from the ceiling all night, didn't happen during the day. It wasn't that loud just had the same effect that a dripping tap has as you are trying to fall asleep. In saying that it's nice that, that was our only complaint!
Review 4:The room we stayed in was was very cozy, and clean. We will definitely stay there again.
Review 5:The breakfast muffins and breads are always stale. The keycards have to be replaced more than twice at each stay for some reason and was a problem when trying to get in the side door in the rain. Staff members are not all on same page with their answers.
Review 6:We stay here often, and feel at home and safe here.
Review 7:The room was a bit musty but I realize this is due to the jacuzzi.
Review 8:My son liked the spaciousness and the fact that he could sit in the jacuzzi and watch tv. I liked the fireplace and huge 4 post bed. The buffet breakfast was also nice.
Review 9:Tom's Place - interesting eccentric pub atmosphere with real wood-burning fireplace, comfortable wing chairs, a lot of crazy taxidermy (including a huge moosehead over the fireplace), friendly staff and pretty good standard pub fare... Gas fireplace in the room, comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Very clean. Very good value buffet breakfast starting at 6.30 am with free newspapers got us off to a rolling start.
Review 10:Hotel needs refurbishment & therefore is hard to keep clean - it was clean but all carpets need replacement
Review 11:Great hotel, fabulous staff, good restaurants
Review 12:Some of the furniture (e.g., love seat in the room) was low and older, so not as comfortable.
Review 13:The room was very clean, with little extra touches for comfort. A ceiling shower head was great for taller people! Parking for the room was convenient.
Review 14:There was absolutely nothing to watch on the television. No pay per view capability. Would have liked to curl up on the bed on a fall day and watch a good movie.
Review 15:Friendly service. Convenient location. Comfortable rooms.
Review 16:On check-out I was charged a higher rate for one day and was told due to vacancies which I couldn't understand as I had pre-booked a month before and was not told of a higher rate. Check rates charged when signing in so you're not surprised.
Review 17:Rooms were clean and comfortable. A bit dated but who cares you're only sleeping there. Included full breakfast each morning a nice surprise
Review 18:Our ground floor room had view of staff smoking area and rubbish bins!
Review 19:Helpful, friendly staff. Good comfort in room. Fabulous breakfast included in tariff.
Review 20:My husband & I loved everything about the Fireside Inn!!! The jacuzzi room was amazing! The staff at both the hotel & at Tom's were extremely helpful & very friendly! We will definitely come back & we look forward to staying in one of the awesome fantasy suites
Review 21:The hotel doesn t have informations about tourism or a good map of the city.
Review 22:We have stayed for 2 days in the hotel. The room is clear and confortable. The breakfast is good. The hotel has 2 cert nice restaurants
Review 23:It has a lovely, quaint setting. Very clean. Wish we had taken advantage of the dinner in the restaurant. Enjoyed breakfast and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful there.
Review 24:Wasn't an "experience" but found the bathroom was nicely appointed but small/cramped with no place toiletries.
Review 25:Dog friendly, staff was exceptional, quiet, clean, attractive room with fireplace. Amazing breakfast selection.
Review 26:Nothing to not like
Review 27:The staff were pleasant & friendly. Room was lovely, clean and a good size. Quite a way from the lake but easy to park the car. The business centre was good for us to print off boarding passes for flight home
Review 28:Only downside was the lack of lifts to access the 2nd floor, which made getting cases up and back down at either end of the stay a bit of work.. but that's a minor quibble only
Review 29:Fabulous staff, great bar & food options, good, spacious and clean rooms. Really, really nice place to stay
Review 30:Staff were very nice. Great breakfast in the morning and we enjoyed the outdoor pool. It was nice that the bar/restaurant took good care of everyone poolside.
Review 31:Staff were pleasant but perhaps were new - unfamiliar with computer system.
Review 32:The rooms and entire property felt like being in a English country Inn. Very comfortable.
Review 33:Even though the room was clean it needs a bit updating. The hotel must be old, you could hear your neighbors talk, hear the tv and the showers.
Review 34:The staff was great, the restaurant was good, the breakfast was one of the best inclusive ones we had in a month travelling.
Review 35:Pool was not balanced. So i got a little itchy. I know this because i have a pool at home.
Review 36:The counter staff were incredible. I believe it was her first day but was awesome.
Review 37:Not a big thing ,but no elevator. But only one floor up. could be a problem for some people.
Review 38:The atmosphere , had a little bit of European touch to it. Good restaurant. Met Hailey who works there. very congenial.
Review 39:extremely dirty toilet, black mold growing on tiles in bathroom, large crack in bathroom sink, crown moulding pulling away from ceiling and wall, lots of thick, long strands of dust hanging down from popcorn ceilings above air conditioner, rusty door hinges in bathroom, banged/dented/distressed furnishings. Photos taken to back all of this up. Complaint registered to front desk on checkout
Review 40:Shower head in bathroom, front desk staff
Review 41:The only frustration was the air conditioner kept us awake both nights (it was too hot to use windows)... it was very noisy. They need to find a way to put it outside.
Review 42:The lady who brought our breakfast was very friendly. The receptionist also was very friendly. We liked the location and would've liked to have had the opportunity to use the pool and/or eat in the restaurant but we were busy elsewhere. Maybe next time!
Review 43:Due to attendance of wedding and reception wasn't able to take advantage of pool
Review 44:Breakfast included, we were given 2 coupons and there was 3 of us in the room, asked at reception for another coupon and the did without hesitation. Location was perfect for wedding and reception.
Review 45:Very busy decor and wonder how often it all gets cleaned
Review 46:Cleanliness, promptness of booking, etc. getting my charger back after leaving after several hours!
Review 47:The best memory we'll have was the total sincerity, friendliness and sheer helpfulness of all the staff. We really felt quite special at the Fireside Inn.
Review 48:I don't think I have ever stayed in a hotel where absolutely every employee was so friendly and cheerful, and went so out of their way to be helpful. The room was beautiful and the beds super comfortable. The included breakfast was superb.
Review 49:We had a king size bed but I believe the mattress is due to be changed. It was way too soft. My back and legs ached for 2 days afterwards.
Review 50:Staff were great and the food was above average. Great location too and the pool was private and nicely gardened
Review 51:Nothing complain about it.
Review 52:Well the Wi-fi was excellent, the location is accessible to everywhere, the Stuff at Front desk very friendly that is important.
Review 53:Décor like 1982 and knotty pine had a baby and it was a hotel. There was road construction in front (granted they have no control over this). And if there was an elevator, I wasn't aware of one and hauled my bags up the stairs by hand. Wifi was SUPER slow.
Review 54:The staff were excellent. Ample parking. Breakfast was great!
Review 55:Not within walking distance to downtown and waterfront. But knew that when I booked
Review 56:Poolside service was excellent and area was very private, beautiful landscape and well maintained. Staff was helpful and friendly and food was very good. Room was cozy yet spacious and very clean. Would recommend.. :)
Review 57:Large stain on the carpet in the room.
Review 58:Excellent breakfast. Easy drive to the University that we were visiting and access to downtown. Very quiet for sleeping.
Review 59:Nothing
Review 60:Choice of Dining, and a great place to relax by the heated pool. Staff full of information and made us so welcome. Pleasant easy go easy feel about the place. Good honest hostelry feel. 10 minute cab ride to centre.
Review 61:Pillows, breakfast could go a little later. If checkout is 12:00 breKfat should go to at least 11
Review 62:Bed was comfy, wifi worked good, breakfast was good, staff very freindly and helpful.
Review 63:If your getting there late you may have to park on the other side of the building. Rooms are a little bit dated and the AC is too loud to sleep (I just turned it off)
Review 64:Free breakfast Prime Rib dinners Free fast Wifi Couch and desk in my room were a bonus for working at my room.
Review 65:Not exactly a bad experience but service in the restaurant was a bit slow. When we were first seated it took over five minutes before any server noticed we were there--- much too long in my view.
Review 66:It is a nice friendly hotel. Check in/out staff were excellent and most helpful.
Review 67:Hallways are narrow and found hall and lounge a little warm for my taste.
Review 68:The rooms were clean and comfortable. Spent the evening in Tom's Lounge and LOVED the atmosphere and big arm chairs to sit in. Staff were wonderful!
Review 69:Check in was quick and front desk staff friendly. Room was comfortable. Breakfast that was included with our room was above what I expected. Restaurant staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Review 70:The staff was like a big caring family. Very accommodating in every request. Great breakfast and neat atmosphere in the pub. Very homey rooms. 14 of us stayed here and thought it was great
Review 71:The King size bed was very comfy but was so high I needed step up on the bedframe hanging on to the bedpost to get into bed! There should be a step up for people less than 6' tall! Bathroom was small with no counter space and towels were rough and scratchy.
Review 72:Great location. Staff very friendly and service was prompt. Good breakfast.
Review 73:Our rooms were spacious and clean. The staff members at the reception and Tom's Bar were excellent....friendly, helpful and ever so pleasant. The hotel manager even gave us a tour of the three fantasy suites.
Review 74:The decore was very pleasant and the service was always prompt and friendly. Breakfast buffet was perfect and restaurants offered a very nice setting with a reasonable price.
Review 75:Location is not within walking distance to down town. The fireplace does not give off heat and shuts off automatically. Minor issues but generally a very nice stay.
Review 76:The restaurants, bar in the hotel and their rooms. Everything right there and friendly staff. The free buffet breakfast was a nice bonus and free parking.
Review 77:Hotel was old and needs renovation badly. Queen size bed is more of a double bed size. Walls seems to be made of card board cos you can hear everything. In overall it was not a pleasant stay especially for that price.
Review 78:Nice ambiance in the room, however it was too warm for me,even after switching off the heater and not lighting the fire place at all. Every time someone got to go to the bathroom you heard the toilet flush and water running. The walls are paper thin and can hear the next rooms tv. I went for Dinner at the Tom’s restaurant after around 8pm, front of the restaurant was occupied, not busy as dinner was already served, I was told that there are tables at the back, I was not taken to my table , there were only 2 people at the bar , three servers were in attendance. I waited over 15 minutes , not a single waitress came to speak to me , after waiting over 15 minutes I went to the front of the restaurant and informed them of this , and occupied a table and placed my order. waitress was apologetic of the wait; I decided to have my meal in my room which was taken to my room was by a very cheerful and polite waitress and apologized for the inconvenience. I ordered a French Onion soup and a Chicken Quesadilla. Soup was so bitter and I did not eat at all - left a note on tray to notify this.
Review 79:Very comfortable room decorated to feel like a cottage with bricks and wood on walls . Fireplace in each room makes it very homey . comfortable bed and fresh linen , room was very clean. Breakfast is better than normal hotel included breakfasts, overall nice hotel to stay.
Review 80:The food in the pub was fairly pedestrian - some unique and fresh additions would be welcome.
Review 81:Loved the trivia cards on the table in the pub. Very comfortable bed.
Review 82:Nothing.
Review 83:We were given an upgrade to a suite when we checked in. Absolutely fantastic! Room was spacious, and the amenities great. The bed was very comfortable. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Nice atmosphere and food in the bar/lounge area of Tom's Place. Would stay here again.
Review 84:Really comfortable room, Upgraded on first stay. Bed extremely comfortable and two restaurants were excellent quality. convenient locatio for my purposes. Already booked for next time.
Review 85:loved the location/right on the main drag/bar/restaurant on the property free breakfast/very comfortable beds/ like the little pillows/quaint decor/fireplace is great
Review 86:Tastefully decorated Spacious Clean Romantic Out of the city center but well connected if you travel by car. If we have the opportunity we will repeat.
Review 87:Room small. Bathroom needed updates. Entire hotel feels dark and a bit claustrophobic. Complimentary breakfast food was dry and unappetizing. Probably won't choose this hotel again..
Review 88:The price was reasonable.
Review 89:The breakfast buffet was terrible. The selections were not fresh and they were cold. There wasn't much of a selection either...for a buffet. Would have preferred a continental breakfast. The juice glasses were extremely small (like shot glasses), so my kids had to make a million trips to satisfy their thirst. Another problem was the noise from other rooms. We could hear people from next door talking like they were sitting in our room.
Review 90:The room was comfortable, large and cozy seating.
Review 91:Lovely rooms, great breakfast and we enjoyed a delicious dinner in the pub. All made for a relaxing getaway! This was a repeat visit for two couples and we didn't consider staying anywhere else. Excellent place to stay!!
Review 92:the room shower - grab bar too low if you are taking a shower
Review 93:room decor very friendly and helpful staff breakfasts birthday dinner for Verna the 'odjig'
Review 94:Not overly impressed with meal at Tom's restaurant. Not much taste. Menu is usual pub food.
Review 95:Room - 4 poster bed, fireplace, couch .... very impressed. Excellent price. Tom's restaurant - loved the décor and the highback chairs. Excellent service.
Review 96:It's getting tired. While clean, it feels dingy and dated.
Review 97:This is a great location and very handy for business travel as it has all of the amenities required in one location.
Review 98:Our reservation was supposed to include a "full breakfast",which to me means a sit down breakfast with a menu and wait staff. Whatwe got instead was a very mediocre buffet (we hate buffets!). Quitemisleading really.
Review 99:The hotel was good, the service was friendly and the rooms werequite decent.
Review 100:no elevator - we had rented a hospitality suite on the third floor and lugging things up and down was exhausting ... and some of the staff / management were a bit snooty at times
Review 101:beautifully decorated rooms, extremely comfortable beds ... Tom's place is a very cozy lounge ... our entire party very much enjoyed the breakfast that was included with the rooms
Review 102:The carpet was a little worn - old carpet in a hotel room really grosses me out.
Review 103:Room was cozy & the fireplace was really nice - it wasn't cold enough to use but on a cold winter's night, it must be wonderful.
Review 104:Breakfast was cold, swimming in grease the staff responded quickly when I brought it to their attention but was too late for me we had to go to Dr appt early
Review 105:The main staff were very helpful and polite the room was warm and cosy with the fireplace after long drive was very relaxing thanks bed was very comfy room very clean
Review 106:Wi-fi was terrible. My son had to sit in the lobby in order to be connected.
Review 107:The staff were excellent and very accommodating. Parking was free and the buffet breakfast that was included was a big step up from your regular toast, cereal and muffins.
Review 108:Staff was super friendly at check in. I had a king room which was perfect. Steak dinner was superb with a waitress that couldn't have been friendlier. Overall, a great night!
Review 109:All was perfect!
Review 110:We loved the location, the staff, the meal offers, the flexibility in certain requests... the availability for computer Wi fi service We plan to be back next year! the decor was so interesting... both restaurants set the atmosphere for two best friends catching up on years of life
Review 111:An indoor pool and hot tub would have been the icing on the cake.
Review 112:Spacious room, comfortable bed, fireplace, ambiance, free breakfast, Tom's Place is cozy.
Review 113:I had two large suitcases, there was no lift to the first floor.
Review 114:This was a one night stop over motel for us but having arrived late we were able to have a very nice meal in Toms Place and were made to feel welcome by all the staff. We had a big and comfortable room and big bed. In the morning they had a computer and printer I could use and breakfast was very good.
Review 115:A little way out of the downtown area, but was only a small issue
Review 116:having the options for food on site, because the hotel isn't in the downtown area and you would have to drive, was nice to have the Bisto and be able to have a very nice glass of wine and good food, plus Tom's place for snacks at lunch was excellent.
Review 117:Facilities remembered from 10 years ago and the hotel needs a facelift. Don't change the theme just do a make over.
Review 118:Love the City and its history. The staff were very good.
Review 119:The room was very nice and comfy. Only drawback, to make it more rosemantic (Girlfriend term), I wish I could have turned the two lights off to the pictures in the room. They come on with the fireplace. Other than that very nice stay.
Review 120:The location was great, easy access to downtown. Nice pool outside, heated. Two restaurants onsite. We went to Toms, good food, friendly staff, fast service. Desk staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast served anything and everything you needed to start your day. Very fresh and filling. Great job by all.
Review 121:There was no elevator and distances were a bit much with a load of luggage. I would like there to be a blanket available instead of only a duvet, especially in summer.
Review 122:Excellence of both restaurants on site.
Review 123:Thin walls, you could hear people showering etc. the bathroom is not practical and the toilet was hard to flush and very loud! The pillows are not great either. The air conditioner was also old and loud.
Review 124:Breakfast.the room was large and clean.
Review 125:There was nothing in this hotel that we did not like
Review 126:The staff was very helpful in giving directions and printing maps. Tom's place which is the restaurant is excellent. Friendly staff and great food.
Review 127:If the price was a touch better I would stay more often as I travel to Kingston frequently. 2-3 times per month. But occasionally I go where it's cheaper.
Review 128:The rooms are always open and comfy. Love the sitting area for relaxing.
Review 129:Laundry machine charges were high. No laundry soap at reception. Iron was not good. Looked new but cheap. No restaurants within walking distance though a Walmart across the road.
Review 130:Liked the space in room. Wifi, parking free. New hotel so decoration was fresh
Review 131:The location was a bit far from downtown for us , but we like to walk everywhere , so that being said ,it is a lovely spot and free parking .
Review 132:WE thought it was a charming place and would be good for a longer stay so we could use the pool etc.
Review 133:the fact that the manager said he had offered us a different room than the one we booked and requested when we NEVER spoke to a man at all room was NOT satisfactory
